Help! My Locations app has disappeared! - Desire HD General

Hi guys,
I just recently bought a HTC Desire HD and have been enjoying it very much.... I have rooted and S-off, but have yet to install recovery clockwork ....
That aside, yesterday I started moving some stock app files to a folder on the sd card (so I can remove it from my phone, plus back it up just in case) with root explorer (r/w mounted), I didn't move the HtcLocationService.apk. All went ok...
But just this morning I noticed my locations icon on my phone's interface has turned into the green android image...meaning the program is gone! It cannot be found in my programs at all.
I have tried to do the "reinstall locations" in the settings, but it says "unable to find an activity to handle this action", and I've tried to go straight to the HtcLocationService.apk to install it (not even sure if it is the right application) and it says "application not installed".
I am really stumped, and would like Locations back on my DHD!!
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance

What stock apps did you uninstall? Some apps are bound to eachother. Locations is probably bound to navigation or footprints or maybe another app. So if you uninstalled that, that could be the cause.
If it's really gone, then probably the only way to reinstall it is installing the stock ROM again (or a custom one). You probably can't install it again because locations needs some other stock app (if my hypothesis are right).

I took out stuff like friendstream, Plurk, Twitter, FieldTest, Flickr, HTC_IME, EasyCard, Laputa, KKBOX, plus phone provider apps (since I'm with TaiwanMobile, myfone) so TWM_City/Market/Movie/Music etc....
I've since moved the files back into system>apps, but it hasn't changed anything....is there any possibility I could get Locations back???

I can't think of an idea to reinstall Locations that easy. You can just install the official ROM again. You don't even have to be rooted then.
Have a look at this thread. If you deleted .apk files of the 2 lowest lists, then you could try to reinstall them first. Otherwise I don't know. maybe someone else.
I would have reinstalled the official ROM again. Just to make sure everything works correctly again. (and then start over removing apps :') ).
But maybe someone else knows a better solution

Thanks for you quick reply!
Can you point me to a thread that would explain the process of installing an official rom (where i would download the rom, etc)? Plus is there a way I can back up all my games, apps and settings, so I don't have to reinstall every app and game again?
would a Factory reset help? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm hoping I get this resolved

First of all: I found this thead for installing system .apk's. Maybe that can help. But it seems pretty comlicated .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
A factory reset should restore everything, (ofcourse I was tthinking to complicated :') ).
All apps you installed from the market will be reinstalled if you login with you google account again. It can take a while. It also remembers wich apps you bought. It won't however save any data (like saves for games).
For other apps (and all apps if you want to backup the data), you could download titanium backup (also available in the market). Keep in mind though that for restoring any backups made with this app, you need root acces again.
The facotry reset will remove your personal data. Only your sdcard and simcard will keep their info.
I hope all is clear what I told . So no ROM download needed. :')
Let us know if it has worked

Hey again,
I just factory reset my phone, using settings. Locations has not been restored , also some gadgets was not working (may be the widgets I have removed before). The front page weather animation is gone! Only the time left...(how would I get that back?)
Any other suggestions will be appreciated!

go to locations in settings... u will find a tab "reinstall locaton" make sure u r on wifi...and it will install it back...it happnd with me and got it back instantly

Can't write to internal memory/uninstall anything

Hi all!
Quite the n00b at this forum, so bare with me. I've tried to search for a solution to my problem, but haven't been able to find any.
My problem started with me having several app crashes, even those native to the phone like the Market app. I guess it happened after I installed several apps, and also a couple of launchers (ADW and LauncherPro). I decided to uninstall several apps to see if I could get the system running without any more apps crashing when using them. What happened though was that the apps I uninstalled just appeared again after doing a reset of the phone... I've tried it several times, and can't seem to get rid of neither the apps nor the launchers.
After this I thought doing a hard reset might solve the issue, but no go. I got an errormsg in the reset, and when the phone started again, all of my data (contacts, sms and such) was deleted, but most apps, and those launchers, was still there.
Would have posted a picture of it, but since I'm "new", I'm not allowed. The msg was:
multicsc : can not acces to /system/csc/XEE/system/
I don't know if the error is related to the uninstalling problem at all though..
What to do?
Have you tried all ways of uninstalling?
Market/ File Manager/ Managing Applications / Edit Menu?
If not sounds like a factory reset may be in order :/ Or even worse you have to format your SD card as a lot of app data gets saved onto it.
I've tried the factory reset as I also wrote, perhaps I shouldn't have called it a "hard reset"
I guess I can try to format the SD card, perhaps the problem lies with the card. Seems strange though that I don't get an error when trying to uninstall the apps from the "Manage applications" menu..
How can i uninstall via File Manager?
Update: Formating SD card did nothing..
No one got any clue? I just got the phone a couple of days ago, and its quite frustrating not being able to use it properly.
Yet another update: Seems I can't delete _anything_ on the phones internal memory, it just pops up again after doing a restart of the phone. I've even connected it to my PC and deleted some files via explorer..
Maybe its time to install a new rom like Samset 1.9b
As it fully wipes and reinstalls the os. If you don't want to do that I recommend you get it repaired or replaced. I find that factory reset sometimes don't actually work but a new rom does.

Thanks alot for answering
I've considered it. But I'm not sure I want to break my warranty which I guess flashing it might do? And also, if thats the case, it would be real bad to flash it/void warranty, just to find out I need to get it repaired anyways. That would suck bigtime..
I can't for the life of me figure out what might be wrong, seeing as NOTHING stucks to the internal memory after a restart of the phone..
Noone that has got any clues on what to do?
New update:
I've tried updating FW to JM2, seemed to go fine. But after update/flashing, I see that I still got the same apps and desktop background and such lying about.. Nothing seems to have been deleted.. And now I also get app errors immediately after starting up the phone. Menus and such seem to work fine.

Android Market: instant 'Download unsuccessful' message

Hi everyone,
I'm positing because I have a peculiar issue. I cannot download from the Android Market....and I have tried the solutions on the internet from clearing data/cache to trying to sync my google account in different ways...
Here is the background:
- Bought used Vibrant on craigslist
- rooted, unlocked, then unrooted, then hard reset
- no external SD card
After every hard reset, in two instances now, I have been able to download from Android market SUCCESFULLY for about a ~30 min window. After this time window, any download from Market does NOT work, and after clicking 'Install' immediately goes to the red triangle status 'Download unsuccessful.'
At all times, my internet still works fine, both on 2G/3G/wifi.
Android market website does NOT show my device (is this because the device only works with the very first sync when the phone was purchased??)
Something is locking me out from downloading. It's come to such a stupid workaround that since I know Market WILL work after a hard reset, I do a mass download of my app essentials in the ~30 minutes that I have.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Clear market cache
also, setting proper permissions on /data/ and /data/app might help (with a program like root explorer)
Do you use titanium backup? Restoring any setting? I got similar problem when I freeze "media container" in titanium backup.
Had this problem when z4mod was setting incorrect permissions on /system partition
All,
To avoid the issues with any roms/rooting, I unrooted the phone, as stated in the first post.
I basically got the phone back to 'stock' settings, and I have this issue. Any additional help would be great...this is my first experience with Android and it has only been headaches....
getting nostalgic with my old E71. haha
So, did you use odin to go to jfd?
I'm really interested and willing to help, just santo make sure I understand everything that you've done.
How did you root?
Why no external?

[Q] Missing Notification Bar

Hey all. I have a Droid X that has been running with Launcher Pro Plus for the past few months.
I rooted my phone the other day and everything was going fine. I downloaded Titanium Backup, ShootMe, and then Metamorph.
I've been checking out droidpirate.com and downloaded a few different notification bar color schemes, which were working fine. Today I downloaded another and decided I wanted to change it, so I switched to a new one through Metamorph, applied it, and rebooted my phone. Upon restart it was still the same color as before, so I applied again and before I could restart it gave me an error message that the status/notification bar (not sure which it said at the time) had crashed.
I restarted it, and ever since then I've had no notification bar. I've tried reapplying the color schemes in Metamorph and restarting after, but nothing has changed.
I've gone to the Launcher Pro settings and toggled on and off the "hide notification bar" setting which hasn't changed anything. I've restored my backup in Titanium Backup and it is still the same. I'm not sure what else to do at this point.
What do you all suggest? It really sucks to not see my battery meter, time, etc. when I open my phone. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
I don't know if this is best practice, but I would just re-sbf / reinstall rom.

Does that mean flashing the Droid X rom? I am new to all of this, so I'm sorry if these are stupid questions. And what guide would you recommend for going about doing this? Thanks!
Download RSD Lite and flash an SBF. There's a sticky telling you how to do this I'll subscribe to this thread in case you have any questions.
Great, thanks for the info! I'll give this a try tomorrow.
Wait!
Before you do that...
(Which is good advice, and would be my second choice...but you'll be without all of your applications and settings. This will put you on complete stock!)
http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/4.5.602/
Download the file that this theme was changing.
(system/framework/framework-res.apk I think?)
Download "Root Explorer" from the market...or a free alternative if you can get one to work.
I think "ES file explorer" works, but I've never tried it.
Check the "permissions" on the file you'll be replacing...and change the new file to have the same permissions (prior to moving, just to be safe).
Move and replace the new file into place.
If your phone didn't reboot during that process...
Double check the permissions again...
And reboot.
I knew it was only a matter of time, and that's a good resolve. Thanks for the alternative!

I'm not seeing that file on the website you mentioned. If I ctrl+f framework, all I see is a GoogleServicesFramework.apk file. Would it perhaps be the StatusWidget.apk from that list that I am looking for?
Status widget doesn't sound right, but I have never had to recover my notifications bar before.

Sorry man, at work...and can't check...but this should have it.
Or if you've purchased Rom Toolbox or Rom Manager...they have some .zips you can download via your phone and extract with your PC.
Ahh this is all confusing me. I can't find the framework-res.apk on that site either. Would it work to just hard reset my phone then download an app restore app? Then re-root it and restore everything to how it used to be with Titanium?
The framework-res.apk was an attempt to fix your phone without wiping your apps and all that fun stuff. A hard reset wouldn't fix the problem because the file, in theory, is still corrupted or not working. I would sbf your phone. It looks creepy but it's just resetting back to stock.

Go down to SBF: What is it, and what does it do?!?
If the files are offline because of the SOPAA thing, let me know.
Alright, looks like that's what I'm gonna try. Thanks to both of you for all the help, it is greatly appreciated . Before I go through with it I was just wondering, if I backup all my apps to my SD card with "App Backup and Restore" then reinstall the app after the backup, I'm guessing it should be able to reinstall my apps from the SD afterwards? (I wouldn't use Titanium to restore because I'm assuming that would restore my phone with the flawed system data I have now)
The apps themselves wont be flawed. The phone runs off a whole bunch of apk's. Just the apk that controls the notification bar was messed up. You should be fine with backing up your apps regardless of method. Use what program you're comfortable with.

Agreed...
But to reiterate...
Titanium won't bork you in any way.
Simply use the option>batch>restore USER apps option and you'll be %100 back to where you were...aside from having to change your settings back to where you had them...
Also...
Facebook and any "Overclocking" applications seem to behave badly when restored.
Not in a negative way...
But I always uninstall them after a restore and install manually through the market...
Facebook won't receive push notifications if you don't.
And Overclock apps simply may not work.
Everything else (game data...whatever) will be exactly as you had it.
Check my sig if you need...
And use the sections about backing up and restoring your data.
Ignore the actual rom flashing part...as it's irrelevant in your situation.
There is also another SBF link in there if the one Fluffy posted is dead.
So I downloaded the latest RSD lite with no problems, but whenever I try to download the "Droid X 4.5.602 SBF Gingerbread 2.3.3" file, it leads me to http://www.multiupload.com/57SX6Q5HJI which lists the file as 602.sbf.zip but downloads as a program called "iLivid", which is a video downloading program.
Any suggestions?
Different Mirror?

Figures, thanks a bunch. I tried the download links from two different forums and both led to that same program download, but it looks like I've got the right one downloading now. Thanks again for all the help, I'm going to try the whole restoration process this weekend when I have more time. I'll let you know how it goes.

lgsetupwizardglitch and tibackup glitch

soooo I used titaniumbackup to freeze and delete some apps after I had backed em up
now I wanted to perform a factory reset on the phone so I started restoring/unfreezing all the apps I had deleted/frozen
problem 1:
now I had deleted an app called lgsetupwizard which is apparantly the setup you go trough first time you turn on your device,
now it started replacing my launcher with this, and I couldn't change it to anything else...
problem 2: for one app I accedentaly clicked the delete backup instead of restore which was an app called lgslideaside I don't know what it does
and if it's important for the system to still work after a reset..
and if I can reset the device with the setupwizard still frozen? :s
thanks in advance
At this point you're probably better off restoring the phone using either the *.tot or *.kdz method.

Problem1: Can you drag down the notification bar and click the settings icon right above? If so then you could probably set from there the home app.
Problem2: I don't think its really important for the system to operate since lgslideaside is like an gesture app switching with 3 fingers you can switch apps if you slide your fingers to the other side so slideaside ;p
I don't know or you can reset the device with the setupwizard frozen I think you can but did you tryed to enable it from the Apps tab in the settings?
Else if setupwizard is really screwed and if its important then you could maybe push the setupwizard and the lgslideaside to your phone but you have to take it from the same rom you have but if you have stock then try to find a stock rom from the same android version and the the apk/odex. If everything doesn't work then you maybe need to flash the Stock android 4.4.2 kdz or jellybean in normal mode but This would be the last thing i would recommend to you since your phone is still booting ;p
Try my things and i hope your problem couldbe solved:good:

Broke settings.

So i installed the samsung s5 lockscreen, or at least attempted to, I never realized you needed to flash in recovery. First I backed my files up. Then with the zip all I did was copy the files down to system in EZ Explorer, when I found out that my settings.apk went missing and the home button didnt work(or the lockscreen) I tried to restore my files, I restart my phone but no change still no settings and home button doesnt interact at all. (Stock S4 with Root)
(Also I cannot install apps anymore) Any help greatly appreciated!
I think you can solve this by Android development bridge (adb). In a few words, this is a way you can modify your internal memory from your ?. So, you have to push all backup.
If you don't know how to use it, in this page there are a lot of helpful post.

Sorry the app creates a backup, or do I need to have a previously installed backup?
Messed up even further!
Guys I tried to factory reset hoping to fix the problem, but as the config window opens up, I'm flooded with errors. My question is should I just install a ROM and hope that fixes it, or just go to my provider and go by the warranty?(Root I used is towelroot, so it should be gone after FR, so the warranty should still be good.)
Found a fix!
I did what it says here, works perfect except for wifi(Other then that its great)
