[Q] Any chances to crack the bootloader? - XPERIA X8 General

What are the chances to crack the bootloader in xperia family? X10 is out for a bit of time now, and still nothing...?! What is the whole process about. Eg. LG gt 540 users can load custom kernels, and OC etc. OC module can be applied in our kernel?
Thanks for explanation.
::SEx8+root+xRecovery+JiT+app2SD::

I am very angry when I'm reading about for eg. new cyans for Spica or Gt540... And we still have... nothing. Thanks God for root. :/
I don't know why devs aren't interesting in X8

crack bootloader?
why cracking bootloader?

azuzu, please tell us how is the progress in cracking BL. I know you know something. :>
Don't have to be cracking it, but we want custom kernels, swap, oc, and other mods

so are devs gonna skip 2.1 and onto 2.2?

Just curious question, been browsing for the past few days after root was achieved and didn't see this topic mention(unless i missed it). But are dev. just gonna skip with the 2.1 roms and go for a 2.2 rom instead?

Devs do what they want, it's unpossible to predict what ROMs might be interesting to put together. On one hand 2.2 is way faster and more exciting from a technical point of view but otoh SE will release a 2.1 soonish and it might be easier to mod that.
yeh i know, thats why i said curious question, haha i wasn't demanding that they make this or that ^.^, just wanted to see where we stand now after getting root. Hopefully one of those dev got really bored from working on a rom and read my post and answer...haha

Hehe, the point really is that it's way too early to speculate about building ROMs. I'm betting that a lot of time is being spent on "fixing" the bootloader, I'd be surprised if there was any ROM development going on at all besides fixing any problems caused by the rooting.
Once we have a hacked bootloader we can do anything and since the hardware is fairly close to the Nexus One or Desire it shouldn't be very difficult to port 2.2. It could probably be done in less than a few days, maybe more if there are driver issues.
Kitchen is closed till bootloader gets broken. When it's done, i'm quite sure only froyo will be developed.
Hi,
I havent toyed around much with bootloaders and android.. but does the bootloader check the kernel checksum before invoking the kernel? ... How does the bootloader determine what kernel to invoke?
What needs to be changed in the bootloader to get Froyo running?...
For me it seems like a simple task to exchange the kernel without touching the bootloader (if the kernel is not checked by the bootloader before actual boot).. We have root, so exchanging the kernel is not that hard is it?...
two things could stop one from doing it:
1. Kernel is hardcoded in bootloader and read only.
2. bootlaoder might have security mechanisms to make sure the kernel is correct.
One should not need to modify the bootloader to get going..

I can't quote chapter and verse but I'm fairly certain that there's a checksum in the kernel and possible the ROM too that the bootloader checks. Unlike with the N1 we can't remove that check with a simple adb command.
Well what ever it takes I sure wish the people working on this the very best. It would be great having the new Abode flash 10.1 which will only work with 2.2 or newer! It is just too bad SE aren't considering this point
It is more related to the bootloader applying security checks to the kernel loading..

bootloader and kernels

Okay now this is a guide for maybe noobs and mostly software modifiers.Hi reader. thanks for reading lol. now this piece of work is something that even educates me. welcome to wilbso's unlocking bootloader and adding kernels guide. im gonna try and keep this short so you dont nod off...
What is a bootloaderWell...a locked bootloaer (normal) is something that stops you from adding custom kernels. you think that rooting your phone and loading a custom rom is all. well you thought wrong. yes you can install drivers such as multitouch etc by rooting but unlocking your bootloader is a totally (almost) different thing. now, these days, gingerdx requires linuxdx-which requires unlocking your bootloader. unlocking the bootloader can either end up in satisfactory... or... full and complete brick. now a full brick is-blah blah blah ( i will make a seperate thread for what type of bricks there are and what they mean)
so, basically unlocking your bootloader properly free's your phone. still think your up to it? wow your pretty brave lol...
What is a custom kernel?A custom kernel is something other than a stock kernel.need anymore?
It is something that improves your phone. make it stand out. it can also improve the performance of your phone. if you would like to see a guide on how to build a custom kernel then click here
how to unlock your bootloader. I have unlocked my bootloader and I followed these threads. It would be a good idea to follow this and this
but when i did it i downloaded flashtool, s1tool (to check if my bootloader was unlocked) and something else ( i cant remember what it was called but it ran in my terminal i think). when i did unlock my bootloader i checked it with s1tool (i cant remember if THATS right either though lol) and i successfully managed it ut i still recommend reading the links that i put.
please, do hit the thanks button on my posts and the posts i put links to. i would greatly appreciate it.
kernelsi have looked at many different kernels since august ( the month i joined xda) and they all look cool.
flash them by a flashtool. i now run linuxdx v04
here's some kernels i have come across:
A gingerbread kernel
Linuxdx v04
Alfs for gingerdx
If you have any questions plese post them here or my FAQ or my latest guide to roms and mods. Also i am not responsible for any damage to you phone
And remember to press the thanks THANKSbutton
NO trolling here is tolerated either. cheers!

I have learned so far how to install custom rom, but in one post i have found that there are some animations to be added for my phone, and it says:
"Addons Miui Animation
Use stock kernel."
What does it mean how to install it?

i dont know much about miui cuz i isnt supported for x8 but if your talking about bootanimation. a boot animation is something that replaces your current boot up logo. you can get an app that does it and you can flash them with a recovery i think
EDIT: I have now unlocked my bootloader and I am using alfs kernel with Ginger dx v021

You don't have to flash kernel if you don't want to.you can unlock bootloader by itself. Just unlocking it means you have the ability to flash kernels and drivers

is ther any ICS roms for verizon R800x

hey my play comes in the 3erd and i will like to know is there any working ICS roms for it and how to go about doing every thing i need to. i use to have the lg ally running velocity v1.2 but by the looks of it with my new play i have flashing roms and recover look way harder then the ally was so i need some info guys and a guide and what roms are save to flash and what recovery do i need to have also and thanks for you help also!!!
I havent seen any ICS roms for the r800x but recovering/flashing roms is made very very easy with this from the android market "Xperia CWM Auto-Instaler"
You don't even need to unlock the bootloader, just needs to be rooted and then go about setting up the Xperia CWM Auto-Instaler and just make a nandroid backup. I would reccommend using Cola's rom or IT-ROM (which is based off of Cola's rom) for the r800x, they both have worked perfectly for me and I'm currently running IT-ROM which definitely makes the r800x run much smoother/faster.
Wifi, 3g, sms, ect all worked without any issues, and if you're somone who is worried about being able to overclock, I know someone is working on that with Cola's rom, but I dont think it's finished yet. But, those roms take care of basically any speed issues one may have with their r800x, it definitely did the trick for me.
Good luck

Read more prior to posting... There's a lot of info in here (no ICS), and unless you take the time to sift through it all and understand it, you will mess up your phone.

ya i know that as i have done all of this with the ally but what i dont know is with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14815942&postcount=4 do i root and then flash the recover and then install the rom because i know the recovery does not work with stock and thats what i will be on or do i install the rom and then the recovery if i have more info on this then im good
How are planning on installing the ROM without recovery? Seriously, read everything again so you don't brick your phone.
And make sure you're installing a ROM for locked bootloaders.... If you try to install that CM7 ROM it'll likely never boot again.

ok i looked up some info and i can not unlock my bootloader on the R800x i am so happy i did not try and flash the CM7 lol
you can unlock your boot loader it just cost $$ , someone with setool , a paper clip and not minding voiding your warrantee. I would not suggest it until you've gotten a bit experience under your belt but when you get there its worth having done in my opinion , many people vary on this subject and they're right also.
There is limited real benefit to unlocking the R800x, since the devs have been focusing on the locked ROMs... Not much out there, unless you're planning to develop it yourself.

[POLL] PrimeHD on Stock Kernel?

I've opened this thread because I want to collect some statistics. Please participate in the poll.
Please click on 'Yes' only if you haven't unlocked your bootloader.
I have some targets for this i.e. the poll will only be counted only if it has 100+ participants, otherwise ignored.
Thank You.
No, dude it is outdated. We need to upgrade our kernel for better performance. But this will be helpful for those who can't open their bootloaders so yeah useful for some people.
YES !!!!!!!!!!!!! My frenz need it cause his hardware is 11w51, criticaly dangerous to unlock.
Yes. Not unlocked bootloader 11w33

I need the ROM for Stock kernel. I don't have any problem updating with Kernel but with boot loader.
101% yes!!!Because i dont want to unlock again my bootloader because now i know the risk...
i don't use stock kernel but i voted yes for stock kernel, because here have much people that can not unlock bootloader, then people, vote yes please for stock kernel because these people thus can use this rom in their phones..FREEDOM OF CHOICE!!

yes plss
I tried to unlock my bootloader once and it just end with a hardbrick and it takes 1month for the se service center to repair my unit
reason
Reason is simple. I had a simlock. For now there is no safe way to unlock bootloader and the simlock NOT to come back.
Cheers,
yea i want it on stock kernel i have unlocked my bootloader but i want it for those who cant its the best rom ever and i want it for my other brothers as well
I want more ROMs on stock kernel.
11w48 I bought my x8 almost 2 months ago and the first thing I tried was to update it. Then I realised that my phone will never get past 2.1 ,so I read that I can manually install 2.2 or 2.3 ROM. And a week later my phone was running gingerdx. But I wanted something more, I wanted a custom kernel and I was very disappointed to read that I can't unlock my bootloader. I check the development section about 10 times a day and Im very happy when I see a new ROM or a ROM that gets updated. But most of them are for alfs or nAa and I feel like noone cares about the people who can't unlock their bootloaders. I voted YES. Thank you.
I guess the development of this rom will released till xmas if we wait the 100voters because not all is participate...
As of now 42 have voted with 31 for and 11 against. Guys please don't vote against there are lot of your brothers who can't unlock their bootloader..please please vote infavour.

YES please
Well as said before, many of us cant unlock bootloader and there are few roms to pick from that are updated for us. I would really like to try this ROM. And would like to see other ROMs updated as well. We all want the same thing. A smooth, good looking rom that is up to date with the best modules, speed mods, and completely works. I have found a couple. but most you gotta enable, and update modules. Some dont even have any modules, so you got to use root explorer to install them yourself. Thank You for asking this question. Hopefully it will get more attention to itself and other roms that wed like to see on stock kernel. Oh and a bunch of yes votes.
Yes we need more Rom's for stock kernel as I don't want to unlock bootloader. My x8 11w01 so should be fine to unlock. I hope for ics on stock kernel but this is not looking promising.

Bootloader

If the bootloader is locked to only accept signed kernels would it be possible to forge the signature? I have never thought about the development before so sorry if this seems stupid.
Why not man great great idea.
Provided you have one of the nsa's super computer..
Sorry for being saccastic but the moto key is 1024 bits thats gonna take ample amount of power to break it.(days ,months or maybe years.)
One more stupid idea from me:
We have some guys who have unlocked bootloaders , those who got the defy repaired from service stations and now have a SE OMAP. Can those guys compile a kernel which suits our need and we can just flash the kernel like we go a CM7 or CM9 (froyo or GB) from recovery?
Its just a thought.... If we just need kernel, why not go this route?
check project cheesecake in development subforum .it would help you as am noob when it comes to bootloader and development.
Btw lets see i have send my defy for a motherboard replacement and see if i get a unlocked bootloader or not..

even if they can compile a kernel, we would not be able to flash it on locked one.
Ohhh. so thats the sole reason we just have two kernels of defy...
one is froyo
other is GB
Both locked to bootloaders.
Thanks for the info...
Thanks, could we make a custom sbf and use that as a base for cm9?
