old apps zoom? - Galaxy Tab General

hi all.
this probably has been asked but here goes again.
for older apps that launch -- the screen isnt zoomed.
i tried spare parts and enabled "Compatibility mode" which is already selected ....
yet an old app doesnt take the full screen. what can i do?
thanks

It depends on the app. Can you be more specific about what app your using? not all of them are going to scale to fit the whole screen, even with spare parts.

You have to uncheck compatibility mode then recheck it, then reboot, then uncheck it, then reboot again.

Uncheck compatibility and reboot, all apps should load full-screen (I haven't used an app that wouldn't full-screen but there may be some out there).

that worked. thanks!

Running spareparts is a catch22 for me, all the apps i have tested scaled correctly, but then my games get unusable, ex unblockme, space physics, puzzels..

[Q] Help - My open/close menu is weird

I just upgraded my HD2 from Gingerbread to Jellybean 4.2.2. So far everything works great except for my open/close menu.
Here is a youtube link of what I am dealing with:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd0ucQyyMMM&feature=c4-overview&list=UUL-MgWl4c3Iv-H1iy3YTbLA
I've installed
2.6.32_tytung_jellybean_r2
US T-mobile HD2
I've rebooted the phone many times and even tried reinstalling the ROM and I still have it.
If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know.
Thanks.
so this is about after clicking on menu button, it launches recent apps? or about the graphics glitches?
anyway, are you using the latest version of the rom?

This is about the graphics glitches. I have it so that when I hold down my menu button it takes me to the open/close menu. I have the latest version. I just checked for an update this morning and there was none.

Hey! Removing the live wallpaper did the trick. I don't know where to find the developer options (in settings?) but if I check the force gpu drawing like you suggested do you think that I will be able to use live wallpaper again?

Thanks! I now have developer options! I kept trying different things and finally found that disabling HW overlays fixed it! I hope that whatever that means doesn't screw up something else.
Hey, you seem to know a lot. I was also wondering if you know how to keep auto update on for the android play store but disable it for certain apps. My wife really does not like the new update to the google navigation/maops on her stock GS3 and prefers the old. I uninstalled the update to set it back but I didn't want to turn off her auto update because I know that she will never update her apps manually. Any suggestions?
@jimvsmij sorry, i have no idea about that

Open the Play Store > Go into the app you want to disable auto-update for > hit the menu button > You should find "Auto-update", uncheck it.
Other apps will update normally while this one won't.

I saw that option earlier but I thought that unchecking the auto-update would apply to all the apps.
Thanks!

Screen Overlay - Draw Over Screen permission greyed out. Cannot toggle.

Now and then my 6P informs me that Screen Overlay has been detected and that if I want to change the rights for this setting, I must disable screen overlay in Settings > Apps. If I tick Open Settings, and tick any random app, the option to allow that the app will draw over other apps has been greyed out. It doesn't matter whether an app already has this permission or not. I cannot toggle it.
I have searched quite some time now but I cannot find the solution. Anyone here with a brilliant idea?
Thanks
Only certain apps have the "Draw over other apps" option available to them (Twitch, Skype, Lux, Twilight, etc.). From Google-ing the issue, it appears that certain functions in Android and some apps won't work when they're being drawn over. Are you using an app like Twilight or Lux that warms your display at night? If so, disabling them temporarily should allow you to change permission settings on apps.

Thanks for your reply. This made me thinking and I realised that I have the ScreenAdjuster app installed. After freezing that with TiBu I was able to perform the action that I wanted. So problem solved (at least I'd like to think so). The only thing that still puzzles me is that the toggle for allowing to draw over another app is greyed out at every app.

The majority of apps do not have the option available at all. Skype has it so you can view video call while in a different app, Facebook has it for their chat bubble system, and a some others that do similar things. As well as a bunch of Google apps for seemingly no reason.

Question: screen overlay detected... How do I fix it?

Hi,
I am trying to use Waze on my phone, but the app won't open as it keeps saying screen overlay detected. I have gone into my settings and turned off the overlay for all the apps apart from the system apps. But it is still not working.
I have tried searching on Google, and don't have any of the apps installed like twilight, luxe or Facebook which are supposed to be causing the problem.
Any other suggestions on how to fix it?
Cheers

Not sure what swipe home is? It's not listed under apps, I usually press the middle button to get to the home screen

Screen Balance (which adjusts screen colour balance/tint) and which I recommended in another thread creates an overlay.
Certain apps will not function properly unless SB is turned off.

It's not a stock app it's a downloaded app from the play store.
I usually turn off off all the apps using it and turn it on after... It's a frustrating issue but what are you going to do.
If it's bothering you find a good Rom, for example Superman Rom, Overlays was removed as it's too much if s hassle

It has nothing to do with any of that, it's Google's fault. You can flash a fix which is in Phoenix rom thread or go back to a previous stock rom

Sorry, I didn't make myself very clear. Screen Balance is an app, separate to the UI's adjustments.
I had the same overlay issue, what I did that Ive disabled all the apps altogether, and switched them on back one by one, discovered that an application called Swipe Home Button Ive installed was responsible,so I have uninstalled after which everything was normal.
Is it safe to turn off the overlay for the system installed apps? I have turned off the overlay for all other apps that I have installed
The app that was causing me this problem after this weekend's AT&T software update was Bing. I Uninstalled it and all was fine.
How I finally fixed the "Screen Overlay" problem on my S7 edge.
The easiest fix, only full fix, I have found is as follows. When the screen overlay screen opens in settings, just turn everything marked on to off. Which by the way is the only thing you can do on this screen. Since I did all my apps, even the ones that weren't working, are working as they should. Hope this helps someone.
As Richie and Monigote stated, flash the screen overlay fix from Phoenix ROM. LoL pay attention please

even when I tried to turn overlay off for all apps mine still was going wrong and I couldn´t use some apps...the only way I got this fixed was making a reset (from the configs options it self) from all my configurations, just configurations, not all data in the phone, it works fine for now...
now I´m with problem with my mobile data connection, I don´t know if it´s from my brand or my phone...

The message about overlay detected i have seen and experienced a number of times.
BUT the only time this has occurred is when i was using SideSync
i.e. I am using it to Remote control the device using my PC
or am using my PC to display my Phone within my PC screen (So i can use my phone while using the PC)
The warning was being presented by some apps because SideSync was overlaying the screen to mirror it to my PC screen)
As soon as i disconnected this message stopped.
Not am not saying your using SideSync, But any other app you have installed that can mirror / allow remote access or displaying your phone screen on another device like PC may be causing the problem

Apps not showing on home screen

Hey guys, I will try to find include as much info as I can. I have Google play loaded on the device. I tried to uninstall an app and the icon remained, trying to uninstall it again gives me a pop-up about the app files do not exsist. Ever since then if i install an app from either the play store or the Amazon app store they will not show up on the main screen. The apps are there and I can remove them via settings. I have tried a hard reset as well as reinstalling the initial app that caused the problem. When I do that the app icon works again but no new apps show up still. If I uninstall it again it does the same thing as the first time, the icon stays.
I was hoping there was something running in the background i can clear the data for or something to fix this. I do not know enough about it to tinker around with it. I have some stuff downloaded from Google play that i cannot backup. A factory reset will lose the data on those accounts so I am trying to avoid it.
If you have any suggestions I will gladly try them, thank you in advance for your help
Mine is doing the same today, I've uninstalled it but the icon remains on the screen. I've also tried others that I've installed from Google play, all behave the same.
Are new apps that you install showing up? I cannot get any new app to appear.

Same issue happening on my Fire HD 10. No newly downloaded apps showing on home screen, and icons for uninstalled apps are grayed out. Tried clearing the home screen cache, but no luck.

This might be somewhat related. Please try the following trick to see if it helps:
(1). Settings --> Apps & Games --> Manage All Applications
(2). Swipe left in order to display "ALL" applications and then scroll down to select the application named "Home Pages"
(3). Tap "CLEAR CACHE" and then "FORCE STOP"

cant create folder shortcut
Sorry to wake this thread up, but I can't seem to create a shortcut to a folder on my sd card on the fire hd8 tablet for kids. I have downloaded many different file explorers, have used them to create a shortcut, they say the shortcut has been created and is on home screen, but the folder shortcut never shows up on the home screen. Any help please....

How do I UNHIDE an app????

I was having trouble with an app (Android Auto) so I disabled it, which I shouldn't have, because it hid the app on my screen. As a result, the app no longer functions with my car.
Can somebody please tell me how to UNHIDE the app? I have watched 20 YouTube videos on how to unhide apps, unfortunately, they all show things that I do not have on my version of Android 10.
Thank you!

Should be pretty simple and standard... I am assuming you are running stock A10 - if not, the names of the options in Settings may be a bit different, but the idea is still the same. Go to Settings -> Apps & notifications -> App Info. Above the app list there is a dropdown - make sure "ALL APPS" is selected, so both enabled and disabled apps are listed. You should see the Android Auto on the list below, marked as "Disabled". Tap on it - it will open the app details, then hit "Enable". That's all.

Thanks, but I did all of that! I see Android Auto on the list, but it is not marked as "Disabled." When I click on it, it appears as Enabled in the app details.
However, that's not the problem. The problem is that the app is hidden from my Home Screen. So, in order for me to access it, I have to go into the Settings, etc., etc.
Is there a way to UNHIDE the app so it appears on my Home Screen? Thanks.
PS: I am running stock Android 10.

This is now normal behavior for android auto, the app is hidden and will only show in your car when you connect to your car (as far as I know there is no way to use it on your phone like the older versions), even if you add a shortcut to homescreen it will only allow access to the settings screen (I assume).
If it's not working with your car, go to settings>apps>android auto>storage> and then clear storage to reset everything. While there check it has all permissions granted.
If you want to use AA on your phone maybe consider sideloading an old version (from a reputable store like F-Droid) which still worked from the handset.
