Droid X - edit nv items to allow carrier settings to stick - Droid X General

Hey guys, Im trying to configure my Droid X with my EVDO carrier settings.
I've configured the phone and the 1x settings already but the problem is that the EVDO ones don't stick, @vzw3g.com keeps coming back and I am running out of options. I heard that if you modify the NV items or something like that they can surely stick; but how can I read the NV .txt file and modify it with my carrier values?
I hope you guys can please help me.

[REQ] [MOD] Use 3G on another network?

I have a fascinate from verizon but I've just move to Vietnam and the CDMA network I use is S-Fone. I can't set EVDO on this network because there is no menu on the phone allow to set 3G. Some people said that VZW had disable that. Anyone has solution to solve that problem for me? Thanks a lot.
Please help me you guys. I will donate to you when I come back. ^^

You use that app for what? I just want to adjust the 3G setting to use EVDO on S-Fone network. I bought that app and just don't know how to use it. Please help me.
Just play with the settings. Like I said ymmv. I use it where vzw 3g is slow and I asuume it switches it to sprint and I get a better 3g speed.

That program won't work for you. It simply sets your phone to Roaming mode, which for a Verizon phone means the Sprint network. It won't work with your S-Fone network.
Is there a free program that does something similar to Roam Control? I would like to try it out but don't want to buy it without knowing if it will help my situation.
EDIT: I am assuming that applanet is not legal since the posts with the apk in it have been removed. Good to know.
You should make a profile with qpst, you'll need to change some other settings with that tool, I could not find other way to do it

could you tell me which settings I have to change? You use fascinate in Mexico, right? could you give me your QPST profile? Thanks a lot. ^^
OK, im goingt o retract my last stament about using roam control. It does make some difference but not much on my phone. I want my phone to use Sprints 3g when at work. My coworkers Epic gets 100+kbs. I have installed QPST but dont really know what prl to use or even it it would help. Maybe someone else has a better insight on this.

settings - wireless and network - mobile networks - access point names
in there are one, some or many APN's (acess point names)
Its a full page to explain everything, just find out what your settings are, and have a play, and a damned good read on here. after you make a change, press start and choose save, else it wont change till you soft reset. sometimes it seems not to change anyway till you reset.
if you are testing mms and a pic gets stuck on 'sending', , they generally never go, even when you finally get the settings right, so ditch it and send another.

Network Mode menu

Hello devs and modders, this http://samsung-updates.com/details/16850/Galaxy_Note_3_Snapdragon/SM-N9005/ZVV/N9005VJUDMJ6.html rom (ZVV, from Brazil) has an option in the Network mode that I like very much to have, LTE ONLY, so I can tether my notebook for gaming when not in home, I know the side effects of this mode and I know I can access a hidden menu to change to that mode [takes too many steps tough], but I would like to have that menu option on other roms or even better any rom with a mod of any kind.
So can someone help me with that?
Cheers
Just edit /data/property/persist.radio.lteon and change it to true (and reboot).

Mine already says true, but it doesn't show the option on the menu. Any idea?
BTW I am running the BTU-N9005XXUDMK2 rom.

If that is the case it's possible that the SIM card hasn't been updated, or the network provider isn't transmitting any LTE bands?
In my case, the provider is just starting to test 4G networks and I had to change the property and ask for a newer sim card (not sure if that is the case, but I did read somewhere that it might help).

How to Force Roam

I get poor Sprint service in some areas, especially at work. I'm wondering how can I force roaming when needed? Also, would I get My phone is un-rooted.
Roam Control is the only app I know of that will force roaming but you must have root to use that app.

Thanks, but was hoping to find a nonroot solution.
Anybody
There's no way to force rom on a unrooted GS5?
Still looking. Thanks!
Is there no way to force roam from Sprint if not rooted?
Not sure if this is what you're looking for...
but try going to settings -> more networks -> mobile networks -> global data roaming access and select allow access for all trip.
Maybe this is just verizon?

Thanks, but those options are not present in the Sprint version.

Rekindle thread, hoping to finally get a solution.
not sure if still around but look at roam control
Perhaps you should look into another option:
http://consumerist.com/2013/06/25/w...th-no-service-do-ask-for-an-airave-femtocell/
Most carriers have these "femtocell" devices. I had one from Verizon when I lived in an area with poor service.
With Verizon, anyway, the catch is this: your home address had to have bad service, having bad service at work alone did not qualify me for a free device.

Note 9 SE/UE Hotspot Mod...(Sprint)

I went outright and bought the unlocked, 8GB/512GB directly from Samsung (actually via Amazon and got the wireless duo charger and dex pad for free) and activated it on Sprint. I have been fooling around with the local as well as global APN settings. The global assignment of "tether_dun_apn" that worked on the SGS8+ (which I had and my daughter now has) did not work on the Note 9. Additionally, modifying the local APN to include "dun" in the APN type alone also did not work.
What I found that is now working (and unlike the SGS8+, you don't have to cycle mobile data) was to completely delete the "tether_dun_apn" key from the global settings. Also set the "tether_dun_required" to 0. After that, set the "APN2 LTE|EHRPD internet" APN type to "default, mms, supl, hipri, dun" in this order.
Once I did this, my hotspot will turn on every time with internet connection and has survived multiple reboots. Keep in mind that if you re-provision, at the very least, you will have to modify the local APN settings again. I haven't seen re-provisioning affect the global settings.
You can adjust the global and local settings from ADB shell via "settings put" command (or for the local APN, use something like QuickShortcutMaker as has been done in the past with the SGS8/9 and Note8).
Hope this works for you guys; it is working flawlessly for me now....and no root/custom ROM needed (never thought I would actually prefer to say that)...
Make sure you know what you are doing as changing the APNs (especially at the global level) can render your data connection moot...I would suggest "settings list global" from ADB Shell before any changes - copy that output and put it in a text file so you have something to refer to if needed. If you mess up the local APNs, you can re-provision and it will reset those to normal Sprint settings...

Sorry I'm new to this adb stuff. I need you to explain more thoroughly on how to edit the apn. Also please give the commands to type in the adb and pictures to show what it should look like.
heard you could get dex pad and charger free how, by doing amazon or?

Download QuickShortcutMaker from the play store.
Open it...
Follow screen shots attached in the below order:
1. Select normal search.
2. Enter "test" as your search term.
3. Select search.
4. Scroll to bottom where you see "com.test.LTEfubctionality" and click to drop down. Select the second "com.test.LTEfunctionality" entry.
5. In the resulting screen, select "Try".
6. In the resulting list, select "LTE APN Setting". Thus will bring up your local APN entries. The Sprint variant I have already modified only had one entry, "APN2 LTE|EHRPD internet", not all 4 like you see here for my unlocked version. Tap on this entry.
7. In the resulting list, scroll down and look for the "APN Type" entry. Tap on it to edit it. It should be "default, mms, supl, hipri, dun" in this order with no spaces between the values and commas.
8/9. Save the APN.
Restart your phone and it should work. You may have to cycle mobile data.
I may have put an extra screen shot in there twice...my bad...

Unknown. I don't know how Tmobile sets up their APNs or if they also utilize the global scope like the unlocked versions do.
You can follow the instructions I gave earlier in this thread to get to the local APNs, then take a screen shot and post it here. Just don't change anything at this point.
We can go from there...
