well the answer is simple because the proximity sensor doesn't work properly
and you have to either change your build or i don't know figure something out
for me the proximity sensor works
and i am using nexus one build

Thank you,I will try your build

Please share with us the result, because I have also tried several builds, and it does not work properly on any. Mostly with Desire HD builds which I'd like to use and it is frustrating. Thanks.

I tried more than 7 builds but it didn't work,I spent like 5 hours to fix it but nothing worked and it's really frustrating. cauz I can't know who call me sometimes and see how many minutes I spent. please share if you have any results.
thank you very much !!!!

the issue is less sensitivity with the proximity sensor. Three reasons which I saw:
1) mechanical reason for less sensitive sensor could be screen protector which is covering left top side of the device. Remove protector from this area where you see two dots.
2) dust between sensor and screen. Blow some air between screen and plastic cover of the device. Perhaps with vacuum-cleaner.
3) this is not your problem apparently, but generally European type HD2 is less sensitive on light according the YouTube video I saw, comparing with TMOUSE device. On the other hand current kernels are the same for both devices. In this matter, put your device during call under the direct light and you will see.

Screeb lite +Android assistant +Brightness Auto off did the trick for me .
Try it ,it might work with your device ....

HTC Compass and Magnetic interference

Can't seem to get the compass working. Have tried the 8-gesture several times, but it just wont work.
Tried it both indoors and outdoors in open areas, but no luck.
Anyone else have this problem?

I think I've tried it in every possible direction and orientation now.. Did it work instantly for you?
I've seen the calibration screen yesterday on Leo exhibition .. and I totally don't understand what I should do with the phone. Is it somehow better described in manual or something ?
Oh .. found this on YT:

Now it even gives sense.

Didn't work for me... I can't understand how I can possibly do that gesture wrong
The manual tells me to follow the on-screen instructions
Had the same problem but got it work with vertical gesture
I don't know how many times I have tried to get it working, but thanks to the replies to this thread I have managed to go beyond the interference-message-screen. The tip about gesturing in a vertical direction did the trick.
My sincere thanks

It's probably just a crap application. I reckon the compass itself is better than the compass app makes it look.
gonna bump this thread a bit... I'm still having problems.. haven't gotten the compass to work since I got my HD2 in november, and I've tried quite a few different roms aswell...
Faulty device?

Mine is showing between 5 and 10 degrees difference for north, dependant on how much I wiggle the device beforehand.
Can't say it'd be wonderfully accurate anyway.
OP:
If you do the 8 gesture in one fluid motion that isn't too fast (say complete the motion in 3 - 4 seconds, it might work (mine did)
Gotta say I had almost given up on the compass. I had rarely gotten past the 'do a figure 8' screen, until tonight when i read the post about doing teh 8 vertically, not horizontally. Got a fix in about 3 figure 8's, and is as accurate as my Garmin GPSMap 60CSx inbuilt compass.
I'm not having problems with the compass...
sure, now and then it tells to do the eight-thing but I'm pretty having fun with it.....

Thank you for the tip, it worked for me too. Becuase I also had problems with the accuracy of the digital compass in the HD2, but this 8-gesture movement did the trick, and for my father's HD2 too... his compass was totally wrong, it showed 225° when the right direction was 310° (I tested it with a real, physical compass)
Have you noticed interference when pressing hardware buttons? Mine completely turn and points downwards when pressing the menu button in all compass apps and it is gradual depending on how firm you press. Seems like the buttons are interfering with the digital compass somehow. Holding down the menu button makes the needle really dance.

Several questions....

Hi folks.....,
Anyhow, I have several questions for y'all about the phone. I was wondering, can anything be done about the pink hue in camera shots? I've noticed that in some pictures, it's not so evident, but in others, it's clear as day. Is there a trick to this? I know that changing phones don't really work as it seems to be something to do with the tech of the camera itself + the housing of the lens or something.
Also, since this is my first time using WM 6.5, is it normal for the Start menu, to segment in terms of scrolling? Like, instead of a smooth drop all the way to the bottom, it goes in "pages" almost, if this makes any sense. Also, is there a trick to using capacitive screens? Whenever I try to use my fingertip to scroll, sometimes it registers, sometimes it half-registers. Is angle an issue here? Do you get better with this over time?
I'm running stock ROM right now, with a yellow-reset button if that matters, with 2.13. Having said that, what are some of the common things I can check for in terms of manufacturer's defects, etc? I want to try avoiding flashing until I've checked for these common issues first to save me the hassle of flashing back again, etc.
Thanks everyone! But boy...the phone is snappy.

I can't answer your question about the pink hue. I haven't noticed it in my pictures, yet.
Yes, the page scrolling in the start menu screen is by design. It's so you don't go way farther down than you wanted to. I think it's retarded.
The touch issues you are describing could be for two different reasons.
1st, I hope you aren't using your fingernail? A capacitive screen requires skin contact.
2nd, the 2.13 ROM has serious touch sensitivity issues. There is a sticky in the "T-Mobile USA HD2 General" forum up top that gives you a .cab to install that fixes the registry for much more responsive touch scrolling.
Since you posted this in that same forum, I'm sure you will see it up there!
Thanks for the reply. I actually tried the cab above by zim or something, and it made my touch scrolling so much worse in SPB Mobile Shell. So I don't know what's going on.
Anyhow, I spoke with a T-Mobile rep, and we went through the usual rigmarole, and he told me since I can't get rid of the pink hue, I should just go back and get an exchange. Anyone think I should do this? Or are all units likely to have this problem? How many HD2 users here do not have this problem for the T-Mobile HD2 version?
A good number of the units have the "pink hue" problem. You can see several videos people have made on YouTube about this.
I have a bit of it as well.
My contention...live with it because it seems as though you have about a 50/50 chance of getting another unit with the same problem.

Is it normal to see the pink hue even through the screen though? Like, you start up the camera, even just at looking at the screen, I can see the pinkness in the center already. Is this normal?
That's my worry too. Everything else with the phone works so far. No dead pixels, no manufacturer's defects in the physical case....my worry is that by exchanging, I'm increasing the risk of obtaining one of these other problems.
Edit: Also, I have to mention that the pink hue is without flash.

Mine...on occasion it does have the pink tint but when I take the picture it is not there. People said to try to take a picture of a blank piece of white paper and see what it looks like. I tried with my phone and it looked white and my friend tried it with his iphone 3gs and it was fine as well. I read somewhere about it being an issue with a number of cameras not only the HD2. That being said a lot of people have including myself have taken really good pictures without a hint of pink?!?!

Yeah, I figured as much now. I realize when I use the pad of my thumb and scroll, it's so orgasmic and makes me jizz in my pants. And to see the scrolling without the icons being rendered as you go is.....just ....how it was supposed to be.
Funny enough though, I can't seem to hit the corners as easily. This is apparently evident when for example, you're in the Phone settings, and you have the two arrow keys on the bottom right. It's almost impossible for me to use my right thumb without hitting 10 times while my left-thumb needs about 2 ~ 3 tries. The screen seems to register the touch at the center of my thumb-pad, so to speak. Is this normal? Or does it just register the area of the thumb that gives off the most "signal", so to speak?

The pink spot was addressed by an HTC-issued patch for the euro Leo, which is still available on the HTC support/updates site for that model. But, the patch states that it's for builds prior to the ones used in the Tmo models, so I don't know that it will make a difference, but you're welcome to try it. I think the same tweak is available in all the HD2 tweaks listed in the sticky on the main page...in the list of all the "touch-x" cabs smaberg posted, there's one there for the "camera fix", I believe that's the same thing.
I haven't noticed the pink spot on my HD2 at all, and I did a test or two with a white paper...but I honestly don't remember what lighting I used. If I were you, I'd just test it several ways (indoors/outdoors/flash/no flash) and compare the results.

It's much more prevalent in indoor shots without flash. For outdoor shots, it's hard to notice it, but the farther you go away from the picture, the more noticeable the pink blur is. The radius of the pinkness get larger as the darker the ambient surround gets, at least for me.
Im still debating whether it is worth the hassle to argue for a brand new one, knowing that the reps might be reluctant to shell out a brand new HD2 over what they'd probably deem as a "minor" discoloration or something.

Hmm, but I've read online it's more to do with the low-quality of the camera parts and nothing to do with software really. Seems like a hit or miss really. Still fidgeting at this point whether to get it replaced or not since everything else works perfectly.
Anyhow, running SPB Mobile Shell on this monster results in 0 lags/freezes.

Yeah, my understanding is that the root of that issue is hardware based...the fix that was released was just an attempt to improve the way the software tries to compensate for that. But yes the only way to 100% eliminate it is to use higher-quality (and therefore bulkier) hardware components, at least from the references I've read on the topic.

What would you do Phunkee? Live with it or try your luck for a new phone?
Also, does anyone know if enabling Wireless N increases your drain when using Wi-Fi? And if you'll see a speed increase on Wireless G networks? And does enabling Wireless N count as "voiding" the phone's warranty?

If it's noticibile enough in your own pictures that it bothers you, I'd only try for a replacement phone if they can guarantee you a new one instead of a refurb (might want to take it into a store). I still can't seem to recreate the issue for sure, at least in any pictures where coloring isn't already kooky overall because of lighting irregularities.
Keep in mind too that it looks like new/replacement units are now being shipped with the 2.13 ROM from the factory, so also decide if that matters to you or not.
EDIT: I don't know about the wifi-N drain or performance improvements...I have it enabled on mine but my work and home networks are still G-only. I'm 99.8% sure though that it does NOT void your warranty to enable that.
1. There is a CAB file for the pink spots, have you tried it on your model?
2. Wireless "N" seemed to drain my power more also. And no it will not void your warranty because after a hard reset it will turn the registry tweak off. Hard Reset brings everyting back to stock except for your call timers. (unless you HPSL'd your phone).
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. Right now, I've noticed that outdoor shots, it's hardly noticeable on the computer, so I think I'm likely to just stick with this phone. Everything runs great after all.
Anyhow, I wanted to ask, how do you guys use your screens? Do you use the base of your thumb? I can't for the life of me get scrolling to work when I use the tip of my forefinger. Not my nail, just even towards the tip, it's choppy. I test it out on the Notes program and I try to do a flick and I can understand why. Instead of a single vertical line being drawn, it's being split into 3 ~ 4 smaller lines, as though the screen is not able to register the touch continuously. Is this something to do with my personal body charge and how my finger is shaped? I only ask because I've used an iPod Touch before and I was able to scroll just fine with my finger tip. Is there anyway to improve the sensitivity even further?

There has been some sensitivity issues with 2.13; not saying that's it but a good place to start looking. There are also some registry tweaks for the flicking of your finger (how far it flips up/down). I don't have the exact link, but a quick search will get you in the right place. I personally use the end of my index fingers, thumbs, whatever finger is closest to the key I'm looking for.

by pages I wonder if you are describing lagging. Lagging should not be normal. I suggest you notate how much free ram you have and how your program screen behaves (smooth or laggy)by going to >start menu>settings>system memory. After, run clean ram and repeat the above mentioned steps. You should have more memory and a smoother user interface.

unable to unlock screen "screen totally unresponsive"

HI Everyone
my dell streak screen has totally gone unresponsive,i cant even slide to unlock it ,ive tried factory reset & reloading stock froyo 2.2 & still nothing .up untill yesterday it was fine till it just rebooted on its own now nothing
i have not dropped it ,have dells case for it ,its a o2 stock rom but no more
im now gutted ,& not sure what to do .
any help or any suggestions greatly appreicated
the answers you are looking for can be found on the forums HERE, HERE, and HERE
people have tried screen recalibrations and it seems to work, others have said its because of static and simply removing the static by swiping the entire screen with your palm fixes it
if that was the case i would except it but nothing works no static no washing of hands or no calibration fixes the problem, ive tried all resets &recalibrations the screen is dead to any movement
Thanks for the feedback here but my Dell Streak screen had died, unable to fix so as being under warranty o2 replaced it.
So now a Happy Streaker again
I have had that issue a few times too.I think it is because the pockets kinda squeeze the device a little bit,to me the solution is...put the device in your front pocket with the screen facing the outside. When mine faces my legs and I sit down after I stand up I come across this issue.
Dell you should know better.
Actually for me none of those suggestions work (even thought that was the way). I can make the screen freeze by charging it with the AC adapter. However usb charging doesn't freeze it.
No fix for now?
all i did was recalibrate the screen and havent had any problem since
Another cause: camera is running
At least on one device, the running camera seems to interfere with the unlock screen. If the above fixes didn't do it for you, have a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13604352
Quick test: cover the camera / light sensor (or put phone down flat), then try the unlock again and see if that does it.
Please post your results at thread above (would be good to know if that fix is specific to IDEOS X5).
Alternative solution: camera running in background
At least on one device, the running camera seems to interfere with the unlock screen. If the above fixes didn't do it for you, have a look at this thread:

[Q] Milestone 2 Touch Keyboard malfunction for numbers

a friend brought me a CLARO milestone 2 Argentina because he was possessed, the touchscreen was a disaster only, or all day was just pressing and there was no way to stop. I got out and as he did not hesitate to put him froyo to Ginger, because I saw it was CLARO the official version, anyway, I did, it was a love, was walking well and better than before, more fluid more consistently say, a beautiful version, the touch was wrong everywhere, tried the angry birds that had the apk here and went great, all was well until I got to the keyboard to call or send sms tab not recognize the touch, that is, if vertical, closed, and I want to dial a phone number, the numbers 2,5,8 and SEND does not touch them, do not squeeze recognizes not know how to say no, but do not walk, I jump to the side, as if he had a hahahaha dome, but it does not go well. I tried putting it on its side, if you use that are not going well is horizontal, or 4, 5 and 6 ... if I want to send messages, do not walk half the virtual keys, the whole area of the ghee and those around, but the rest goes as well, if I use the calculator goes all genius, if I use an application area screen goes as well ... I do not know is a very rare thing and I tried everything, I put ginger, I put another above that which I can not remember what i root CM9 unroot 10 and it turned to official ginger since in all cases I get the same ... I searched all the forums, in spanish in English do not know everywhere, and took two days and I'm going crazy over anyone not know what happened wave ... not hardware before and did not work the other apps rather the keyboard, Ideas?
Of course, if you read this far, thank you.
OFF: I put it here because I think it's firmware if a mod thinks it's wrong or what moves me know, all right. Thank you. Sry for my very poor english I_I

You can uses the option to show your touch points in the development options, in CM10 has, by there you can try to find a way tô fix the problem

Mine also creates ghost pressing when the screen is dirty.
Plastic screen covers helps to reduce this a lot, as well as touch failures when charging.
Are you shure thats's not a hardware problem? I never had this problem even when the scree is oil by touch my face. You better check this out.

[Q](cm11) phone app freezes, screen becomes unresponsive

Hi all,
Im at a loss here, I dont know how to move forward with this problem so im asking for help lol XD.
I just gave my nexus 4 to my gf ( just got my opo last week). The phone was running cyanogen mod 11 ( some nightly version between m6 and m7).
So when my phone came in the mail, I dropped her sim in my nexus 4 (witch was working perfectly) and after making a phone call with it, she tells me she thinks the phone app is broken or something...
So I have a look at it and this is what its doing now. When I call someone, as soon as you click call the screen goes black. To bring back the screen you need to click twice on the sleep/wake button on the side ( kinda like if you were closing the phone and re-opening it) just for the screen to show again but none of the buttons work. Well none of the phone app buttons work, I can still click back/home/previous app buttons or slide down the top menu just fine. just cant click any of the number keys, hang up, hit speaker phone or anything related to the phone app. So in order to hang up I have to click home and then use the drop down menu and click hang up under the phone notification.
Before droping her sim card in the phone I did a standard wipe/factory reset on the phone just to give her a clean platform. So since that was already done I've tried updating to a stable ( M9 in this case) release, problem is still there, so I tried to wipe dalvik, cache and done a data wipe/factory reset from the CWM recovery and flashed a fresh cm 11 M9 with gapps and I still have the problem.
Im at a loss at where to begin looking for a fix for this situation, I've looked on the xda and cm forums and ran plenty of google searches for this problem but im coming up empty ...
any help would be greatly appreciated,
regards
Chris
Edit: omg screen protector was interfering with the proximity sensor... Is this a common problem with nexus 4 or could this provblem still be related to my hardware/software ?
(I've never used a screen protector before).

If the screen protector isn't applied carefully, it might interfere easily with the sensors. If you want to check, then download a sensor tester from the play store, and use it to see if the sensor is working without any protector over it.

haha thanks for your reply, I've been trying to solve this issue for a week, been looking on the cm nightly and stable forums and here on xda trough all the posts that sounded closely related to my problem and didn't find anything... as soon as I post a questions 3 minutes later I found the problem.
To test it, I simply peeled the screen protector off and held it there while I made a call and it worked perfectly !! Then I cut out the part that goes over the prox sensor and its perfect again ( looks like crap but works ). Still gonna download that sensor tester ( curiosity XD).
P.S: totally unrelated to this post, I've been reading some of your "how to" posts here on xda, just wanted to say thanks for all the info you have put out there XD.

Hehe No problem
This happened with my co-worker's Nexus 4 (which is now my Nexus 4). She had been complaining about this for like a month, until I actually saw her screen, and that the corner of her screen protector had flapped loose and had a bunch of crud built up underneath it. It was a forehead smacker for me when I realized how obvious the cause/solution was. Not so obvious when I took possession and replaced the screen and had the same problem.
