VEGAn-Tab SUPPLEMENT ROM Manager Support (Beta3b, updated 12/13/10) - G Tablet Android Development

The usual USE AT YOUR OWN RISK disclaimer. I'd also highly recommend clockworkmod recovery .08 as a pre-req. We are only testing for cwm users.
I Recommend a CACHE Wipe. Data wipe shouldn't be necessary.
IF YOU DON'T USE or DON'T PLAN TO USE - ROM Manager - Then there is no need to update. These changes will be added to BETA 4. Unless you want the new boot IMAGE below instead of the G-Tablet on white background currently present.
Build URL: http://vegantab.gojimi.com/
Downloads: http://vegantab.gojimi.com/downloads
1.0.0 Beta3b Link: http://vegantab.gojimi.com/download/gtab.vegan.1.00.beta3b.zip
This is an update.zip formatted file. You'd run this like you'd run any other update.zip file.
-----------------------------------------------
This is a collaborative effort between myself, Roebeet, Rothnic and whoever else wants to pitch in. A ROM based off the Advent Vega firmware.
Benefits of this supplement
- ROM Manager should now allow you to select G-Tablet as your device
Known issues(same as BETA 3)
- sdcard2 will not remount if you eject and re-insert (should be fixed in beta 3).
- The initial Google setup on a fresh install will not get past the first screen (I believe it's because the phone apks were removed). The fix for this is to use the "four corner fix", to bypass. See this video for details: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5XjF6sPef4. This should be fixed in beta 3.
- weird orange bar is showing up in the stock Calendar app.
Changelog
- (a2) We are using alpha1 as our "base" image, and then a modular format on top of that. So, alpha2 is a full update.zip package.
- (a2) VOLD should be fixed using a hack. 30 seconds after bootup, SDCARD2 should start working. Or, it may not work. It's an alpha.
- (a2) Vega user apk script has been added, which is supposed to add Flash on a newly wiped system. But it's spotty at best.
- (a2) Camera should be fixed.
- (a2) We're deleting some of the unneeded system apps like Twitter, Facebook, the Htc stuff in gapps and talkback. You can always add these back via the Market. The reason is to keep the image a little cleaner.
- (a2) Audio fix added.
- (a3) Added changes to the framework for smaller status bar and VEGAn boot screen.
- (a3) Added Gingerbread keyboard.
- (b1) SSL bug fixed. Also, added the latest YouTube and Gmail apps. Removed the user apk script for now, as it's really buggy.
- (b2) VOLD post-boot replaced with a mount commend. Should be more stable and might fix the disappearing apps, I hope. New Gmail, adhoc wireless support added, adfree hosts file removed (get "adfree android" app in the market to get it back), removed the Phone apks which should improve battery life.
- (b3) Mounting issues should be completely corrected, audio issues are corrected, new rothnic theme added, new Gmail and Voice apps, new Settings app with advanced Wifi (and policy is set to "never sleep" by default).
- (b3b) Fixed ROM Manager to allow G-Tablet device Selection
New Boot Image replaces G-Tablet logo on white background:

Thank you, love the new boot image!

worked great thanks

Finally, it is not embarrassing to reboot in public. Thank you much.

Well, everything was working fine. I cleared cache and installed the new update and now I cant get WIFI to connect. I'd really prefer not to data wipe.
Just goes from scanning, to connected, back to disconnected, then scanning again. Sigh

If you are using wireless tether for android, try quickly enabling then disabling access control. It should connect almost immediately after that. Works for me, anyways.

Not to sound like I am talking down to you, but have you tried a reboot? Amazing what that fixes sometimes.

Yup that's where I was heading next, I successfully connected to a neighbors network, so its gotta be something on my end. Thanks
And yes I rebooted.

New boot image is great. Now I just have to follow the guide to get rid of the birds.
I didn't have any problems applying this over my beta 3 vegan. Wifi connected just fine. Just had to do the market fix again. Easy peasy.
Good job.

Flawless. Thanks.

Did you guys do something to improve 3D graphics? Like pick up a new GLES lib??? As my Quadrant scores are Now 2610!!! Only slowdown is IO writes else I couldn't have watched any individual test, as each so swift...

Lost access to the internal SD card while in CM. I can still see it with root explorer but now I have to place all zip files to flash on the external card... Not a bid deal but I'm wondering id that was the intent....

this is awesome! unlocked some stuff that i couldn't use before in rom manager. now it properly flashes the latest cwm recovery and also able to flash back to bekit 0.8. nice! liking the new boot image as well.

What Clockwork did you flash from ROM Manager... or have currently on your tablet. As far as I know. only bekit 0.8 clockwork also available on ROM Manager allows access to internal memory. Until that is changed we still recommend 0.8.
Let me know.

ok this newest version isn't working right for me. i'm on version 2.5.1.8 (the latest) and it only recognizes sdcard2 and not sdcard. when i make a backup, it goes to sdcard2. when i choosed to install a zip, it looks in sdcard2. i tried reflashing back to bekit 0.8 but it wouldn't even let me create a backup. i'm gonna try and flash to a dif version.

I had a similar issue. if i tried to run from Rom Manager, after going back to bekit 0.8, it still tried to go to the sdcard2. if I manually rebooted into recovery it worked fine.

awesome! this worked. flashed back to bekit 0.8 and booted into recovery using hot reboot, not rom manager. i guess rom manager is pretty much useless at this point for me.

I assume the same bricking exists with this recovery since it's based on clockworkmod recovery right?

I have it on my phone. And it works.
As far as bricking, I have not had any issues with clockworkmod. And I have been using it for months.
Little help please
ok, so I installed psfmod. I verified that it's installed correctly. Now, how is Gaia manager used? I downloaded the zip file but there are no instructions. Can someone shed some light on what to do after flashing the psfmod recovery?
Thanks! (yeah, I'm a newb to PS3 jailbreaking)

Put the Gaia Manager on a usb flash drive.
Reboot into recovery. Go to PSFreedom. Select your firmware. Power on your PS3 by hitting the power then quickly hit the eject button. If done properly your should see two new items in your XMB.
Thanks, that worked. I'm backing up one of my games now. Do I have to boot the PS3 this way each time I want to play/backup a game or am I done once I have gaia manager installed?

Yes. (10 chars)
Its working
Hi all its working for me been staying up to date with it evn tho i am quite the noob lol. just wondering i cant seem to get a 3.42 required game to work and apparently this update solved that? using it on my desire. and with OM new version or evn the 2.d or e says unsupported payload if i apply the patch. and the game still doesnt work. also tried with the new gaia manager rc9. anyone get a 3.42 required game to work. The game im trying is EA MMA.
Update: the psfmod has been updated for the problem i was having now all 3.42 required games working. New PL3 paylod included. 0.9.6.5 released. WoW this guy is jus tooo gud constant updates.
Im using an HTC Eris with 0.9.6.5 and Gaia Manager RC9 and I still cant get MOH to work. The update installed fine from .pkg on flash drive, but everytime I try to launch the game it says the firmware needs to be updated.
Any clues?
Series of event:
Originally had PSFreedom (first version)
Ripped MOH to internal using BM (first version I believe)
Tried to play, no go (asks for firmware)
Tried to update from USB .pkg, no go (asks for firmware)
Changed to psfMOD 0.9.6.4 and installed Gaia RC9
MOH backup installed without issue. Did not ask for firmware update.
Tried to run game. No go, asks for firmware.
Updated to psfMOD 0.9.6.5 and still will not run the game. Keeps asking for firmware.
Hopefully someone can find something wrong that Im doing so that I can play this game soon!
Also, I never did the external to internal transfer thing, I didnt edit any files, and I didnt strip out the 4GB MOH Frontline.
If anyone can help it would be MUCH appreciated!
mayb this could help
I had similar probz to begin with i think once uv got the 0.9.6.5 installed that side is sorted now the issue becomes with the loader. it didnt work for with RC9. the one i used and worked with was the Gaia Manager 1.02 final release. jus google it ul find it.
Hope that helps.
((should prompt u after loading the game to use patch. also dont change the fw files in the game leave as original i think thats a must. has to be original untouched game files not the ones changed to 3.41 otherwise wont work))

Ive updated to Gaia Manager 1.02 and it asked if I wanted it to edit it and I said yes. It went to the screen to install the data and just sits there and hangs at 0%. What else can I do to get this to work??! I REALLY want to play MOH...lol
Im not too sure mate :S lol. i did that and it worked for me rite away. Are your sure its not a modded game rip? with the files changed? .....Sorry mate i cant think of much else to do. OHHHH!!!! theres something like that happened to me with a game before. Its not that the game didnt run because obviously the game started so your psfmod and the gaia manager are doing there job. Its because the game is installed on the internal. thats why its hanging on the install data bit. Im almost 100% sure thats the prob mate. Didnt read that bit in your post lol. try it on external and remove the one on the internal and from what i can tell theres no reason why it shouldnt work after that.
Hope that helps mate. ((fingers crossed 99.9% sure thats the prob lol))

Installation Instructions:
BACKUP First!
Flash back to stock via Odin.
Master clear (THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE!).
Root with one-cick root. (note you can skip this step if you copy update.zip to the root of your sdcard)
Copy rom to SD Card.
Install Rom Manager
Flash Clockwork mod recovery from within Rom Manager.
Reboot into recovery.
Choose Reinstall packages (might have to do twice).
Choose Install zip from sdcard.
Choose zip from sdcard.
note: You can skip the rom manager and rooting steps if you already have the CWM update.zip. Just copy it back to the root of your sdcard after master clear. Then copy the rom over and reboot into recovery.
It will now take a long time to reboot. It should ask you if you want to backup and restore. Please select this option. It will automatically apply the lagfix. After everything is finished and installed I recommend some additional steps.
Open up Spare Parts and set window and transition animations to Fast instead of normal.
Reboot phone again to make sure android id applies successfully.
Enjoy!

Awesome. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions!
Ill give it a shot. See how something different performs for a change. With your install procedures, you should mention that if people already have the update.zip on the root of their phone they wont have to re-root the phone. Just make sure you have a backup in case master clear removes it. Makes it a much easier process.
I am going to give it another try. I don't flash Rom's as much as most so I forgot a key step. Will report my findings here once flashed.
This looks absolutely beautiful. Well done!
Could you try making a version with the 1280 kernel??

So far I am still waiting on the Android bootscreen. After installing the zip, I selected backup and restore, it did its thing and went back to the same screen. I did it a second time to not mess anything up. Now it has been sitting for about 7 min. I will give it some more time and see if it ever boots past this screen.
So I am unable to flash this. The first time is as I stated above. So I wiped back to JF6. Did Master clear which I have never had to do with a Rom before. Went back through the steps and now it is stuck at the bootscreen again. What is weird is it went to the bootscreen and then it went to the battery screen. Now I am stuck on the bootanimation again. I can not recommend this Rom in its current state. It should not be this way to flash, and I can not even get it to go past the boot screen.

Very odd. Is it possible the mirror from multiupload didn't have the complete file yet? I've flashed it several times and never had this problem.

Yeah...I think that could be the problem. I will try again in a bit because I just tried another rom and had the same issue. We will see. Sorry, I wasn't trying to make it seem like the Rom was bad. I should have worded my post differently.

Ok. How long did it take to start after getting to the boot screen? I have been stuck for 5 minutes on my newest flash without the USB plugged in. I flashed Assonance and it booted up within 2 minutes after it reached the boot screen.
Going to let my phone die this evening (calibrating battery); but I will try this out tomorrow morning and post results.
Do you have the Voice Dialer app in the drawer?
Great ROM so far. Haptic feedback is best so far and GPS seems to be great. Is there any way to get original messaging back. I don't see an option to scroll through contacts.
This might be a really been question but. I always see quadrant and unpack scores. A) what apps so I. Download to test these. And b) what. Does each score represent. Please excuse my nieveness but I'm curious

LinPack tests raw CPU speed in MFLOPS. A 15-16 is a standard Captivate Score. An 18 is pretty effing high, but probably also because it's overclocked to 1.3 ghZ
Quadrant tests GPU speeds as well as CPU i believe. The 1st part of the test is CPU based, so Captivate tends to be slower in the 1st part of the Quadrant test compared to Nexus One 2.2+ sometimes or some of the newer Droids, but on the GPU part where the program takes the phone through many graphical tests, Captivate & Galaxy S phones in general trump all because the graphics chip is phenomenal in the phone.
Hope this helps!

This wipes everything except internal/external sdcard. It flashes modem, kernel, data and system files.
The attached zip files below are CWM recovery (update.zip) and Android Debug Bridge (ADB.zip).
Installation
If you are on stock JF6-JH7, use the following steps to flash this ROM. If you are already on a custom ROM, you should know how to flash a ROM
1. Disable any lagfix you may have.
2. Place the update.zip on the root directory of your internal sdcard, and place the ROM into the root directory as well.
3. Power phone off.
4. Hold down volume up, volume down, and power until you see the ATT boot image.
5. Continue holding volume up and volume down, but release the power button. Once you see the recovery menu, release all buttons.
6. Use the volume buttons to select "Reinstall Packages" and use power button to confirm your selection, your phone will reboot to recovery again.
7. "Reinstall Packages" one more time, you will now see ClockWorkMod Recovery.
8. Using volume buttons to select and back key to confirm: Select flash zip (or install zip, something like that), then select flash zip (or install zip) from sdcard.
9. Select the ROM and then it will ask you to confirm again.
10. Once you see "Install from sd complete." You can go back and then reboot system. It normally takes about 5 minutes for the first boot.

Yes, but be aware this includes 3e recovery. You cannot use update.zip CWM to flash another ROM, only way I know so far is to use ODIN 1-click restore.
Until a custom kernel is made with CWM integrated or a CWM is made with new signatures you cannot use CWM.
Looking forward to this ryude!

do you know how long its gonna take for uploading?
Still a lot of work needs to be done, and we desperately need a custom kernel built from source in order to really see improvements.

I used 3e Recovery Modded w/ No Verification when I had KB1 on my phone.
Edit: maybe you can include this in your release (or use the voodoo kernel).
Using the voodoo kernel, just gonna test it first before I upload.

Nook CM7-on-SD

I'm trying to load up the gapps ZIP, to get Market and my Google apps going.
1. The whole "press and hold for X seconds" on the power/n buttons ain't working too well for me. The thing keeps just loading normally or rebooting cuz I hold power too long or something).
2. When inside CM7, and I choose Reboot/REcovery, it actually skips the SD entirely and loads me into the original B&N on the machine itself. Derp.
I followed these instructions for installing CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
using the update-cm-7.0.0-encore-signed.zip as recommended by quinxy here:
http://quinxy.com/2011/04/01/comple...on-the-nook-color/comment-page-3/#comment-944
So, any tips or ideas on how to get into recovery (it's a CM7 install on SD) so I can put in Market and GAPPS?
I also noticed that when it boots, I'm in some black screen always and have to click power twice to actually get the CM7 desktop to show. Whassup with that?
edit: also, is there harm with installing CWM from ROM manager in this CM7 SD card install? Will it install it to the SD card, or to the Nook Color itself? Will it dork things up? I want to keep them separate (B&N on the machine, CM7/GB on the SD). Is this the reason I can't get into any kind of recovery mode, because I don't have CWM installed?
Which build of CM7 are you running? The more recent nightlies made the reboot into recovery process easier.

I'm really not sure -- I grabbed the one I was told to do in the post at:
http://quinxy.com/2011/04/01/comple...on-the-nook-color/comment-page-3/#comment-944
with a direct link to update-cm-7.0.0-encore-signed.zip, whatever that is. The file is here:
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/get/update-cm-7.0.0-encore-signed.zip
Since creating an install to SD is so brain-dead simple, I'm happy to switch over to something else if needed.
What about CWM? If I go to ROM manager, it tells me CWM isn't installed. If I install it - is it putting it to the SD or the machine itself? I'd really love to keep it internally clean, all on the SD.
You should be running at least the latest stable build, 7.0.3. If you're more daring, like me, you can install the latest nightly, which may in the 100's now (I haven't checked in a couple days).
I honestly haven't done anything in ROM manager yet so I can't offer any advice there. I've had problems with it and don't care eenough to troubleshoot. I use Win32imager to make img backups of my install.

I just went here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=encore
and grabbed the top one, cm_encore_full-106.zip, and it is installing to the card now, we'll give it a shot and see how well it works. I'm *assuming* these are all CM7.
edit: I got a different boot splash screen than the previous one, so that's a bonus. Nicer boot animation. Crossing fingers that it doesn't start up in sleep mode like the other build package did (always had to toggle power button to get the desktop to show after a boot). Yar, desktop!
OK, now to see if this thing will reboot into recovery....
Yup, that should do it. Didn't realize we were up to 106 already!! CM7 is short for Cyanogen mod 7, so yes, they're all CM7 See how 106 works for you.

You're a genius - it was a crappy build of CM7 I must've flashed first. The latest did the trick. Nice boot anim, came right to desktop, rebooting into recovery picked up the gapps zip and installed it.
Thanks for the advice. I'll make a restore point with Win32Image thingy now. Thanks again for your help.
You're welcome. Make sure to "thank" me. I just started posting here and wouldnt mind a little color on my thank o meter
I'm not a genuis, that would be the guys who made cm7. I'm nowhere near that smart.

Ha! I have no idea, like I said, I just started posting here so I have no idea how to do it either. Maybe someone smarter than I will post with the answer.
Well, GAPPS is installed -sort of- but now stuck at "SETUP WIZARD" at the top whenever I boot the nook. Softkeys are not responding, the only thing that does is the notifications pulldown. No desktop, just a big fat "SETUP WIZARD" at the top, and black screen.
Grrr.
edit: Rebooted it, and now have a nice normal set up screen. Yay.
Maybe an obvious question, but did you make sure to setup your WiFi connection before installing the gapps? One time I was in a hurry and installed gapps before setting up my WiFi and I had to start over
I did that twice already, but even with setting up wifi, i got that setup wizard glitch (which went away when I simply rebooted). It looked a lot like a set up screen for gapps that didn't render quite right. It's probably an artifact from being on the most bleeding edge nightly....
it's all up and running though, and looking very nice. love the fact it's all on the SD - so very, very nice.
I'm glad you got it working. I think I got that weird gapps glitch one time but yeah, it goes away after a reboot.
I too LOVE that it's all off the SD card. My daughter (3) likes a couple apps that I have on the Barnes and Noble interface, so about once a week I boot into that (its horrid by the way once you've been running CM7 for a while). I'm going to be helping a friend get CM7 on his viewsonic g tablet this weekend and thats a full flash to main memory install. Makes me a bit more neervous but it looks pretty straight forward.
By the way, I highly recommend Launcher Pro, with the unlocker (a couple bucks). it makes everything soooooo smooth.
I use LP on my EVO (running rooted w/a cleaned up Sense ROM w/o any sprint bloat). I love it. I find GO launcher, ADW and LP all have very similar features.
I have a few paid apps (Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, Beautiful Widgets) - that I bought with the Evo and are working here, was able to DL and install them from Market - so that's handy.
Although "Move to SD Card" seems sorta "huh, wha?" now.
I haven't overclocked my nook yet - think it's something I should do? I read about some kernel tweak to kick it up to 1.1GHz. The final thing I need to do is get Netflix working on here, then I'll be content.
I'm running LP on my HTC Desire and its awesome. not necessarily better than sense, but its fresh, like a new phone almost.
I have NO idea what "move to SD card" does if you're running on an SD card. I'd love an explanation from someone on that.
I can help you get Netflix going if you need help. That's my number one favorite app on my Nook Color. That alone made installing CM7 worth it. Nothing better than sitting in bed at night watching movies on it.
Oh yeah, under Cyanegon Mod settings, find tablet tweaks (careful, dragons ahead), and you can easily overclock the CPU to 925 MHz right there. I don't know a way of setting it higher while running off an SD card. If you figure it out, point me in the right direction please?

I wouldn't mind some help getting Netflix going, if you would please. I noticed it's not even appearing in the Market (I think Market changed a bit to filter out unsupported apps now).
As far as moving to SD card - I did notice a few glitches. Things like moving Facebook caused Facebook's contact/feed syncing to break and vanish. I suppose anything that needs background processes are going to be flakey. There were other ones, like Word for Friends that also glitched on me. I just moved them back to "phone" and they worked again.
Not really pressed for space - but yeah, minor bugs there.
So....netflix?
Found an APK I was able to side-load, but Netflix is all chipmunk-y!
Someone has a download link to the apk file on these forums. Look around for that. Tell your Nook to install third party apps. Install the program after downloading that.
Install Root Explorer and allow it super user access. Open up the system folder and mount r/w. Open up build.prop in the text editor. Change the following lines to match this.
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
The first one normally says NookColor and the seconds says bn.
save the file and restart the device. Netflix should work like a charm, and best of all, the Android Marketplace does not break. Although the market will think you have an HTC Vision
Modifying the build.prop file fixes the chimpmonk problem by the way.

For some reason, Root Explorer (and SU) don't think it's rooted. I see SU installed and when I launch it, it tries to update itself, and says something like "failed to update, probably from not being rooted - zip put on sd card, flash it in recovery."
Root Explorer doesn't give me my usual option to flip to R/W mode and edit files. I tried installing Busybox, too - and that thing complained about not being rooted as well.
So, dunno why - but this doesn't seem to think it's rooted. Odd, considering it all exists on the SD card.
Any clues?

READ THIS FIRST:After downloading "oxygenos_1.0.0.zip" you will notice that it contains a folder with two files:
oxygenos_1.0.0_flashable.md5
oxygenos_1.0.0_flashable.zip
Extract oxygenos_1.0.0_flashable.zip first, then copy it to the SD card, wipe, flash, etc.

Installation steps:
Please make sure all your data and files are backed up before commencing. Flashing OxygenOS onto CM does require a system wipe, so you will lose all of your data. We are actively working on an easier, more automated solution soon to be available, but for now the build must be flashed manually.
Please proceed only if you are confident in your abilities to flash a custom ROM. This guide exists to help you flash OxygenOS, but things can still go wrong if not followed correctly. While rooting and flashing will not void your OnePlus warranty, any damage caused by improper flashing is not covered under warranty.
The following instructions assume you have Fastboot and ADB installed.
Step 1
You first need to flash a recovery onto your device. We recommend using TWRP. Please download the recovery image to your computer. You can follow their instructions to flash recovery, or you can reference these steps:
Boot into fastboot mode. You can do this on your OnePlus One by holding down the power button and the volume up button. When you see the fastboot logo, connect your device to your computer.
In your terminal window, find the folder where you put the recovery image and run the following commands:
fastboot oem unlock (You can skip this step if your phone’s bootloader is already unlocked).
fastboot flash recovery <recovery.img>. Image file should be the TWRP recovery image.
fastboot reboot
You should now have the recovery installed.
Step 2
Copy oxygenos_1.0.0.flashable.zip to your phone. On a Mac, you can use Android File Transfer.
Step 3
Boot into recovery. You can do this on your OnePlus One by holding down both the volume down key and the power button.
Step 4
Once you are in the recovery interface, the first thing you want to do is a factory reset. Again, you will lose all your data so please make sure you have backed up everything before doing this.
Step 5
After the wipe, go to install and find oxygenos_1.0.0.flashable.zip. Confirm flash. This will flash OxygenOS onto your device.
Step 6
After the flash succeeds, you can reboot the device, which will take you to the new OxygenOS. Enjoy!
If you find yourself wanting to rollback to CM, Make sure you have TWRP or CM recovery on the device. Another factory reset will be needed before flashing unfortunately so make sure you backup all of you data.
