New Looking for info? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey guys I just got a HD2 and ive messed around with them before but I'd like to know the most stable and up 2 date android build that people are running with htc sense on the hd2? ive looked around and there seems to be so many and so much info im getting lost on what build is best and where to go with it.. so if you know the best MOST STABLE UP TO DATE BUILD with HTC sense please send me in the right direction thanks!

Everyone has different experiences and expectations, so the only person that can answer that question is you. You just need to try some of the latest builds that are available and that suit your needs.

so far, I make my own mix from base builds and I find it stable. everything works.

how do i know what the latest build is or what the most stable is and where do i find it?

If you want to run Android from your SD card and keep Windows, go here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735
If you want to flash Android to the phone so that it removes Windows, go here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=928
The builds/ROMs are all dated, so you can tell when they were made.
ALL the information you need about running Android can be found in those forums. Make sure you read the stickied threads at the top of the forums for information.

I have no idea why nobody will help you, I mean there is plenty of stickies/guides they could look for, and search function they could use to do teh work for you, plus everything is date and organised but... meh.
Anyway, I find this site to be more help as it lists everything step by step and keeps track of all the most stable builds for you, its honestly the best place to start before you jump in.

every board seems to have its smartass

is it hard to say this is the newest most stable up 2 date build that has android and sense? and am i right from what i understand any windows mobile rom 3.14.531.1 and radio 2.15.50.14 work with any of them so all i have to do is drop the files on the sd card and run the 2 files?

Indeed, and for every one smartass there are 100 people who come on ask a question that has been asked a MILLION times and expect to get straight answers!!
a) SEARCH
b) READ
c) LEARN
d) TRY
Your question has been asked a million times so there is no need to ask it again, just read the answers that have already been provided. Plus the answer to the question is subjective so you will not get a real answer because what will be stable for one person may not be stable for you.

Then go try some Desire HD or Z builds

The build that I am using is been very stable. Info is in my signature. It is a desire hd based Android sense Rom that runs via the SD card.
For initial set up I would stick with SD card or RAM builds as you can mess things up in nand builds and its a tedious process to get back to original settings. With SD card based builds if you don't like something then copy paste is all that's needed to get ur old settings.
For a guide to set it up look in the link in my signature
Cheers

THANKS!!! from an android noob

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who contribute to this forum. I have been coming to XDA for months now. I have a HTC Touch Viva and have been coming here to get my roms for it. My brand spanking new G1 is going to arrive tomorrow. I have been reading up for the past 2 days on how to root my phone. I have decided to go with CyanogenMod v4.0.3 - stable(mostly cause the benchmarks I have seen). Since I dualboot linux and Vista I am going to partion my Transcend 8gb Class 6 SD card ahead of time. I am going to used the 1-click method. I have the newest radio and SPL ready to go. Just in case I want to change to a different rom(maybe hero). I think I read some where about a PVT and DVT board? Which one is newer? Which one is most likely to be in my new one?
Once again Thank You, you guys are awesome. And keep up the good work.
If you are in the us, it is must likely pvt but just go into the bootloader by pressing camera and power button and it is your first peice of info on there, set yourself up with a 96mb swap partion to set yourself up from the start
If I were you I would not do the one click method and use this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
You don't have to but seen people having issues with it.
I would like to say thanks to you ginronin. A lot of newcomers have been around here and they never want to read up or study anything. Asking us to give them customized instructions on how to get root and install hero roms. It is nice to know people are still willing to put some time and energy into this rather then wanting to be spoon fed.

Just in case you already downloaded the rom to be ready to go: Don't forget to go with Cyanogen 4.0.3.1. 4.0.3 has issues.
Thanks guys for all the advice. Cyanogen's mods keep updating so fast lol I was just about to flash the 4.0.3 lol. Thanks for all the help and advice.
DONE!!!
Thanks to this great Forum. I now have a ROOT G1!! running Cyanogenmod v4.0.3.1. I was afraid for a second but everything is good now. The one-click method worked like a charm. Thanks to all who were involved with making ROMs and building up this great community.

HTC Hero Android 2.0 on Sprint

Is it possible to get android 2.0 on your HTC Hero on the Sprint Network. If so, could you give instructions on how I'm not all that technically advanced, any help would be much appreciated.

there is a mostly working 2.1 on here in the stickys ant the top on the forum as well as an ASOP 2.0 build but I would give it a few days to a week and now that the kernel source has been released the great devs here should have a fully working build very soon.
Thanks alot, is there much of a risk doing that?
No, Sprint has not release a newer version of Android for the Hero than 1.5.

As long as you flash a CDMA Hero ROM & install the custom recovery image, there isn't much risk.
Sprint has not released the 2.1 update for the Hero yet and does not have any confirmed date on when it will be available.
The devs here have several 2.x ROMS with partial functionality, and instructions on how to root your phone and flash them are usually on the first page of their respective threads. Also, check the wiki at the top. It's new and needs a little polish, but it's a repository for all ROMS and guides you'll need.
HTC just released the source code for the CDMA kernel, and with that the devs here should have a fully functional 2.x ROM soon.

This is the 2.1 Beta. But yeah just like wtphoto said. Give it some time before it gets fully furnished for day to day use.
Only if you can't follow VERY simple instructions
call me stupid, what is flashing? Like you said as long as i flash my hero

click the links on my previous post to read what you need to do.
PLEASE read everything, then re-read it , then read it while you are doing it. there have been many people that have not done so and bricked thier phones
as the old adage goes measure twice cut once.
as far as flash the stock ROM allows flash, that being said there are some file formats that it wont play but for the most part its pretty good.

[Q] Android cooked ROM??

well, after trying about every version of XDAndroid, I'm pretty desperate!
All the messages from the search are over an year old, and don't really tell anything. Is there any cooked rom that contains android? Or, is there someone who managed to dual-boot wm and android?
The problem I have with my Blackstone and XDAndroid is the cpu-temperature and batterylife. It keeps draining my battery!

I've tried every option there is to use android on my blackstone, but... The XDandroid port is a batterydrain, and that makes it unusable for me at daily use. The source of the batterydrain is that HaReT is the basic app to run XDandroid, and the system uses full cpu and memory, because it can't adapt to the needed usage
My question is: Is there a fully cooked Android rom, so I can install it as a clean ROM. Just because a cooked ROM has the stuff that prevents a battery drain in a certain way

You have no idea what you are talking about...
Anyway there's not a cooked Android rom for blackstone yet.
The battery problem is not related on haret; is almost fixed with camro's last kernel and modules, so i presume next "official" xandroid will have this improvements and no more battery problems, we just need camera working and a couple of other stuff THEN we will begin to think about a cooked rom.
Enjoy

Well, it just worked That's all... Didn't do any fancy stuff... The only thing I did was changing the startup.txt with the right screensizes and stuff but, no weird changes...
Somewhere on the forum, there's a list to write your own startup.txt... that's what I did

BTW mitikos, that's why the thread starts with a tag '[Q]'!
And, there are no stupid questions... just stupid answers...
And the part that I know of, is the linux part... Just because I've been using different Linux-distributions on a testing scale
That made the concern about HaReT...

Well, I've noticed that there is a bit confusion about the soft and hard keys...
Also, the WiFi is trouble, but it doesn't work on WinMo either...
But guys, I'm heading out for work! I'll keep on testing, and let you hear all about it...
BTW, a huge problem is the CPU-temperature... Sometimes when I wanna perform a hard reset, I burn my fingers

And what about the CPU frequency ? I had the same problem on my Touch Pro and it was because overclock was enabled by default... may be you should just edit your startup.txt to underclock your Qualcomm.

Orphans of [22 JAN]MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.6 [A2SD+][GRH78C]..[Kernel: MDJ S10.4 OC]

Now that the original thread is closed, perhaps it should be OK for us orphans of this NAND ROM to discuss our problems here.
If we are lucky, maybe MDJ will re-surface and post updates to that excellent NAND in the relevant section.
Hope the mods don't mind?
Maybe he abandoned because unofficial / kinda official cm7 nightlies. Hopefully he has a honeycomb build on the way.

Even Honeycomb is compatible with Phones, it will never be a Phone OS. It meant to be for Tablets only.
By the way, last week MDJ said that update is almost READY! All we can do is hope that it is true!
By the way, some people on eBay sell MDJ's ginger on ebay with instructions, hundreds of copies...
Nah, he did post about an upcoming update. The mods closed it down because the thread got unwieldy (over 1500 msgs) and MDJ did not respond in time to their PMs.

Nope. Cyanogen released note that they are not very happy about Unofficial builds of their work. That is why they closed it, because of GPL.

GPL? Hope mdj has something rolling out in the near future. I still use use this rom as long as it does not has any problem ....

Interesting that cyanogen mod would get upset at unofficial releases of their work. especially since they are the original android hackers and chefs. And I really doubt the mods closed it because it got too big.

The issue is licensing, not unofficial ports - the GPL license requires you to provide access to your source code. MDJ did not provide his source code despite many requests for access to it

If I can remember well, that also happened during the SD builds time.
He was asked for the source code but not after the later part that he gave it.
ughhhhhh, my favorite rom build is being taken away from me :'(
Well, I have the following would-like-to-haves in future versions if they are ever coming:
Dialer - Speed Dial
Dialer - Find Contact As You Type
About Device - The actual device ID (prevents some apps like FastWebInstall from working)
The new App Market
Everything else seems to be working fine for me.
I'd like to clear something up, to stop all these "rumours".
MDJ's thread was closed because his threads are not in compliance with the requirements of the GPL.
Once he contacts the moderators with the information he is required to provide, his threads can be re-opened.
It has nothing to do with cyanogen or anything like that.
I guess this thread can stay open as a "support" thread as long as no links are posted to any of his ROMs.
Do someone know MDJ personally ? How can we contact him ?
I hate to give up his rom...

That's great thanks for the reply. I have another question for ya then. Is my radio version good or is there a better one to flash?
There's a thread in the dev section with all the radios in it. If you're not having issues, you're good. If you want a solid stable Sense ROM, you're good. Anything past that is more of a project with bugs that need to be worked out still.
If you want to try something different and equally as stable, give MIUI a shot. No 4G though. Never will be. But it's an AOSP ROM and has a TON of cool features.
