problem while doing factory reset - Wildfire General

hello all
i have wildfire without and custom roms.. had original 2.1 and now updated to original 2.2 wildfire.. and battery drains faster compared to 2.1 so read somewhere in forums that after upgrading to 2.2 if we do a factory reset and un install the task killers it works fine
so tried to do a factory reset as follows
switched off the phone
pressed volume down key and pressed power button
got to menu
selected Clear Storage
after that all i got is phone picture with big red exclamation icon in triangle
nothing happened after this
so had to take out the battery
and restart phone
phone started normally with all the data as it was before
so please help and let me know what i am doing wrong..

Boot up the phone as normal.
Go into Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.
Try that instead. It should reboot the phone again. Once that has been done, the phone may take longer than usual for first time boot up once data has been cleared off it. Give that a try and see...

there is no privay option under my settings...
i had stock 2.1 then upgraded to stock 2.2

in 2.2 menu,settings,sd/phone storage, factory data reset

Rogers G1 stuck in loop, and can't boot: How to fix?

I was using my Roger's G1 and all of a sudden, the phone reset.
The phone now boots, shows the Rogers logo, then the HTC logo/animation, and then the screen goes black, and the HTC logo/animation appears again, and again and again.
I let it go for a few minutes... same thing.
Only way to break the cycle is either take the battery out to stop, or "Send" + "menu" + "end" key to reboot into the same cycle.
I would like to not hard reset the phone... Any suffestions?
you have to wipe, you don't have a choice
if its the rogers version of the hardware you have to wipe.. even if you wait for a signed system image, it probably wont fix it since the problem is most time in the data partition. try booting in safe mode and uninstalling some apps (or back up your data and wipe) if you havent tried allready... (hold down menu button when the phone powers on, until you see the home screen.
The Rogers version doesn't play nice with all apps for 1.5. In my case it was the wake me up app that caused this problem. I did a wipe to correct.
I ended up doing a full reset, since I couldn;t get into safe mode to backup anything.
What do you recommend as a backup tool (without having root access)?

After trying to install the latest GB, my Droid X is caught in a reboot loop

I rooted my phone this morning and tried to install the latest Gingerbread using this guide: https://droidmodderx.wordpress.com/latest-build-gingerbread-2-3-3-4-5-588-with-root/
Of course, my phone for whatever reason restarted after installing the first zip. After restarting, I couldn't get back to recovery or reboot the phone. I tried performing a factory reset, but that won't work either.
Is the phone bricked?

You will have to SBF
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Thank you, after SBFing my phone and charging, I was able to re-root and install Gingerbread. Thank you so much.
Okay ... I'm having the same issue ... installed GB ... booted the phone up goes through the Moto Logo and the "Droid" & Red Eye then the short vibrate ... then it goes back to the "Droid" & Red Eye and starts all over again ... every once in awhile I catch just a glimpse of the home screen before it cycles all over again and twice I've seen a forceclose screen for Swype ...
I've tried "Safe" Mode (holding the menu key while booting) ... that gets me nothing ...
I've tried to boot into recovery (holding "Home" Key until Triangle Exclaimation), but when I get the triangle and go to hit the "Search" key nothing happens ...
I can't get the phone to stop log enough to get RSD to recognize it so I can flash it ...
Unless it "works" itself out of whatever issue it has with Swype (based on the forceclose error) I can't think of any other way to get it to stop long enough to flash it ...
ANY help would be greatly appreciated ...
Thanks

SBF. To SBF, you need to enter the bootloader. Follow these instructions (they're a little ways down the post):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11118819&postcount=2
Don't forget to wipe data and cache AT LEAST THREE TIMES EACH whenever SBF'ing, or installing a new version of Android or a ROM.

I have flashed almost every rom since the first update to froyo when I got this phone. That's with a 30.01 bootloader. That being said, I never wiped data or cache more than once. I have never had a problem. Wiping multiple times is only necessary if you have problems with it not wiping all the way

No, all files on your SDcard will be kept intact.

Installing froyo 2.2.1 keeps rebooting in start up

Hi All,
I want to share my experience:
I installed several version of CM (7, 7.2, 9) but none where my complete liking
so i said "I will install the 2.2.1 version again with RSDLigth"
everything went ok, but when the phone rebooted as part of the process, it was only rebooting in the blank screen and never entering the OS.
Even the RSD Ligth never finished the installation :s
After several hours it occurred to me that if i wipe the cache and restore to factory settings might help
So i took the batter off, press power button several times to eliminate any energy in the phone
place the battery and pres FIRST volume button down and then power button.
Kept pressing till the Android with a "!" appeared in the screen and then pres volume up and down at the same time and came up the recovery of the phone
cleared the cache and restore to factory settings.
rebooted the phone Connected to the pc, and the process finally ended and the phone worked.
Hope this can help some one else that might be having the same issue as i did.
Here is the link to the forum where you can have the installations steps to reinstall using the RSD:

[Q] Stock Rom Defy MB525 bootprob/freezes

Hi guys,
Since this morning I have a very frustrating with my Defy 525. When I woke up at 7 am, everything worked perfectly normal. At 10 am my screen and phone was totally frozen.
I decided to take my battery out of the phone since nothing worked. I hoped everything would work normal again, quod non...
Sometimes the phone is able to boot, but most of the time it is stuck at the red motorola-logo that is pounding like a heart. It keeps beating without the phone proceeding to the real Android-OS.
However, like 10% of the time, the phone is able to enter Android (2.2 Froyo), but then it freezes after +- 20 seconds...
What you should know about my Defy:
Froyo 2.2 (stock)
Rooted 6 months ago with SuperOneClick
I am a big noob, so I really don't know what to do. I've read this openingspost (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618718), but I don't know if that is of use.
Thx for the answers! You are brilliant
Try without SD card ...... if no work
You can try resetting the phone to factory settings (lose all installed programs, settings , and contacts but not the files in the SD)
1-Turn off the phone
2 - Press power and vol down at the same time .... you will see a symbol in the middle of the screen,
3- press up vol + vol down at same time, you will see a menu
4 - do a "wipe data / factory reset" and "wipe cache partition" ...
reconfigure your phone and see if fixed
