How much RAM does it have? - Nexus S General

Is that normal that after restart I can see only 65Mb of used memory and 235Mb of free memory?

Yes. The rest is allocated to the system for things like the camera and GPU (which takes a sizable chunk).

After camera buffers, radio, etc, there are about 350MB free:
MemTotal: 355108 kB

More Ram ?

My Qtek S100 has 64 MB Ram built in. Currently I have 10.72 MB Data Memory free and 11.11 MB Program Memory free. I want to use an app which needs at least 20 mb Ram free. How can I get more ram free (maybe an app which compresses Data) ?
or you could install some of your stuff on a SD Card insted ?

xda exec has become sluggish

Hello
My XDA EXEC has become sluggish, especially when i hit the start button, it takes time to come up with the drop down list. also it takes its sweet time to "power up". at times it comes up with a hite screen for a couple of seconds and then displays the windows "desktop". sometimes it comes up wtih the four color circle
can you guys help. i checked th memory settings and it shows the following
Storage
Total: 43.50 MB
In Use: 42.50 MB
Free: 1.00 MB
Program
Total: 49.93 MB
In use: 23.78 MB

erm, try freeing up some space to see if things get better perhaps?
Andy
thanks for pointing me in the right direction
i found out that some ow i had started a video while talking to my friend, the video had taken up 12 MB of memory and that was the problem
i thought storage memory belonged to the card,
i guess some how the system has partitioned storage memory and program memory
dont know any micorsoft environment that can run anything on 1mb of anything
always try to keep a minimum of 10mb of everything on these devices
even IE can chew up lots if you use lots of sites, so keep clearing the ie stored cache and watch your memory, DAILY.

Device Information: RAM, Flash ... Storage?

Hi.
I've read some of the posts regarding RAM/ROM ... still having a difficult time understanding both. Hope someone can answer the below questions to clarify my thoughts on RAM/ROM with respect to the XDA II mini [aka Magician]
(1) If you go into setting, device_information, and then choose hardware; you see that RAM size [128], Flash size [64], and storage size [26.7]. What is storage size, is it RAM or ROM?
(2) n the memory settings, what is the best way to allocate total main memory between storage and program? Currently i have it set @ default, which is equal amounts of memory for storage and program.
Thanxs in advance for any explanations.
1: Storage = Built-in ROM
Most PPCs come with some ROM built in for programs and documents. Your Magician must have a BigStorage hacked ROM image - usually Magicians only come with ~7MB Storage, but hacking the ROM image can yield 20MB more by reallocating the (useless) Extended_ROM which is normally used by telephony providers to store their customisations and bells and whistles.
2: Your choice!
Allocating more memory to programs will give running programs more RAM to work with, which primarily means that you can run more programs simultaneously. Also allocating more RAM to programs can speed up programs that use lots of RAM such as PocketGBA, which may load up to 32MB of data into RAM depending on what game you load with it, and TCPMP, which uses RAM to buffer videos.
Allocating more memory to storage gives you more room to install programs in 'Main Memory'. Since RAM is faster than ROM, programs installed in storage allocated RAM will load faster, however they will eat up RAM which could otherwise be used by running programs. The time difference between RAM, Storage and SD cards to load programs is neglible anyway.
Personally I would rather allocate as much as possible towards programs, leaving probably as little as 10MB for storage in total. Since you have BigStorage, install programs into there instead, so you can leave your RAM for programs or for the camera (as there is a noticeable speed difference between writing pictures and videos to ROM and writing them to RAM).
Wish I had a 128MB Magician  !
thanxs for clearing that up toomuchdogfur

I see. Just wondering, if i were to upgrade or degrade my version of ROM, would that delete the BigStorage hacked ROM?

So let me get this straight ... if were to load a application, say Pocket Music, would that effect both the "In Use" status for Storage [because it physically takes space to store the application in the program folder] and Program [because its being used].
So if a program is being runned, it should take away some memory under "Program".
If a program is installed, regardless if it is in use or not, takes away some memory under "Storage".
Is this correct?

Yep. Most likely you would have to hack it again to regain BigStorage.

If it is installed in 'Main Memory' (which is the 'Storage' bit of your RAM), then yes. If it is installed in your Built-In Storage or SD card, then it will permanently take up space on that instead, but then when running it will also take up some 'Program' RAM.

Incredible: Phone Memory

From what I understand, the Incredible has 512 MB RAM Memory. Under my setting though, it says phone memory total space 748 MB, available 608 MB. what am I missing here? How much memory is available for RAM and how much is available for the ROM?
(phone internal flash storage is 8 GB and SD Card is separate.. all of that is understood).
748MB is your ROM. This is where the system image is stored, applications, etc.
512MB is your RAM. This is like "live" data, where applications currently running are storing their temporary data, etc.

okay, so the RAM is not displayed under the settings then uh?
I don't believe it is.
However, there are several system information apps that will show you your current RAM usage, which apps are taking up how much memory, etc. Just search for "system" in the market, and you'll find plenty.

First off, quick question. Anyone know why My phone RAM is Completely spent? It constantly sits around 15MB free of 110MB. Larger games wont load and just crash at the loading screen to the home screen, other games are lagy at times. If this was a computer I would say its a ram issue and I am running out of usable ram. Any ideas?? I just want to get this phone working so I can sell the headache. So far this ROM seems to run awesome and has none of the issues I experienced with the other ROMS except when put under load.
64MB swap and still no change
still curious as to why my RAM is spent..... Installed a RAM app and confirmed 15-20MB available of 115MB. I used this app to kill the running precesses and it brought me up to 45MB free but it gradualy dropped back down to 15-20 free. Even with all services Killed, including the system sevices, I was still at 45MB free of 115MB. What is using the other 70MB? Anyone?
