Another Froyo update... - Vibrant General

So... I was finally able to talk my wife into updating her horrible mytouch 3g. The only thing she was willing to get was the mytouch 4g. No problem, seeing as how she cares nothing about tweaking or mod'n her phone. I am however a little surprised with her new phone. It came out of the box with 2.2.1, which makes it very snappy with a 1743 quadrant score.
Now getting to the point of this topic. We just came from our local T-mobile store buying the spousal unit a case for her new phone and while there I asked the rep...
Me: "So when can I expect to have 2.2 on my vibrant?"
Rep: "It's already out. My buddy over there has it already."
Me: "I know you CAN get it, but i'm referring to the official release."
Rep: "Ohhhh (puzzled look while looking around). It should be first quarter?"
I just thought this was funny while it transpired. What he secretly meant was 1st fiscal quarter which ends in just 4 days time. I know for a fact that he knows what he is talking about. (Laying the sarcasm on pretty thick)
Just thought I would share this. I hope no one jumps on this thinking I am posting that I actually received the update. Have a great evening all!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Yeah a reps told me that too.
No sarcasm intended.
But might as well edit you're first post and erase it all.
people here have been fed enough lies so now they'll start bashing the OP.

Yep, file with "i know a guy....".
I'm sure he had no clue what you even meant by 2.2.
The epidemic continues.

Froyo really might be near because the leaks are getting better and better. But i don't expect it to come less than a month.

Eh... let em bash away. I wasn't claiming to know any inside intel. I wanted to share a funny story ;-)

Dont see where it gets funny.

I found it kind of funny where the rep said it's already out, even though he knows there's been no Official release.

Notice something different in Kies mini. The firmware upgrade data was 2010-10-01. Now it becomes 2010-12-29, however it still says my JI6 is the latest version. Probably they're updating the file on server. Hope so...

Ehhh the rep was probably some high school kid that doesnt know squat. I love going into TMobile cause most of the reps are clueless.....its good for a laugh.

Mine, too. Goes back and forth between the "Firmware upgrade: 2010-12-29" date and then a "Firmware Version: Failed to connect to the model information server"
Something's up.

Very funny story, I bought a T-mobile manager's Vibrant from for my wife (If i got one she HAS to have one- trust me this makes life way easier) Anyway, he gave me almost the same BS until I started interrogating his line of BS....... Then "uh... i really don't know, i don't think any one really knows"...........THAT WAS THE TRUTH........... Love the Devs here if it wasn't for them we all would have to settle for the retail junk that they sell....... Funny Story though...........

Yeah... I saw that. Little skeptical though because once you trace the source back to handhelditems they say someone got that info from a webchat with Sprint. We all know to think twice about those! lol It does seem to line up with that April 9th update that's been floating around though. Who knows...
Hopefully this is true and not another april fools prank. It was about a week-week and a half ago they rumored it would release in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed.................
With all the sprint leaks we have been getting I think it might be getting close.
But who knows
I already have it thanks damage

don't worry, Sprint will just repackage one of the XDA roms as their own and use it as the official update
ive said it once ill say it again the april 9th update is a maintenance release to fix mms issues not 2.1
sprint hasnt told us anything beyond that
any new news on an "official" release date? im hearing either the 9th or 26th of this month? i don't get why sprint is soo tight lipped about this?
also when is the nexus & evo launching on sprint?
no ONE cares anymore

with alot of tweaking to do after the initial install, yes your right.
i hope when the final comes out and we get custom roms, we won't have to apply any fixes. this is one reason im back to 1.5 for now. i have faith in the devs here, they do great work!
Why do we keep creating threads on this issue. It is a waste of space. It will come when Sprint is ready to release it. They have never given an exact date. People get so pissed because they haven't sent an update. Well guess what. When you bought your phone it had 1.5. They are not required to update it to 2.1. Either use a custom ROM or shut up and wait until it comes out. Then when it comes on don't get on here complaining about how crappy the release is.
I have Fresh 2.0d and it is working very well.
----------------------------
Shut up and wait
Running: Fresh2.0d
Developing:WarpedMetal (T minus 2 weeks)
Just got out of a sprint chat. this is what they're saying
honestly no thread can "waste space" as well we have plenty of it. I wasn't complaining nor *****ing about it. I am more happy with the legend based roms then the leaked Sprint roms but when the official Rom hits it will help with more development to fix issues and get faster roms out there. honestly if you don't like these threads the easy thing to do is stay out of them. no one is forcing anyone to read the forum or a certain posts. forums are for talking that is there main and only reason for existing.
damn I hate trolls.

Does Sprint use any automated responses on the chat support? I know there's quite a few companies that do, the program just selects a basic response to generic questions about that subject, and it seems like the responses that are given by these reports are way too "computery" to be coming from a human. So I'm guessing that the system Sprint's chat support uses has a list of responses pop up based on key words in the client's question.
Probably way off base, but it'd almost make sense based on how similar the responses are in all these chat transcripts.

Samsung Moment gets 2.1 official???

I just read as I googled "Sprint 2.1 update" I get all kinds of, Sprint releases Moment update 2.1, I thought we were getting the "official bits" first?
Why is it I always pick the phone that takes forever to get anything done on, lol...
Thank God for XDA!
I think you need to re-read your google links, as it was a leak.
Something that we've had a few times now for the 2.1 roms...

All I can say is that it's about damn time. I've been loving 2.1 on my hero for the last couple weeks while my wife's moment has been crying itself to sleep. Looks like they've already rooted it over at SDX, so I'm gonna probably flash that whenever I get home from work.
Of course, what would be *really* nice is if Sprint put out something official for a change.

Has sprint ever officially done anything
This is crazy...
Just for you narrow-minded people...
Just because it is not "officially" released on your schedule, doesn't mean anything negative to a company...
Just look at Verizon and the Storm 1.. People kept hounding and hounding Verizon for updates for the phone, but when the update wasn't what they expected, go crazy that they should have done better QA...
It is Sprint's responsibility to make sure all issues are addressed and taken care of... Do you have any idea how many thousands of issues are brought in the testing phase???
Do you know how hard it would be to guarantee a million phones for retail, from a single demo(test) device??
Have a just a tiny bit of understanding and stop complaining....

Narrow minded? Is that would you consider Microsoft? They release software that has no business being in the market place, only to patch it every tuesday when admins like me all over the world find bugs and exploits, and errors and problems. Just release the damn thing, and do incrementals as needed. Take the M$ route and get us what we want!

I would take that with a grain of salt, if I had a dime for every article I saw that had a date in it, I'd have enough money to buy Google and get 2.1
It'll be out whenever Sprint is ready. It doesn't help that they are dragging their feet, most likely for their proprietary apps. I'm not holding my breath.

Will Tmobile and Samsung Give us

a update this week on a Update? lol
Im gonna say no. Its the 6th of oct. now and I believe sept.28th is when the Kies update hit and Tmobile said do not update, Information about a update will be posted in a week or Upcoming week I dont remember. Well, a week has gone and past and nothing.
I will say I bet, that by the end of this week, lets say Saturday night, there will still be no word on a update.. I for one am rooted and flashed Eugenes Twiz final so I dont need a 2.1 gps fix or what not, I want froyo. Even then though I doubt there will be any word on any update this week.
So, POLL.
Edit: Please dont respond with, why does every *****, blah blah be patient a update is soon. SOON IS NOT 1/4 of a DAMN year, Every other SGS has had a update, hell Captivate has a leaked FROYO rom. How long will people keep saying, keep waiting, we will have it soon.
EDIT: I post threads like this so it bites me in the ass and we get a update sooner. See, it worked. WE got a update before my timeline was up...

You know why they don't say anything definitive? Because if something goes wrong at the last minute and the deadline slips, they'll catch even more flak.
We can't make this go any faster. Nothing you say or do is going to make Froyo come out faster. Just go out and take a walk or something. Life will not end in the interval between now and Froyo.

As ususal, Engadget gets it wrong. They can't even read a press release, and never bothered to pick up the phone and call Samsung. This announcement was datelined from London and about the UK, which is clear from its context.
See also this thread in Vibrant forum.
p.s. As recently as a few minutes ago, Samsung's Galaxy S support site for the U.S. on Twitter was saying there is not ETA for Froyo on this side of the pond at all.
Deployment for the Epic is even more complicated than the rollout for the GSM-based variants in the U.S. If the Epic gets Froyo in November, I will be most pleasantly surprised.
one way or another it seems like typical samsung taking forever to release an update

I'm inclined to believe this since Rogers in Canada is saying their version of the Captivate will get Froyo in 2011. If Froyo was ready in 2010, everywhere else in the world, why would Rogers tell their customers to expect it in 2011?

What? You want to wait until 2012 to get a new OS update?
What does 2.2 offer that you can't have on 2.1? I just don't see what the big deal is anyways. Is everyone that unsatisfied with their phone that they are getting bent out of shape about 2.2? This is Sprint and Samsung we are talking about right? I fully expect it to be here in January or February. In the mean time, I will enjoy my Epic with 2.1 Which is still better than the Evo on 2.2, imho.

I heard flash sucked with 2.2 but that's just me. Granted it's nice to have and it's something the I-suck doesn't have so that's always a plus.
Phone is plenty fast for me but I don't do anything extensive on it. Even when it drops I'll probably still wait a while to see if it's even worth it. Reading the Evo forums, it sounded like it was more trouble than it was worth and broke more things than fixed.

Why not just ship it with stock Android (and more than 3 screens) and then allow us to customize our devices as we see fit?

Yeah I went to the Sprint store when I went and bought my case for my Epic and messed around with an Evo..be it a display, and they had a screen protector on it, the screened looked REALLY grainy, and it was very very slow. I'm guessing it hadn't been restarted in awhile and had every app open on it running in the background. I checked it and sure enough it was running on 2.2.

Woo! More unsubstantiated rumors.
With each failed attempt at guessing a release date, our chances of being correct on the next guess improve, right guys? Guys?
So EA17 means that it was completed on the 17th of January. So either they are clueless how to release this OTA without bricking devices or they are really testing the **** out of this one then. I hope its the latter case.
I feel like Charlie Brown going to kick the football. Surely Lucy won't pull it away again this time...
I think this one will actually be the one, theres already proof with that picture. Now Now, I know that it can be edited, but still, it seems like this date will be the one we were actually waiting for.
I just don't get it.
EA17... so it's already done.
It's not out because it's being tested.
So why is there a release date?
- If they know it's fine, it should be out already.
- If they expect it to fail, then how do they know it will be ready by a certain date?
If I had my way a lot would be different... but I don't understand how/why the final release will not be a build dated maybe a week before the actual release date, a date we will not know until it happens.

It makes perfect sense. They are going to test whatever they release for a while to make sure its polished. The rumor that AC received was probably that IF they dont find any major bugs in this version, it will be released on the 21st.
If they are so sure it's fine, they should release it now...
And if they DO find an issue, they'll disappoint everyone AGAIN.
This is nothing more than predicting the future, and they've been doing it poorly for 6mos now, why does Sprint think they'll get it right this time?
Releasing it at such-and-such date assuming all's well is what they have been doing since August.

Sprint isn't leaking the rumors. It's individuals that work for Sprint who want to give us an idea of when we might expect it (then they find some bugs)... or just douchebags that want to throw out rumors for laughs. Again, Sprint doesn't say when they are releasing updates because that makes them look worse if it's buggy or they don't follow through.

I am running 2.2, it has some issues, but works remarkably well. No FC's, and only slight screen rotation lag. So I can wait for Froyo... I am willing to wait because I want them to fix any and all bugs... Whether that be GPS, keyboard misses, screen rotation, whatever..
I am not a Sprint Lacky, have no stock in the company, but how people can get so emotionally attached to a software upgrade is beyond me. I can only imagine what people will be saying if they released a rushed buggy version.
Those of us that flashed the FroYo DK28 will still get this OTA if/when it comes out, right?
Still getting used to this phone. The Nexus One I used to have was a lot different.
I'd be happy with a new leak that's better than DK28 instead of "release dates" for froyo.

Not exactly. You will have to flash stock DI18 for the OTA to come through and install. But I recommend waiting for our dev teams to get hold of it first to tweak it.
