Yeah lol I'm honestly kinda worried that the market is going to be over saturated with Android phones. BUT.. this is great for us, because more phones = more users, more users = more devs, more devs = more great apps! The only problem is, there has to be a standard so that people don't buy crap phones and get upset when a lot of apps don't run!

Lock this one? When you have a thread about every phone announced today and none pertain to the evo or sprint....yea ok.

i am actually enjoying it because android is pushing cell phone technology like microsoft used to push pc technology in the early days (imho).
i mean really, we just got big 4" screens last year and we already have lcd superscreens and amoled plus screens and now dual core cpus... its great

Another thank you, but shifted

Like what i did in the title there? 2pro, anyways
Been following everyone going from HeroC to Evo shift. did loads of research as im picky about my phone. just took the plunge 2 hours ago and has not looked back!! i almost dont want to root it cause its already fast as F*$%
so point being: thank you to all the XDA devs and mods, and everyone else that points in there 2 cents and effort.
look forward to messing with this bad boy
If i can add to this thread. After reading specs i was going to get an epic. But after reading almost everything here im getting a shift. I havent seen one bad comment on it yet!! Thank you everyone on here!!

I'm sure I bad mouthed it initially, but I'm anal about my phones. Let's just say it has started to grow on me. The future looks bright
It's really a great phone, especially coming from a Heroc. Heck, I barely use the keyboard cuz' I have gotten used to "swyping"
...and the phone is smooth, fast, and all that jazz.
Is swype preinstalled on the shift?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
It isn't, but but the Swype beta was open last time I checked so go apply!
My only gripe is the screen size seems so small.

I used to own an Epic and man there is a hell of a lot of drama over there. Even on their IRC...the truth is that there are just not enough handsets out there yet. Dicks will eventually buy it and then start trolling here.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I agree. I think 3D is the most pointless 'innovation' since the cable card. Heck watching anything 3D makes my wife vomit and gives most of the people in my family headaches (I don't have either of those but I think its pointless). With very few exceptions, 3D is used as a gimmick. A hand pops out of the screen and wooshes over the audience. Does it look cool? Sure, but it also serves to immediately remind the audience that they are watching a screen. As an actor that just bothers me. The point of watching a movie/TV show/play is to be wrapped up in a story and a good one should make you forget you're watching anything.
Avatar is the only movie in 3D I've seen that I felt did that to a decent extent and even then there were still a few moments in there that just made me feel like they were shouting in my face "LOOK WHAT WE CAN DO!"

It will be up to us to keep them in line, and keep our little piece of the world free of riff raff.

The BB Playbook will run android apps.... I'm so getting one that thing is sexy
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...k-to-run-Android-apps/articleshow/7473802.cms
RIM plans to integrate the technology with the PlayBook operating system, giving customers access to Android's more than 130,000 apps, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the effort isn't public. RIM, after looking outside the company, is developing the software internally and may have it ready in the second half, two people said.

old, and retarded.
Why waste thousands of dollars on trying to figure out how to run apk files, when you can simply install AOSP honeycomb, and have it look 1000x better.

I think this is great. I'm curious to see if it actually follows through and how they will put the Android market on it... that's my biggest question. Seems unlikely to have a device with two market places.

If they follow through I'd buy one, always wanted a tablet that wasn't a Tab or an iPad. Having two markets isn't that ridiculous. Isn't there a way for people with rooted phones/jailbroken iPhones that can install the other's market on them?

What makes you say RIMs OS is horrible? The new QNX based OS looks great. It's funny that you are a WebOS fan, and wouldn't be interested in the PlayBook. They are extremely similar in terms of UI.
I've only read great things about their new OS. If you have some articles saying otherwise, I'd be very interested to see it.

Why do you feel the need to post this here? Don't mean to come off as an a-hole, but no one cares if you've changed to the iphone, so you gave up a locked down phone for an even more locked down phone that isn't nearly as customizable or fun to use, over some rumors. Im kinda glad you've changed phones now that I think of it.

So I assume this has something to do with P3Droids comments on Verizon "tracking" rooted phones right? (dude deleted the original post)
If your going to read into things like these, you have to keep up with them. If this guy would have, he would have known that Verizon currently can't actually see that your phone is rooted.
They HAVE implemented a way to see if your tethering in the new GB release. I think this is 100% acceptable for them to do. Period.
As for getting an iPhone. I'm not going to sit here and bash the phone. I may not like it as much as I do an Android phone, but everyone must admit the iPhone has some pros, like battery life. Everyone I know who has one has amazing battery life. This goes for Apple computers as well. Apple has it right with batteries.
Anywho, just thought I'd put my two cents in.
I guess the OP wants a phone that can't multitask and doesn't even have wallpaper. Good for him.

Happy new year!

Wish you all a very happy 2012!!
2011 was a great year for Android and smart phones in general. I hope the trend continues in 2012. Looking back i had great fun with Vibrant. Rooting and custom ROMs aside, what other phone could you open up and add a FFC, do hardware GPS fix or heck get a higher capacity OEM battery of same size The phone is holding up well with time with great screen and good graphics & sound performance. I would sure be unhappy by now if i got something crappy like HTC evo 4G or other "high end" smart phones that came alongside. That being said this phone is definitely due for upgrade in 2012. Waiting for a worthy successor.
Have fun you all!

I just wanted to make this thread to say good bye to one of the most amazing devs to come to the evo forums, keeping our 3 yr old evo alive and living still gingerbread like its running a brand new phone, he was banned today and wont be able to continue developing, hopefully hes strength in this forum will carry on, good bye jamie g

Jamie was always an all-around good guy in my book. Heck of a developer, to boot. He gave us one of the best AOSP ROM's for the OG EVO, and his Pac Man ROM for the EVO LTE was very popular, also. I hate all that's gone on lately. Jamie, best of luck to you.

maybe he meant to link to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37100847&postcount=5457
in fact he could only have meant that post since that's the only post jamie has made on xda since the flurry of posting activity that irritated the xda people in the first place.
hardly what i would call posting "regularly", especially since he explicitly says it's his last post ever on xda unless some site administrators explain their response.
i don't really have a dog in that fight. i just liked the way reloaded runs on my phone and appreciate jamie's dedication in making that happen. if more ROMs come, i'll flash them. if i have to find them on twitter, i'll find them. for now i wish him well, even if i expect he isn't going away for long.

XDA does seem to over-react sometimes, but you need to figure that we have alot of easily influenzed minds here in XDA(kids)we're their piers and XDA is just trying to hold some order in here,it keeps people from *****in and complaining soo much, noone wants to come to a forum where all there is,is flamming and griping about this and that, yea some or most bans, could have been handled different, but we dont own this forum,we just reside here temporarily, you should know this,Hip.

It looks more like the decision was Jamie's to leave XDA, not the mods. It has happened several times before where the Dev's asked the Mods to close their threads because of the drama that goes on in them. If he were banned, his account would be frozen and his threads would all be closed.

Thank you kendall. I think jrollercoasters started this for everyone to say positive things about Jamie's contributions to us and our device, not speculate on what happened. Let's all just give him thanks we think he may deserve as I believe that is what this thread was intended for.
If you want to know what happened, ask the man.
