A way to get GPS to work - Galaxy 3 General

I have managed to get GPS signal in less that 20 seconds in my Galaxy i5800 (original firmware I5800XWJG8), here is what I do.
CAUTION: USE this ONLY if you have a 3G data plan enabled from your provider! otherwise you provider will charge you in your monthly bill
1. Turn on mobile data (I use Quick Settings app found in Market that makes it easy to select-deselect)
2. Turn on Auto Sync Data (Settings/Accounts and Sync or more easily using Quick Settings app)
3. Turn on GPS
4. Run GPSopt app (You can find it in Market if you type in search "octy", it is the app named GPS Optimisation, download it and install it first)
5. Run your navigation app (I use nDrive)
-I pass steps 1,2 cause I have them always enabled (I makes battery last a little bit less though).
-You can pass step 3 also as you can set GPS always on without battery draining since GPS is used only when the navigation app asks for it.
-You can make easier the whole procedure if you use another app named Tasker and make a profile that automatically after you run ndrive, tasker runs gpsopt first.
Hope I helped until Samsung corrects the GPS bug.

I am using Dotfred's Task Manager. I'm sure he is on XDA, but his home website is:
http://www.dotfred.net/
I have a list of a couple things but I havn't tried them all I just found them somewhere else. I will put an * infront of ones that seem to be working on my system Mougle WM 6.1. I couldn't try all the keys because the weren't on my system or I need the services they provided. My RAM has increased my about 5MG I was starting at 19MG and getting as low as 2 or 3 through the day. Now I start at over 20 and I get as low as 15 normally.
*STOP ACTIVE SYNC FROM AUTO STARTING
1. DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL MEMMAID
2. GO TO "NOTIFICATIONS" TAB
3. LOOK IN THE LOWER SECTION AND THERE ARE 3 "REPLLOG" FILES (ACTIVESYNC)
4. ONE OF THEM WILL SAY "APPRUNAFTERTIMECHANGE" WHEN HIGHLIGHTED
5. DELETE THAT ONE (THE OPTION AT THE LOWER RIGHT SIDE WILL RESTORE IT ANYTIME YOU WANT)
DONE, ACTIVESYNC WON'T AUTOSTART WITH NETWORK SYNC AND YOUR NETWORK SYNC IS STILL ACTIVE.
I DID THESE FOLLOWING TWEAKS
1. WINDOWS LIVE=SELF EXPLANATORY
2. SQMUPLOAD=CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
3. OBEX(MOST OF YOU WHO HAVE BLUETOOTH DONGLES PROBABLY WON'T WANT TO DISABLE THIS)
4. DPT / DTPT (GOOGLE SEARCHING INDICATES THAT THIS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME SORT OF DHCP ACTIVITY (KILLS INTERNET SHARING)
5. BTHIDSVC(MY BLUETOOTH HEADSET WORKS FINE WITH THIS MISSING, I'M NOT SURE IF ANY OTHER BLUETOOTH OPERATIONS ARE AFFECTED, AS I DON'T HAVE A BLUETOOTH DONGLE FOR MY COMPUER)
*6. SMSRETRY = THIS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR AUTOMATICALLY TRYING TO SEND MESSAGES IF YOU'RE OUT OF SERVICE OR ROAMING.
FROM HKLM\INIT I'VE DISABLED...
*1. PLAYSILENCE.EXE
2. UPTIMESQM.EXE(CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE)
*3. TIMEWIZARD.EXE / TIME SYNC (GOOGLING HAS SHOWN THIS TO KEEP THE TIME RIGHT AFTER A COLD BOOT[TAKING THE BATTERY OUT], HOWEVER, MY TIME SYNCS WITH SPRINT'S SERVERS)
Let me know if you come up with anything else.

Major GPS ISSUSE FOUND, READ THIS!!!

First let me say that I found this on accident, if you haven't read my other post "GPS SOLUTION FOUND" read it after this, but THIS BY FAR IS THE LARGEST STRIDE IN A GPS FIX FOR THE ACER TABLET.
MAPS STILL SEARCHING FOR SIGNAL, SOLVED, AND THE FIX IS STILL NOMADIC, SO REPEAT THIS EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO USE MAPS, THE SPEED IS WORTH UNTIL WE CAN FIND A WAY AROUND THIS
Instructions:
Required: file manager
1. Open file manager
2. Open "sdcard" folder
3. Open "Android" folder
4. Open "Data" folder
5. Delete "com.google.android.apps.maps"
6. start Navigation.
7. Not seeing best results, read below instructions
GPS SOLUTION FOUND, READ ABOVE BEFORE THIS***
For best results use both methods together. After using both on my ICONIA average GPS lock time under 60 seconds
Method 1.
NOT ROOTED
To clear GPS cache THIS ALWAYS HELPS<<<<<<<!!!!!!!!!
Instructions:
1. Download and install GPS Status & Toolbox from android market
2. Open the GPS Status & Toolbox
3. Press Menu -> Tools
4. Tap on Manage A-GPS state
5. Tap Reset
6. Tap Download
7. Enjoy faster GPS locking
Method 2.
ROOTED***
BUSYBOX REQUIRED
Required:
Root access
Fasterfix app from market
read all of this post so you don't screw yourself.
Instructions:
To speed up google maps nav: Install "Fasterfix" app from market, open app, accept super user permissions, pick region (!!!never change this) then test via google maps navigation. Should speed it up $hit load, just as fast as my incredible when it was new. Hope this helps
Honestly until android comes up with a fix for the maps app I'm going to use WASE GPS found in market you MIGHT get a search for SIGNAL, BUT MUCH FASTER GPS.
FYI!!!!!!!! DONT REPICK REGION IN FASTERFIX APPLICATION!!!!! or you will have to do this:
It appears I was having some issues cingularly in the davlik cache because I changed my region in fasterfix because I figured what the fnck, and that screwed up my speed so when you pick your region stick with it or you will slow the crap out of navigation plus to fix it you will have unistall fasterfix, delete" [email protected]@[email protected][/email]" under davik-cache, reinstall pick region, test via navigation.
Info:
Sorry about last post: you will only need to open Fasterfix app once.
Misc:
It appears that fastfix is server based location finder, what ever that means
Hmmmmm... even on my totally stock a500, not doing anything but opening the app, inside my house on an overcast day it only took Copilot 1:27 to lock on.
It takes my Galaxy Tab much longer even outside.
Maybe I got lucky with a good GPS.
great gps
i too have no issues with the gps only google nav for some reason takes forever even after it shows the gps icon.soild as/fixed.
the gps status/and tool box broke my.gps.had to uninstall it uninstall and reinstall co-pilot this was after using it.
the/fast fix i think does give you faster fix at the time of day you run it .I think it remembers the says in view
mine takes forever to lock on.
I tried the fasterfix on my rooted A500 and I did not notice any difference. I was in the car. looking at GPS Tools I saw ti could see 3 satellites, then 5 but would not connect.
I'll try again at some point.
My Atrix locks on FAST.
I had a Samsung Galaxy S that would not lock on either.
I hope the first update comes with a GPS fix.
Thsi isn't a deal breaker for me but more of an annoyance. I dont expect to use this in the car for GPS much if ever, but I just don't like having something that is intended to work, not work.
Well I recommended this way because maps app will lag even when you have a lock that why I use faster fix in conjunction with each other. If you have little satellites in view make sure your outside. Make sure busybox is installed and your rooted when using fasterfix and please follow
I noticed a setting in the system DB (/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db) for "agps" (apgs = 1). I discovered this when attempting to apply the change for the cell standby issue. I wonder if this was set to off if GPS would work more consistently. Reboot after the change.
The thread can be found here: /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db

Is there a data on/off scheduler for GB?

I have been using timeriffic along with APNdroid to turn my data off at night with froyo but APNdoid did not work with GB once I updated my phone to EH03 with superclean3. I download the new APNdroid 3.0 form the market and it turn data on and off but it is not compatible with timeriffic. Are there any other apps out there that can do this on GB for the fascinate? I have tried netschedule but it didn’t turn the data on and off like it should. It seems that the CDMA phones are a little different and I would appreciate any help you guys could give.
They changed the way data is turned off in Gingerbread and now even with root access is not possible. This is how I do it. Get tasker from the market, you can use tasker to switch it on/off on a schedule, among other 1000 things tasker can do.
Also get titanium backup, inside titanium you can make tasker a "system" app, once you do that tasker will be able to control the data switch. I am not sure if you need to buy titanium backup pro in order to convert apps into "system apps".
My 2 cents.

thanks for the info.
Do you have to make tasker a system app in order for it to switch data on and off? Just courious since there are free apps that say they switch data on and off by schedule but I was unable to get them to work. I wanted to know if I make them a system app if they would work as advertised. Also APNdroid and APNdroid mini are able to switch data on and off in GB through widgets but not by a time schedule. How can I tell if they are system apps?
Yes you have to make tasker a system app in order to be able to switch data. I dont know about the other apps.

I'm trying out Wireless Chief right now. According to the description it will do everything you want.
Features:
- Turn features on or off depending on screen state
- Disable wifi if no known network is available
- Change wifi scan intervals and scan attempts to save juice
- Schedule autosync and background data
- Force autosync on wifi only
- Manage radios according to battery level
- Disable push entirely

I've only had it in for a couple of hours so I can't say Yea or Nay yet.

Thanks for all the replies but I have found an easy solution. I updated APNdroid to the latest version, 3.0.15, and it works with timeriffic. I have been using timeriffic for the past year and it seems to be the easiest way for me to set up a schedule for data and volume control.

2G - 4G switch

Is there any app or widget that can automaticaly switch to 2G network when I turn off data, and automaticaly switch to 3G/4G when I trun on data ?
I've found many apps where they can switch between 2G-3G-4G but not automaticaly.
Tasker can do this.
This app might also work

That thread no longer exists. Tasker is quick and easy to do it with bro try that. Will save your manual toggle efforts as well.

Yes it does require root unfortunately, sorry for half baked info earlier. But that (rooting) seems to be the only way to get what you want and a lot more using tasker few similar apps n plugin.

I use Automagic to drive the UI to flip between 3G and 4G. Root not required for this, but screen needs to be on and the phone unlocked for it to succeed (as if you were doing it manually). My Automagic flow/script waits for the right conditions (unlocked/screen on and, for me, the phone being away from or at home) and then I see it make the change. It's better than remembering to do it manually, anyway...

My MXP only offers the user to switch between 4G and 3G - I don't know how to force it to 2G (I'm UK based)
Automagic does not seem to have a trigger to spot if you have set DATA on or off, but it DOES have an action which may work
The action Set Mobile Datanetwork State turns the mobile datanetwork on or off.
Warning: This function is not officially supported by Android and might not work on all devices.
So, if it works, you could create a shortcut of your own to toggle DATA on or off and also explicitly drive the UI to make other settings at the same time...
Automagic has a trial so you could try it. It's all based on flow diagrams which you edit to accomplish what you want, and has scripting too.
http://automagic4android.com/en/help/base-concepts
I moved to it from Llama, I couldn't get my head around Tasker, and haven't looked back. Both Dev and users are VERY responsive on the Automagic forum too
For example, here is my flow to control 3G/4G. It looks for my location set in another flow and the current network state, setting it appropriately.
http://goo.gl/iS2eBA
... and the script that drives the UI to check the radio button for 4G (if not already checked), return to what was on the screen before and set a global variable to the network type it set

Thanks mate, I'll try it and see how it works

"Features" missing from MM, after update.

I've updated from KK to MM (Note 4 f version).
I seem to have lost certain features from the "upgrade"
1. Can anyone recommend a multi window app, that wound allow me to add custom apps to the supported app list. So I can use them in multi windows?
I've used this in the past https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bjbinc.mwmphone but it says I need to be rooted. Which I am.
I don't think it's compatible with MM.
2. Is there a do not disturb mode within MM, that allows you to block mobile data between certain times?
I used to use it in KK, to block data through the night, but, MM's version just seems to block sounds etc.
3. When using KK, apps like Clean Master, used to allow me to block apps from secretly starting up and allow me to clear cache/junk.
Since updating to MM, Clean Master and other apps I've tried all fail to do either.
They appear to clear the cache/junk, but if I reboot it's still there.
(At the moment I'm using "App Settings" via Xposed to block app start ups).
4. Is there a way of unlocking the phone from off, using the fingerprint scanner?
At the moment, I have to use a password (not pattern) and then use the scanner from sleep.
The Samsung Tab S2, allows a pattern or password from off and then the scanner from sleep.
5. The handwriting to text converter in S-Note as been removed in MM.
Thanks for any help.
Reply to your 2nd question :
Download a app called 'profile scheduler +' from google playstore and install it. Edit the normal profile according to your needs. Then edit any other profile and give it DND as the name. Configure the various settings for DND profile and save it. Then create a new rule. Set the activation and deactivation time. Set the rule type as scheduler. Save it. Make sure that the new rule is prefixed with the green symbol in tasks list of the profile scheduler + app. If you like, purchase the pro version which will come without ads. It is cheaper too. Enjoy.
Reply to your 3rd question :
Download and purchase (to disable the in app ads) app cache cleaner pro app from the google playstore. Configure it so that the app which uses maximum cache space is shown first (size descending order). Just make the app to manually scan for temp / cache files.
"Go to the individual app properties in the settings --> application manager (in android 6.0.1) and tap on storage. Then choose clear cache"
Do as said (in double quotes) for each and every app.
What to do man?. Google is removing all essential features :
Android 4.3 - Access to flight mode by all third party apps is disabled
Android 4.4 and its sub versions - Write access to the memory card by all third party apps (lile x-plore, es file manager, bookmarksb pro, app backup and restore pro etc) was also blocked
Android 5.0.1 - battery draining quickly
Android 6.0.1 - Disabled all third party apps to access the bookmarks of the stock browser. Because of this, the facility to import the bookmarks (from the stock browser) to the android firefox is also missing in the firefox settings under android 6.0.

I've just tried the app, but I can't make it switch off mobile data at a scheduled time.
If I do other things within the same rule, like switch on WiFi, switch off BT and increase brightness, they all work.
So I know I've created and activated the rule.
For #1, you can use Firefds Kit xposed module.
For #4, you can use No Lock Home xposed module (but only works when connected to wifi).

I see the settings, but can't trigger to stop Mobile Data. The others, like WiFi can be triggered.
I've also installed Tasker and Secure Settings, to try and alter Mobile Data.
But, Secure Settings (which I think is needed to alter things like Mobile Data & GPS), says I need to root the device.
I think the problem with apps like Clean Master, Cache Cleaner Pro, Profile Scheduler, Tasker and Secure Settings, they all need root access to alter system permissions.
I've got root, but they aren't triggering Super SU to allow root and so those apps think I'm not rooted. And don't work properly.
Clean Master and Cache Cleaner Pro, appear to clear the cache, but they don't delete anything.
Maybe the problem of not seeing root, is something in MM or maybe it's because I'm using the latest beta version of Super SU?

I have done that.
Off = empty circle
No change = yellow circle
On = green circle
As a test, I've set Mobile Data to off and WiFi to On, within the same rule, to trigger at a set time.
When I run the test, the WiFi switches on, but there's no change with the Mobile Data.
I've a different question, if you wouldn't mind answering:
Is it possible to configure a long press of the recent apps to show the multi/split window screen, instead of the wallpaper/widgets/home screen settings screen (like when you long on the home screen)?
When I do the above on the tablet, I see the multi/split window screen.
I think mobile data is indirectly controlled by android restriction. I didn't use that restriction. If you want to cascade view a app, just rub the display with a single finger from top right to the bottom left.

You may have to root via system-mode rooting not system-less rooting. Some apps like Tasker's Secure Settings doesn't work with system-less rooting.
There are SuperSu versions that uses system-mode rooting. But you also need a permissive kernel like Xceed and H-Vitamin in order to properly install the system-mode rooting.
But I think even after successfully rooting your device, third party apps cannot still turn off the mobile data. You can only put it to airplane mode at specified times to disable mobile data.
