Biggest problem is you could brick your device. The other is yes technically it does void your warranty but I have never heard of anyone being denied warranty exchanges on a root device.

It's always been my experience that bricks aren't likely. I've flashed quite a few things. Is it any more likely in this case?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

If you can read then you won't have problem rooting. Everything is writing in steps. Unless you are a retard then don't try .

Hahaha I think I'll be alright. Other than almost dd'ing a hard drive the wrong way once I'm pretty astute. I'll probably root next week.

Anyone have favorites on roms, while we're at it.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

Hey mate, if I can root anyone can, if u need help pm me. As roms go, u can't really go wrong. Iced and the DHD (desire hd) roms are much like what your running stock just with slightly improved graphics and other customizations. Miui is from another planet where android and ios had a baby, slick smooth and very dif from any other rom ive ever tried. I like it but its kinda like a plymouth prowler, kinda cool lookin but just not quick enough. Cm-6 is prolly the best and def the cleanest android experience. Ive had a couple issues with it but its still what im running.

Awesome reply srivers33 good info. I was leaning towards iced (seems pretty popular) I am looking for something more vanilla but def not a requirement. I might just flash a few and try them each for a little.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

Backups
Always make sure u do a true perm root and use rom manager and its clockwork mod recovery to back up the stock. That way if stock 2.3 releases before a good 2.3 rom releases you can just flash and update to 2.3!!!

Thanks dont think I read that in any posts, its a good idea. Definitely sounds easier to go back

You may have read that, but it is not true. There is a lot of effort involved in porting a user interface line Motrblur or Sense from one platform to another. In most cases the UI is not open source and without the source code it is very complicated and some times impossible.
ok thank you thats the type of advice i need.. cause just need to figure out the specs and if its even possible....
i just read all the specs on the motorola back flip and they are practically the same as the aria the just a slower processor ..... n the led flash..
like tpbklake just said... Motoblur sits on top of android and it is most likely not open source, and will be difficult (near impossible?) to port over. I'm no expert, but in any situation the specs really shouldn't matter. FYI (for your information) you can get a backflip on ebay for under $100 if youre that desperate to have motoblur.
Y do i have to be disperate.. just a reg guy tryin to add to the dev of the aria.. is everyone on the site out to disrespect people tryin to learn wat they no.. wtf thanks for ur input anyway dude

Now, THIS phone has nearly identical specs to the Aria. I'd try to find a ROM from this and go from there. If you're brave enough, flash it! But I'd recommend rooting your phone and having clockword mod installed with a working nandroid backup first.
http://boston-mania.blogspot.com/2010/10/cyanogenmod-6-android-221-for-boston.html
ok thanks for ur help i will try to flash some roms today and give a respond as to how it goes with the name and download links of whateva roms i try...
This is just my opinion, but if you have an Aria now, I wouldn't even bother with MotoBlur. The user integration is hands down rather horrible. Plus, like many said in here, integrating that into a rom for this phone would be a dev nightmare.
MotoBlur is a custom skin by Motorola, and the source is probably locked down! It would take a lot of time...

It is in the devolopment forum but here is the link. http://files.androidspin.com/downloa...5.1_signed.zip
And the reason you dont have the market with CM is you need to download and install Gapps.zip for all CM roms. They are not included.
Not really sure why everyone seems to swear by iced glacier on here (other than its been out Longest) but I personally enjoy the sense ROMs provided by evil and gorilla a lot. The look of true HTC sense is beautiful by itself, though there are a lot of ways to theme them to your own liking. Plus, you get your HTC widgets by default, as well as other awesome HTC services. Plus, if speed is your thing, both can be overclocked. Battery life is good in both.
Anyhow, that's my two cents. Everyone has theit own opinions on what ROMs are best, and that's mine.

I dont swear by Ice Glacier. It is a good rom, but the others you mentioned are very good also. It is really about what you like personally. That is the great thing about Android and a rooted phone. You can check them all out and then decide what you like. All of them can be themed and every one can be overclocked for speed. Including Ice Glacier.

[Q] To root or not to root

I'm not new to rooting, but since I'm on my 3rd mt4g in under a month (first one had a broken power button, second had dust under the screen, third one good soo far) I have been wondering weither I should root and flash a new rom or not, or just leave it stock if I have to warranty it again. And yes I know I can return to stock, it just seems like a hassle to keep doing it at the rate I have been going through bad ones. Thoughts?

I'm using royalginger 1.4.1 and it is great. Smooth and great battery life plus wifi calling works. Atleast I'm pretty sure it does lol. But if your someone who wants a larger group of themes and help I may go with cm7 both are gingerbread just cm7 is older and more broadly tested and themed. It all depends on what you want, gingerbread or sense. Also we (teamroyal) have a honeycomb Rom but its a pre alpha, no phone app and pretty sluggish but its great if you want to just play around for awhile.
Hope that helps

Just so you know UD/ROM has stolen alot of their stuff from Cyanogen(mod). Then they turn around around change some of the coding and make it their own.
That's why you will not see them on XDA.
Ahhh ya I felt as if it was very similar it is very fast though I wanna see a wp7 port to the mytouch

My problem is how they did it. They joined CM then wanted access to the codes and what not. Then they turned around and bad mouthed them on their own board, then stated their own leaving certain Cyanogen baked cookies in the ROM.... It's the whole point of what they did. I will not use their stuff nor recommend it to anyone.
yea. i read some of the stuff that was going on with it. very shady to say the least. in the end its a nice rom. dont really care about the drama end of any of it.
would of been a REALLY nice rom if they woulda just did the work together start to finish and continued together after words.
And any posts with links to any ultimate Droid roms will be deleted.
Ultimate Droid is banned from xda. If you want the story go to cyanogenmod.com and you can read all about it.
There may be a couple other roms out there on other pages.. but the ones here definitely get the most attention and the most fixes.

No insurance and $200 later, here I am, having to make a warranty claim because HTC screwed up while putting my phone back together.
Rooted. Took the plunge after owning my AT&T M7 for 45 days. Wanted to take advantage of 4.2.2 and I am glad I did.

Rooted but I staid on stock for a pretty long time until revone came along. I only used that to solve a bad kernel wakelock I was experiencing and knew was fixed in 4.2.2. I wanted to go to stock 4.2.2 but can't since now my device is s-off usage reporting to HTC is on and can't be turned off and that is causing bad battery drain too.
But I think all in all the One is so good out of the box there isn't really a big reason to root....
Rooted just cause I'm deeply in love with ARHD. LOL

Rooted & Stock.
It's nice to have a play & see all the lovely tweaks that are acheived with custom roms.
But I think stock has got that good on the One, that as far as day to day tasks & running go there isn't much between stock & custom. But it's sure nice to have a choice & I thanks all the great guys who do the custom roms :good:

AOSP didn't brick your phone. I'm pretty sure you didn't know what you where doing.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
There have been a few bricks on aosp and a few bricks with custom roms that I've read about, I believe that the problem is just random faults HTC, can't expect to have so much going on in a phone, mass produce it on a large scale and not have some phones shutting off permanently for unknown reasons. Sorry for ot. I rooted to see what my one is capable of, tried nearly every Rom but now I'm very content with a stock custom rom that allows me to modify and personalise everything that want
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I'm stock and unrooted but planning to root after warranty time/no OTAs I love rooting and flashing (got a HTC Desire before and changed it every week ) but always take the OTAs until HTC announce there are no further updates anymore.
I'm pretty satisfied with the One unrooted though. Maybe only (real) negative aspect so far is decreased battery life compared to rooted devices.

Rooted mostly because ARHD did it for me automatically. Greenify is really the only app I use that requires root.
Stock
Spent ages going through ARHD/CM/AOSP roms and all that craic only to end up on a stock rom on the Sensation and had much the better experience on Stock.
Haven't rooted the ONE as i just really don't think it needs it (for me) and so far, i have been proved correct.
Rooted.
Why? So I can clean up the crap I don't want that they schlep into /system, and for tether.
