Is there a way to bypass Motoblur on this phone? - Bravo General

I have tried many online method such as Fn E Fn E B L U R O F F, but it just doesn't work.
I really do not need "social Networking", "CasheService", "SimSwapHandlerSerice","WeatherService", "NewsRetrievalService", so on and so forth keep running on my background. ( yes, I have installed many different AppKill software, but whenever I got on Web, those service just keep coming back )
If there is a retail non-U.S. SBF, I will flash it in a heartbeat, but until then....
tks,

there really isn't a way. I installed Launcher Pro, which pretty much gets rid of blur visually...

tks... but "visually" doesn't really help.
I mean, I can remove all Motoblur widget off the "desktop" even without Launcher Pro, but it will still run under the background, such as CasheService/ SimSwapHandlerService and bunch of weather/ news/ social thingy.
I could delete some Blur via Titanium Backup, but, I will be facing more trouble to "reinstall" back when factory reset.

They don't make the phone any slower, I don't really see what the problem is. All of the customized manufacturer phones have this stuff. Touchwiz, Sense, they all have their information aggregation widgets. Task killers aren't going to do anything but kill your battery from constantly trying to kill those services. If you want to get rid of it, get people here to get use a stock rom of 2.2 or 2.3.

Actually, it does cause bit of lag while scroll through selections.
I have 2 cliq, one on T-mobile ( that force to register ) and one w/ European firmware ( one can bypass ) and it is indeed causing bit of lag.
* try to scroll your "running services", if you have chance.
Well, since we are talking about Bravo here. I'd happy to point out the news/weather/socialstatus is on constant sync. ( Only way is to kill it via titanium backup. "Task Killers" wouldn't work )
Oh, Motoblur will kidnapped your contact as well. There is no way to store it on the phone. (even I killed all ATT app)
I am not trying to be difficult on Motoblur, I just thought, it is only fair that the U.S. model should let user choose what they want. ( isn't it the idea of been American? LOL )

I seen one similar to what you described, but you have to fastboot then select boot no bp first, then menu hold menu for keyboard, ?123 key, alt, abc key, E, repeat all again, then type bluroff
I couldn't post link to youtube video, but you can search title "Motorola ATRIX 4G (Motoblur Bypass)"

eebluroffee on first screen on first boot. Works. I do it every sbf flash. There's also a line in build.prop to disable some blur. Will post it later when I remember it.
Add on only this lines to your build.prop
ro.mot.deblur=true
ro.mot.setuptype=2
data/cache wipe your rom and .... --> no more Motoblur-Account
Other than that, for a blurless rom, either port over a deblured Defy Nordic rom, or just use any other rom available for the Bravo. Any are much better than stock. I recommend CM7 or MIUI for stability, but CM9 is working great now and only has a few minor issues. There really is no point in using the stock rom anymore --> Really outdated, slow, odexed, and a ton of inbuilt apps that depend on each other. If you do like stock, then try BravoX. Its the closest thing to a deblured stock rom that we have.

Came across this earlier. Haven't dl'd or looked at it, but it looks like a good deblur solution.

Is This true.....?

So I've been hearing a lot of talk about a spanish dev that dropped a rom on these forums that is faster than Super D, FastTEst, Cyan, all the eclairs and Stock roms,.....basically, top of the line and untouchable.
wow....
It is referred to as "SuperCSDIV4" anyone heard of it?
Haven't flashed myself yet, thought I'd get a few more opinions before doing so,
is this true?
Just installed this and did a titanium restore and excuse the language but Holy **** this rom flies!!!
I never thought i'd see the day a rom could get me off SuperD but well all I can say is 'Super who?'
Supsetup is an amazing feature here and has full swap/swappiness controls that work. Compcache is available through spare parts (currently not working) not that either are required. When you first start there is a lot of spanish things such as the widgets an has a spanish metamorph but titanium restore took care of that, even restoring my apn settings for me. the speed of the app draw is scary and somehow advanced launcher is built into the home itself. Also this has NO ramhack on it so 3d gaming is fast and furious if your into that. going to install beholdII 3D cube as well to see how it runs as it was slow and sluggish on SuperD and will update when I have more news.
All I can say is welcome to the future of the G1!
SuperD just lost its crown!

Everything seems to be working but the keyboard ALT symbols are different
on the keyboard, bluetooth, wifi, 3g, messaging, everything really! No force closures or problems, sometimes can stutter a little going to home but other than that this thing really is amazing. Had me up all night playing on it. I feel if compcache was working this would solve the stutter problem but still playing with settings.
Will update more as I play.
Okay fixed the keyboard layout, wasn't to hard to figure out and now have full UK qwerty keyboard with the correct ALT character set, anyone needs it I'll post a tutorial.
Also Fix_Permissions is a MUST! I was having a few issuse installing third party apps at first but this is now working thanks to the script.
I've found it best to keep home apps out of memory (spare parts) still working on the compcache problem but hoping to have that fixed soon.

Me? Good? Don't you read my posts!
There is blue something that is based off this, gonna do a comparison once finished tweaking.
Also found to cut the home screen lag enable swap with 30 swapiness.
Once I have all the kinks worked out I'll learn about how to pack it all up for people to download
Will be a private link as its not my rom so won't be posting in developement.

EDIT: by the way you're right, this rom is smoking fast! Twice as fast as super d, if I get the internet working, Im sticking with this rom for a while!

[Q] Change Launcher?

Hi guys, the flipout is now very cheap indeed in the UK (it's around £50 with Orange PAYG). I managed to lose my previous phone under a train and so I've been looking at this.
Is it worth picking up this phone? I gather from looking at the posts that it can be unlocked and rooted.
Some (noob) questions:
1) Can the phone be unlocked for free? Can it be done by debranding it?
2) Can you install a different launcher? A search on the forum doesn't say anything about changing the launcher.
3) Can you get rid of Motoblur? i've never used it but it sounds ****.
Thanks in advance guys
1. dont know!
2. Launcher Pro is very nice. many thinks can be changed and its very fast!
3. dont try the motoblur free versions of the flipout..there are many bugs with connection and akku standby! i have the italian rom installed with the update of 1.19.2 and i ignored motoblur. i have deleted all widget with motoblur and use the widget of the launcher pro which can also connect to facebook, twitter...and in my opinion your contacts will be clean..if you use motoblur it will add facevook contacts to your normal conntacts...
Yeah, LauncherPro and ADW work perfectly for me, just make sure to delete all of Motoblur's widgets and ****. Juicedefender Ultimate helps as well, for saving battery.
I got some issue with Launch pro.
When I press home button to return from some apps, the screen turn black and the status bar rotate to the side of the screen, and after probably 300ms, it turns back.
Not a big issue, but pretty annoy. Using ADW launcher without any issue. Much smoother than the stock launcher.
I'm back to the stock Launcher. My problem was that with any other Launcher, from time to time a process called "android.process.acore" would start eating cpu.

Could you explain a bit more? What are the problems? I have the moto free firmware installed. Problems I heard about are
1. something about not using all channels, which can be solved by modifying a file on /system/etc
2. Whenever you install a new firmware, the battery meter gets out of sync and need to be reset. There is an app on the market for doing that.
Are these the problems you are referring to, or are there others?
Thanks!
@ ghostwheel
ya, these are the problems! and you´re right..it can be fixed. i only wanted to say that you can use the original firmeware without motoblur by ignoring it. so you dont have to fix anything and you can use the 1.19.2 update. sry for my bad english =/

What would you want in a custom ROM?

So, now we have the possibility to have custom ROMs, flasheable with CWM. THere are already two guys who have put effort out there, and maybe they'd want some ideas on what you people would like. What do you consider that should be in your custom ROM of choice?
Myself, I would love a Reboot and Screenshot option in the power off menu.
Maybe a minimalist version of 2.3?
I want the touchpads to be able to contol the system/launcher, like the D-Pad cans.
Great question.
I already have reboot options in the power menu of my ROM. Taking a serious look at the Screenshot option. Not many ROMs appear to have it though, but I'm going to give it a shot.
Landscape mode for the launcher would be awesome. I know you can use a custom launcher, but I really like the one that comes with the phone

there was a guy who edited the HomeAPK and made it 3 screens landscape
you can edit the Home through comp. to make it more
The stock launcher, at least in the last build, does have landscape support

USB OTG would be nice, though that would take some work to do since the stock SE kernel for our play do not support it

1) Auto Brigtness disable
2) Overclock
3) Use the touchpad as a touchscreen emulator (eg swiping on the touchpad is the same as swiping on the screen, great for browsing without touching the screen)
4) Enable the FM radio

+1 for this. The only thing I liked about the Verizon Play is that it's basically running stock gingerbread. Currently, I'm using my custom "hybrid" of r800i rom mixed with r800x launcher/apps. The upside is that I removed all the sony junk and replaced it with stock android apps (dialer, calendar, contacts, etc) while keeping stuff like working touchpad (which failed me in cyanogenmod) and playstation pocket. The downside is that I can't replace the sony lockscreen and statusbar with the stock one. For now, I'm just using widgetlock to emulate it.
If someone can get a working stock gingerbread rom with NOTHING extra (not even hidden SE apps and services), but still have working playstation pocket and touchpads/xperia optimized apps. I will use it.
AndroHero's ROM is certainly in that path.
But really... the stock GB Launcher too? It couldn't be more spartan if it tried...
I took a good run at adding a Screenshot menu item to the power menu but haven't been successful yet. Ends up crashing on boot, unfortunately, so I'm doing something wrong. Not giving up yet though. Decompiling JARs and trying to understand it all is a huge pain in the ass.
I've got reboot options already though along with the ability to overclock and undervolt.
I was looking towards pretty much going as stock Android as possible, but I wasn't sure anyone would want it.
need a 3g and wifi transfer rate in status bar, to make sure all the things running at the background and another app like fpse or psx4droid just for play ,bcz this is xperia play

I can't get reboot in power menu working. Well i can get it to work, but then the power off option reboots the device too
There's also the issue with Recovery just rebooting and not directly starting recovery yet. I'll take a look at what Power off is doing on mine as well.
Power Off seems to work fine for me. Are you maybe running it with the USB cable plugged in?

TouchWiz 4.0 app icons and folders problem (video included)

Hi,
I don't know if someone else found this problem. I made a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RS9j4uiTDaE. It's also in FullHD.
And wrote a post in my blog in my native language, spanish: http://retreteinformatico.blogspot.com/2012/01/touchwiz-40-y-problemas-con-la.html
The video description is english. I'll also explain the problem here:
Simply put, TouchWiz does not save the icons in the place where I leave them. At first I organized all of them in two screens: one with folders and the other with most frequently used icons. After doing a power on-off cycle the icons are all scattered without alphabetical order in three screens instead of two. The folders maintain their ordering and screen. An icon (AllShare) is put between two folders and the other icons are divided in two screens, disordered, not alphabetical.
In the video you'll see first what I found after the icon position screwing. Then I get three or four apps out of their folder (Google Talk, Gmail, Maps, Market) and put them with the rest of the icons and the AllShare app is put with the rest, out of the screen with the folders. Then I power off the phone and turn it on again to find that GTalk, Maps, Market and AllShare are out of their place.
After that, I put the icons more or less where I want to put them (in two screens) and I do again a power cycle to show how did TouchWiz screw my icon organization.
I'm using Android 2.3.4 XWIK4 with baseband XXKI1.
If someone is able to reproduce the problem just tell it. Maybe touchwizh has problems if you put in folders the Samsung apps (Hubs and more), I don't know, but it's a big problem.
Folder/Icon rearrangement is a known problem with TouchWiz since day 1 when SGS2 got released.
Best way to get around is to use AppSorter and sort your App Drawer everytime you create a folder.
Posting problems about 2.3.4 when everyone else is on 2.3.6 = VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS!
Update your phone and test it and give feedback!
Hmmm, I didn't know. How comes that Samsung hasn't fixed this in 8 monts?

Love the name of your blog: informatic toilet (retrete informatico) ahahah
Anyway: They suck on fixing bugs.. if we users and devs cant fix'em we are screwed lol
Also, why any reviewer spoted this problem? Add to this the Fujitsu camera module problem and you get the idea that QA on Samsung is really poor. Just remember the GPS problem on Samsung Galaxy S1.

I read your first post about upgrading to 2.3.6. Well, if I just use the default Samsung support, I'm stuck to 2.3.4, as my phone is Austrian version and Samsung didn't release nothing newer than 2.3.4 for those phones.
So Samsung sucks big as a company and client support.
Of course if I start to root the phone and installing custom ROMs the problem would disappear, but flashing your phone and breaking your warranty is not something the user should do for something that's supposed to work from the beginning. Different thing is if the user wants extra functionality, but this is not the case.
So, all in all, I'll wait until ICS gets released and after that if it doesn't convince me, I'll root and who know if I flash a custom ROM.
I had that trouble before where one app ended up going to the next page and kept going back there. I think simply restoring the order, going to TwLauncher in the application list and then force stopping should make it remember the order you gave it once you go back.

If I force stop TwLauncher the apps are again "out of control" :-/
I'll try to clear the cache although I'm reluctant because I'll need to recreate all folders again
I have partially solved the problem by clearing the cache of TouchWiz launcher.
Now the SIM service app keeps going back to the same place out of its folder, but I refuse to clear again the cache and organize all my apps. Maybe it's because the SIM service app is something variable. If I kill touchwiz process that app appears inside it's folder (once the cache corruption is solved), but if I turn off the phone and turn on again, the SIM app appears out of the folder.
This is crap.
Well, know what? I've installed some applications at one time, all from Samsung Apps, and after rebooting the phone all my folders are empty and the apps inside them are all spread across 6 screens instead the 2 screens I managed to sort. The apps and folders have lost the position I assigned to them.
Now I have a bunch of icons in random order and I don't want to organize again 6x8 = 48 icons plus the home screens which would turn to default state after clearing the cache of the touchwiz manager.
It's very annoying and unusable. I want to throw the phone through the window.
What I can't understand is how this bug has been happening since launch date and Samsung hasn't been able to solve it. My only hope is the ICS update and I don't have much confidence on it. Probably I'll have to flash a custom ROM and then try to get some Samsung software on it.
The free games offer is very good
PS: Well, maybe it has some explanation->Samsung's poor software development quality assurance. Camera's firmware also suffer from it.

With all due respect, and not aiming to sound rood to you, with that mentality (it should work fine out of the box and I don't care if somewhere else there's a newer version...) you shouldn't be posting on XDA because people we'll obviously tell you to upgrade to the latest version, whether it's from a different operator/country (legit) or simply a leak.
You can't expect people here to act like the only way to use the phone is by following what Samsung/your operator is dictating you. We all know and have long ago agreed that operators and manufacturers are lazy when it comes to QA, and that's why a place like XDA exists

The camera firmware bug affects to all people, doesn't matter if you have stock Android or custom ROM. So we're all in the same bag. And this is Galaxy S II General forum, so I post this here because norms allow it.
Anyways, thanks for your reading.
Actually clearing the cache helped! Ever since I updated to 2.3.6 I have had this problem but after clearing the cache it has been resolved. But initially after the update the folders did remember for a couple of days after which the problem started for me. But for now clearing the cache worked well.
Hello, did u guys already tried Menu>Save in app drawer after modifying/rearranging apps/folder?

[Guide] Newbie to Epic 4G Cyanogen - Common problems solved

Hello,
I am writing this to help other newbies who may want to switch to Cyanogen for the first time on their Epic 4G. There were a few things I needed to do after to get everything working the way I liked and I figure this will save some people time.
What do I need to do prior?
There are many how-to's which will help but I had my Epic stock rom rooted so it was as simple as flashing cyanogen through recovery. Here is the link for a "how-to" root the stock rom if you wish to do it this way. It was the easiest way for me though the official guide says "Rooting the stock firmware is neither recommended nor necessary."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9eaCtiS0Bo
Where do I get Cyanogen?:
You can download it here. I am running the 10.0.0 stable build.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Epicmtd_Info
I have no google apps:
This is a problem with any Cyanogen installation. Easy fix, download & install the gaaps package from the link below and your marketplace will be back.
http://goo.im/gapps
I don’t have Navigation:
Easy fix again, download the google maps app. Here is the app store link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DMsImNvbS5nb29nbGUuYW5kcm9pZC5hcHBzLm1hcHMiXQ..
I don’t have voicemail:
While you can use any voicemail app I wanted the one I had on the stock rom. I linked the app below and your voicemail will be back as soon as you install it. You need to open the app after so that it will activate.
https://od.lk/d/MjRfMjc2MDY5MF8/vtt-sprint.apk
I am getting texts from 9016 every time I get a voicemail:
From reading it seems the stock rom blocks us from seeing these but they are in fact needed for voicemail to work. To fix this I used a free app called “RedList”. Simply add 9016 to the RedList within the app, change the settings to disable both notifications, and this will problem will be solved. Here is the app store link.

Text messages no longer have separate colors for me and my recipient:
The stock android text display is white and I hated this after getting used to Samsung’s nice colors but luckily you can solve this in two ways.
(One) A theme manager is built into the interface section of your settings page. After searching through almost every free CM10 theme I found this one I liked. It does NOT touch too many things only adding a brushed metal look and displaying text messages how I wanted them. There are a few colors to choose from but I went with Blue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992980
(Two) Replace only the MMS app with one that is color coded. Please note that unlike the above, to reverse this down the road you will need to find a stock mms app package with an installer. This is good for people who are sure they want this and only wish to change the colors of the messenger, while the above is good for people who like to switch themes often being able to revert back at any second. Link for the colored mms app.

Facebook pictures no longer sync with my existing contacts:
This is a small problem, but still one that I got used to having with the stock rom and wanted to correct. From reading this seems to be a problem related to later Android versions, not just Cyanogen. The fix for this is easy as well, search out a free app called “UberSync for Facebook”. I had the regular facebook app installed & logged in prior and UberSync logged right in, got the pictures, and updated my contacts.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsInJvLndlZWRuZXQuY29udGFjdHNzeW5jIl0.
I no longer have Swype:
Despite having the nice physical keyboard (the whole reason I got the Epic) I still got used to using Swype here or there. I don't think I will be allowed to link this file here but you can find it on "certain" sites.
Notes:
Despite reports that Bluetooth can be problematic, I use it daily with an earpiece and have yet to experience any issues. GPS & 4G also work great. If any links are broken send me a PM! I check my email daily.
Get rid of the dropbox download links. Those are absolutely horrible when posting a guide for others to use.

Why are they so bad? The bring you right to the download and I won't be deleting these files from my dropbox. Much better IMO than dealing with one of those sites where you have to wait 45 seconds for a download link to appear in a sea of other spam download buttons.

Well...
No MD5/SHA1 to compare against to make sure you have a complete download.
People's dropbox tends to get too much traffic and the link becomes dead.
You basically cut out the original author(s) of the file.
Based off # 3: They could need the ad revenue, and/or want to track download activity if they're self-hosting.

I know this isn't directed at me, but the things I have on my box account are older things( Samsung Moment update tool), things I've done for myself, or things that I've found for other people. In other words, things many people don't care about.

#1 - I think more people are concerned with a working link, if they download the archive after and it somehow gets corrupted i'm sure they will just try again
#2 - Valid point though my files don't have a great enough of demand to warrant this. If this changes I will change my links.
#3 The only thing that wasn't mine with a dropbox link was the MMS app and I only mirrored it in case the original link were ever taken down. If it will make you happy I can include the original link as well. For the voice mail app, its simply the sprint one ripped from a stock rom.
Though your points are valid, I think you are sort of just being picky bud
Thanks for the VM download link. Only thing I want is task manager which I had installed on CM9. Is there stockish one that works for 10?
Try the flashable one from here

swype
I reinstalled swype 3 or 4 times with various upgrades and it would always "expire" and I'd have to figure out how to get it working again. I am running 10.1 RC5 now and it has a decent generic swype-ish virtual keyboard. The thing missing is that you can't finish your text and go back and fix any misspelled words by touching alternate suggestions. You have to catch them as they come up. It seems like at first I could still do that, but I can't figure out how to get the suggestions to come back up.
I'm over swype.
Just flashed CyanogenMod 10.1... is there any built in overclocking?
I installed SetCPU and it won't step above 1000 MHz.

You need a different Kernel. I have been using didy's kernel for a while. You flash CM10.1 and then you flash the kernel. CM10.1 has its own kernel that overwrites what you flash. So when you update, i think you have to reflash the kernel. I haven't screwed around with it since I installed rc5. I think I did CM, then the kernel, then the big mem patch. I never was able to figure out how to update the radio. I always ended up with "no voice service" or worse.
There is a thread in the developer forum that has the links to the kernel downloads. I am running one from may 30 and haven't updated.

I think I found it... Is didy the same as didhiy?
[KERNEL][CM10.1]Nitest Kernel for Crespo4G/Epic4G Modem with Voodoo Sound&Color
When you say you couldn't update the radio, you just mean the cell service radio, right? Not wifi? I don't have cell service on my Epic, so that wouldn't be a problem for me... just as long as the wifi radio still works
Also, what specifically do you mean by "or worse"?

Yeah. That's the one. I looked at my about phone and it said "didy".
I saw a thread about the nexus radio being hot **** and I fooled around with it. I got either "no voice service" or no nuthin. I was able to flash back to the regular epic radio. there is another thread that had all the flashable zips with different modems. luckily the epic one undid my stupidity - at least on my phone.

Thanks man, I'll give it a shot. CM10.1 is running pretty smoothly on my phone, but it could be better and battery life is not an issue for me.
I'll be sure to run backups before I do though :good:
Thanks
These tips helped - I just made the jump to CM 10.1, and although there are a few quirks it has been great. Your list really helped.
FYI, one thing I ran into was the auto-rotate didn't work. I followed the directions here:
http://epiccm.blogspot.com/2012/01/boot-el30-stock-from-sdcard.html
the first time, there was no change. I tried again (and calibrated like 6 times) and it worked.
Has anyone noticed the physical keyboard doesn't always work the same? In some places, you have to hold down shift or Fn while pressing the key you want (for example - hold shift while pressing A, rather then pressing shift then pressing A). It's not consistent - some inputs work like the keyboard did before. Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this. Not the worst thing (I'm just glad I still have a physical keyboard), but I would prefer it work the way it did before, or if that's not possible, at least be consistent.
And the smiley face button on the physical keyboard doesn't work either. I mean, it's like 2005 where I have to type out my 's!!
any phantom voicemail fix?
phantom voicemails?

I have noticed that the physical keyboard doesn't work right in the browser. Shift and Fn don't seem to work. I am usually in such a hurry that I just close it up and use the virtual keyboard if I want to have punctuation. It honestly didn't occur to me that it might be fixed. I can't offer that fix. I am just offering emotional support and validation.:good:

I noticed that the default browser you have to hold the shift or fn key while pressing the desired key to get it to work. Apps and os seem to work with a tap od these keys and then a hit of the desired key.I recall a while back a thread about the smiley and since it was not a default key the consensus was that they would not be adding the functionality to cm. While on the topic...same goes with the .com function.
