HTC wildfire update after root - Wildfire General

Hi All,
I have done some reading but I'm still unsure about this.
I have a HTC wildfire with 2.1 update1 firmware, still Vodafone branded. I rooted it some time ago but in all honestly have not seen any benefit bar being able to install a wireless hotspot app that I couldn't get to work.
I would like to update to the 2.2 version but I'm aware I cannot use a OTA update. What's the best way to go about installing 2.2 or is there a better cook out there that improves speed?
Thanks for any advice offered and sorry its such a silly question

check out Warriorvibhu's SUnAaBh v1.1
it is a very stable Froyo 2.2.1 build with Sense UI

Is there any way to unroot (change back to HTC default bootloader) and upgrade the offical update HTC 2.2?

not good idea. more than half of mine applications which required root now not working on my wildfire. That's why i'm waiting Hboot to be cracked by unrevoked. If i knew that i better use PuzzleRom custom 2.2.1 with root.

Do not apply PART2 OTA 2.1 update - If you need root.

I would like to remind ppl, because many of you didn't think about...
If you will apply, 2.1 OTA update, on your 1.5, you will LOOSE ability to root. Don't be fools, and wait until you get "official" rooted 2.1, then flash it by yourself.
Please someone make it more clear if possible...
...But 2.1 official cannot be rooted, after update.
So turn off your Update check on your phone, and wait until there will be 2.1 rooted.
P.S
Looks like there is possibility to downgrade from OTA 2.1!! Omg
May I ask why HEOR upgraded to official 2.1 OTA couldn't be rooted??
It is temporary unable or permanently??
Can you substantiate this claim? Proof that the instantroot method (using the package installer's privileges) does not work on 2.1 for instance?
@iholleh
It's not possible to root at the moment, it could be quite a while before someone figures out how to root it if its already on a device, however if its looked at enough I'm sure they will do it. when its officially released it will be rooted very quickly to be flashed as a zip.
good to know...thanks for hte info!

The problem is you can't say one way or the other.. so if root is important to you then you are better off waiting.

Thx bro! I just upgraded to 2.1 OTA and trying to downgrade to 1.5, failed however...
Wait for good news
I think we need to make clear. What to do if.
I installed the first package (First OTA, PART 1, Youtube App update)?
Like I heard in develop, if I installed part 1 update, this stupid youtube update, i need downgrade.
I don't really understand why, and how to do that. I think many of noobs like me are interested, what to do now.
I have promted by my phone that 2.1 update is realeased, and I did not downlnoad it, because I would like to have root, to install in a future Android 2.2, etc.
If so, and i have Firmware build number 2.73.405.93, or 2.73.405.94, or 2.73.405.95. What should I do?
Please someone, write step by step action guide.
(Downgrade, root, install rooted 2.1?) If so, how exactly?
I also understand that, there is 100000000000 of guides out there, but IMHO we need new one for a while.
Situation with "not installed" OTA part 1 is little bit easier? Normal ROOT, and install for coocked, and rooted official 2.1?

I guess so, but how likely is it that the hero's 2.1 firmware is different in this regard from anything else? A quick google confirmed that the InstantRoot method works on nexus one and motorola droid.
Edit: But a little longer google had me wondering if it does work on 2.1 again. Sorry, I should check more carefully. If anyone has tried it do step up.
Check out dev. section. Looks like there is way to downgrade.

Correct, just run the RUU
can confirm, this works ...
What if I want to root it up to 2.2 (Froyo) that would be fine because it is like you are upgrading to newer firmware?
Hi i just have a stupid question :
i'm quite lost with all the stuffs about the 2.1 update :
i have a 1.5 stock rooted rom on my hero.
i would like to update to 2.1 but keep the root thing.
and i want not to wipe my phone
So what i undestand is :
- if i update : i'm not root anymore and won't be able to do it with the 2.1
- if i want to be 2.1+root i have to use a full rom (rooted) to have both but i have to wipe my phone.
Is that right ?
Is there or will it be a way to have an update (not wiping phone), in 2.1, and with root maintained from my 1.5 ??
Thanx for help.. i don't what to do with this ota update...
Ciao

Is it safe to Update?

Is it safe and good to update htc wildfire from 2.1 to 2.2 (Settings - About - Software Update) if HTC is unlocked and not rooted?
I have heard that flash player (after update) is making some kind of problems is that true and should I Update my htc to 2.2 even it's unlocked to my network.?
I would like to know in short, if I do update will my HTC be locked again? And, can I, after Update "root" it using "unrevoked" ?
p.s. I don't have any backups made and don't know how to make them.
Thank you very much!

The wildfire doesn't support flash, simple.
No you won't be able to root after you install the official ota froyo, because htc updated the hboot, and unrevoked hasn't been updated yet.
No flash? How i watch youtube and etc?? What now to root or update? After update is my phone still unlocked???

I don't understand you. I have mentioned Youtube only because of flash support. I can watch & use flash with my Wildfire.
All I need to know is:
1.Can I update my Wildfire if it's unlocked (will it lock again) after update to 2.2 Android?
2.Can I root my Wildfire after update to 2.2?
Thank you
1: It should'nt. But, really, I have no idea here. AFAIK, You will not be able to update OTA if you are rooted and unlocked.
2: No. There's no way to currently root OTA 2.2 from HTC.

Ok. And 3rd question would be: Do I really need to update or should I stay with Android 2.1.?
If yes (need to update) can I and how backup my current system - if something like that is even possible - and restore again if needed?

[Q] Latest official ROM to use for debranding on wildfire?

hi all
i got 3 branded wildfire and want to debrand it, before i do, is this the latest official rom to use?
RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.25.405.1_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35 .15.3
1_release_142189_signed.exe
i,m not bothered about rooting etc, just want stable unbranded phone
cheers
Thats Eclair. If you want FroYo, there are safe ROM's (With just the HBOOT Removed) on the Wildfire Android Development Forum. (2.22.405 and 2.25.720)
That apart, if you want to stick with Eclair, 1.37 is the latest one.
thanks for the reply
i,m not bothered about froyo yet as i,m sure that will be done automatically when times comes but for now i'll stick eclair.
is there a link or anything where i can get 1.37 to use for debranding similar to the 1.25 above.
cheers

Yes, that's the latest Eclair. But remember, if you do get Eclair, and then, get FroYo via the official OTA update, you will lose root capability.
It can be found here:

hi
thanks for getting back to me, ermm i,m not really bothered about root.
as long as the phone is stable and works perfectly i,m happy, but i do understand i have to use unrevoked 1st so i can use the above rom.
thanks

[Q] unrEVOked 3 root

Does anyone know when unrEVOked will be able to find a root for the Wildfire on 2.2.1? I hope they find it soon. From how much they've been delaying it seems like they just don't want to even try. Should I disable the Search online for updates feature so my phone stops updating?
* They will release it when they want to. We have no option or control over them. If they want to try, it is their wish, if they don't want to try, again it is their wish. Live with it.
* If you are already on 2.2.1, there's no point disabling search for updates because it is extremely unlikely there will be any.
*Sigh*, why cant you read already existing threads before creating another one? Is it too hard?
omfg! seems like you have disabled search function for this forum, this topic gets posted at least once a day

WildPuzzle 2.2.1 (Or rather, ANY custom ROM), removes the updated HBOOT. So, obviously, 2.2.1 will be rootable in such cases.

No. You will not be able to use a Custom ROM over Stock 2.2.1 because installing a Custom ROM requires root.

If I understood what you said, then I dont think you have installed the official 2.2.1 update. I cant see that anywhere in your post. (Saying you applied the official 2.2.1 update).
When you went back to the Stock ROM, it was still at 2.1, which is why the HBOOT was still at 0.80. To install the official update, from the Stock ROM, you would have to accept the OTA Update, and then install it, which I don't think you did.

Not possible. There is some error in communication somewhere, but, if it were possible to directly put Custom ROMs over the official 2.2.1, we wouldnt have had threads like this everyday.
unless after you rooted and flashed, you then installed a ruu then updated you did not have 2.2. when you went back did you restore a nandroid backup?
you are able to install ota update on rooted phone

this is the rom i used to get the 2.2 upgrade http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LF2TWEHJ
But isn't it possible to modify oryginal rom from HTC to downgrade HBOOT , and then make Wildfire rootable? Or make some crash in HBOOT witch will allow to root? That's a lot of ways, is it possible that HTC make Wildfire really unrootable on 2,2,1? That they make unlockable bootloader? Like a motorola?

[Q] I don't get root on my HTC Aria

Hi, I already used a lot of ways to get root on my HTC Aria but nothing.
When I try with unrevoked I take the following message: "Error: Failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?" in the final of the process, I already tested on Windows and Linux and I don't know what I can do more.
HTC Aria AT&T - Android 2.2.2
Someone have an ideia?
cant root official 2.2.2
There's no known way to root the Aria once it has the 2.2.2 update installed. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about this.
Did you phone come with 2.2.2 out of the box? Did you update it? Did the store update it for you?
I updated to 2.2.2 using the HTC Aria Update.
My wife has a HTC Aria with 2.1. Do you know if I can get root with this version?

Yes, Unrevoked will work on the Aria with 2.1 on it. That's the best way to root the Aria.
If it's important to you to be able to root both phones, you might consider taking it back to the store and seeing if they will exchange it for one without the update installed.

Nope, that phone is now unrootable, period. (Well, actually it's possible if you sent it to someone who has special hardware, but not something you could do on your own.)
Do you know if the next version of unrevoked will support 2.2.2?
No.but attn1 has a found a hardware solution to root and s-off the updated firmware.look at the 2.2 rooting thread.
