Random reboots issue. - Optimus 7 General

Hi guys.
From what I've seen, me and some other LG E900 italian owners have problems with a random reboots issue, just like the HTC HD7.
Italian thread: http://lab.vodafone.it/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10027&t=16510
In 10 days, the phone has randomly rebooted 3-4 times, once while charging overnight, once while browsing the contacts, once while downloading a trial from the Market and once while doing something I don't remember.
Is it a problem just affecting italian owners?
I really hope it's a software bug being fixed by next updates...

fwiw I have the north american version and have never experienced a random reboot

Are there really different versions of the phone? I thought it was the same version world wide!?
I live in Sweden and i've had mine for about 7 weeks and it has ramdomly rebooted about 5-6 times. Never when i've used it but ones when it just laid on the table next to my computer and the other times at night, and i have noticed it when waking up and i have to enter pin.

Same here... most of the times it reboots when you're not using it. So weird.

It is a different model number, e900h ... whether there's any difference or not, I don't know for sure.
With the Expo/IQ/HK versions (also from LG) they had the same hardware specs, differed minimally in model number (gw820/gw825/gw825v) and all had different radio versions (in addition to different winmo roms) so maybe it's slightly different firmware.
it occurs to me I can check
Model: LG LG-E900h
OS: 7.0.7004.0
Firmware: 1.0.2.14
Hardware: 1.0.0.0
Radio SW: 1.0.2.14
Radio HW: 0.3.5.0
Bootloader: 1.5.0.0
Chip SOC: 0.30.2.0

Hey guys,
I'm a German owner of the e900 and have also experienced the reboot bug. It seems to occure only when the screen lock is activated. My firmware and radio software versions are both 1.0.1.12. I hope that LG is aware of this and can resolve it with a firmware update.
PS: The model number is LG LG-E900.

It happened to me twice while I was dowloading an application from the market.

Reboots
I get constant reboots on my LG Optimus 7, Canadian Telus version.
It reboots sometimes when I place device in my pocket, issue happens usually in looser fitting pants.
I also get the same issue when I am removing from changer.
I have called LG Canada, they ask me to remove battery for 30 seconds.
Has anyone identified the cause, is this a defect with some units.
In LG Canada's case, they take 4 to 6 weeks if I return to them via Telus.

I have the same version, and have yet to witness this issue. It is certainly a defect. I recommend you return the phone and get a new one if you have bought it in the last 30 days. Or simply take it back to the same dealer you bought it from, and by their agreement, all Telus resellers and dealers have to replace your defective unit free of charge for 30 days (some say 7, but be persistent, they are bullshitting you.)

I purchased via private sale, seller is a Telus employee, he suggests sending in for repair.
6-8 weeks.
I will wait for ROM update, if problem persists, I will sell unit and never buy LG again.

hi everyone I'm new here
anyway, I also experienced this issue some time ago
I'm from Mexico and my phone is an e900h
and I used to have random reboots when I was using any app or when downloading one, etc
I then changed the language settings to spanish (I had it on english and changed it to spanish which is the original setting for my country)
A few days after that the rebooting was "magically" fixed but then I found another problem and that is for example when I make a call I can't hear anything unless I plug in a hands free or activate the speaker, also when I record a video I don't get any sound from it unless the hands free is plugged, otherwise it just records a very annoying interference
has anyone experienced something similar to this?
oh and sorry for my bad english, I'm working on it

Never had isseus during phonecalls.
Anyway, since last reset, I've removed the PIN from my SIM card, so I don't notice anymore random reboots during nights. Now, I've just some issues with the marketplace, that crashes sometimes or makes the phone reboot. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that's software-related, I hope they will fix it by next patch.

Random Reboots
Has anyone been able to determine the cause of the random reboots.
If it is a ROM issue, maybe the MS update coming will resolve the reboots.
I am more concerned that it may be the following:
poorly built app
hardware issue
Hope it is just the ROM

How do you remove PIN from SIM?

i can assure you the reboot problem is not a software issue,i experience it first hand, had to go down to the local service centre here in Singapore, they swap out a new motherboard for me,no reboot since.

Did they tell you what caused the reboot issue?

nope, they didnt,i bet if they did, everyone will come and get it swapped out.oh,and if you have bluetooth and or wifi problems, they would swap out the motherboard for you also.just did for a colleague just now in the afternoon for a wifi constantly disconneting issue and 3g keep losing signal.

My phone has recently started doing this. I'm in the habit of rubbing the screen on my shirt before I use it(fingerprint wipe). Recently, doing this causes a reboot, but only if the screen is locked. Now, I must first unlock and then clean the screen, no problem. How many of you with this problem have an unhacked phone?

I sent mine in for repairs today. I had 3 symptoms
-random reboots
-sudden loss of sound/voice
-repeatedly coming out of standby on its own
If you're having any of these I suggest you send it to get fixed/replaced before the warranty runs out. Bloody expensive things are supposed to last 5years, they can't even last one month.

T-Mobile MDA Compact prob when receiving calls?

Hello,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact (UK) that I got several months ago. The details of the device are:
ROM Version: 1.01.00 WWE
ROM Date: 10/21/04
Radio Version: 1.00.10
Protocol Version: 1337.36
ExtROM Version: 1.01.128 WWE
Firstly I havent; installed ANY software on this, apart from whats already on it and I have given it a hard reset (re-installed everything) once and the problem
still occurs.
=== THE PROBLEM =========
This doesn;t happen everytime I receive a call, but it happens often enough to become very annoying.
If I receive a call from someone at a certain point and then after the conversation I press the red hang up button the phone screen loses its little "X" in the
top right of the screen. This then prevents me from leaving the phone call screen.
Press the red hang up button again or holding it down doesn;t return me to the today screen neither, Ive tried pressing every combo of buttons the the thing and
it stays on that screen.
To fix it I have to do a soft reset and reboot the damn phone, which is annoying.
It was happening a lot before I done the hard reset, after I reset it didn't happen for a while so I thought it was fixed, but its started doing again now... and
doing it too often for my liking now.
The only thing I have done is install a new theme... could it have anything to do with that? If not what could it be?
T-Mobile UK havent released an update for the MDA Compact yet, but there is one on the german T-Mobile site... but I dont want to risk installing that... or could
I?
Any help you can give will be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve McKeogh
I've seen a number of probs with different Compacts but never heard of that one before. It's not something I've experienced on my own one either, which leads me to think it may be a fault on your handset. I have something similar when I use my camera occasionally but I put that down to mucking around with software updates, but if you haven't changed anything I'd go with a fault. It can go for repair under warranty, which means they'll probably do a complete software upgrade or exchange the unit, so make sure all your important stuff is backed up before you do.
I tend to agree with the Bulletman. I had the exact same problem with 2 brand new xda IIi's and returned them (o2 not happy!). i did however find that when I installed SPB pocket plus 3.0 , which does shut down the phone dialler/application properly, that that problem was resolved.
Still I concur that it's most likely a hardware issue as I still had poor reception, poor call quality and consequently lost calls! Get it repaired or replaced if you can. My current MDA Compact never does this and it has all the original Rom and software on it, but works flawlessly, hence I've never upgraded.
If it ain't broke why fix it?
i noticed your rom is 1.01, ever throught of upgrading to 1.12 WWE?

[Q] Omnia 7 turns off immediately after switching on

I got my phone from Expansys a few months ago.
I've been trying to install Mango 7720 using the instructions in this thread. Having seen so many people say they did it no problem on their Omnia 7, I decided to give it a go.
I had NoDo on my phone, and during the update to 7712 the update failed, claiming I had removed the USB cable. I didn't and I still have no idea why it failed. Anyway, after thinking my phone was bricked, I managed to get it back to life by installing a stock ROM ("XXJL3 RETAIL UNITED KINGDOM") and I've now updated it through Zune 4.7 back to NoDo.
Now about 8 or 9 times out of 10, my phone fails to start up. If I have it running only on its battery, the phone switches itself off a second or two after I turn it on (while the "Samsung Omnia 7" screen is showing). If I have it connected to the PC while I turn it on, it gets stuck in an infinite loop where the white "Samsung Omnia 7" logo is displayed, the screen goes black (presumably phone reboots itself) and then the logo is displayed again.
Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to have to buy another phone.
Details from "about" below:
OS version: 7.0.7392.0
Firmware revision number: 2424.11.2.3
Hardware revision number: 3.15.0.4
Radio software version: 2424.11.2.2
Radio hardware version: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader version 5.2.1.4
Chip SOC version: 0.36.2.0
I have the same problem
but it was nodo 3 months ago and now it is the same problem looping and stuck in omnia 7 logo
I post too many thread in a different forum Unfortunately no body give a good answer
if you have any news please post because I need the solution
did you guys install that KC3 update from samsung?
When i had that installed it would cause my phone to get stuck in the reboot loop (boot > logo > boot > logo) when attempting the mango update. I had to re flash my phone for the mango update trick to work.
You are NOT alone!
This is a very similar issue to what it won't boot but stays looping on "Samsung Omnia 7" when tried to restart the phone.
To pull the battery out for about 10 minutes then it will start once but issue still remains.
This issue looks like happens on all versions of ROM and Mango.
As far as now, I don't see any solution yet.
I sent my phone to Samsung for repair. I got it back yesterday and it looks like they have installed the Orange France software on it despite my phone being a completely unbranded version.
Not only that, but the issue is persisting. All I need to do is browse to any sort of resource intensive website and the phone will crash.
From my experiences, Samsung has the worst service in the world. Not only the cell phones, but also other electronics.
I feel sorry for myself that I bought the Samsung Omnia 7.
motherboard failure?
i have the exact same problem as you, my phone will restart by itself for no apparent reasons... even simple task like browsing also will restart...
at first i use as it is...but when i try to update to Mango Beta, the phone goes into infinite loop, cant even hard reset
so i took it to the service center and they told me is motherboard failure. Changed a new one for me and now my phone didnt even restart once... i use it for few months without even switching off....

Confirmed.
My first Omnia7 turned on once, then rebooted and went in the loop since then. Being the first week it was available there were no threads in forum, local support personnel didn't even know what phone it was and obviously had no battery to try to replace. So I had to send it in for warrany repairs, at my shipping expenses. Came back after 3 weeks.
But I'm still thinking it has to do with the battery, sometimes it's still acting up and the battery shows it's empty even if it's not
Try Windows Phone Support Tool. It won't make any harm.

How and where did you send for Omnia 7 warranty repair?
Thanks in Advance.
My Omnia 7 picked up the Samsung update in August and I'm absolutely convinced that this is the cause of my device's crashing/booting issues, but I'm open to persuasion from anyone who has experience otherwise. I'd not had any instability until this update got applied but ever since it's been an absolute nightmare.
Whenever it crashes and reboots itself I'm also covinced that it's got something to do with attempting to retrieve data or access one of the radios, because it always seems to be when an app starts an attempt to retrieve data (e.g. IE or Twitter, etc.)
Since getting Mango yesterday (despite it refusing to boot on nuerous occassions during the update process!!) my about screen shows the following;
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware revision number: 2424.11.8.5
Hardware revision number: 3.15.0.4
Radio software version: 2424.11.7.2
Radio hardware version: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader version: 5.8.1.9
Chip SOC version: 0.36.2.0
I'd be interested to know if anyone's tried replacing the battery or even the storage card to try and fix this.
I should be getting a HTC Titan when our corporate contract is up for renewal next month, and I'm planning on rolling back the Omnia 7 to a pre-NoDo image to see whether the issue continues or not, anyone else tried anything similar?

I have tried everything including battery change, rolling back versions... could not resolve it. My research found that I'm not alone. I'm waiting for Samsung UK to reply my service request now. Unfortunately, I'm in U.S.

I sent it for repair again and got it back today. This time, they have installed the T-Mobile UK software on it. I don't understand why they can't just put the unbranded software on my phone....
I've had this problem a lot in the past month, at first it started happening after trying to update from nodo to mango beta (via legit developer method) I got stuck in the boot loop and it was a real pain to get it updated. Throughout my use of Mango beta it would crash quite a lot, but it seemed to be getting more frequent.
I was hoping it was more of a bug with the OS than the firmware/phone. However, after updating to Mango 7720 the problem seems to have got even worse.
It crashed a lot during the update process. And now it's a real struggle to get it to turn on. I have the exact same firmware and bootloader as Dbooth and the same problem
I've submitted a repair with samsung.
*EDIT*
I've just done some testing and it seems that my phone barely crashes without a sim card in it. So I'm going to reflash to an old Orange UK Rom and see if it fixes it. I know I updated to a generic rom, hopefully this is what is causing the problems for me.
Fishfingers, how long did it take for samsung to repair your phone?
Also, I'm guessing they just repaired the faulty part, and not a new phone. I've heard that it is something to do with a motherboard issue.

[Q] Hardware issue?

K so i have a long list on how i got to where i am.
My light sensor wasn't working so i wanted to see if a factory reset would fix it.
It didn't, instead my proximity sensor stopped working after a factory reset.
Thinking that it might be a problem with the software and not hardware, I went on a search to find out how i could get it back to how it was when i first bought it from rogers, with out No-DO or any other updates.
I found a link to the original rom from someone on the forum here and i set it back to how it was when i got it.
After that my phone has rarely connected to the network. I get E and G connections but it never shows 3G. And when it does connect, it quickly looses the connection.
It isn't an issue with my sim card since i tried it in another phone and it worked.
I'm wondering if this is a software error or hardware...
Thoughts? Possible fixes?
More technical details please:
- what carrier are you currently using it on (I understand the phone was on Rogers originally)?
- os/radio/fw version
- are you using a microSD card and what class/size/brand
Also, I didn't understand: after flashing 7004, your sensors started working again? Or in addition you're having 3G problems.
I am still with rogers.
The OS that i put on it was 7004.
Radio software: 2124.20.12.2
Radio hardware: 0.0.0.3
After installing the sensors didn't start to work again and the radio stopped working properly.
I get Edge and G connections with full bars for about 10 seconds and then they go away and come back randomly. I can send a text and receive them when i get these signals. But i never get a 3g connection.
No micro SD card
Yep... besides my Focus continually restarting at random, I also have the same issue as above. My proximity sensor does not work anymore!! But i've learned to live with it and I just turn the screen off when I'm on a call.

Looks like a hardware problem. After flashing to 7004 you should have an equivalent of factory product. If that doesn't work properly, it's not software. Go for warranty.
Just an update... i took it back to AT&T to have them look at it, and when they realized that they could not re-flash it, they replaced it for me with a brand new one.
I hope this is the case for me.
DO you think they will know if i flashed it back to the factorization rom from rogers? the one found on this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131022
I really hope they don't give me a $100 bill for fixing the phone

They're not going to know. I took it to AT&T and when they realized that they could not reflash it, they just went ahead and replaced it. The sad thing though is that they still gave me the same back cover and not a new one!

[HELP] my Omnia7 will not stay in standby! it switchs on alone

Hello guys,
I have a very strange but really bad problem: my omnia7 can't stay in standby.
When I press the power button, to turn off the screen and go in standby (so not the full turn off), my Omni7 wakes up alone, going on the unlock screen. In the same time, the phone rings with the ring that is played when you connect the phone for charging.
I've tried reboot, reset, hardreset, removing the sim-card, turning on/off "battery saver options" ... still that issue :crying:
Anyone has an idea?
I've flashed with a cooked rom (xda-devs Omnia7 Tango V4.0)
my current config :
OS version : 7.10.8779.8
hard version : 3.1.0.4
soft radio version : 2424.11.7.2
hard radio version : 0.0.0.800
loader version : 4.10.1.9
SOC version : 0.36.2.0
Thanks to any ideas, because that problem is killing me
my phone started doing this late last night too! i thorght it was because rain had gone into the power socket but if others are having same problem at the same time maybe not?
has your phone been exposed to water at all recently? is your phone jailbroken? cant realy think of other reasons
the problem stops when the phone is plugged in. is there anything that can trick the phone to thinking it is on charge? I have wphtweaks installed but the options there are not able to stop it
Hi,
I can't remember if my phone has been wet :/ I take care, so my phone never received water. But when I'm outside, under the rain, it's possible.
Today it was better, just a few times my phone wakes up alone.
I'll give you feedback in the next days. Let me know about yours
I managed to trick my phone into silence a few times earlier but it was difficult and then only lasted 5-10 minutes.
if yours didnt get wet it seems unlikely to do with water but I left mine ontop of the aga after removing the battery and over a relativly cool part. A few hours later and it seems to be working fine now.
I will report back if the issue arises again.
EDIT: Ahhhh!! STOP THE RINGING!!! started again this morning
Mine too !
This morning ... the ringing awakening problem !!!!!
But it was better this afternoon.
Really I don't know what happens.
Are we only two persons in the xda world with this problem????
this is realy weird now! mine was doing it in the morning but since about 12pm - 1pm it has been fine! I feel like its something to do with an installed homebrew app maybe.
I also have a custom rom but mine was flashed a long time ago and much older than yours. not sure which version
EDIT (1:10pm GMT): no problems since yesterday
EDIT2 (1:30pm GMT): again i spoke too soon!
Did you guys get this problem sorted out? Had the same problem recently and tried all the suggestions in other threads (bend USB pin, Reset/Restore Device etc) but nothing fixed it, so after being woken at 3am by constant charging tone, took to T-Mobile shop. They said it was a software problem. I said I'd tried all that and the most likely cause I'd seen on the internet was a duff USB port.
Anyway, T-Mobile sent it off for repair and 7 days later - returned and fixed. The repair sheet said software upgrade, but the phone had been reset to bog standard Phone 7, so unlikely. The T-Mobile repair tracking site (excellent) which shows blow-by-blow trace of what and where, showed initial software upgrade/no fix but I used their "contact us" facility to suggest a USB problem and by magic the repair tracking log showed a replacement USB port.
BTW - had to resort to an iphone and HTC android while Omnia was off for repair. Now I know why I like Phone 7 and can't wait for 8. The iphone GUI is so last decade and Android GUI is really just a copy of Windows 6.5 with XDA developers' tweaks isn't it.
Hi Wuzzok,
what do you mean by "bend USB pin" ?
Anyway, it seems like it's finished for me. I didn't get tht strange bug (soft/hard bug???) for a very long time. I just hope it's really over !
Same problem
Hi Folks,
I have the same problem, too. Yesterday afternoon on my way home the phone started ringing with the USB plug sound and always started up itself from standby mode.
As I have a custom ROM (mi7ROM) I first thought it could be a problem with the ROM - although I could not really believe it since it was running stable for months now. I flashed it again and nothing changed - still ringing and starting up itself
I managed to get rid of the sound by deleting the entry in the registry key "Local Machine\Current User\ControlPanel\Sounds\BatteryCharging\Sound" but that does not solve the real problem.
After reading here and in some other WP7 blogs I am sure that this is a hardware problem with the USB plug unit. As my phone is just 11 months old I opened an online ticket at "SAMSUNG online repair service" who promise to answer in the next 24 hours. So I just have to wait and see...

Samsung sent me an offer to send the phone in for repair - but what should I say, the problem solved itself. For two days now the phone works normal again. So I had to cancel the service call .
mine hasnt done it in a long time either. looks like its just a temporary thing. I wonder what caused it! For me it started after I was using my phone in the rain and the usb slide was open so thats my suspect.
You may be right. Mine is "quiet" now, since a long time. Water may be the cause.
Update
Hi folks,
mine is mostly quiet again, too. Only few incidents "happen" but they do not last very long - only a few minutes. It's somehow spooky but I do not want to send it in to Samsung now when the error it not constantly reproducible.
I agree with you that there might be a correlation with humidity although I am sure that it did never get wet and I almost always keep the USB-shutter closed. Who knows ...
Sent it in
Finally I sent it in for repair today. It started ringing permananently two days ago...
Now I have to wait and see.
Final state
Okay, I received it back... and it works.
First they did nod find and could not reproduce the failure and wanted to send it back - only with a new flashed image - but fortunately the technician called me and I could describe the problem again. After waiting a few hours, the fault appeared again and they decided to change the mainboard.
I hope, that's all
Hello,
Me too it makes me after my omnia 7 is dropped in water, but problem solved.
Me too

Are you really sure that the problem is USB port.. Mine too behave like this. I've tried to remove battery, factory reseting, reflashing ROM. But nothing works. Mine is Samsung focus

Nexus 4 - No Service

Hi all,
I got a Nexus 4 from Ebay. Cellphone is in flawless condition, it probably has less than a couple of months of use. Unfortunately, I am not able to pick up a signal in any way. I just get a constant "No Service" message, and occasionally it will jump to "Emergency Calls Only".
Testing menu says Signal Strenght is 0 dBm 99 asu, no neighboring cells and location is unknown.
I've tried changing the prefered network to WCDMA only (as suggested in other threads), also tried with the other available settings with no luck. Tried playing around with the Change Bands setting as well but it makes no difference
Tried with a few different sim cards as well but that didn't work either, just got signal momentarily and but it would go on and off.
Cellphone came with 4.2.2 and I upgraded to 4.3 as requested by the system. Same issue.
Tried basebands 48 and 84.
Tried CM 10.2.
Replaced SIM card with a brand new one.
Cellphone doesn't appear to be blacklisted either.
Not sure what to do next. I'll try to get in contact with the seller but I don't expect much from him or eBay. Maybe I can sell off the device very cheap for spare parts, or send it for repair somewhere? Leave it as a dev device (which would virtually indistinguishable from a N5 that I plan to get anyway), Anyone else has any other suggestions or ideas?
Try to install a factory stock image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
If you pay with PayPal you get buyer protection so you can try to get your money back.
Could be a hardware or antenna issue.
To me it seems like its been blocked for certain reasons. Either it was reported stolen or the person who sold it to you didn't pay his/her bill for which the carrier blocked it. In that case you can't do much about it.
I would contact the seller right away. If you get no response contact paypal and eBay.

This problem is occurring for a lot of Nexus 4 users, including me. Its some sort of pandemic. Here’s what you can do to atleast restore service to your phone : flash the factory 4.3 image to your phone, again. However, try flashing a radio that is 54 or older with it. Make sure you wipe the cache and flash all the partitions, system, boot, bootloader and the old radio. This will bring back service to your phone (did for me), however you will be left with no in call audio and your phone wont connect to the internet through the mobile network, only wifi. After doing this, you will see your baseband and IMEI in the phone.
You can use this as some sort of “test” to verify if your phone really isn’t stolen. What is the ultimate resolution to this problem ? I really don’t know yet. I’ve been breaking my head over this for the past 4 days now. Maybe I’m going to try out the unbrick method mentioned over here to see if that helps.
As an update I am getting intermittent signal in some areas, but it's really spotty and only lasts a little while : (
I'll be giving different basebands a try tomorrow but I don't think it'll help much. I'll also try the full factory flash posted above.
Same problem here, had the phone for about 2-3 months, bought it off Kijiji, I tried flashing 4.2.2, went back to 4.3, flashed every baseband and still no success. The SIM works perfectly in another N4, tried a few other sim in mine and still the same results. Any other ways somebody got this fixed ?

I'm talking to the seller, see if the phone is still under warranty. My other options would be to change the antenna myself (see if it works), or resell it at loss for spare parts, or wait to see what eBay says.
Just to give you guys some hope, that this is not just a problem faced by second hand phones - My phone is bought directly from the Play store - I contacted Google service a few days back and they asked me to return the phone for a replacement. Only problem is I have to ship this back to the US (where I purchased from), since they dont provide replacement service outside the country of purchase. I'm in India now.
I've tried absolutely everything myself. Flashed many many radios, 4.3, 4.2.2, I'm only able to get it to the point where there is network coverage, I can make and receive calls but there is no in call audio, nor is there any mobile internet connectivity (Only through wifi).
Something tells me this is a problem with the latest OTA update that caused this issue - I was completely stock and everything was working properly, when this problem appeared one fine day - It started with me not able to connect to the mobile internet network for a few days, and then one fine morning, BAM. No service. It was only after this that I started flashing and re-installing stuff on my phone, desperately trying everything to get the phone back to normal again.
I think the last OTA update somehow "bricked" the radio (dont know if something like this is possible, just a noob guess). My only hope is the 4.4 update has some fix for this, else I'm going to try the unbrick method mentioned on these forums to see if that works. Only then will I take the pain to send this back to the US.
What's the unbrick method you are planning to follow?
I was considering using the unbrick method listed here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2347060
Although I'm not completely sure it will work. Do you or anyone else have any suggestions for this ? I'm hoping 4.4 gets released ASAP, I'll download and root that as quickly as I can, hopefully Google has some resolution to this stupid problem
i have exactly the same problem
i have exactly the same problem. i bought my phone at US from Google play.
the phone worked fine for two month and then i got - No Service, and its swipe in a sec to emergency call only.
i try to replaced some sim cards, and factory reset with no success.
i also read a bug report that opened in Google : 58317
they told that there is a problem with the radio interface and radio driver at the 4.3 update, and they will fix it in 4.4 kitkat version.
i hope that 4.4 will fix this terrible problem, if not the phone is totally a door blocker..
Did anyone ever find a solution for this issue?
My friend has this problem with his Nexus 4.
I've searched A LOT and to this day (half a year later) haven't been able to find someone who reports this problem was solved.
I've also tried every suggestion I could find: flashed every stock image available, tried every combination of stock/custom ROM/recovery/radio, even tried the unbrick method mentioned above.
Nothing helps. I always get the same symptoms:
- Radios 54 and below - no in call audio.
- Radios 83 and above - Baseband unknown, IMEI / IMEI SV unknown, no cellular reception.
Also, RMA is not an option because the people at the store (a) don't know how to fix it and (b) claim the warranty doesn't cover this issue so they won't replace the device.
Any suggestions? I'm willing to try anything...
Maybe its a simple hardware failure like a loosely connected antenna? It doesn't really seem to be connected to any specific software setup
Something that happens to me rarely: when I'm in an area with very low/no reception sometimes the phone won't reconnect itself again and just stay on no reception until I reboot. Only happens like one or two times a month though.

Thanks, but I really don't think it could be an antenna issue.
I can see how a malfunctioning antenna could cause cellular reception problems, but it shouldn't affect IMEI or Baseband version readings. Those things have nothing to do with the antenna.
Also, the fact that the symptoms change with different radio firmwares says there's a big chance this is a software issue after all.
I just can't figure out what the cause is and how to eliminate it.
Flash any full factory image. If the problem persists after you can be pretty sure it's hardware. No signal for most of the time and occasionally picking it up could be something as simple as the antenna being unplugged, which can sometimes happen after a drop, or a forgetful repair.

Could be a broken or badly connected antenna. They are very fragile. Have a look at how to replace the antenna maybe?

I've opened up lots of my old phones (not my nexus 4 yet) and its normally easy to find and change as it's separate from the motherboard and looks basically like a piece of plastic!

I have the same problem no connection but the phone recognize the sim and the number of the phone. I've tryed to return to stock using a factory firmware but I'm not able to fix the problem... (this morning is working fine and my phone never fell down or something like that)
If I open btw the case and try to remove and reinsert correctly the antenna the phone will recognize the signal?
