[Q] Factory Reset - A7 General

I know I'm probably going to facepalm, but I can't quite figure out how to factory reset on the A7-I'm finding that it just isn't quite what I was needing when I bought it, so I want to return it virgin to CompUSA. If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it.
TIA

*facepalm*
Who would have thought to look online at the user manual? Not I-until I did. I got it and sorry to clog the forum with garbage.

Hardly clogging the forums, but for anyone interested:
WARNING: This will wipe your device, this post is informational so proceed at your own risk.
Press power like you were turning on the device until the green lights come on
Release, then press (and hold?) power until you see "Hold Power for Recovery Mode" on the screen
Release, then press and hold power again until you see the recovery menu start to boot
It will reboot to an android with an exclamation point, this is the recovery menu
Then to navigate this screen, use HOME to display the menu text, Search = Up, Back = Down, Menu = enter.
If you're factory resetting, restore to default and clear cache.

that is correct
don't forget to format your sd card
You might want to clear your phone numbers too as those don't seem to delete after a wipe.

Soft reset button?

I noticed that the SPB panel has a soft reset button under "tools".
Is it possible to get that in the launcher rows for Sony Ericsson Panel 2?
I wonder where the link/program is located?
Or is there a program/.cab that can be downloaded?
Everytime I search "soft reset", I get so many irrelevant post/threads.
Thanks in advance!
I don't understand why would you need it. Turning the device off and on again will do the same. And if the device is locked and unresponsive, launcher icon wouldn't help you.

cause it's a pain in the ass to have to switch panels to the spb panel, just to reset the phone.
I understand, what the op is talking about, I was going to look into a solution.
I use phm soft reset. Simple app and it's free. I don't remember where I got the cab, but just google for it.
I agree with the OP. I just prefer to press a shortcut instead of waiting for the phone to turn off and turning it back on again and this way you can put it anywhere you'd like. I keep mine in the start menu, even though I have at least five other ways to do the same thing on my phone, this is the only reset that I use.
edit: Smaberg's actionscreen is great too as it has both soft reset and power off (along with a ton of other useful functions) in an easy to reach place, but I still use phm for plain old soft resets. Highly recommend taking a look at it though.

thanks jhoffa for the link!
thanks mrbkkt1+jhoffa for understanding!
Dr. Sid, I am asking for something like this not because I want to reset when the X1 stalls. It's when I'm using it on the move and I only want to really dedicate one hand to the unit.
People can say I'm lazy, but I'm looking for some convenience. Convenience, isn't that what we're all after when we bought a beautiful unit like X1?
I use also phm soft reset. Anyway, there's a reset button under the cover battery on the right, for me it's the easiest and fastest way
Use smaberg's power button add on. It's here in the forum.

lol, the battery cover is the last thing I want to deal with.
Some people say it falls off from use, but mine seems like a pain to remove and it's actually the most "least liked" physical part of the phone.
Thanks all for the tips, I actually have phm soft reset and smaberg's power button add on.
Smaberg's power button add on, makes it feel like a true SE machine
Yeah you just take the battery cover off take the stylus out and you should see a hole to the right of the battery in which you can press the stylus into and your phone will soft reset
The battery cover is the worst part of the X1. I'm almost breaking my nails trying to open it. I wonder why didn't they put the soft reset button somewhere outside the battery area.
@Hisatsu, I have that in my launcher.
What I did - go to Windows/Start Menu > Copy "Reset PPC" > Click Programs > Edit > Paste Shortcut > Go to launcher and add it in.

cool (less known) functions, hints and tricks?

Im playing around with my newly rooted hero all day long but i feel im missing a bit of the techie geeky part of the equation..
I learned that by holding down home and power button during start takes the phone to the recovery screen (if you have a rooted phone) and the back + powerbutton returns fastboot screen.
I dont want to f##k anything up by messing about with it without any prior knowledge, so i ask you guys.. are there any cool functions, easter eggs or similar that arent well known (like in the first 10 pages on this forum)?
for instance, a verbose boot would be awesome, especially if it was a button combo to activate..
are there any more boot combos other than the above mentioned ones?
Holding down home will show a pop up of running programs; useful to switch between programs.
When the screen is off, double press the menu button and this will bypass the lock screen.

that's not quite right. the programs shown are the most recent started programs, not necessary running programs (and of course mor programs are running in the background...). but it's really a handy feature.
i once managed to get to the android home screen that you get on phones like the Magic but i cant remember how i did it

You get that by manually deleting Rosie.apk from the system/app folder.
Or by deleting its cache.
Then when you hit Home it will ask for you to choose the HTC or Android Home. As long as you don't select the use as default option, it will continue to do this.

You can just press menu from the lockscreen, no matter what button you pressed to wake the phone.
In the new ROM there's no camera zoom function on the screen by default. It can be accessed by the menu...
But who wants to do that?
Just swipe your finger up the screen the zoom slider appears, then swipe where you like to adjust the zoom level.
(from the Modaco forums)
Eh ? What zoom function ?
Explain please

One additional thing I found: Holding down the power button for 1-2 seconds will get you a menu where you can choose between powering off the phone, silent mode, vibration mode, airplane mode and internet connection.
Holding down the 'back' button in the browser will get you to your recently visited pages aka history.

How else do you turn off the phone? I assumed everybody has to do this anyway.
With the new rom, you can touch the screen to focus that specific area. Okay everyone knows this. But do you know you don't have to click the trackball to take picture? Just tap and hold at the screen, it will focus on that area and then take picture.

[Q] Skip the initial setup

Hi there!
I'm new with Nook and I've read many times (also here on xda) that it's possible to use the Nook without registration.
How to do this?
I can not skip the initial setup...
Any suggestions?
Had to skip it aswell, found this on this site posted by crazy_jake. worked for me
1.Enter the Factory Screen by holding the TOP RIGHT Button and slide your finger across the top of the Nook from left to right. A button labeled "Factory" will appear in the top left of the screen.
2.Once in the Factory screen, hold down the TOP RIGHT Button and tap in the bottom right of the screen.
3.A new button will appear labeled "Skip Oobe". Tap that and you're done!
Many thanks for your answer!
I can not try your trick because after many days I've done the registration (is frustrating that you MUST have a wi-fi connection for it).
Thanks again!

you can go to the settings and reset your device. You'll have to re-download anything and re-enter info after though.

This serious improved my RAZR performance

My RAZR HD was getting slower and slower in response, which I found very annoying. I figured it was cause of me using alternative launchers and too many apps installed and I'd have to live with it. Or I thought it was only having 1 GB of RAM.
But I found the following tip and wiped the cache partition:
http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/66428
Wow. The phone is responding instantaneously. Wow. SERIOUS improvement in response.
I followed these instructions EXACTLY as they say, I have reproduced here:
1 Power the device off.
Note Press the Power button then select Power off.
Note If the device doesn't respond to input, press and hold the Volume Up / Down then press and hold Power button. When the device screen goes blank, release the Power button while continuing to hold Volume Up / Down then proceed with step 3.
2 Press and hold the Volume Up / Down then press the Power button.
3 When presented with the Boot Mode Selection Menu, release all buttons.
4 Press Volume Down to select Recovery then press Volume Up.
5 From the Droid triage screen:
Press and hold Volume down.
Press and release Volume up.
Release Volume down.
6 Select wipe cache partition then press the Power button.
Note Use Volume keys to navigate options.
7 Select reboot system now then press the Power button.
Note Use Volume keys to navigate options.
Thank-you! I had same exact problem. I just did it. Much better now...

I know, eh? Who would have thought?
It was getting embarasssing when you have friendly fights between an iPhone and you to find information faster and.... it would take 3 seconds for Google Search to even load...
Funny thing is... that sequence of pressing buttons to get to the Recovery menu selection is something I just cannot memorize.

Install this:

My Cache gets wiped at 5AM every morning. Works geat.
This defeats the point of a cache.

once a day may be a bit extreme, although it has been a known fact for some time, wiping the cache from time to time reduces lag and helps other minor issues.
Worked for me, thanks!
My own advice
Wow, just how exactly is it that this is NOT a Sticky? This is about the most useful piece of advice I´ve ever found about my Razr, it´s like a new phone all over again! And if you have a custom recovery, it´s even easier. I´ve got the Touch CWM 6.0.4.4 for XT925 and going into it if you have quickboot installed on your rooted phone is a one buton touch on your screen process, I´m very, very happy now, thanks!
Ok, now for my own piece of advice. One other measure which helped me tremendously as well was to clean everything from the original, base launcher. I made the mistake of leaving some extra pages and widgets on the original launcher after I had installed Holo HD launcher, and it wasn´t until now that I realized that those things left on the original launcher still loaded into the memory on the background, even if I wasn't using it or couldn't even access it for that matter! So, if you use Nova, Apex, Holo HD or any other Launcher, make sure you first delete ALL extra pages and leave just the one, Remove the clocks, folders, icons and specially any widgets that might have been on the desktop page, and pay special attention to remove the Circles Widget. You will see the difference! Thanks :good:
