[Q] Clockwork Recovery - Intercept General

any chances of us getting it?

Contact KOUSH from the forums here. He made it and ported it to the galaxy s phones so he might be able to help..
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

so after getting in the irc room for koush i was directed to http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/10/porting-clockwork-recovery-to-new.html
i must say that his blog is very appropraitely named.
I'm trying to get my ubuntu box setup to do the stuff he's asking but my phone isn't here yet it's in the mail. (i'm hoping this one has a clean esn.............)
i do however have my Sylvania Tablet that i would love a custom recovery for and am a little lost on the guide as well. I'm completely new to any kind of android dev work at all. and have very little programming background.
I'm enough of a nerd though that i feel i should be able to tackle anything i set my mind to. so when my interecept gets here tomorrow i'll be headed down this road and seeing where i end up.

I have tried Rom Manager, and there is no Clockwork option for the intercept in it.

CM01 Custom Recovery
CM01 Custom Recovery by Inxane works well for our Intercepts.

ClockworkMod Recovery and Modaco's "Paul's Rom

Has anybody TRY flashing Modaco's "Paul's Rom" after ClockworkMod Recovery ? Do we have a green light to do so, or should we wait for further instructions ?
Thank you all.
I am not sure if this is safe yet since it is a different region. Wait until someone confirms though.

he posted the download in the vibrant forum they have over there.. i'll test it
I'm actually a Modaco add-free member from my nexus one days but I don't see a " U.S Vibrant " section, he does how ever has a GalaxyS, I wonder if we good, I think paul is out for the weekend but I have a feeling we good to go..
Where is there a Vibrant forum? I only see a Galaxy S one on his site.

but i downloaded it and am gonna try it..
i'll look and see if i can figure out where it was
This is a holding topic for discussion of ROM compatability with the Samsung Vibrant / Captivate devices (Galaxy S variants).
I don't see any major reason why ROMs wouldn't be compatible, but I guess we'll find out soon enough. I may look into picking up a Vibrant so I can test future ROM releases on it.
Anyone have anything to add?

Seems kinda like the one from MS_guru.. except a little more stable
i haven't been getting all the random reboots that are on ms_gurus, it still is buggy when you plug it into the computer (goes to the MTP Application.. ugh), wifi is working well (except rom manager still won't let me flash recovery through there because it says the wifi isn't stable enough or something), its pretty fast but i'd rather a stock rom than this
i noticed on that page i linked you guys to that they had a link for a download to a stockrom2.1.zip.. i'm going to test that one out as well
I am at work waiting for the word that its a go cause this stock build is killing me! Keep us posted!

one of the links provided has a thread where someone flashed this on a Vibrant and it stuck on boot.
Looks like Ryanolson7 has already gotten past that issue.. should work but I too will wait to hear
Made a backup in the mean while using nandroid and bought the premium version of Rom Manager to support Koush.

If you have Recovery installed "update.zip" you don't have keep going back to rom manager and worry about "wi-fi" issues any more because is already installed in your system, just download quick boot from the market, allow su permision, reboot in recovery click reinstall packages and in 1 second you there...
The stock rom on that site is MS_gurus, not the real tmobile stock

well that was a .zip of pauls rom that was themed as stock android.. i got the other one to boot called 'GalaxysDeodexed'.. still isn't stock quality though
do you guys know if we can flash his nandroid to our phones so we can have stock? if so, rsface, you should upload your nandroid somewhere and link us to it.. if you're willing to.. because the 'stock' roms out there are crap.. not even close to stock.

It's the only thing to flash roms. You can do what most do and flash manually through recovery.

I can second that. Its always better and safer to flash through recovery. Not to take anything away from rom manager, it's reliable also.

***Correction*** I think you mean "crotchless panties" and mini skirts.
To be serious though, it depends on what you mean by "better". ROM Manager seems to be popular because it's easy and doesn't require you to flash a zip from recovery mode. I personally like to just boot into recovery and flash because it's simple and flexible. A lot of ROMs I use come with ROM manager but it always says it will not work until I install Clockwork Recovery. Since I prefer to keep Amon Ra I just don't use ROM Manager anymore. Those are the only two ways I've personally done it but there are variations.
If you need ROM Manager to flash your ROMs, you should not have rooted your phone in the first place. End of story.

I can also build my own house from foundation to shingles ... doesn't mean I want to.
There seems to be an obsession at times that automation is somehow bad. Yeah I know how to reboot into recovery and flash. It's not that hard at all. But really unless you also wrote and compiled that ZIP yourself are you really doing much more worth making some silly elite notoriety out of?
Just saying after awhile it's really nice to simply select "download ROM", pick a flavor, check the boxes of bundled options and let it do the rest. Sure I didn't manually find them in a browser, download them, reboot into recovery, wipe, and flash individually while renaming each file (wouldn't want to cheat and use CWM or RA)... but so what?
Anyway, I know you bolded "need" ... so I may have picked out the wrong post, but sometimes i think a lot of the RA Recovery fans are needlessly proud and critical of other methods to a silly extent.

Amon Ra fans?? There is also Clockwork Mod recovery fans too. And I agree, if you only thought that you could flash your phone through Rom Manager, then someone needs to do some more reading before they just post a thread in the wrong section and didnt even search. Then again, I wish I was the fly on the wall when they really do something they arent supposed to without reading.

Download and do either of the following for a full backup...
the best way to do a complete and full backup of your device.. There are two methods
1 most common
download ROM MANAGER
you can from in this app install a custom recovery on your device..
Boot into the custom recovery and do a full anand backup. you can also flash other custom roms (custom android os)
2 what i use..
download goo manager beta from play store
in go manager click menu at top choose install open source recovery . follow prompts . It will download and install
same as step one you can boot into recovery from goo manager Its big botton fully touch base . And you can backup and restore as well as flash custom roms...
NOW WITH THE ABOVE SAID PLEASE READ thru the forums related to roms rom manager Custom recoveries .. and so on .. this will save you some troubles later .. anything you need to know or not understand Just ask We are here to help.
Cool, thanks! Could you point me to the best place for explanations about roms? XDA is huge and I am not sure where to look... Cheers!

I usually don't keep any one ROM and kernel on my tablet for more then a week (average is 2 days). I'm trying to resist flashing PARANOIDANDROID 1.992 since I heard 2.0 is around the corner.. not sure how long I can hold out though

To find roms on xda
Xda is a very organized web site for the most part finding them is easy. deciding which one is not so much
rom actually means read only memory.. But we will skip the tech stuff for now..
Here on the device development forums Rom is referred to mostly as a custom built Operating system for your device .
these can be built by one person or a team of developers . Most have tweaks and customization's a bit above and beyond the stock experience. ITS BEST before flashing any new rom is to into the forum thread of the rom read developer info and the comments made on the thread. Many roms have experimental software apps and tweaks.. Not all roms are perfectly stable..SO FINDING one that has what you are looking for is just a matter of reading and trial and error.
Most roms. well all you see anymore Come with a kernel. (The linux part of android .. Kinda whats under the hood) . Be sure to pay attention to this and the information. Some add features some over clock .
we have here for the n7 several types of roms .
original development .. these are based on the custom operating system pushed by google
custom based on the above but often has alot more customization's and kernel tweaks More likely to have buggs . but often faster and take up less storage space on device.. as well as having a personal twist for the developer on apps installed customization's and themes
I never give advice on what to use just go in the development section and start reading .
Be sure before you flash anything on your tablet know what it is and how to get out of it Back to stock and Have your backups backed up...
ALWAYS HAVE A WAY OUT FIRST..
Good Luck
So I am now on Paranoid Android, trying out the different Workspaces. Thanks for the help!
But I don't understand what Paranoid Android does. What does "This rom lets you scale and project every app, every widget, even systemcomponents individually" mean in every day language?
Also, could someone explain where, in tablet mode, the three dots are for the settings of many apps. They seem to be covered by the status bar. How does one access them? Would be grateful for help as I really like the small tablet mode.

In another thread you can see me and three other guys doing our best to get that working. One guy got close, got a building environment up and running. At that point, TWRP arrived with an almost ready recovery. I think the last bugs are being sorted at the moment. In addition, I am still waiting for confirmation that it works with the p605-model.
So, to get this development train rolling, make a comment in the TWRP-thread so we can get that recovery completed. When that is done, I guess there is no holding back when it comes to testing ROMs, kernels etc.
