Omnia 7 coming to India? - Omnia 7 General

This is after a lot of search and research that I am posting this thread.
I was thinking of buying the HD7..but honestly it was overly priced. Then I hit upon the Omnia 7.
Now I live in India, Mumbai.
Was thinking if its gonna ever make it here??
Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is slightly unrelated to your post. I bought my Omnia 7 in Switzerland.
I have been on holiday in India, using my Omnia 7 --- no problems. I have it linked to my live account, in which I think I have enabled the US locale.
No problems with any of the services. I am using BSNL's 3G (Chennai circle).
Please check out with people using WP7 in India, to make sure there are no silly limitations.
I love WP7 and Omnia7 is just phenomenal. I thought HD7 was a bit too big to handle conveniently as a 'phone'.
Besk,
Karthik

Hey Karthik,
Thanx for your reply...I am wondering where you got your Omnia 7 from? Its neither available in India NOR EVEN THE USA....this is pretty strange...And my uncle is coming down from the US..so was thinking of asking him to get it for me...but again, ITS not even available there...And yes, I also agree with you...the HD7 is too big for a regular use of phone...Omnia 7 is just perfect...
Thanx again.

Hi,
As I have mentioned in my post, I bought my Omnia7 in Switzerland. Omnia 7 was released only in the UK/Europe. The US equivalent is Focus.
Focus is pretty similar to Omnia, and you might seriously want to consider it. I think Omnia looks cooler, but Focus has an SD slot to make up for . Focus is also crazy light (ppl have said it feels like a fake phone even ).
But the issue with Focus is, you may not find an unlocked version.
If you don't see yourself playing too many games, and can compromise with a ~10% speed reduction, you might want to consider the trophy (which I think is coming to India?). I was sold on the trophy, till I read about some of the slow down issues... which I think may not have mattered in the end. Of course, Omnia has a G O R G E O U S screen!!
Bottomline, try to find someone in UK (I hope they get unlocked phones there, like in Europe)

Why Should I buy HD2?

Guys,
I appreciate, "you are doing wonderful job here".
I am planning to buy HTC HD2. But I am confused why i should buy it rather than an iphone. What are the benefits? As even we are not sure whether HTC would provide upgrade to Windows mobile 7 for this device.
I have been using HTC tytnII for last 2 years so I am familiar with windows OS. only issue is these OS are not upgradable. Like apple keep on issue OS upgrade for iphone users.
Isn't it bit problematic to have such a big screen without stylus?
From where can i get cheapest HD2 in UK?
Please guide me in right direction.
Thanks,
If there is nothing you would miss on iPhone, then I would not hesitate.
I would miss many things though.
Get the HD2 & have the support of XDA at the same time! If you read the threads in this Leo section, then it's a no brainer! Good luck.

It's less problematic than a smaller screen without a stylus (such as the iPhone).
Replacing HD with HD2?
I would like to hear from the experience of Previous HD(1) owners who had migrated to HD2. Is it really worth it? is it a major or a minor step ahead?
I'm asking that because currently I have no issue with my HD (WM 6.1), it is a very responsive PDA which serves most of my needs (phone, mail, messaging, web, video, slingplayer, fring, etc.)
Thanks

I have both and have been trying to decide the same thing for the last few days. My test was to use the HD2 for 24h, and then go back to the HD1.
I listed my HD1 on eBay this morning... #1 deciding factor? Capacitive. Closely followed by speed.

I totally agree. The screen itself is worth upgrading from the HD to the HD2! The speed is a welcome improvement, and the whole UI just seems a lot more rounded than previous versions.
I know a fair few people moan about HTC, and a lot of those moans are valid, but in my opinion they've really improved on the HD, as if that was almost a test for the HD2 which is the real thing.
Not knocking the HD - don't get me wrong. I loved that phone, but it's going in the post today, after selling it on eBay the other day.
I can't see myself wanting to upgrade this phone for a looooooooooooong time!

Reports vary from Q1 2010 to Q4 2010. The only consistency so far is 2010, so I wouldn't hold your breath for it.
Hehe, we are in the same shoes Next Monday I'm going to get a HD2, distributed in Vietnam. Although there are some problems being complained everywhere, but it's no doubt one of the hottest device this quarter. Let try and experience!
i've got a hd1, and thinking of upgrading to hd2
but my hd1 on uk orange is rubbish, and is a total pain.
i've discovered that orange has tweeked the rom so much it's not good.
so my question is, does UK Vodafone alter the rom, and is it supported by HTC unlike the orange hd?

I kind of have a similar question. I'm kind of on the brink of switching to the HD2 from my magic 32b. Basically the hardware specs make the HD2 a beast. I like android and have rooted my phone and am pretty much getting all I can out of it. I'm wondering if it's worth the switch to WinMo? I could really careless either way on the OS. I'm not really a fanboy of one or the other. If I do buy an HD2 I will load a custom ROM. What are the advantages of this? (I know there are many for Android Devices.) I just want to make an informed decision.
Thanks for all your help guys.

Even without WM7 upgrade, I will still buy the HD2 for T-mobile

Yes....I have already read the article (and several discussions from this forum) that WM7 will not be upgradable for the HD2 and guess what....
I will get the HD2 when it come out from T-mobile this month or next month.
Why buy the new phone with WM7 when I already have so many applications/games for the WM6? If I wait for the new WM7, there won't be any good applications for awhile. What good will that do for me?
So who in the USA with T-mobile is still going to buy the HD2 from T-mobile even if it will not be upgradable to WM7?
i think im buying it too.. it depends if the htc desire comes to tmobile usa or not.. buy i really like the hd2 and i think im getting it on march
i already have it with t mobile usa , and i don't really care much for wm7, and besides that's why we have some of the best developers in xda, somebody will copy the wm7 rom and come up with one for us hd2 guys LOL.
I'm still on board for the HD2. And as the previous poster mentioned, I'm not in love with WP7S anyway. I didn't want to upgrade after what I saw at MWC.
I am not with T-Mo but if the price is right I will be for a no contract stint with the HD2. If the price is 100 - 200 short of the Telstra version I will probably keep ATT and import it.
I like WM7, but dont care about it as its not here and I need a nice new phone.

It's supposed to be $450/no-contract, $200/contract from US T-Mobile. If that good enough?
Do you need a T-mobile service to purchase the phone? Will you be able to unlock the HD2 from T-mobile?
I definitely still will. It's a great phone and at $200 subsidized it's an even better phone.

That would be € 332,72 .... Lucky american b*sterds They might as well throw in a 32 Gb MicroSD card and it will still be cheaper than the european version.
Completely agree!!

its just about the most bland UI, one can ever see
I think that they must give us 6.5.3/5 version, because it will be perfect choice for HD2. Excellent hardware + new finger friendly OS = bingo. Best performance and autonomy for us users, and then we dont need any WM 7 or similar toys...
cheers

Yep and a updated Sense with some new features, so we can wear our phones with pride. So if anybody comes along with a WP phone we can say ... yeah alright, but we have a phone with 5 buttons that is powered by HTC Sense. And then we show them our battery covers .... and wish them a nice day.

Hi!
I totally agree with the others in this thread. I just bought the HD2 knowing that there will not be a WM7 upgrade, at least not official. There will most likely take a while before we see any interesting apps for WM7 anyway, and by that time (maybe in a couple of years from now), its time to switch phone. For the moment I'm very happy with WM 6.5.x, especially the amount of available software that runs perfectly. The multimedia, communication and web experience of the HD2 are excellent, thanks to outstanding hardware and good value added software like Sense 2.5 and the Opera browser. I guess that the 1st generation of WM7 (OS and devices) will have some bugs and glitches, and I don't plan to be a beta tester for Microsoft.
Regards,
PK

Please learn me how to find these good applications and games. I have been on the HD2 since December and have not found so many. Bejeweled 2 and Teeter are the only 2 games of good quality. The Marketplace is dead, so really tell me where all those apps and games are!
I really do hope you will answer me, this is not a flame. IMO the problem of the HD2 is the lack of apps and games, but whatever.

Well, search these forums for Xtrakt and Experiment13. Then Google for the demo of Electopia. Then search this and the HD2 applications forum for the word "game" or "games" and you'll find plenty.

[Q] How well does WP7 work?

Hey,
My iPhone has died so I am looking to buy cheap phone whilst I wait for decent WP7 phone to come out this year.
I was wondering how well does Windows 7 work on HD2? Any lag? Do major features like GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi, etc work properly? Finally, any of you guys use Windows Phone 7 as your day to day OS?
I couldn't find these answers so I apologise if these have been asked recently.
Thanks.
Basically, everything works. Camera lighting is off, sound is a too loud (at 2/30 sounds like its at 25/30). Very snappy, looks good on the HD2.
Pretty tempted myself especially since I just read about dual booting WP7 and Android (Froyo presumably). It's the only phone to allow that, right?
Price is still pretty high though, $480 at Amazon and eBay is a bit of a maze on finding a nice one.
I use it full time for a few week now (DFT rom) and I am real happy. Everything works well, and looks great.
Got all the features working (activation, live, marketplace, GPS, Navigon, Custum ringtones, etc.). Things already said that need to be fixed are: battery leak, 3G data leak, volume, camera (no focus, green with flash).
But above all: I will NEVER go back to wm6.5 (if I don't need to). I LOVE IT ! Respect to DFT.
My HD2 works with WP7 like its a native WP7-Phone.
You can fix the battery issue by installing 2.12 Radio ROM (3G slower)
And you can fix 3G Connection by installing 2.15 Radio ROM (Battery weaker)
Just as you need more, you can choose.
Volume is maybe a little bit high, but i like it. Now at least i can hear my phone when it rings ^^. You can use the Autofocus by changing in video mode, autofocus is sharpening picture, change back to photo mode and take the picture. You can get the green colour away by downloading HTC Photo Optimizer from the Market (free) and choose the option which looks best.
WP7 is great <3
WP7 on HD2 has been a successful "try before you buy" for me. Even if it gets wanked after the next update I will probably go with a "real" HD7. The potential for this OS is awesome. I think MS (and the devs) have only scratched the surface.
I just went to compare an HD7 with my Leo70 - and even sales people were stunned. It feels the same, it looks the same, speed is same... well, no wonder, hardware-wise, they are on par, aren´t they?
Since there is no other device comparable to the multi-OS capable HD2, I will keep that device at least for another season... means, I will be using it at least until the successors of HD7/Omnia 7 will be launched AND successful on the market. I won´t buy the first series though, as I did with HD2, to avoid the mass field test phase of HTC and Microsoft...
loving it too.... and actually thinking of getting the real hd7
only thing that i dont really love.. is the integration of social networks and contacts in the same place...oh oops and the non ability to use the myphone service...sucks
You can turn off social contacts in your phonebook by turning it off in Settings, Applications (swipe left) > Contacts ^^
And the HD2 and HD7 are actually the same, only little diiferences, but nothing that matters really... And when I'm getting enough of WP7 I can change back to another OS whenever I want (but I think i will stick with WP7 ^^)
I am loving WP 7. I will alos upgrade if they disable it after the next upgrade. It works wonderfully on the HD2. Here's praying Microsoft will relent to the pressure and give us an official upgrade to our beloved HD2. (I know I'm dreaming)

There are so many people that think the HD2 is 2 years old and they have to buy a new one. So many people who don't even know what they can get out of their HD2. That's your chance. Look in eBay or other sites where people can sell their used phones. I also bought a used HD2 1 month before for 180€ and that price is more than fair
Yes that's a good price, hope I'll find one for that price too! Will check eBay...
Try the Marketplace you can always find someone selling a htc hd2 there, i'd make sure you get a tmobile htc hd2, not the Euro verision as it runs low on memory.
Good idea, are there any 3G bandwidth issues with the HD2 though, T-Mobile means 1700 and 2100 I think, AT&T is 850 or 1900 and Europe is 1900 or 2100.
They are giving them away frr for new users.
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Default.aspx?uid=Shop_1_1
Thanks, can't go for a two-year contract, but $360 may not be too bad for refurbished device...except I can't seem to find it without a plan, hum...
It does have UMTS 2100Mhz, so that's good for Europe, also UMTS : AWS, not sure what that is.
I went back to wm 6.5
Wp7 is great but it ****ed up alot...
couldn't watch more than any video, be it netflix or youtube for more than 5 minutes...
phone froze if i used games for more than 7 minutes...
the back got really hot
whats really annoying is during boot up it would restarts like 5 times after gogogo screen....but it never reached the dft logo...when it reached the dft logo, it meant it would boot, but it still kept crashing
WP7 on HD2 is amazing, a real THANX to DFT Team, they always do good work.
i use WP7 for daily usage and it works well, Just need to improve some things that will come with next update (i hope). Im glade of this new os.

[Q] OMNIA 7 Replacement Alternative

I have had 5 replacement OMNIA 7's now and quite frankly I have given up with it!
Orange said that they would give a completely different device but I would have to wait a week for them to decide which ones they could offer me. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what sort of alternate device they would offer me, apparently it can be up to three different ones.
Thanks for any responses
What was wrong with your Omnias? Sounds weird since I haven't got any problems with my Omnia7
test the lastest rom if you have your omnia yet.
All of my OMNIA's have had the same defective screen problem. Basically the screen brightness is reduced to that of low even though it is on high, and the colors on the screen all appear to have been reduced almost like a whitewash.
I am yet to try an alternate ROM but I'm not sure if thats the issue here
Are you sure thats Omnia 7, cause the screen is its best feature, besides if you really want to change it then go blindfolded and pick up HTC Mozart7.
Sadly yes it's definitely the OMNIA 7! I don't particularly want another device I just want an OMNIA that actually works for longer than a week. Due to the fact that I'm tied into my contract with Orange there is only one other WP7 device the HTC Mozart obviously. But does anyone have any idea what other devices Orange might offer me?
Thank You for the replies

Orange seems to have Mozart, LG Optimus 7 and OMNIA7, this info is according to microsoft. Here follow the link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-gb/buy/7/phones.aspx
Strange... A few years ago I had no end of troubles with K850i's and after around 5 replacements they just offered me an alternative right away... I didn't have to wait.
I'd guess you will be offered the Mozart / Optimus 7 and probably something like the HTC Desire or an Android phone of equivalent value.
Orange have some deal with the Mozart so will want to push that if at all possible.
I forgot about the LG!
Either way I'm hopeing they offer me something worth while after all I did choose the OMNIA for its screen. Although it is Android I might enquire about the Motorola ATRIX
If you are interested in getting an android then I recommend that you ask Orange to give you XPERIA NEO. http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_neo-3734.php
Thank You I will check it out
5 devices?
You must be drop kicking them ... Seriously not being mean but if some one came into my shop after their fifth broken device id tell them to turn around.
Its not possible to have 5 defective screens in a row...

[Q] Planning to buy...

Hi, i have been using WM 6.5 and Android for quite a while (HTC TyTn II and LG Optimus One), i recently decided to try an WP7 phone... so Optimus 7 seems to be a good choice.
I just have one question, how many finger touches does it support?? i cant seem any info regarding this (or any info regarding this on any WP7 phone) other than it simply being listed as 'multi-touch'.
Thanks a lot... and sorry if its a stupid question but i cant seem to find the answer anywhere!!
The screen apparently supports more than 4, but the software is limited to 4 points of contact, and that is what you get with Optimus 7. There are many games in the Marketplace that demonstrate this. I must say, as a Optimus 7 owner, and having tried the other WP7 devices, the Optimus 7 probably has the most ... Optimal touch experience of them all ... HTC ones are far too sensitive.
Screen support up to 10 fingers , I don't have more fingers to try
thanks a lot... guess i will prob go with this phone.. but have to save up for a while..

I bought it unlocked on ebay for 165 euros!
http://cgi.ebay.de/LG-E900-OPTIMUS-...00625220083?pt=DE_Handy_s&hash=item2eb631e9f3
Wow for that price is incredible even in USD it comes to $238.82 according to Google. The best I could find in the ebay us site was in the $400 and $550 range!
Next time I'm hunting for a phone I'll come here and ask for advice.
Also, pachuau86 if you're planning on saving to buy a new phone why don't you wait for the new Nokia Windows Phone 7? They'll kick the ass of any WP7 to date so you better wait and see what the other brands will bring to the table, its all dual core now baby.
Google Nokia windows Phone 7 since I can't posts links yet due to being a noob.
This is my first wp7 phone and it is really good. Solid to hold and very good build quality. WP7 is very good and will get better with mango. If your in the UK try the expansys website i picked mine up from there brand new sim free for £185.
I don't know about any Nokia WP7s as those are rumoured NOT to be released in North America this year or early next year anyways ...
But ... if you are interested in this phone, I have it on good authority that the same body will receive and update, which includes the latest SoC (1-1.2Ghz from what I heard), as well as a front camera and gyroscope, with a better battery life and screen, called the LG E90X (Note that the 'X' refers to a digit between 5-9 depending on location of release) ...
thanks a lot for the replies... will save up and try to get this phone
