Remove stock DVP APN - Venue Pro General

Is there any way to delete the APN that came with the DVP? Even though I can add a new APN, I don’t want any records of the stock APN that came with the phone. I want to erase it completely!

I read someplace....Twitter...Facebook?? MS Answers....sorry I don't remember exactly, but the APN is locked in, per OEM/Mobile Operator. I heard that an unlocked phone will require the equiv of a Connection Setup to set all settings. You can manually enter an APN into the device...well ...some devices....but still not have the MMS or SMS settings. I know the HTC devices come with a connection setup, but the Samsung and LGE devices do not. I guess the Dell does not either. So running any of those phones unlocked on a different Network....may cause some problems with the extended services.

With the stock APN, i believe tmobile can detect if you're abusing their grandfather data plan.
What do you think?
Lets get rid of that stock APN.!

Sprint Touch (To cricket then android)

I have a chance to get a touch for 40$ which is a good deal right?
Also can I flash it to cricket and internet and all will work and after I flash it I could put android on it correct?
I could easily find out how to flash to cricket by reading but am confused by the android part isnt it flashing a new rom so I couldnt connect to cricket? Thanks will be back tonight to reply so leave as many suggestions as possible
Thank You all
no flashed rom needed for android
after you have flashed you touch to what ever rom works for you. there will no need to flash it for android because android as it is will not replace windows. andriod runs off of the sd card. just read forum for android on the touch it should any question you have.

with Android running off the MicroSD, texting works only partially (Sprint/Verizon texts give "bad SMS encoding" errors) and web not at all due to Cricket's dumb proxy settings
this is the case with the XV6800, and i am sure the Touch will have the same dilemma

Can you make calls or not?
If you can't call or recv is your ESN in the cricket system.
Did this just start happening?
If you can not make calls but can recv calls go to EPST setting/CDMA setting and change the following..
EVRC enable = enable
and the three below it change to EVRC
make sure you have cricket PRL
HOME SID/NID are correct
ESN matches cricket system
MDN/MIN are correct
Everything works fine now, call and text. However mobile web is still a no go. In the new Ion build there is no APN settings program, just APN under settings for the android. When I add my user name and password to my current APN it still wont log on.

Web works on mine. reset your modem settings using the modem icon. You may have to dl a new modem app though.
The APN settings should be the same as the settings you used on the window mobile settings, wap.mycricket.com port 8080 etc etc.
How do you change the modem settings? Ive entered all the information in APN like user name, password, por,t proxy, is there anything else you said..... meaning theres more?

So what are the correct APN setting to make these cupcake builds work on Cricket???
actually at this time i have no idea if it works or not as they removed the ppp.username ppp.password from teh default.txt and from then on it seemed to have killed the data connection.
All i did was go into the wireless networks settings, or APN settings in wireless settings and modify teh defulat. I changed all the settings that you would in WinMo and left the rest as they were and it all worked. Currently trying to download a new system image file so I can test it.

The HTML data plan is a good work around but is not a 100% sure fix because in different markets it also works through the Simple IP. There are other work arounds like the broadband hack. But that requires a broadband number.
I know this is a bit old but has anything changed here to make Android market/data work on cricket data plan? I am still confused as to what settings in android to make (followed all of whitey's instructions for cricket)

HD2 Android disabling data but not MMS

Hello, i'm new to the forums. This is my first post but i've been reserching all over and cannot find a solution to this question I have...
I've been considering buying a HTC HD2 from my friend and unlocking it to use with my AT&T sim card (the phone is currently locked to T-Mobile).
After I unlock it I am planning on installing Android 2.2 onto the HTC. My current phone is a Samsung Solstice from AT&T. I have unlimited SMS/MMS but I don't have a data plan. I was wondering once i get the HD2, unlock it, then install Android 2.2 on it, if I can disable data but I've heard if u disable data then Multimedia Messaging (MMS) doesn't work... (I cant afford a data plan and wont need to browse the web away from wifi so i'm fine without data plan.) I would REALLY like to keep MMS working fine but without using data. is there anyway i can enable MMS and not data? I would call AT&T and asked them to block all data access except MMS but i'm afraid if i tell them that i'm using a HD2 (smart phone) they'll force me to pay for data and that would not be good. can someone please help me disable/block data but continue using MMS, all help/advice is appreciated, thanks in advanced
plzzzz i would really like to know this
BUMP
As my understanding, data is use when sending and receiving mms, but you are not charged for the data because you have sms/mms plan, maybe there is limit how many kb per message, if you over that they may charge you the extra.
I'm not sure about ATT, but Tmobile if I accidently go to internet, they tell me that I don't have data plan, and ask if I want the data or something...., I just click cancel, I never been charged for the data.
I am using the HD2 on ATT, I can tell you for a fact there is no way to block data and allow MMS, MMS uses data to send picture and video msgs. Calling ATT will not help either. As long as you have not upgraded your phone thru them they cannot force you to get a data plan, if they attempt to, you can tell them you want to be put on a pay per use, if they say no, demand a supervisor explain you have a wifi and you dont want the plan, a little pushing will get you want you want.
Also ATT cannot block data and not MMS from their end either, just not possible.
Go into apn settings. If you have only one for data and mms, then edit it, and right at the end "apn type" probably says "default " or perhaps "*" or maybe "default, supl, mms "
Change that to say just "mms"
If you have two entries one will be for default, supl and will have a on off toggle, the second will be for mms and won't have a toggle. Just toggle off the data one or edit out the default in apn type.

Hi Sam, just found you on here ad wanted to say thank you so much for the Nand Android flash, its like having a new phone, I owe you a few pints. Ian, Stev's ffriend.

now rooted?? any way to disable data

now that my phone is running CM7...
is there any way to disable data but still be able to send/receive mms?
prior to flashing to CM7, when i was on stock 2.3.4, i was able to get it to where "data" is always on but only to receive mms.. apps like foursquare, fb, etc didnt work. never started using data when i went out of wifi.. bad part about this was i couldnt send mms.. all i remember doing was disabling data in the hidden menu, and changing the APN.. iirc, the "spot where it says "data enabled", that was checked..
now that i have flashed to cm7, i disabled data in the hidden menu, changed the APN, but it still uses data for everything like foursquare, fb, etc once i have data turned on in settings, everything goes on data and starts using it.. foursquare gets updates, etc.. yah i can send and receive mms too but what the heck happened D:
so now im on CM7, is tehre something that can disable data without disabling mms? i understand some people say u need data to send n receive mms but eh
using T-mobile with no data plan.
tried finding that data toggle widget someone had suggested in the past but cant find it.
-------------------
tried disabling data on *#*#4636#*#*, none of the APN's worked.... couldnt get mms or go online
after enabling data... apn's grabbed data.. D:
so back to using the mms.voicestream.com one... and just having data disabled for now... enabling it when i see a mms coming in...
unless u guys have better ideas
Have you tried using a firewall?
You don't need a data plan to send/received MMS.
You do need to have the correct APN setup.
Name: MMS
APN: epc.tmobile.com
MMSC:http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC:310
MNC:260
APN type:mms
everything else blank (not set).
is that the only apn i put in there or which ones do i have in there ?
hmm looks like it may be working.. no internet access.. can receive mms... no response on sending yet.

That's good. Also if you haven't done it.
Go into the stock messaging app.
Settings>Custom User-Agent>Chose Custom>Android-Mms/2.0
or chose Nokia N95
this way your incoming MMS doesn't get resize to thumbnail size
good to know ! dunoe what most of these customization stuff does on cm7 ahhahaha anything else ud like to suggest? (even if it doesnt pertain to messaging) xD

Simple Mobile APN help with Focus

So I ported over my number from AT&T to Simplemobile for the 40 dollar monthly unlimited everything plan. I have everything working except data. I keep trying to change the APN but it's not working. Does anybody know exactly what settings I need to get data to work on the Samsung Focus? My phone is unlocked by the way. Thanks!

What exactly have you tried so far?
Thanks for the reply! Well I've tried using the Samsung Network Profile app, tried changing the APN by naming the APN "simple." I've also tried using the names simplemobile, Simple Mobile, but anyways its not working. Supposedly simple is supposed to work for the HD7, but it's not working for the focus

I wonder...
Do this: delete all APN you have manually entered.
Change the radio to World instead of North America in Settings/Applications/radio
Then, switch the profile to AT&T from Network profile, reset, then switch back to Simplemobile and reset again.
I hope this does the trick, if it doesn't you would need specific information from Simplemobile...
Type simple in both username and password. I figured it out by chance.
Thanks for the help, can you tell me exactly how you have your focus setup? I'm trying what you said and it isn't working. Do you have the samsung network app installed?
goto the APN settings..
under APN name use value " WWW" thats it.. save it.. restart the phone (if required).
So mine stopped working as well. I have an old Tmobile Dash and it works through that. I do have the Network profile installed as well as the Samsung tools. My focus is totally unlocked, but right now it makes no difference.
So, I deleted the APN and started from scratch. Network settings installed as well as Samsung tools with the 3G marker checked. Even though the 3G cannot work on Tmobile, when I enabled it and then typed in simple for APN, it works.
Hope this helps.
Please Help
Hey can you guys please explain how you got the data and MMS to work on your simple mobile unlocked Focus. I have the Network profile App, but cant find the Samsung tools app on the market place.
Also, what goes into the APN settings (Proxy server, username, etc)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
if in the us your apn (att) would be
APN = wap.cingular
USER NAME = [email protected]
PASSWORD = cingular1
I think that I have internet working on my Samsung Focus on Simple Mobile. I say 'think', because often when I try to open a website I am taken to the url androidapi.t-mobile.com/apppack/mvno.html which displays a 503 error. I tested just now by turning off wi-fi, trying to open a web page over and over again. I got this URL and 503 error a few times and then a web page finally loaded. It's not terribly useful, but it occasionally works - so I'm assuming this is more a problem with the connection than with the settings. Sometimes the cell indicator flips between an E and a G. I don't know what the G means, it's not documented that I could find.
I cannot get MMS to work, and based on my research and some others have said this too, it cannot be made to work. Samsung has an app called "Network Profile" that will change the MMS settings for the Focus, but there is no option for Simple Mobile. Until Samsung updates the app for Simple Mobile, we are out of luck.
The settings I use to get data/internet to work on my Focus are:
Under: Settings - Cellular
Data connection: On
Data roaming options: Don't Roam
Network selection: Automatic
Edit/Create APN
APN: simple
User name: [blank]
Password: [blank]
Proxy server/URL: 216.155.165.50
Proxy port: 8080
Windows Phone 7 & Simple Mobile & Internet
The thing I think that is left out of most of the instructions is to go to the secret menu by going to the dialer and entering ##634# and then go to MMS and change the apn there to simple.
Now my Dell Venue Pro is on Simple Mobile and the Internet finally works!
How did you change you MMS settings in diagnostic mode? I can only see the code but cannot find a code to edit the mms or data settings.
I am still stuck even after adding simple apn

The reason most people leave that step out is because it is not a step they can follow. The original question was about the Focus, and the Focus doesn't let users specify the MMS settings. From what I've read, only the Dell Venue Pro gives users direct access to the MMS settings. Which is why it's the only WP7 phone that Simple Mobile officially supports for MMS.
Samsung has a network app for the Focus that allows you to pick a carrier and then it changes the settings as appropriate. Unfortunately, it doesn't support many carriers.
I'm considering making the switch to TMobile prepaid - TMobile shows up in the nework app along with AT&T and so should be supported.
UPDATE: Switched to TMobile. Using the "Network Profile" app set to automatic network profile changing = On and Active Profile = T-Moile USA, I received MMS messages right away. Will do internet testing later. For 10 bucks less a month I would've preferred to stay with Simple Mobile, but since Microsoft / Samsung lock the MMS settings down & Samsung hasn't updated their Network Profile app to support more carriers, I had to make the switch. Glad at least the mms piece is working.
I was able to successfully use both 3G data AND send/receive MMS with the following settings:
APN: simple
MMS:
MMS APC: simple
MMSC: h77p://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapeng (Replace sevens with "t"; new user controls...)
AUTH TYPE: None
All other fields are to be left blank.
As mentioned, these settings worked for me marvelously. ...For roughly ten minutes. Then the phone wouldn't wake up, I had to do a battery pull, and mms stopped working. When I go to check the mms settings in EM, it holds onto every value (including blank ones) save for the following:
MMS PORT: (blank)
AUTH TYPE: "None"
Whenever I select "Apply" to save settings, it always force resets those two values to the following:
MMS PORT: 80
AUTH TYPE: "PAP"
Hopefully this is all easy to understand. I've tried at length to search both xda and the world-wide-webz for an answer, but I'm coming up blank. I've always been able to figure this junk out for myself, but this is my first WP7 device, and I'm all kinds of 'tarded with it, haha.
You might want to enable the automatic sim settings. This setting is off by default due to samsung. I think the reason is to keep people on the same carrier that the phone was originally intended for use ie. samsung focus Att
1. Bring up diagnotics app ##634#
2. open diagnostics app located in your apps list (swipe left from start screen)
3. in the diagnostic app type 40*047#3
4. there will be a confimation prompt to confirm autosim detection
5. then the phone will restart and you should have MMS and cellular functionality and internet
This has helped my samsung focus from dropping in and out of my 3g connection...wonderful ...hope this works for you and confirm if it does work please.
I take no credit for this method and here is the original post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241721
I got mine working without mms. Jailbroke the phone and followed the steps to enable internet connection sharing... that added samsung tools. I don't know what in the end made the difference but I was able to use network profile to tmobile and then add apn simple and it worked.
Since then I moved to straight talk .. att.mvno worked for them for apn but still no mms.

You may need to flash another unbrand firmware to bypass it.

Yeah, I've contacted both Verizon and Samsung and Samsung rep told me that they blocked the ability to change APN. The setting that I have now is the default one and can be changed by Samsung (or custom ROM).
Trying to get in touch with Google if they have plans to override firmware APN since they have APN configuration option in hangouts.

1- apn-conf.xml is a file used for auto configuration at the initial step. It will NOT actually affect your current APN settings.
2- Typically you should not manually modify the MCC-MNC parameter. If you want to do so, you need enter the proper value. To obtain the right MCC-MNC value for your network, install Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app, scroll down to the MISC INFO section and see "Mobile Network Code" info.
