[POLL] Vote for your favorite version of TouchWizGTG (for the next release) - Galaxy S I9000 General

So here's the deal. I'm considering creating a new version of TouchWizGTG (with JPX TW launcher or newer as a base) sometime in the next three weeks since I'll be on vacation. HOWEVER, I will NOT be creating a million different versions to please everyone this time. Sorry, but creating all of those different versions and testing each one for each release was extremely tedious and it made me lose interest in the project.
Vote on your favorite feature set and I will create the TWO that have the most votes plus one of my choosing if it's different than the other two.
If you have no clue what TouchWizGTG is, click here.
Explanation of options:
Old dock: The stock TouchWiz launcher 4 icon dock.
New dock: A redesigned dock with 5 icons and the apps icon in the center. Look at the other thread for screenshots.
Icon backdrops: The stock TouchWiz launcher has colored squares behind the icons. Do you want these or not?
16-bit mode: If enabled, this draws widgets and the dock background in 16-bit color, which provides a noticeable improvement in speed/smoothness, but causes a small amount of color banding on the widgets and dock background. For comparison, LauncherPro uses 16-bit rendering while the stock TouchWiz launcher does not.
Landscape: Self explanitory. Do you want the launcher to be able to rotate into landscape mode or not?

If I could humbly add one feature request: make the Home button open the flyover previews like on most other launchers

I will look into that, but it will be hard considering I don't have the source code and I'm modifying via xml and smali edits.

Hello gtg465x...
first, thanks for your futur new version of TW
and second, why not make a version with a parameters page to select different options? I saw on the forum that someone had already done...

Hi,
There was a bug that I reported in the current launcher that was when I pressed home button in desktop the launcher crashed. It was a nullreferenceexception. Could you please correct it in the new version? Thanks and good work!

samsung said that the source codes 4 JPX will be out on 22/12

I love the 5 dock version and landscape mod is cool, but if you dont make one its no biggie.
But the No. 1 reason i use TouchWizGTG is because i lose the colored icon backgrounds.

New Dock
Coloured icon backdrops
No 16 bit
Landscape enabled
Notification bubbles
Pretty please

vote for
New dock, no icon backdrops, 16-bit enabled, Landscape enabled
plus 5 icon rows in homescreen if possible

New dock, no icon backdrops, 16-bit enabled, Landscape enabled with notification bubbles.
Notification bubbles will be a nice addon for this new touchwiz. Thank alot Gtg465x, been using your touchwiz since I come across it. Btw, can we keep the numbering in those white dots for the touchwiz's homescreen which was missing in your first version?
Thank once again ^^.

You should make only 2 version.
One with colored icon backdrops and the other without!
Both with New dock, 16-bit enabled, Landscape enabled
bye!

+1 for the notification bubbles.
Was a much missed function from the last versions.
Erm hide the notification bar too?

I feel the current TWLauncher is already smooth, hence 16 bit may be irrelevant. Of course, ymmv.

A SettingsActivity would be nice..
For example 16bit mode could be easily controled over that.

I might be able to have a settings page for 16-bit mode, but probably not for the dock style, icon backdrops, and landscape mode. If I do make a settings page though, I should be able to put in options to set the number of rows and columns.

Is there any way to edit GB leak in home screen

I installed The pre rooted GB today and so far am liking it, but I want more icons on the home screen. Is there any way to change/edit the home screen or what is the best option to keep the features of GB home but have the capability of editing and personalizing.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
here is a widget app that allows for more icons in a 1x1 space...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.h9kdroid.multicon&feature=search_result
I think Launcher Pro allows for grid re sizing, though rotating the screen may make everything look "off"
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fede.launcher&feature=search_result
not exactly the solution you had in mind i know but its the best i can come up with
for me i just use the app drawer and group apps accordingly...

You probably want to install an alternate launcher if I understood your need correctly.
Both ADW and LauncherPro allow resizing the home grid, so you can fit in more icons and customize the home screen in general.
I use ADW and it allows to set up the grid for portrait and landscape modes individually. Can't say for sure about LP, but it probably can do it too.

[Q] Is there a way to extend the # of screens

I was wondering if it was possible to extend the # of screens to display more icons.
Other option would be to create folders but is doesn't seems to be possible with Honeycomb, am i wrong?

Good stuff here. I remember seeing versions of Android with 7 screens...
you can install an 3rd party home screen app such as Launcher Pro. It allows you to fully customise your homescreens and add a lot of eye candy. Haven't tried it out on Honeycomb but I've used it on my Xperia X10.
I was more thinking about a native solution but i will try Launcher Pro.
Thanks
Circle Laucher
I use Circle Launcher Light. Its a widget that adds a circle icon on the home screen. You can configure it to display any number of app icons when pressed. You just select which app you want to launch. You can also display a name on the screen circles. I have one set up for each type of family of apps I use. Dor example "Games", "Media", "Readers", etc. I like it. Its free in market.
Tried to download ADW.Launcher from the market without success. Seems to be restricted to non honeycomb systems by google.
If someone can provide an alternate link for the free version, it would be more than appretiate.

Cool ...i run into my market !
Liking it...mostly.
Adds a new dimension to wallpaper wonkiness, unfortunately.
My wallpaper (via wizardrii) is not properly centered in landscape mode. Have not fiddled with it yet.
Anyone have any tips?
I will definitely be purchasing this for my girlfriend's 10.1.. thanks for the tip, it looks great!
Am loving it just make sure if your rubbish bin bar is located at the bottom you enable auto scaling of desktop when bin bar is used, otherwise you won't be able to add icons to the docking bar !

Mine works well for an hour or so, then takes an age for an app to return to the launcher. Only way to fix is to reboot the tab. Anyone else seen this?
Is there a light or trial version that I can try for free? I can't find one in the market.

Wallpapers aren't rendered properly, and my dock bar just disappeared on mine. Still has a ways to go on tablets.
Dock bar going away is a common "problem" with ADW. Turn off hidden dockbar in the settings, turn off gestures.
I went ahead and set mine up without a dockbar, and with just the ADW settings menu item in the top right. Removed the trash bin as well (long-press then Remove from the desktop works just fine).
"Endless" page scrolling, page-turn animation of Tilt, 350 turn speed, 15 desktop bounce, and a theme that has a transparent top menu bar. Desktop has 9x7 columns/rows, icons scaled to 95%, density hack off. App drawer is 6x6, in 4D vertical scroll.
Basically, it looks pretty much like Honeycomb at a glance, but without the one-inch "tap space" wasted on the left and right screen edges. It's much faster and smoother. About the only performance issue I've had is that it doesn't handle "card" widgets like YouTube, Market or News360 as smoothly as stock, when you go to "fling" a card away.
Maybe I'm just getting old and simple, but I don't really see the point of having the excessive customization of ADW on a Honeycomb tab. I have my homescreen setup with two widgets and about 12 regular icons, then the next screen over has some lesser used stuff. If I need any other apps I just open the app drawer and easily locate them. I mean, it's neat to make things whiz-bang and all, but from a usability perspective there's already so much overkill built in to Honeycomb that ADW doesn't seem worth the time.
On my phone, ADW is great, however. Now get off my lawn.

You don't have to use the power of ADW, it's just there waiting to be harnessed if you want it.
In fact, you can use ADW to simplify it, for example you can delete unused home screens, unlike stock Honeycomb. Doing things like adding widgets or changing wallpapers is also cleaner and quicker than the flashy Honeycomb interface. It's simpler.
I'm a card carrying member of the Curmudgeon's Club of Canada, by the way.

So... You are saying that you need adw
I like simple too, and adw help me doing that.
I mean, I do not need the 3d cubic scrolling effects, neither than the futuristic widget selection screen, or the quick search bar at the top.
I didn't choose to display the dock too in adw.
And it is so fast, close to the ipad smoothness.

It is not a problem but a feature hehe. If you slide one the dock, it disappear. I you slide again it appears. I think you can disable somewhere that movement.
ADW still sucks on the Tab..not only are the card/live widgets like Youtube slow to flick like someone said, but the worst thing is that for certain widget, like the Digital Clock stock Tab one...it looks fine when using the Tab landscape at first, then every single time I rotate to portrait view, the widget re-draws for new orientation and both left and right sides of the widget are not cut off. This does not adjust/fix itself instantly like stock launcher does and the only way to really fix it is to re-add widget or sometimes turn screen off and on.
I like the smoothness of the launcher/drawer but I aint dealing with this **** where a widget gets screwed up every single time....too annoying to deal with. Why is this such a hard thing to get right?? Is there a fix for this or no? I am not resizing the widget to begin with btw...just adding it as normal size. The homescreen size I use is 8 columns and 7 rows btw, just like stock.
Oh and why in the app drawer, the the top still unmatching/not dimmed like the rest of the drawer below it? Looks so stupid. They should dim it too and still keep the buttons in the top right corner, ughh.
EDIT: Here, compare landscape to portrait when flipped. Not only does that Digital Clock widget get cut off, but also look at the Wireless Widget..it looks ridiculous now.
EDIT2: I unchecked the ADW option for resizing widgets to fit blah blah but the same thing still happens where the Clock widget, for example, gets cut off after going vertical.. although the Wifi Widget looks a little less ridiculous now when turning. Anyone know about the widget issue though??

The 15 minute refund policy really sucks, especially for apps like ADW EX where you really need some time to get a feel for how you like it and check out all the customizations. To get around it you can always buy it, pull the apk from /data/apps (requires root), refund it, and re-install the program using the pulled apk file. This way you can take your time to play around with the app before deciding if you want to keep it. If you do go ahead and re-buy it from market. If you decide not to buy it do the honest thing and uninstall the program.

Sony UI: Dislikes

- Text messaging application.
- You can't keep the swipe (Lockscreen) and have a 'pin'
- You can't 'show and hide' photo albums (like on HTC Sense)
- Notes Widget is tiny
- Taking a screen grab is not as easy as on other phones.
Just a few things that I can't get used too. I guess I'm just used to the mega customisation of 'Sense' and for now Sony UI feels a bit bare.

do you have screen shots of the text messaging app? I just want to take a look at what conversation looks like compared to other phones.
Also, I expect it to be a little bare. I'm coming from a G-Nexus and love that its not heavy on the UI. :fingers-crossed:

Text messaging application, this is personal preference I suppose, I like it.
Lockscreen and pin, this is the same with all Android devices.
Not completely sure what you mean about show and hide album's, but that's nothing an app cannot fix!
Notes widget, did you not see the maximise button in bottom corner?
Screenshots are a little awkward, I just use the power button, press and hold it down then when menu comes up, choose take screenshot.
Don't forget this UI of Sony's is the closest to vanilla JB.

To hide albums, use a file explorer (i prefer es file explorer). Navigate to your album folder and the sub-folder you wish to hide. Create a new file in this folder and name it '.nomedia'. That's all. Your folder is hidden. Or else, move all images you wish to hide to a new folder and create the .nomedia file in that folder. No problem!

How about asus padfone's ui?
Only thing that bugs me is the swipe/pin thing (first android so not seen it before).
It seems really counter-intuitive to have this really cool, high quality lock screen with a neat effect as you swipe along it, but then have no way of having it passworded. Why have style at the expense of security? Is it that hard to make a pin box appear when you swipe? Hopefully it'll be rectified in an update, it's only a small thing but it's bloody annoying!

[Q] Nova Launcher question(s)

Hello,
Been using Nova Launcher Prime for quite a few months now. I really enjoy how light and slick the launcher is, however I generally add icons and little more than that. I don't really play around with the grid settings, margins, however I have seen so many great home screens for the Nexus 4 I'm beginning to get a little jealous as many are using Nova and not some bloaty launcher like Buzz.
I have found when using an icon pack, the dock icons are never the same size as the icons above on the main home screen. If I check "small icons" in dock settings they are smaller as I would expect, however if I uncheck this then the dock icons are bigger than the homes creen icons.
It gives any layout I'm trying to achieve an odd look. I wanted to give my screen an MIUI/Iphone home screen look where the icons in both dock and above are the same size. The only way I think I can do this is remove the dock, but then I won't be able to add dock backgrounds should I wish.
Anyone understand where I'm coming from here?
Also, if someone can point me somewhere to get the best out of Nova, put together some cool home screens etc, Thank you.
Have you tried resizing icons under nova settings>look and feel>icon size? Haven't really paid attention to the icon differences as I don't use a dock now.
Sent from my neXus⁴ using Tapatalk 2
I've noticed that some icon packs don't play nice with nova. Meaning that the icons get stretched out and look like they're cut off. Now if I manually add the icons, they're fine. It's not all icon packs though. Have you tried other icons?

I think there is also an option for the hight of the menubar itself (normal and higher). maybe this will help.
