Official froyo update

Does anyone know if the official froyo update will be OTA?

Most all of Android's OS updates are OTA. I am sure it will be for the Inc.

I would agree. The question is.... when? Everything I've read says "sometime in the fall".

Well, Google has a lot at stake in Froyo, so I hope that they're going to make sure it's fully baked before they release it. Plus they have the Flash factor - another reason to hold it until that's really done.
Given that, I don't expect 2.2 to appear in official OTA's for at least a couple of months and then HTC Sense builds are always behind the general release. Then you add the delay from the service providers (incl. Verizon) and Froyo OTA for Incredible in the Fall is almost optimistic =:-o
Rooted phones will always have it sooner...

Has the N1 not had the official Froyo OTA for weeks now?

They started deploying to the N1 and then stopped. Much speculation abounds about why, but no official explanation that I've seen. My g/f has a N1 and is about to drive me crazy wondering when she's gonna get Froyo. And when she does, I'm sure I'll be jealous for a few months

yeah can we stop naming threads "official froyo update" when there is nothing official, froyo-like or update-ilicious about it. this is a question, first google search, and if ur still unsatisfied then put a question mark in your post title.

I was reading some phone webite and it said the offical release from Verizon was to be expected in August. Take that with a grain of salt as we all know how these "official" dates can move around at will.

a vzw rep told me that it was coming out july 15-16.

omg haha...his twitter really is ridiculous. He is begging koush for cyanogen froyo rom. And obviously im sure koush wont give him a thing to "test" it for him, but I can bet he would rip it off of him first chance he got, only to come here and the rest of the android community and try convincing people he is the best developer ever.
It really is so sad that he tries to play make believe with his mad developer skills, yet all i can do is crack up at his fabricated stories. He is just sooo absurd. We have all seen how he posts things and finally after being backed into a corner by people who really know what they are talking about, he crumbles and apologizes with things like "im sorry im trying...i just love to develop and hack droids...uh dur". The way this kid acts on these forums mirrors his awesome youtube videos to a "T".
Anyway def needs ip ban. His "roms" and other methods and claims are really going to end up bricking some good and honest people new to android, or at the very least give the community forums some bad rep.

rr, please atop supplying everyone with false info. We would all love to have our froyo but let's b real. This month would be quite the stretch and htc hasn't even given us a timeframe so i doubt it would b anytime soon

Seriously, a run of the mill VZW employee has no insight whatsoever into the release. Only a core group, none of which are going to be dealing with customers, is going to be in the know regarding a target date. That guy in the store or on the other end of the phone... he isn't privy to any kind of information about this just yet.
Hell, at this point, HTC states that they haven't even finished their work on Froyo. After they're done with their work, they perform testing. After that, it goes to VZW for them to do further testing and then get signed off on. All of this isn't going to happen in the next two weeks.

dj05? what is it? who made it? how does it affect us?

What is DJ05? That's a terrific question...

Dj05 is an update from Verizon. The official one is not released yet. It is a fix for some features. Like the soft key backlight now stays on with the screen. It has a GPS fix and numerous other ones. The one You hear about is just a non official one.
As for the who.... that's not of your concern

The update is all over the place right now. I dont know why people are having a hard time finding it. And it boggles me why its not being posted in these forums.
But if higher-ups dont want it posted here thats the way its gotta be.
Either way look at it like this....this update will be out before 2.2...........so 2.2 is far off for us!!!

One line of the channel log from Verizon says its a preperation update for "2.2 due next year"

I read a post around the beginning of the DJ05 teases that amounted to, "if we released this on the forums, there would be an explosion of new 'My phone doesn't work!!' threads the next day". I believe it's not fully public here more for the protection of the end users and sanity of the devs than withholding goodies. The #Samsung-Fascinate channel of IRC is where the devs hang out to work out kinks, if you're interested in participating before broadcast release.

The "higher-ups" don't want it posted here because the "higher-ups" are trying to protect the people who leaked the ROM in the first place. Test builds are often watermarked and traceable.

Watch out everyone. Dj05 is insanely unstable, i just got fired from my job for leaking it. The sad thing is i dont work at verizon. Thats the kind of reach verizon has. Watch out. They just came and took my cat.

I'd be surprised if verizon doesn't leak this stuff themselves. They can monitor the forums and chat rooms to see how well it works and they get free beta testers who can't complain to them if it breaks the phone.

Verizons not that smart.

What is interseting is Samsung Galaxy S version on Sprint (EPIC) came out with Android 2.2 and it isn't DJ05. It is something higher.

2.1 was probably something higher than 1.5 too. Of course it's going to be higher. DJ05 isn't froyo, and froyo isn't DJ05.

as for the update... friend of mine that has it and it helping to test it for VZW has told me it will be another month or 2 for official release still far to "buggy", 2.2 that is....
on a side note i saw the new VZW Galaxy S LTE phone this weekend... its a prototype but freaking awsome!!!
the screen is crisper, has front facing camera, its a bit wider than the SF, but still very light. Comes with android 2.2 out of the box. from what i hear the data rates can be as good as 25M down and 8M up.
I must say that i was quite impressed with it...
unfortunatly i could not get a picture of it, my friend has alot of integrity.... sometimes thats a bad thing

Highly doubtful.
Epic just upgraded to 2.2, and Vibrant was scheduled last week but got postponed a week. If we were going to see 2.3 instead, then we'd have to wait months...first Samsung would release to International Galaxy S, then give it to all the carriers who then make modifications.
At this point all the carriers have been working on 2.2 so I doubt they would drop doing their work on this to skip over froyo.

i wouldnt be surpised if we skip all updates straight into 3.0 after all not the first time samsung ****ed us(all galaxy s will get 2.2 SHORTY after release).

At this point, I don't have too much hope for 2.2. I've seen in the past with other devices and OS that VZW skip a release or two because it failed their internal testing or something. I wouldn't be surprise if 2.2 was like that

I'm not worried about updates anymore...
I'm just waiting for my contact to end so u can leave Verizon.

Seems this is becoming a common sentiment. Go figure, right?

It seems as if Verizon is putting all of its eggs in the Motorola basket. They get updates/fixes galore.
I will be furious if the Fascinate goes the way of the Droid Eris (what I JUST upgraded from). Fortunatley, instead of burning an upgrae, I bought off of Craigslist.

You guys can't blame Verizon for us not having froyo. If t mobile is so great why don't the vibrant have it? And sprints testing is poopoo, if you read about their new froyo, I don't think anyone is impressed

Yeah I absolutely love the irony of everyone jumping ship from Verizon when the other devices haven't got Froyo either. When T-Mobile gets Froyo onto the Vibrant we shall see. The Epic is different hardware (different enough that Samsung probably shipped different drivers/RIL). This entire attitude of "verizon sucks" is just laughable at this point.

T-Mo sucks and has the spottiest data coverage of any carrier I have ever used. I can remember driving down the highway, using my Nexus One in the car cradle, and having to wait for Google Maps to load up my current location because the buffered map areas couldn't keep up since the data connection kept going up and down. I could get across the city so quick on the highway that the network could not seemlessly handle me moving across the network so fast. Verizon has been a breath of fresh air compared to T-Mo, and the only thing I miss is the control I had with my Nexus One. That said, the screen on this phone is nice and is really the top of the class. We will get 2.2 soon enough, and with the proper foundation, I would think creating 2.3 ROMs will be an easy prospect.

This lol. All the 2.2 roms depended on Samsung's leaks as a base to have full functionality.

This would be exciting if we had received 2.2 back in September, when it was promised. Samsung is a joke, but we all know that already.

I really think Samsung does it on purpose. I've gone through so many scenarios as to why they are delaying FroYo for so long, and I just cannot reason it. I am certain it is on purpose. Why? That's the one million dollar question. Could it be to sell more Nexus S'? Could be. But no one knows for sure except Samsung...
I just don't see how a company as big as Samsung can't devote the manpower to put this thing together and up and running months ago.

Maybe you weren't around to see the stupidly ridiculous amount of Froyo threads before the leaked builds started coming out. Maybe you're right and he just didn't find it, but we've all heard the same things before, by trolls and Samsung.

Because Samsung never have to made products that needs long term commitmenets. They make TV, Monitors, and Flash Disks, and dumb phones which were all sales are final kind of product; as long as there are no large manufacturer defect, it's pretty much end of support - minus some lemons.
They did have the omnia series, but they develop the OS in house, but was also slow as hell to push out updates. That's the only counter argument I foresee.
Overall, Samsung is just very bad at software, kind of like Sony before PS3.

According to Samsung, we will have 2.2 by the end of September.

wow! we all have this phone and are apart of this site. doesnt that stand for something? like the people who have this phone and know nothing of the mods or roms here really do love this phone. they might not be enjoying the luxuries that we have but they are content. besides if i can enjoy gingerbread on this phone before i upgrade it to something newer in the future, cool! if not i will enjoy all of the spectacular work that has been shared by the devs of this community!

what year did they say 2013? As others have stated Samsung has failed to deliver on 2.2 I think 2 or 3 times now and keep pushing it back.
Why would anyone have any faith that they are going to release 2.3 when they can't even get 2.2 out?

Froyo is just known to everyone now, theres hundreds of roms that have Froyo, might as well go on to Gingerbread.

It's not sprint fault that we didn't get 2.2 yet

After speaking to a friend of that works for sprint he told me that 2.2 is just now going into the testing process on sprints end samsung sent them the 2.2 around the end of dec . So I asked him how come when the evo came out it only took about a month for it to get 2.2 he said because htc already had the update ready for testing before the evo came out. According to my friend samsung was suppose to have the 2.2 update ready before the epic even came out which kinda explains why after alomost 6 months we still don't have it. I'm just passing some info so if you don't like what's in this thread please don't comment or flame.

But where did the leaks come from? Were they from Sprint or Samsung? I don't think I've seen a clear answer to that.

They've all included sprint bloatware, and even the first guy who leaked the fist froyo said it was from sprint. I know the later leaks weren't specified, but whosdaman nd a few others implied it was sprint, so that's where my money is.

I talked to a rather trustworthy source the other day. He told me it was evil unicorn riding elves that are preventing Froyo from being released. Apparently Sprint has wanted to release it for months but the elves keep threatening to kill us all if they do.
I'm thinking it makes about as much sense as everyone else's theories.

Now that we know that they know, that someone knows about us knowing that we thought the elves might not let them release it, I'm pretty sure we wont get Froyo till Feburaury 13th, cause sprint wants to kiss us on the mouth.

Lies. One of the reps showed me their version of froyo the day before thanksgiving. He said some employees got it to test.
