Nand wifi problem.Help needed. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi.
I tried out the nand version of the android and, it seems that i can not connect to my wifi network.
It does not see my network, it is not listed in the available networks list.
Tried to change the router config, security options,WEP,WPA,WPA2, but still no luck.Tried to connect manually, still no connection.
Tried Cotulla s rom, the cyanogen rom, and the desire hd rom, still the same issue.
If i go back to winmo, wifi works great, android from sd card works great, so i really do not know what the issue is.
Anyone any ideas?
thank you.

Are you restricting access by MAC address, by any chance? At least on gauner's HD build, it's 00:11:22:33:44:55, so not your usual address.
If that's the problem, you can add that address to your router's list of allowed addresses, or perhaps edit /system/etc/calibration as described here.

Checked in the router settings and the MAC filtering is off, so this should not be the issue.
the mac address is what you said 00:11:22:33:44:55.
Any (other) idea?

Hmm... Regional differences in allowed wifi channels? Is your router set to use a channel above 11?
A bit of a long shot, this.

Yes it is 12 or 13 i do not know for sure, but why is it working in winmo and sd android?

Thank you for your help.
It is not working. But...
I flashed the NexusHD2 and it has some option in the advanced wifi menu, called REGULATORY DOMAIN and i can select how many channels to use. I selected 14 and it is working.
So it was like you said, something with the last channels.
Now working great, and the download speed is.... freackin fast. And 205 mb free storage.
So thank you.

Good to hear you got things working. Was actually looking for a similar option on the Desire HD build I'm running, but couldn't find it. If you ever decide to use a different build, you might want to check the Market - I'm sure there are a few apps out there that can make this sort of change.

Wifi for all nand version gives error (not turning on at all) whene trying to turn it on
wm and sd android version wifi work greate

Non working WiFi or Mobile Web on Cyanogen ROMS

I'm stumped. And agitated.
I'm stumpitated.
Every Cyanogen-based ROM i flash, I cannot get Wifi or mobile web to connect.
This is true of all current Froyo builds (all Cyanogen) and roms like Droid Does.
Weird thing is, I can get connected to wifi and ping local computer IPs. But I cant ping any websites or load them in the browser or apps.
I am flashed to MetroPCS. Haven't had any problem in ROMS like PlainJain, xtrROM, Evil Eris, etc.
Anyone have any troubleshooting steps or insight? Thanks in advance - I love this community!

Not that I'm aware of - how would I find out? Do the ROMS themselves not define the kernel?
Beyond that, why would it work in all other non-cyanogen based ROMs?

I said Wifi doesnt work for me, not for you. Thats the issue altogether - it seems isolated for some reason.
I tried KaosFroyo, CELB and the CM direct, as well as DroidDoes (TCP's new cyanogen based). Can't get Wifi or Mobile to work on any other them. ROM doesnt matter, it seems to be anything cyanogen based for me.
Grdlock, Ivan, xtrRom, xtrSense, EvilEris, etc have all worked for me completely though - non cyanogen based.

Its just such a weird thing, and I feel limited by it, and the fact that it seems to be so isolated is irritating.

Guys,
I know it works on other peoples phones. Not being rude, but I dont need a list of people who its working for. I'm asking for some help, some direction, some possible things to check.
Not to be off topic.. but can someone direct me to the CM direct ROM? I haven't seen that anywhere. Sorry if thats a stupid question lol
Its just the one with CM in the post title.

Try my flash for metro here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289
As always make a nandroid backup first.
Make sure you have booted your rom at least once successfully before applying my flash (it modifies the telephony.db that will not be present until after the first boot)
The problem you are running into is that in the build.prop the carrier info is still pointing to verizon, once i changed mine to cricket it worked, i assume changing it to metro would work for you as well.
I believe metro's proper MNC should be 310024 if you want to edit it manually, if i recall off the top of my head, anyways my flash should set that for you and get you squared away.
EDIT**
Actually sorry i mis read this, my flash will not assist with WIFI but it should get your mobile network to route through metro's proxy and get MMS working.
This sounds like a ROM issue if wifi is not working, or something hardware related.

Already running your flash, boss
Doesnt make a difference on these roms for me.
Works nice on xtrROM, though
Hmm, so to clairify if you use CELB 2.8, boot it, then flash my flash, then boot CELB then reboot CELB that you still do not get mobile web/mms?
Weird, almost sounds like your not getting DNS or something.
if you do an NSlookup on like www.google.com, then on the phone try to ping the number you got from nslookup, do the numbers match or what comes back?
I think that this flash won't work for some Froyo ROMs for whatever reason.
Either Autostart doesn't start up (did it ever ask you for SuperUser permissions, ever?)
Or
u2nl needs to be in a different place (worth investigation)
Or
Your proxy is set correctly, so wifi is trying to go through the proxy (which may not work), but something else isn't working correctly, so wifi is looking through the proxy, but something ELSE is wrong with mobile network.
Do a nand backup
then restore yourself to a 2.1 ROM and make sure it still works.
Is the first condition I listed at the top of this post, the case? Or did it ask you? 2.2 might have a superuser issue with Autostart. That'd make sense, since the Proxy might be working (which would be why your internet won't work when wifi is on), but your Mobile Network won't (which, of course it wouldn't, of Autostart wasn't starting up).

K, CELB 2.8 was the first Cyanogen rom to work, thats cool - but it didn't work with your flash. I had to do the manual input from the guide. I already had autostart.sh and u2nl in my root - does your flash overwrite them? still, even if it didnt, it should have set the right permissions, right? I wasnt until I input all the shell commands that I got mobile and app web.

This wouldnt explain while neither Wifi NOR mobile web doesnt work on either. I can't get either to work all all, and they both work on regular 2.1 OTA Roms (and now CELB 2.8)

Autostart asks for permissions, so I assume its starting i'll try again just to confirm. You mentioned the Proxy might be working which would cut the wifi - how do I get around that?

2.1 with sense and regulatory domain

First of all, sorry about my English. I hope I can describe my problem precisely.
On android 2.1 with Sense (official and custom roms) i can't find option "Regulatory domain" on advanced wifi settings. Maybe somebody know some tips about readd this option?

Menu, settings, wireless and networks, wifi settings, press menu button, choose advanced, select there.
Did you restore system data from another rom maybe? That can cause issues like this.
Yes, i did full wipe.
On VillainROM 12 i can't see regulatory domain on advanced wifi settings.
I have no idea what it does, but can also confirm I don't have an option, for "Regulatory thingy" on Villain12.
...
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
regulatory domain is where you can set which wifi channels the phone will search. in the us you are only alowed to use channel 1-11 while in europe you can use ch 1-13.
I really miss this option in VR 12 since channel 13 is the only one that is not crowded in my apartment.
uff i'm not alone Maybe smb know rom (2.1/sense) with this option?
VillainROM 12 -
ChocolateEclair 2.0 -
CronosDroid + (probably, info from changelog WiFi channels added +11 +12 +13)
FroydVillain has channel 1-14
Yes, but this rom based on froyo (without sense). On rom without sense i can't see this problem.
I have VillainROM 12 and don't see "Regulatory domain", but channel 13 works just fine. Maybe it depends on the radio version? I have 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26.
hm.. intresting. i have vr 12 with 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14 and i can't see channel 13.
I saw an interesting thing. When You change on Your AP the channel to less than 12, of course You can connect to wifi (hero must remember your ssid). Then if you change the channel on a larger You can see (on wifi manager from market) and you can connect to your network on 12,13,14 channel. Unfortunately it works only for the restart hero.
In my opinion it doesnt depend on the version of RADIO, because on ROM without sense everything works.

[Still not Fixed] PPP disconnection solution

well I think we have a fix for the data drops. I did this steps below that fordfanboi did and I have to say so far no data drops.
I don't know if it was the build.prop or combo of build.prop and apn but i did exactlly as he did execpt that i edited my build.prob from root explorer and I have not had any data drops. I just hope that it works for everybody else just as it did for fordfanboi , me and others here
You may not need to do all this steps for the data drops to stop but since I don't know exactly what solved the problem and I'm afraid to change anything now on my phone to find out because it works so good now , I listed all the steps I did to get it to work.
this are the steps we did:
1.a He used droid explorer to pull my /system/build.prop off onto my windows PC then edited it.
1.b I used root explorer and edited the file right from the phone. Just open the file with text editor right from your phone
Modify your build.prop file to have the correct DNS entries for your provider. I used the following for T-Mobile. I pulled the DNS entries from:
http://www.opengear.com/faq383-Configuring-3G-APNs.html#USA
net.ppp0.dns1=216.155.175.105
net.ppp0.dns2=216.155.175.106
net.dns1=216.155.175.105
net.dns2=216.155.175.106
net.dns3=8.8.4.4
After edit, I used a terminal app to set the /system filesystem to writeable.
su
mount -o remount rw /system
I copied the build.prop file to /system using droid explorer.
I hit airplane mode on then off.
Next, I edited my APN to use the APN listed on that same site.
APN: internet2.voicestream.com
Proxy: 216.155.175.105
MMS Proxy: 216.155.175.105
I also changed that ril wrapper from the other thread
At this point I restarted my phone
EDIT: well after 2 days working flawless I did have some data frezees today ( you know when that uploading arrow gets stuck) and i had to restart my phone. Just hope that the drops will be less then before but they are not gone
EDIT: The data dros are back. I don't know why it worked for 2 days after the fix but now is back to the way it was before. The data is almost unsuble
1) Did you try updating your ril wrapper? It may solve or at least make you be able to recover your data connection without restarting. (mobile data widget off-on)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794309
2) Also try settings wcdma preferred to gsm auto in that secret menu.
3) If you are using 2.15.50 radio, try downgrading back to 2.14.50 radio. (I thought your signature might be old)

1. Well as far as the ril wrapper I think I already have the latest one.
2. As far as settings in the secret menu I tried both gsm auto and wcdma preferred and still data drops.
3. As far as radio yes I did downgrade to 2.14.50 but still the same.

I've noticed the same problem as well and if you'll do the test I'm curious if it's working for you. Since I've been using Android on HD2 I've never been able to see a pass on those checks so maybe there's something to it.
Also if I remember correctly, there are/were some dns addresses hardcoded to the kernel, 8.8.8.8 or similar. Should we replace that? Could a DNS fail be the cause?
WARNING : EDIT YOUR POST TITLE WITH: [Q] PPP disconnection solution : or else u'r gonna be flamed by the mods...

it's a kernel problem on the PPP enabled builds.. nothing on the settings will fix it.. if you want a little (or more) stability, try the RMNET.. the only drawback with RMNET is the upload speed.. which again is a kernel issue..
also, on the ping test posted by the OP.. i don't think that the winmo failing the ping test on ip address and google site has anything to do with the data drop problems.. if it was the other way around, it would still be the same. the instability on the kernel's PPP is the issue.. probably the reason for the failure on the winmo rom is because the data service isn't ready yet when it sends the ping test to google and it's ip address or your winmo rom disconnects data when not in use and then reconnects when you start using it, while on android it doesn't sleep etc, that's why it passed..

Ril wrapper, gsm auto and the 2 concrete provider specific dns entries instead of placeholders in build.prop seem to fix the data drop issues completely. Using Froyostone 3.1 with hastarin 7.6 for a whole day without a single necessity to restart mobile internet.

Just did and its not that easy to find recent data about TMO. Im gonna try the Level 3 Free DNS service (4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1) I will report back with findings.

Last 2 entries in system/build.prop contain placeholder dns ip adresses. You have to google the dns ip adresses of your provider and replace these placeholders. You can edit build.prop using droid explorer on your pc. With this tool you copy build.prop to your pc, change it and copy it back to your device. After reboot and eventually restart mobile internet one time, your data drops will be completely gone.

Maybe this could be of any help:
OpenDNS free dns server list:
* 208.67.222.222
* 208.67.220.220
I also have the PPP drops, so I replaced the DNS servers in build.prop file myself with these DNS servers. Rebooted and its working.
I hope I can post back at the end of this day because only in that matter of time I can know for sure that the problem of the PPP dropping is solved with this trick
Oh, the 8.8.8.8 and the 8.8.4.4 server are just the Google DNS servers btw (for the people that didn't know that)
to get ur dns provider is easy enough.. boot android rmnet, open terminal and type this :

I think this just lists the dns settings from the build.prop file.

Do any of the tethering apps work yet?

I'm picking up my phone tomorrow. I was wondering if any of the tethering apps work with or without root on this phone yet. I know the more popular one requires a kernel with netiptables enabled. I'm not sure if the default kernel supports this or not.

I'm sure PDAnet works or you can just change the APN settings to use native hotspots without getting charged.
"native hotspots".... as in.... anywhere a 3G connection is available?

Like the built in tethering option and yeah pretty much anywhere you can get a data connection.
I got the Barnacle Wifi tether working without much challenge thanks to the Devs in the other threads. Could not install it from the AppBrain market but was able to follow the links to download the APK and install it from the internal sd card. Tried to get the widget to donate too,but could not do so from the market place.

Me either, this is my first Android phone. I did a search for wifi hotspot in the AppBrain market and it came up. My limited test with it was good. Used the APN setup from other threads and rooted the phone, also described elsewhere. Then downloaded the APK and installed it. A fairly straight forward process.
Problem with PDANet is the huge cost when I'd only really use the feature when traveling. How is barnacle wifi? Does it support encryption?
I am using a basic WEP key, not sure what you want out of the encryption. Better to check developers web site, I know there are some challenges but it is a little out of my league without spending a long time reading about it.
Well WEP/WPA/WPA2 type of encryption so someone doesn't steal my limited data. Does it support WPA/2 by the way? WEP is pretty easily cracked these days, but it is better than nothing at all.

Simply upgrade to GEN 2 and go for one of the best roms. Try each of these 3 for a week and then you will know which is the best for you. They are all great but each have different advantages.
The best roms are currently:-
Ginger stir fry
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204407
Elitemovils rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241421
CM7
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=blade
These are in no order of preference at all by the way!

Also CM7 is shaping up nicely but still not 100%

and yes these are all GEN2 but really you should upgrade!
See the forum for details on how...its easy!

And Orange have not updated to GEN2, AFAIK......
Also, for speed, less lag, you can overclock with No Frills ...you have it with SS. Also, set VM Heap to 32M, (think that may be done already in this ROM).
And I suggest also Launcher Pro from Market, if you get WiFi fixed!!!
For the WiFi, did you wipe/wipe/wipe before flashing with Swedish Spring?
Did WiFi work on original Stock ROM?.......is your PSK and Encryption is set up OK?
Use "show password" when connecting to your Network, from settings/Wireless & Networks/Tap Wi-Fi settings/Tap your network(ssid)/make sure your WEP or WPA password is correct.
Does it work OK with other devices?
Do you have MAC address filtering in Router, if so check Phone MAC, or disable in router.
Is DHCP set up in router. Is phone set to Static IP?

thanks but i updated to gingerstirfry which was much easier than i thought and wifi is working fine!
however not all of my music on storage is showing on the music player? i used a music app from the market but still the same problem
Ok good to hear you made the right move rom wise
Without knowing what audio app you are using it is hard to advise but almost all of the ones I have used need to be told where you have your mp3 files.
I make a folder and call it mp3 or music and then point the program to it and all is good. The standard player in gsf called "music" will pick up your files automatically I think.
Another suggestion:- Try Go launcher ex and also the dialer and sms apps from Go.
They are free and are as good as or even better than anything you pay for.
Go also offer a huge range of widgets and themes for everything also. I use go on my phone and also my tablet.
