[Q] what happens to game saves after hard reset? - Focus General

Are game saves backed up by the Zune software so if I do a hard reset I can pick up where I left off?

I searched aroung a bit, and I guess the answer is no, no data backup from apps.
thanks anyway

Here is what I understand. If you have downloaded games, apps whatever, from the phone there is no backup for the apps due to the hard reset wiping all data from the device. If you install games or apps from zune software there is back up in the event you hard reset due to your zune account keeping track of what is synced with the phone.

thanks for the info. That is what I came to understand also. But no matter how you install the apps there is no back up of app settings or saved games as of yet.

Depends on the game, if it's a game with a network server like crackdown, it saves by account not on your phone.
But lets say an offline game like puzzle quest, it saves on your phone. If you do hard reset, you will lose your save. And there is no way backing it up. I learned it the hard way

REALLY??
The crackdown game is the one I was most worried about. One of the reasons I was holding off on putting in my Sandisk C4 microsd card is because I didn't want to start over. I may have to give it a try this weekend.

IMHO I'd like to see game and app data synced to your skydrive account. It'd be nice if both Xbox 360 AND Windows Phone 7 could drop game saves from any game to Skydrive as a backup.

Has any one found where the game saves are just upgraded my phone and don't want to start from scratch again

Help! How do I save everything on to SIM or memory card?!

Hi everyone, apologies in advance for not being very tech savvy and for the dumb questions I'm bound to ask!
My Touch HD keeps freezing or just going extra extra slow and sometimes wont openn various things - then when I look at it half an hour later everythings open!
Anyhoo it's being sent off tomorrow under the warranty to be fixed. How do I make sure all my music, pictures, videos, contacts etc are all saved to the sim or memory before they get wiped?
My phone wont link via the USB to the laptop and my laptop doesn't have bluetooth (oldschool!)
Can someone please give me an idiots guide how to not lose all my stuff?!

Aside from contacts and their phone numbers, you can't really save anything else to the SIM as its capacity is extremely small. You'll have to get a program like PIM backup which will let you back everything up (contacts/texts/emails/music). Another way to do this is to download microsoft's myPhone (which is free) which will upload everything to a microsoft server and then you can download it all back to your phone. However if you have alot of large files (like ton of music) this will take a while so make sure you do it over wifi.
here's a link to MyPhone:
http://myphone.microsoft.com/mkweb/Start.po?mkt=en-US&ocid=sem_enus_g-myphone
Have you tried a soft reset on the phone?
As said, Pim backup will do all you want, or get Sprite backup as well.
highly recomend PIM Backup
will back up will do everything you need but may be slow to backup your music and videos.
I would use total commander to search your my documents folder on the phone and copy across to the memory card.
Back up
Back Up - I use Sunnysoft Backup Manager (currently ver 4.0.0.2, build 07131)
This will back up any or all of your device based files together with any files on memory cards if you wish. I back up my phone to the resident SD card. Periodically I back up my SD card to my desktop.
The software works fine on the Touch HD. I used it after I had upgraded to the latest rom update. It must have saved me hours. It's a great comfort if something go wrong. The software keeps an executable file on the SD card, so you just need to run that to restore everything after a hard reset. Worth every penny.

Hard reset: check for safety

Hi there,
I've found a lot of information on the wiki and this forum, and maybe it's because I don't have any experience with this, but I'm still nervous about doing a hard reset... Yeah laugh if you like
I want to perform a hard reset because I've messed around with my HD a lot and want to start with a clean installation.
Because I already once lost all my contacts I just want check if I'll be allright if I do the following:
- All applications (cab), music, photo's, documents placed on storage card
- PIMBackup to make a backup of my contacts
I don't have any troubles reconfiguring my e-mail accounts.
But really, this is it? Or do I miss something? I can't come up with anything more I'd need to backup. Any tips?
Thanks in advance!

First off welcome to XDA.
There is various backup software available which you can use. Best free one would be Sashimi which can be used to backup everything including contacts, emails, apps installed, registry changes, settings. However this takes a bit of settings up first time unfortunately. Another free backup tool is PIMBackup which can be used to backup contacts & emails.
There is also 3rd party backup apps like SPB Backup, Resco Backup & Sprite. A word of caution using these though. You can only really use these for contacts, emails etc as changing between roms means settings, registries etc would not be the same on each rom, so if you where to perform a full backup including settings, apps installed etc and then perform a full restore this could cause complications when changing between roms
Thanks a lot Enough confirmation to run it this evening.
I'm not feeling like changing to another ROM. I can't decide what ROM is a decent one, there's too much choice and too much testing involved. I've worked a lot with Linux and used a lot of beta-software, which ended in endless errorsolving. I kinda want a lite ROM which simply works. I already spend 3 hours reading the forum today (I love my job ;-) and can't find the right reasons to choose a lite and stable ROM
So I'll guess I'm going back to the original state of the phone as it was when I bought it a year ago. Or is there any ROM you'd specifically recommend?
All I do is sync with outlook. Then hard reset. It's then just a case of installing what apps you want and re-syncing. simples. By doing it that way you will only get back on your device what you actually want.

Yes this is very true, but if you use Sashimi, whole process can be done in 5-10 mins, i.e. everything from flashing to having apps installed, settings changed etc. Only difficulty with Sashimi is the initial setup of it.

Gotta learn this stuff

You guys are genious. I need serious help. First I have a services.exe error everytime I shut off or soft reset. Any one know what to do or if it even matters.
Second all this talk about running things and saving space. I need more memory saving. I don't have a clue what I really need and what I can get rid off to save oh ram. or hard drive memory too. Please tell me exactly what to do.
NExt on my HTC Imagio I want to run SBP mobile shell but I want to run TF3 too because I like the weather start up on it and I can't get to it with spb shell running someone talked about it but I can't figure out what to do based on what I read, I want to start up TF3 and then hit a button to go to shell. ANy one know how to do itl Also I have Pocket Mechanic and all kinds of tools but not SK Tools. I have Vitual Espolorer cuz I thought that would help me ID files but now that I can ID them I doh't know what I need and what I don;t. If I get SK Tools will it help me know what to do. Nothing comes with a manual anynmore. I need a detailed manual for the phone and how it works not what it does. Can anyone answer these with esplicit directions cuz I don;t know a .dll from anything else. I only know that an exe runs something, So Im really dumb about all this. ANyone know how to help. It 2:30 AM and I;ve been up all night for a week trying to figure out things on this phone. So far I like it a lot but the more I add the slower I get and I might want to add more. HELP!!!!!! Going crazy.....
OK, that's a whole lot for anyone to try to process. First things first, what's your biggest problem? The best way to get help is to knock down the issues one at a time.
The first problem is I have a services.exe error every time I turn the phone on after it's been off or any time I reset it. That's first
Based on a little Googling, it looks like the only fix for a services.exe error is a hard reset. I pasted the info on a hard reset below for you:
This will wipe all data off the phone and restore factory default settings.
1. While the phone is off, press and hold Volume Down + Talk/Send + End/Power.
2. When the device displays a message about wiping the data, release all 3 buttons.
3. Press Volume Up to complete the hard reset.

I don't know what programs you are trying to move, listen, just forget moving programs, back up or your files via myphone or use activesync to store everything you want on your computer. When you perform a hard reset either by the method listed or by going to Start->settings->all settings->system->memory then selecting clear storage tab, letting win mo come back up and customize then before you do anything when it restarts, hard reset again, for some reason this helps the functionality of native software. Then immediately take care of the tv icon, proxy mem. tweak, and nopifix. Then what ever you need to install try to install to your sd card via downloading from this xda site for cab files or doing a little google searching rather than installing directly from market place. EXCEPTION: DO NOT INSTALL TWEAKS TO SD CARD OR ITEMS THAT ROTATE THE SCREEN. Keep all the cab files on your pc or on your storage card so that you have them whenever you decide to hard reset or flash your device. Enjoy your imagio thing only become easier the more you use and play.
I must not have my activcesnyc set up right because the only thing it backsup is my contacts, email, journal and a file folder full of what ever I want to but in that folder but thats snyc with my docs on my devic and I don't want to over load it. When I had a palm it used to back everythng up to a file on my computr and I could just reinstall but this windows stuff doesn't seem to do it. How do I set up active sync to sync everythi ng on my devide and card to back up to my computer.? Ans I don't have a clue what you were talking aabout when you said take care of your tv and those other files, not a clue. I have mobil shell on my phone is that what your taling about not having on the phoen. You need to talk like your talking to a 12 year old when your explaining this stuff to me. Thanks. L

Hey you said something about getting rid of the tv icon and other stuff after a hard reset, but never explained in detail. plz help, thx
After weeks of zero issues (aside from memory leak), I just got a barrage of services.exe errors this morning. Phone was throwing error after error even after a soft reset. After three soft resets it's finally working now (after another services.exe error). I didn't make a single change to my configuration though so I'm a big perplexed as to why these just started showing up now. I was really starting to get content with my Imagio too...sigh.

SGS life after a Hard Reset

since i was unable to find the proper answer to fix the problem the easy way
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793254
i had to go it the hard way
just went ahead and Wiped my phone.
it was less painful than i though it'll be, it was within the calculated parameters of the process involved to get your device up to speed in record time in a massive failure
so once the phone booted back into the OS, the very first thing i did was to setup APN
then sign in to my gmail account, BAM! got all my pictures, phones, contacts, calendars, etc, every thing back
then next task was to install AppsBrain, hit sync and BAM! i got my list of 400+ apps to install back
now i'm clicking through about 800 times install, okay, continue LOL :r
and i'm rather surprise Android Market, and the OS hasn't crapped out on me yet with the massive deluge of files action
it's install faster than i though... only 200+ apps to go
and about 15+ more email / IM accounts to join back into the system, and reconfiguring 400 apps
the Titanium Backup backed up files got wiped out in the process
at least i'm getting a good vibe out of this, it means the upgrade to Froyo will be just the same
the phone is HOT of all the 3.5G activity
the actual 3 button reboot to Recovery Mode + Wipe data and reboot back took less than a minute.
chances of missing a call during this time is quite low
SMS will be downloaded as soon as your phone goes back into OS, so chances of missing out on an important SMS is very unlikely
another interesting i noticed is that the File System is not choking up as it did before the Hard Reset.
before i couldn't get more than 4 apps downloading/installing concurrently in parallel
right now i'm doing around 10 at a time, and it doesn't slow down.
what gives?

Really? Maybe i should wipe my device to
Installing more than 3 apps at the same moment.... it´s just a pain...
exactly, normally when you try to download and install 4 apps simultaneously it gets sooooooo slow, worse than a snail
but for some odd reason right now that is not happening, it's smooth download and install, i wonder that's the difference
recommend you buy/install mybackup pro.. you can reinstall a bunch of apps without it prompting you for each one... i think if you pay for titanium backup it does the same..
i frequently copy the appmanager (diff app i use) and titanium backup directoryies from internal to external sd so i have have a backup in case of a full reset ..
i also set mybackup pro to backup directly to external sd.
yeah, that was my problem i forgot to move a copy of titanium backup from internal SD to external SD
otherwise i'd not have had to go thorugh 800+ clicks to say OK to everything
LOL
well... after aprox 250+ apps/games installed the phone is going back to its old self slooooooooow when you try to install 2 or more apps concurrently.
and the list of Manage Apps takes a while to load up
so it seems like the sweet spot is to keep less than 200 apps on the phone to keep it running silky smooth
Thanks for the report and the painless part, AllGamer.
May have to try it one of these days if I screw up.
After reading you post, I move the Titanium Backups to SDcard
just so I don't forget. Now have to remember to update it.

I can't even imagine how you have 800 apps on your phone. I just counted and I have 21, and to me that is a lot, but perfect.
not 800 it's 400 but for each install you need 2 click
so that's 800 clicks
Can you do a write up on step by step how to wipe and reinstall the (JH2) ROM, kernal, modem etc for i9000M?

Question about bootloader unlock...

I can't seem to find anything regarding getting a bootloader unlock with having surviving userdata, which is probably a good thing considering it demonstrates one of Android's security features are functional.
So, I wanted to ask something...
How do you retain application data, such as game progress? I have Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed and Crazy Taxi data I don't want to lose. Text messages would be nice to keep, too.
Also, does it wipe the external SD?
Thank you.

I took my SD card out just incase but pretty sure doesn't wipe External. For backing up texts and call logs I always use SMS backup & restore on the play store. Also on those games is there no way to sync with Facebook then when all set back up sync your Facebook again to get back progress in games?

Ah, I forgot that was a thing. I'll take a hit in the dark and see if they do but with some more research first. Both have Facebook integration for competition amongst friends but neither say anything about progress sync. If the data's lost, so be it. Thank you.
