Sony PC Companion is going slow HELP?!?!?! Android 1.6 to 2.1 update (Xperia X8) - XPERIA X8 General

Hi,
I bought my new Sony Xperia X8 today to find out that it was running Android 1.6
So i went onto PC Companion and found a new update was available (Android 2.1)
So I went and ran it...after a hour it is still on the preparation process.
Why is it going so slow?
Thanks,
Chris

Because the Firmware needs to be downloaded. If you have a very slow internet connection it will take longer to download...

You can use SEUS
Or better root 1.6 and download the rooted 2.1 rom from lastest rooted and unrooted rom thread, will save you from downgrading for rooting..
And from next time post such threads in general section

Sooooooo....

Hey Guys, Just thought I'd share my Galaxy S story with you, if that's cool.
It's been 4 months since I got my Samsung Galaxy S and after a week of owning it I flashed it using Odin to I9000XWJM2 (2.1) and everything was fine (well actually my phone would always crash and it got very annoying, but it was still useable as a device) but I was still prepared to wait until the official Vodafone Froyo update arrived. So the big day arrived! I found out that Vodafone had released 2.2 though kies. My first problem was that I have a Mac and kies is a Windows only program (I used my friends windows pc to flash the phone the first time round, because Odin is Windows only too) so I contacted Samsung and they said take it into a Vodafone store and they'll sort it. I thought "great" and I took it in and they tried to update it. Only problem was they said it wouldn't work because I had flashed it and kies wouldn't recognise my phone so he basically told me to flash Froyo on the phone the same way I flashed I9000XWJM2 onto it previously.
So now I'm going to flash I9000XFJP7 onto my phone, just wondering if this firmware is any good and will it be the same or even better than the Froyo update that Vodafone have sent out? Is it also stable and does it improve the GPS?
Thanks for any help anyone can give.
Mav.
P.S. Just tonight my Marketplace has updated, and now I can update all applications at one with the update all button at the bottom, and I now have the related tab feature. I thought this was only for 2.2 phones, I'm only on 2.1.
Anyone?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S I9000
Flash the newest rom mate, it is XXJPU.
It's fast, unbranded and fast lol
and 2.2.1!
Cheers mate.

Maybe the update hasn't arrived yet in your country. There are many others who are still running 1.6 in their X8s.
Or...
You can root and install latest stock firmware which you can download from the X8 android development section, but why stay in 2.1 when can go to 2.2 or 2.3 ?

I reuploaded to a better site
Been using this for a little over 12 hours and despite the new enhancements and slightly faster running speed, I've had nothing but problems with:
- Touchscreen response is all over the place
- Had to uninstall Swype as touchscreen was making things up as it went
- Connectivity with wifi is patchy, connectivity with mobile data is questionable at best
- Sync issues related to connectivity
- Battery drain is significantly higher.
Is this an official Neo FW or something that's been compiled from the Arc release? If so, might be best to wait until the Neo FW is released properly. The update works beautifully on the Arc, but on the Neo (I have both handsets) I'm flashing back to rooted 2.3.2 and applying 2.3.3 OTA to await the new OTA build.
I recommend flashing via Wotanclient. Then unlock bootloader.
Thanks to Bi4ary, rooting newest Xperia firmware(4.0.A...) is very simple and safe.
First you need RootXperia.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130639 Put it on your SDcard.
Then fastboot recoveryNeo.img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183465
In recovery install RootXperia.zip
Now if you want to relock bootloader, then get this ftf, made by Blagus from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134335
Remember to thank our fine developers for such great tools!
(I hope that RootXperia.zip stays maintained by Bi4ary)

This worked for me 100% as posted in the other thread. No issues here. Just a faster phone,
No issues whatsoever with the hk-firmware. The only thing i've noticed is that the camera sound can not be disabled (not even in third party apps), but I suppose thats only because of the rules and laws in HK that does not allow silent cameraphones. It's however easily fixed when rooted by switching the sound files in the systems media folder.
Hello,
I have a MT15a, would that work on it or is it ONLY for MT15i?
Thanks!

It means that person had a problem with their touchscreen. It is not related to the update, it was just an individual error.
You can update without any problems using PC Companion or Sony Ericsson Update Service (recommended).

[Q] Rogers Official Gingerbread Update Help

Sooooo, like alot of people here that either couldn't wait or didn't think we were getting the update, I flashed my x10a with a generic firmware(now an x10i). I believe my original region code was 1233-6929. My question is, how would I go about putting the official firmware back on? I've searched and can't seem to find out how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
According to this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186045
1233-6929 has been updated to 2.3. There is no need to go back to 2.1.
Did you not make a backup of the 2.1 ROM with xrecovery before you flashed 2.3?
Why do I get that feeling that I'm going to kick myself in the butt for not doing that? Anyway, I should have added the fact that I am currently on a generic gingerbread firmware but would like to know how to put the official update on my phone?
No, no you're fine unless you absolutely need to go back to Eclair.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733
Flash the 2.3 firmware for X10a with the flashtool. I've got to tell you, all the 2.3 upgrade has the same build number (3.0.1.G.0.75) and the firmware you are currently on is no different, except what the "model number" says on phone's property.
You can try updating the firmware through SEUS or PC Companion, but there will be no difference.....
Alright, thanks for the info. Looks like the owner of the thread you linked here doesn't have all the x10a kits added yet (which I'm assuming includes the Rogers one I mentioned) so I may have to wait for a bit before it's available for download so that I can use it with flashtool? The only reason why I want to go with the official update is because I've had a few glitches with the generic one I currently have. Every once in a while I get some error messages pop up on the screen, one that I can recall is "failed to create media transport" and some other ones. Plus if I ever plan on selling the phone, it probably would be best if it had the official update on it (just itching to get the galaxy s2).

[4.4.4][update][23.0.1.A.4.44] for Tablet Z2 series start rolling out today

Well, new update for Tablet Z2. According to this:http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/12/0...a-3-12-and-z2-tablet-23-0-1-a-4-44-in-taiwan/
yet another firmware update for tablet Z2 is rolling out right now. Newest buildnumber is 23.0.1.A.4.44. Previous was 23.0.1.A.4.30.
Seems that so far Taiwan region and also branded HK, SA, AE, KW are updated. Haven´t seeing any chance log.
Is this going to pose a threat to our root?
I am guessing towel root will not work because of the exploits being patched up in 4.4.4
Very good question....
Got my notification to update via PC a little while ago. Will see if I can trap it first
Suppose I will test the waters. Almost for sure root will be gone.
Most likely towelroot or any other roottool's based on that will not work. However flashing vulnerable kernel from 314 firmware, rooting it and flashing new firmware kernel back might work.
I'll check my tablet when I get home, I've gotten the notification for my z2 phone now.
Unable to update
Unable to install it,
updating via PC Companion, downloading update, but when tablet reboots i get the message from Companion that there is no update available.
I'm probably not the only one with that problem..

I got the same thing happening to my tablet :/
Downloads, starts to update then just turns of the tablet and it fails.
Same here... update fails.

I used this guide to intercept the download from PC Companion and create an FTF file.
I have no clue if it's a valid file, but here's the link (I have an SGP511):
<link removed>
Well that's nice. PC Companion says there's a new version, but it just downloads the old one
So I download firmware that Sony PC Companion offers as new .167 firmware and found out it is old .314 firmware . Have to wait.

I just edited my post and removed the link, since PC Companion says there's a new version available but it just downloads the old one
Update is working now. Installing... FALS ALARM !
EDIT: FFS ! It only reinstalled the old 4.4.2 !
There's some problems with Sony Server, wait for few hours...
Update is working now. Just finished the upgrade.
Can't root
Updated (Firmware 23.0.1.A.0.167).
Can't root via easyroottool V12.3 or towelroot v3.
I read rooting works if you flash the old .314 kernel first, then root, then flash back the .167 kernel. Didn't try it myself yet though.
Uploading a FTF for SGP511 now! Stay tuned!
Update is working right now. Everything's working fine!
