Laggy screen in games (or in any CPU-consuming app) - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi guys!
I recently came up with a new issue on my HTC Vision (Desire Z, french).
The screen would eventually lag while in an intensive CPU program. But by lagging, I mean something very specific, let me explain through an example:
If i'm in a game (it depends which one but it's obvious with Angry Birds or Armored Defense) then i get the screen lag 9 times out of 10.
I hold a bird, then pull it to the left... aim... and let throw! That's the normal way but when I'm pulling, or aiming (moving up/down) the bird would go, without me having released my finger. And often also, it would tap the screen again just a millisecond after, catching again the screen touch. I see it because the bird do its special ability just after the launch in theses cases.
Same thing with tower defense games: i'm dragging a tower to a place and before i can reach the location, the tower places itself on the way. Then the map would drag as if i caught again the screen touch.
If i'm on the homescreen and have fun with sliding between screens, no problem, i can keep my finger on the screen and move it right, left, fast or slow, that will just move the screen fine, as intended. It's smooth. Same with the notification bar. I can move it down/up fast, smooth, for half an hour if i would like to.
So, basically, that's what I call my "screen lag". It's absolutely annoying, in games as in other apps sometimes (it affects pinch zooming as well...).
I noticed though, that in my processes, the android system process is always running high. Is it normal? In OS Monitor, CPU usage is always at 97~98%, from which system takes a fair 70% (more if nothing else runs). Is that a problem? If not, could that be the cause?
Would you like a video with this problem illustrated to understand or was it clear?
Thank you for your time and help!

If lag is your enemy, crank up the CPU you must.
On a side note, I'm not experiencing any lag at all, just tried angry birds and Need for Speed Shift, all seems fine @ 806 MHz

Same here, nfs shift, angry birds,
Aasphalt, fifa,.... all fine on stock speed. Only reason I've oc'd is to get rid of that millisecond lag on the homescreen, not that it was an issue, I'm just anal.

You can use a process monitor (like watchtower) to find out which process is messing with your CPU.
I'm having a problem where bluetoothd and logcat2 are using up the cpu when I enable BlueTooth. You could try turning it of to see if you have the same problem.

Hi.
Thank you all for your answers.
@omarsalmin, @wileykat
As i mentioned, i did not have that before. Not at all, I played the three first packs of Angry bird just fine. It has to do with some app installation I guess. But I don't know which one, and I'm not rooted. So probably ockling the CPU won't help. What's more, i'd like to keep my battery life as now, which is already so low...
@rajackar
I used OS Monitor to notice that I had a process taking over 70%. And as i wrote, it's "system" (named "Système Android" in french). Also, I keep having he problem with everything off (all i can turn off has been so), and just after a reboot (fast reboot disabled).
How could I find the cause of my system process eating all CPU?
Big thanks guys.

Your not running any task managers are you?.... I used TaskPanelX on my Hero for about 9 months thinking it was beneficial but when I uninstalled and rebooted everything ran smoother. I have tested on the DZ and got the same result.

I'm only launching OS Monitor from time to time, to check things, but close it then (the clean way, complete exit, not just minimize). I'm not running anything else, at least which I know about. Anyway, the problem came before I installed tools for checking. And also, the process involved here is "system".
Can anyone tell me if OS Monitor (or another process monitor but I would like to compare with same app) shows a low CPU usage when not doing anything? Or is it a OS Monitor issue, showing the system process to take all the remaining CPU power?
Thank you

Are Wizards Slow

I'm considering making the move from the Blue Angel to the Wizard. The only thing is that I keep hearing that the device is slow so I wanted second opinions. It definitely didn't help that the device took so long to switch teh screen to horizontal mode in the cnet review video:
http://reviews.cnet.com/T_Mobile_MDA/4505-6452_7-31678156.html
The Wizard isn't all that slow, to me, its almost feels the same as using the apache. even though it runs at 200mhz, it is a dual core processor. overclocking it 240mhz also makes it faster. tweaks and hacks can speed up overall peformance and decrease the time to switch to horizontal mode when pulling out the keyboard.
I went from a BA to the wizard. and in day to day use i see no major speed diference. even my gps navigation software runs at about the same speed. go for it i dont regret my move to the wizard for a second
i find the wizard generally slow but i can understand why its done. I have 3 day battery life and great features and this is at a trade off of being slightly slower.
I run an xda 1 and 2i and find it slower running some apps than both devices
tomtom is a good example, runs faster epecially starting up faster, on the xda 1 and 2i but by choice i always carry and use the wiz for everything. The others are back up devices for me

it's slow but can process everything.
In the past month and a half, I've gone through the Blue Angle, Exec (not sure what that's called), and now finally the Wizard.
So far, the wizard has been the absolute fastest of all. MUCH faster than the Exec!
b
The was slow for me at first but then I upgraded to the "unofficial 2.24" version and it's much faster for me now.
I also have a program called x-cpu which can modify the device to have a 100mhz processor up to a 500mhz processor however it will disrupt services such as bluetooth...not sure about the phone though but the dang thing was lightning fast when that program was running.

Depends on how you intend using it. I have used almost all the Models of HTC and believe it or not WIZARD is one of the best when it comes to the battery backup. See the POST ON THE TOP BY maltloaf Maybe we can relate this to a slower(though slower is no the appropriate word) rather controlled speed.
But mind it please, if you have an address book of more than 4000 contacts with 5- 6 entries in every Contact Including E mail id and web address, u might find it hanging while using SPB diary for example.
Keep a watch on this thread and read others experiences.
This FORUM Is excellent and enriching !!
I was disappointed at first because it was to me it seems like running xp on a 386. I figured what the heck I don't like it now so I'll update the roms and get rid of all the misc junk Tmobile put on and overclock the thing. Wow, what a difference, it's a heck of alot faster, runs everything and is generally a pleasure to use. I've clocked it up to 240mhz but found beyond that it will drop a phone call now & then. It's a great little machine.
... runs smooth to me, coming from a SK2. Overclocking helps, but at 180 on the 2.24 rom I have no complaints!
Sometimes I wish it could be quicker, but the most lovely thing is to work with different programs opened simultaniously without any problems, like: SKYPE (high cpu), pRSSreader, IE, Word, TRE register-editor and WMP all together without any lapses in the music-sound.
The only problem is the battery-life while continiously surfing the web: it lasts only 1½ hr.

Try bringing down the Brightness Level to MINIMUM.
Should give you more than that...

I have a Wizard and ever since I downloaded Total Commander & overclocked it to 240Mhz, the performance speed increased significantly. However, I've been trying to run Skype on it without any success. It just doesn't find an internet connecton. Can anyone help?

Imagio Overclock? HTC Performance

hey everyone!
I have been loving my imagio with the Orange Slim Rom on it, but there is always room for improvement... i have been reading about the HTC Performance overclock for the older qualcomm processors msm7x00, and was wondering if anyone had tried it on our Qualcomm 7600..
Anyone Care to be the first to try it? Im kinda scared since i dont have insurance on my phone.
Hey, I'm giving it a go now. As they say, you only live once, right? Or twice (insurance helps with that ). By the way, the cab you have didn't have the shortcuts to make the actual changes. I found one labeled "__with_shortcut_" floating around the internet somewhere that actually let me use the thing. It's about the same file size.
I haven't noticed anything too dramatic, but here's some of the things I think got better:
- Lists like the contacts or All Applications seem to come up faster.
- Populates the complete lists of songs on the touch flo music library much faster and maintains them better, especially after a reboot when everything's fresh.
- Speeds through the phone's setting menus now, where it used to slow down in a lot of places.
- Google Maps approximates my location the moment it starts now, whereas it used to take a couple seconds after coming up (I don't know why that is since it finds you first by using cell towers, but it's just better at it.) It also loads the maps faster when moving around.
- Weather animations appear smoother.
That's about it. No other applications load or work any faster for me, and animations are just as smooth as they've always been. I've enabled landscape support for just about everything on the phone, and nothing rotates faster either. That said, I'm running the Imagio's stock rom with nothing more than the SSK TP2 Dynamic Resource Proxy and Manila NoPushInternet to keep the memory usage down, so I don't really know how what it'll do for a custom rom. I'm really considering removing it though, since the gains I've seen are too small to run the risk of bricking my phone or draining the battery faster, which I feel like it's doing. It is very stable though, so I see no problem in giving it a try. It never locked up and nothing crashed. Hope your experience fares better.
Thanks for the Review of this app. I think more people (including myself) will feel a little bit more confident in using this app, knowing that we havent had any brick problems... Everyone that has downloaded this app please leave your view on if this app really works or not.
SPB Benchmark is very long in the tooth, but using mainly the gfx & cpu tests on
a fresh install of nrgy may 16th:
stock 524mhz VS dynamic 624mhz clock:

using nuedynamic clock to underclock the phone 384mhz VS 122mhz Note the voltage was set to 0 (least):
FWIW i also tried the near defunct nueoverclocktest cab to go from 524mhz to 768mhz. i hard locked ASA i switched it to 768mhz on both AC power and 100% batt power.
http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/post/2009/09/07/nueOverClockTest.aspx
so in conclusion, i highly doubt HTC Performance does anything AFA changing clocks & we apparently can't overclock.

Does this really work for HTC Mega (T3333)?
How can i test the CPU speed?
Is there any prog for testing?
Thanks.

Galaxy s5 bug

Hello,
About a month ago I had the opportunity to renew my mobile subscription. After 2 years of enjoying Samsung Galaxy S2 I decided to go for the new galaxy S5. So I got the phone and everything was fine for the first few weeks. Got use to the phone real quickly but had only one major issue. Every time I loaded up heavy graphical apps like asphalt 8 I got a really annoying and weird pixel rendering all over the screen. I have tried googleing my issue multiple times and have looked on many forms but couldn't quite find anyone with the same issue as I have been having.
There are 2 screen shots of asphalt 8 and a TV streaming app.

The bug also appears when i use the dual camera option.
I really like the new S5 and most of my other apps run smoothly on it. My question is has any one of you have or had this issue? Is it a software bug and should i not worry too much about it? I really hope some body can help me with this issue.
My carrier is T-Mobile in The Netherlands.
Yours sincerely.
M. Stuart
Since you mentioned that most of the apps run correctly, I would assume that your phone is acting funny only to a specific type of game engine or a specific type of code.
I would guess that it is not hardware related since you do not experience this problem on other apps.
Have you considered a factory reset to determine whether the bug persists?
Those could be artifacts. Does the phone get hot when that "bug" shows up?
I think it is a hardware issue. Smart phones are like mini computer. Computers show artifact on the monitor if the video card is heavily burdened caused by overclocking or just a sign that the video card is breaking down.

My phone does get a little hot when i'm playing the game. Its really weird. One day i had the game run completely smooth for a wile but then to back to the pixelated state in seconds. Oke i tried the next things: Usualy i have my phone in a flip case. After pulling the phone out. The pixels appeard only on the start screen of the game (asphalt 8) and some light flikker once in a wile.
Didn't know that it would be that big of an issue. The pixelation is still in the other apps. Now i'm wondering should i go to Samsung and ask them if the can relace my phone or do i have to live with it like this for the next 2 years.
Anyways thanks for the advice
Go to Samsung and have it replaced.

[Free Game] Death Board, a simple yet agonizing Windows Phone game

Death Board is a Windows Phone game that has the potential to drive you nuts. It is a game that challenges you to quickly find a matching number before the game clock strikes zero.
While the game concept sounds simple, you only have a few seconds on the clock and it's surprising how long it takes to have four digit numbers register in your brain. I'm not sure how much staying power Death Board will have but for occasional gaming or as a conversation piece, the game should do well.
Available for low-memory Windows Phones, don't be shocked if your score stays in the single digits with Death Board.
There is not much to Death Board as far as layout it concerned. When you launch the game, a tutorial screen that explains game play will greet you. When you think you are ready to play the game, tap the screen and a "3,2,1" countdown will begin.

The number you are trying to match will be displayed center screen with a handful of possible matches will be scattered around the chalkboard. Your game timer bar and score is displayed at the top of the screen. As soon as you find the matching number, tap it. If you tap the correct number, you will proceed to the next level of play.
Tap the wrong number or allow the timer to hit zero a tacky buzzer will sound and you lose.
The number possibilities are written upside down, sideways and at angles. I was surprised how difficult it was to read the four number figure at the center of the screen, find the match and tap the screen in what feels like three seconds.
Overall Impression
Death Board is a challenging Windows Phone game that will test your skills at speed and recognition. I don't think many will find themselves sitting down and playing Death Board for extended periods but for short bits of time, it can be a fun (all be it humbling) game.
The game ran smooth and while challenging, I wouldn't mind seeing the game give players a fighting chance in the beginning. Maybe add a few seconds to the timer and have it shorten as you progress through the levels.
Nonetheless, if you are looking for a simple, challenging and at times frustrating gaming title for your Windows Phone Death Board is worth trying. It is a free ad-supported game that does have full-screen ads but not with an annoying frequency.

Apps force closing on newer Androids

Long thread and I'm sorry if this is not the right place to post this, if it isn't please feel free to point me in the right direction so that I can fix my mistake
I'm using a note 3 N9005 and I've been jumping from ROM to ROM to find the most stable and less buggy ROM I can to keep this as my main phone for a while. Even tho most Android 7 ROMs were pretty stable, I needed to use a newer version because of some apps that are only A-8/9+ compatible.
Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, whenever I use any A-8+ ROM some apps keep crashing for apparently no reason, some even almost crash instantly on start (mainly Uber and Pokemon GO). Since I've been trying to find the reason behind it for months I'm making this thread to see if someone can help me on this or even tell me if this is something fixable, Android/model related or if it is just my phone dying
Here is what I have so far:
Uber/Cornershop - It's usable but force closes sometimes when changing screens or "under heavy load", gets worse on A-10 and becomes unusable on A-11 (FC as soons as map/drivers start to show up).
Inter bank - FC same as Uber but at random, so it can or cannot work when you need it.
PicPay - Instant FC when opened on A-9+, doesn't even give a message.
Pokemon GO - On A-9 it starts ok but then it freezes and crashes at random times (specially when changing screens in-game) and gets progressively worse/more frequent over time. On A-10 and A-11 it gets to the point where when you login and assets are loading around you, it crashes. On A-8 it freezes/crashes while assets are loading, same as A-11 but happens since first boot so it's unplayable.
All of these, apart from PoGo, doesn't happen on A-7 ROMs, PoGo still has some crashes but it takes so long to happen that they almost don't bother me that much. I also noticed that, on PoGo, when I turn off location before the assets show up, it stays longer without freezing/crashing (gives me more time to do some things that don't need my immediate location in-game).
Things I tried so far to fix these problems:
Different based ROMS - AOSP, GZOSP, AOKP, CAF, AICP (CAF ROMs seemed more stable, at least on PoGo but it can just be a coincidence or placebo).
Kernel tweaking - Using virtual memory, over/under clocking CPU and GPU, tweaking hotplugs, using Lspeed.
Using lolz-kernel on A-9/11.
Changing a bunch of developer options including killing all apps as soons as you leave.
Updating adreno drivers (tried with 2 different versions I found here on XDA).
Trying different webviewers - bromite, mulch, chrome, chromium.
Unfortunately I don't have any logs of these crashes since I have no experience with logcat or any other log program, also I was jumping from ROM to ROM and it was kinda hard for me to do it, but if it's needed it and someone can guide me through the process I can try to provide those.
My current setup:

Important to mention that my battery temperature sensor is apparently broken/misbehaving, it shows a lower temperature than intended, dropping even more as soon as a cable is connected (sometimes it even says "too cold to charge" and refuses to charge). I suspect a hardware problem on the sensor and USB jack since both are apparently "together", but idk if this is related to the problem in question or not.
Bonus info:
I noticed that some apps like PoGo Chat have weird graphical issues on A-8+ which I'm gonna include some screenshots below, the screen just flickers like crazy and stays like that, tho they never happen on A-7 so I thought MAYBE it could mean something?
Spoiler: Screenshots
Presume you have no problems on Samsung based roms/firmware .
That rules out phone on the way out .

If I remember correctly I had no problems using Samsung based ROMs, unfortunately they only go up to Android 6 so they lack even more compatible apps than 7 which is a deal breaker for me :/ for instance I can't even test PoGo on those since it's only for A-7+
