Tutorial: How to flash International rom on Galaxy S3, GT-I9300_CHN_CHN (From CHINA)

If you are a proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300), but unfortunatly, your S3 was brought from china, maybe you have the versión GT-i9300_CHN_CHN.
This Version of Galaxy S3, has the bootloader blocked, then we can not flash international firmware in this model, because odin fail in modem.
In my first steps, i found a post with a firmware mixed a French files, and China Files in one Rom (thanks to XDA). But with ICS, ( 4.1.1). So because i like put he newest, i search around the net, and XDA, and i found some ways to do that.
This is the tutorial to do that.
STEP 1.
You Need to confirm, if really you have the Gt-i9300_CHN_CHN.
Put your Mobile on Download mode ( it show in chinese) and press Vol+, in the same way you do when you flash with Odin. (to enter Download Mode press: Vol-, Power; Home)
In the Screen Must appear PRODUCT NAME: GT-i9300_CHN_CHN, It´s means, you have a Chinese Version ( its International, But Chinese).
Another way its Pressing in your Phone *#1234# and its show your versión.
The latest version on china is:
GT-I9300 Galaxy S III
PDA: I9300ZCEMD2
CSC: I9300CHNEMD2
MODEM: I9300ZCELL1
Added: 2013-04-14
The Official Link from samfirmware:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/204467117/3bfe5c1/I9300ZCEMD2_I9300CHNEMD2_CHN.zip.html
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/204467117/3bfe5c1/I9300ZCEMD2_I9300CHNEMD2_CHN.zip.html
STEP 2.
Download the Latest CHINA FIRMWARE. and the firmware you prefer, I use the Spain (PHE)
The Official Link from Samfirmware:
Model: GT-I9300
Country: Spain
Version: Android 4.1.2
Changelist: 1287119
Build date: Thu, 27 Jun 2013 15:44:00 +0000
Product Code: PHE
PDA: I9300XXEMF6
CSC: I9300PHEEMF1
MODEM: I9300XXEMF6
Here is the Official Link from samfirmware:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/233642717/ff467e6/I9300XXEMF6_I9300PHEEMF1_PHE.zip.html
STEP 3.
Once you have both firmwares ( china and your preferred firmware), you need to change the extensión of both files, you need to unrar your files, then you have something like this:
CHINESE FIRMWARE:
KIES_HOME_I9300ZCEMD2_I9300CHNEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
SPAIN FIRMWARE:
I9300XXEMF6_I9300PHEEMF1_I9300XXEMF6_HOME.tar.md5
You need to delete the extensión .md5, it must have only .tar, just rename in Windows.
Then the both files we use are:
KIES_HOME_I9300ZCEMD2_I9300CHNEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship.tar
I9300XXEMF6_I9300PHEEMF1_I9300XXEMF6_HOME.tar
STEP 4.
Once you renamed both files, you need to unpacking.
To unpack your firmwares, you can use WINRAR, or another software who can work with tar files.
Or you can Use TOTAL COMMANDER, ( i prefer Total Commander)
https://mega.co.nz/#!WcUW3AbK!Y7yAFEL2nd_rApcW-DEliBCIokFG1em--FH28t5ifWY
STEP 5.
Once you have both firmwares unpacked, ( in diferent folders), you have to use some files from CHINA, and some files from Spain
In Both Folders we have these files:
Boot.img
Cache.img
Hidden.img
Modem.bin
Recovery.img
Sboot.bin
System.img
Tz.img
STEP 6.
From the China Firmware, I used these Files:
Sboot.bin
Tz.img
Modem.bin
From the Spain firmware, I used the rest of the files:
Boot.img
Cache.img
Hidden.img
Recovery.img (recovery can be omitted if you have a custom recovery and you don't want lose it)
System.img
We need put these files together,, if you have some software to pack files in Tar, Use it! ( with winrar you can only unpack, but you cannot repack)
In this step, i still Using Total Commander.
With total commander, you must put your files in the same folder, and click on PACK FILES.
The file resultant, is a tar file, ( you can rename the file as you want)
This file is flasheable by ODin, put in PDA just like another firmware. And flash it as the same way you know.
Remember: this is important: before you flash, you must do Factory reset, and format cache partition, in order to have a clean installation. ( many people dont do that, and after time, the mobile seems to have bugs, it is because need factory reset, and cache partition, so, DO IT!)
Once ODIN finish to flash, you must have a Galaxy S3 CHN, with Nordic Countries firmware, but with modem, and bootloader chinese.
There is Another Way to pack and unpack tar files, if you use Linux, search XDA for this, or you can use CYGWIN, wich is a Linux Console for Windows. ( search in XDA too)
With CYGWIN you can unpack and pack in tar and generate md5 checksum firmwares.
You Can change your firmware in other way too.
First you need to flash the CHINA firmware as it comes, without modifications.
Next you only need to open the Nordic Countries Firmware, with total commander, and delete, modem.bin, tz.img, sboot.bin, the rest of files still in rom. You can delete recovery too, if you have a custom one. (don’t forget backup the original file)
Then, Flash this rom without modem, via ODIN, in PDA, y that is all!.
Next you need to do Factory reset and Format Cache partition.
Note: CAUTION!, Backup your EFS folder, just in case.
Note 2: i don't test newest firmware, because the newest firmware from spain or Nordic Countries, are incompatible with the Structure and partitions in these firmwares, so, if you want use the newest firmware, try the new CHN firmware, and some firmware near to the build date of the China firmware.
If you mix incompatible firmwares, you will lost your IME.. DON'T BE AFRAID, YOU DON'T LOSS IT, IT IS JUST THERE, IN A DIFFERENT PARTITION.
In that case, return your old CHN firmware, and you will recover your IMEI, ( I do it twice)
I EDIT THIS POST TO CHANGE THE LINKS, SO ALL THE LINKS ARE THE GOOD ONE USING SPAIN XXEMF6.
THIS WORKS FINE, TESTED BY ME,
Enjoy

Nice job Cpaez. Now if only someone would figure this out (or if they have, share it with the rest of us) for the i9308, then all us China users would be set. i9308 is still SOL unfortunately.
is there any way to unpack the system.img , edit the files and pack it back into the .md5 file and then flash it with odin?

Maybe I can make a firmware for the users of i9308, Just let me know wich is your firmware, or compatible ( China), and what you prefer to have,(international or european), and i will make one for you. I cannot be able to test it, but, you can test it, and share your experience, you always can return to original firmware.
Does this also work for the GT-i9300_CHN_CU firmware?

Check this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081239
And This One:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294909
First you need to unpack the rom, Modify the system.img, and repack the rom again, you can flash it without .md5 cheksum, just flash the tar file.
If you want the md5 checksum, you need to type this in Linux console:
$md5sum -t filename.tar >> filename.tar
$mv filename.tar filename.md5
If you dont have Linux, you can use CYGWIN, this is a Linux console for Windows.

probably, you can test it, i am uploading the file in Mega, i will share the file, you can test it, if doesnt work, you must flash again, your original rom.
Hi, i am new in this forum, so i hope i can use it in the right way.
First of all, thank you very much for this tuturial... very clear.
The model of my cellphone is GT-9300_CHN_CU, its safe to use this method? Before i flash any rom on my cellphone using Odine i want to backup efs folder and the current rom, so my question is, can i root my device with CWM using odin, this procedure wil not mess the bootloader?
Best regards
Odin with multiple files
Hi, i downloaded the official rom to my device (FACTORY_I9300ZNEMD2_I9300CHUEMD2_CHU), but i this file contains 4 files... BOOTLOADER_I9300ZNEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship.tar, CODE_I9300ZNEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship.tar, CSC_CHU_I9300CHUEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship.tar and MODEM_I9300ZNEMA1_862886_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.

Its, safe, you can do this with any firmware, many people change the modem.bin, to increase performance in signal, wifi, etc ( in our case we cannot do that).
There are many apks to backup your EFS, The most simple is with "Galaxy S unlock"need to be root in any case.
I root with Philz Touch and it works fine. You need to flash philz_touch_5.06.1-i9300.tar.md5 via Odin ( in PDA), restart in recovery mode, select install zip from sd card, and select Root_SuperSU.0.98-Busybox.1.20.2-signed restart your phone, and backup EFS folder.
Caution!, Root, and the rom you make with this tutorial, avoid your guarantee, because it is a custom rom, and increase the flash counter ( Red Exclamation Sign in the upper left of the screen during the boot)
You CANNOT, use triangle away, to clear the flash counter, because the bootloader is blocked.
Good Luck

I have a Problem flashing this Rom, I don Know was becaumy se the rom, or because HC-KTOOL, when i install this rom, i lost My IMEI, so, i think this rom is not compatible with the Chinese versión.
Backups your EFS folder, if you have trouble with this.
I will try later to do again, i recover my imei and my phone is working again. So BE CAREFUL AN DO IT UNDER YOUR OWN RISK.

I can't use triangle away!! so on the next year i can't increment the counter... there is one way to do that, with framaroot, right?
I think odin mobile is much safe than odin because it doesn't flash the boot and efs for our safe, so we don't need to care about mess efs folder and loose that important information.
And when the warranty finishes i can replace the bootloader for the international model?

Hi, i downloaded the firmware in two different places, one with "KIES_HOME_I9300ZNEMD2_I9300CHUEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5". And another in SamMobile.com witch contains "BOOTLOADER_I9300ZNEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship .tar, CODE_I9300ZNEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship.tar, CSC_CHU_I9300CHUEMD2_1133994_REV00_user_low_ship.t ar".
I extracted all the files and the files are the same and with the same size with one exception, the firmware i downloaded on SamMoibile.com have one more file than the other... this files is param.bin, this file is important or i can ignore it?
Thanks

Hi Cpaez, I was just about to try your method of combining a China Unicom ROM (in my case I9300ZNEMB2_I9300CHUEMB2_CHU, don't know why it's not _CHN, but that was what the phone came with) with the Nordic countries ROM (I9300XXEMG4_I9300NEEEMG2_NEE)
Now I got cautious, so before I proceed:
- It will always increase the flash counter if I combine firmwares like you describe?
- In that case might as well root (was hoping not to)
- There is no way of resetting the flash counter on Chinese firmware phones?
- Which firmware did you flash to get your IMEI back?
- Is the conclusion that you cannot marry the China Unicom firmware with the Nordic countries firmware?
- If so, is there another international firmware where it works?
Thanks

Hi Cpaez, I think your NEE firmware may simply have been too new:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2377731
Apparently the firmwares from July onwards changes the EFS folder format, and I would guess that the problem arises because we are mixing the versions. I will try with a firmware from the same month/series (Bx) as my China Unicom.

Always increase the flash counter, i dont know how the phone knows is custom rom, even if the rom is made with oficial firmware.
To reset flash counter, you need root, you can root your phone, but, as i read in this fórum, theres no way to reset the flash counter, in this model, because of the restriction of the bootloader blocked. ( it need to Access the Bootloader, and it is dangerous)
I never tried to reset the flash counter, I don't care about that. so in my experience, i can't tell you exactly if really you can or cannot do it.
YES, You can Marry China Unicom with Nordic Countries, just not with the versión i metioned up.
My first rom was
I9300XXEMD3_I9300NEEEME1_NEE ( Nordic Countries) plus I9300ZCEMD2_I9300CHNEMD2_CHN( China), It WORKS great!
My Second Rom was
I9300XXEMF6_I9300PHEEMF1_PHE ( Spain) plus I9300ZCEMD2_I9300CHNEMD2_CHN( China), It WORKS great too!!
My third Rom was
I9300XXEMG4_I9300NEEEMG2_NEE ( Nordic Countries) plus I9300ZCEMD2_I9300CHNEMD2_CHN( China), It Mess My IMEI
When i lost my IMEI, y was in Panic!!! Obviously.! so i try to recovery with HC-Ktool, "unlock Samsung S", and nothing, I Use too EFS pro, And nothing, I was so worried, I delete EFS Folder, I Modify with Root Explorer, and Nothing, Even I format the EFS partition with "EFS Pro" ( don't do it if you don't have a backup of your EFS Folder).
I read in other post somebody, carried his phone, to Service, and they put a old rom, and he recovered his IMEI.
So i Flash the last Custom Rom who Works: I9300XXEMF6 and Works again, I recovered my IMEI.
I don't like have doubts, so, I flash Again, I9300XXEMG4, but, only flash the files boot.img, cache.img, system.img, hidden.img, without the china modem ( because the modem is right now in the phone). I LOST MY IMEI AGAIN!.
I just flash: I9300XXEMF6 and i recovered my IMEI.
In conclusión, i think, the newest roms, has diferent structure in the EFS partition, maybe It don't loss the IMEI, only the rom can't see it.
I will try to do with the lastest Spain Rom, if this Works, i will tell you.

EXACTLY!!!
I noticed after i had the problem! LOL!!
We have to wait a new China Unicom Firmware, to mix New One.
I comment to You... the last that works is:
I9300XXEMF6_I9300PHEEMF1_PHE + I9300ZCEMD2_I9300CHNEMD2_CHN
Thank you so much for you information, i will not try any more latest roms, until a newest china unicom.

Hi,
i was doing the kitkat SD card fix but i think i messed up my platform.xml file and now i cant connect to anything.
i cant connect bluetooth to transfer original file, wifi doesnt work, 3g not working, every app p keeps crashing.
i connect it to my PC and it doesnt show the files. just blank folder not even normal download/picture files.
plz help asap
Restore your backup. And fixed that quickly.
If you don't have a backup, that is a bad habit that you ought to change immediately. One good reason is staring you in the face.. the ability to revert changes or recover from unexpected problems.
In the alternative and presuming that you also neglected to save an original copy of the platform.xml file.. you can extract the original platform.xml from the full, stock firmware image. And use that to fix your issue. You can write the file to your handset using the command line or via an ADB shell. Or you could start over if you have other reasons for wanting to do that i.e. write a full stock firmware image with Odin. But replacing one file would make more sense in most situations.

No. I own the 900T model and would need to extract the 900F file from the stock firmware image. And you can do that as easily as I could. Just download the firmware image and use winrar to extract the file for you. Easy peasy.

Did you flash Marshmallow CSC? That is why
No, I flashed everything from the package I downloaded with samfirm. Ap, Cp, home_csc and Bl. And as I said I came from a clean installed nougat (the btu release from Dec the 30th).
Any other ideas?
I got the same problem. Tried to flash again did not help. Tried to wipe cache partition still the same.
Any ideas?
Try editing the csc in system manually to the correct one. Use the app phone info and check if original csc matches with installed csc. In my case there was no csc installed at all.
Did you ever resolve this issue? i have the same problem here
Read my last post
Yes but i had wipe all my data and start from scratch. There should be a way to do it but i could figure out. Good luck

As i said, it is caused by a missing csc. You have to copy the correct csc to the appropriate system folder manually and everything will be in order.

Ok, first step is to locate your "sales_code.dat" file in the directory "system/csc" with a root explorer.
Change the access rights of the file to read and write for all user groups.
Now you have to edit this file with a text editor. If your root explorer has an editor included you can do it right away. TED Text editor for axample cant access root directories so you have to copy the "sales_csc.dat" to you internal memory, edit it and copy it back to "system/csc" by replacing the old file.
This file shall only contain your country code. In my case the file was empty, so there was no CSC chosen at all, which will mess up your settings menu.
So, just type in your desired country code (for example BTU for United Kingdom).
The second step is to copy the csc files for your country code to the correct directory, just follow this pretty nice tutorial here:
https://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31670
Now just reboot your phone and everything should be in order.

Almost there. It is now showing me the correct "Firmware CSC" and "Active CSC" but "original CSC" is still blank and so is "Available CSC".
This is from the "Phone INFO" app.
The settings menu is now showing me the correct options, which is good..
O well thanks this far.. I'll see if I can get the last bits working too..
I have a similar problem now but i cant solve it. I once flashed the BTU Firmware with repartition. My original CSC is DBT so it installed the DBT CSC. Then i Updated it and had to manually change csc again to DBT so the settings were correct. Now i want wo update again and it does not install any CSC, not even with Odin. If i extract the sec_csc.zip from the home_csc file and try to flash it via recovery it just doesnt copy any files.
Does anyone have a solution?
Phone info shows me original CSC is DBT but the field active CSC is blank. i copied the files manually to the system folder but it still doesnt activate any CSC.
I had this too, and it was because i didnt installed csc. Maybe its your issue, too?
i tried to install the correct csc in multiple ways but it wont install and activate correctly. i tried via odin, tried to flash the extracted sec_csc.zip, treid to flash the non home csc. nothing worked. not even doing the repartition.

Is there a way to update baseband but keep root?

Hi,
I rooted my S8 (SM-G950U1, carrier unlocked) recently using SamPWND method.
By doing so my phone's baseband version was changed from the original G950U1UEU1AQH3 to G950USQU1AQDE from SamPWND.
Is there a way to flash the original baseband somehow? I have the original firmware files I downloaded from SamMobile.com
The other baseband version seems to be compatible with my phone since I can make calls and receive messages.
Should I even bother restoring the original baseband firmware?
I flashed the original CSC G950U1UEU1AQH3_G950U1OYM1AQH3_XAA using Comsey Odin (the original Odin was throwing "FAIL! Model dismatch fail" error).
That didn't update the baseband back to stock version though.
I can probably use something like "Partitions backup" app from Google store to restore a partition, but I don't know which partition that is and where to get the original baseband partition image for G950U1UEU1AQH3.
Thank you!

I used the Sampwnd method. The first time I flashed with stock. I then did the samPWND. I didn't have any issues doing it in this order.
I saved the samPWND files and somehow went back in to get them and half somehow was deleted. If there is anyway to send me a link via drive or anything like that it would ve greatly appreciated.
Hello,
I used files from this youtube video to root my S8.
Please check the description for that video for the links.

This will not work on modern bootloaders. Sampwnd is for version one only. See the PartCyborgRom thread for a modern (and mucb simpler) method, no stock necessary
Just flash CP in Odin, that's what I used to do in the BLV1 version so I'm sure it works the same

Thank you, guys!
I think I am good for now, the phone is rooted, working perfectly and I am not planning to update it any time soon, unless somebody finds a way to remove the charging to 80% restriction in this engineering kernel

batterystats-checkin.bin

I have accidentally deleted the batterystats-checkin.bin. I have tried to flash stock firmware , but it seems flashing stock firmware was not able to restore the file. can anyone share the batterystats-checkin.bin file .it is located at the root folder of /data/system.
