Archos 7.0 IT or Samsung Galaxy Tab - Gen8 General

I have all Archos gen 8 and one Samsung Galaxy TAB

Archos 70IT FTW, because I like cheap but quality stuff and under dog

I'm with you on the Archos (I have an Archos 70 so no surprise). Price was my biggest concern. The Samsung is several hundred dollars more or you have to get it with a contract and it is still more expensive up front for similar specs.
My thinking was that optimized Android tablets with Honeycomb are about from 6 months to a year away and I wanted one NOW so I would go as cheap as possible (within reason) and then upgrade next year. I really wanted to be able to use the Kindle app on a bigger screen compared to my phone.
I have not regretted my decision. The Archos 70 isn't perfect but it is the most fun device I have purchased since my first computer with a modem (2400 baud!) almost 20 years ago.

you can actually get a galaxy tab (verizon or sprint) for $500 right now from best buy off contract. that's the price of the wifi only version they haven't released. the only caveat is that you have to activate it for a month. so the final price is ~$530 depending on your carrier.
i've actually given up my a70 for the tab now. but i do have the a101, which replaced the a70's spot as my carputer.

I stopped by a T-Mo store in NYC a few days ago to pay my bill. And by chance, I asked the guy if they had a Tab to play with. He said they did, but they were "by request" cause they had already had one stolen.
So I played with it for a couple of minutes. Honestly, I prefer the design of the Archos. It is thinner, and lighter (in my opinion), and it just feels sturdier. But the software is where you can see the difference between the two devices. The Tab flies through menus and web pages and opening apps. The Archos is no slouch either, especially with the new update and it running at full 1 GHz, but the difference is noticeable.
That being said, the price of the Archos just CANNOT be beat. So I would stick to my Archos over the Tab.

When software is the weakness that is easy to fix. Changing launchers can speed up menus and launching apps. Changing the browser (Dolphin HD for example) can speed up web pages.

I've done all that, and still the difference in speed is noticeable between the two devices. It's a matter, in my opinion, of the level of polish that is put into the software. And why shouldn't Samsung have put more time into optimizing
Android for the Tab, they are a huge company with enough staff to dedicate to such a task.
Archos just released another update a few days ago. They are still in the process of optimizing Android and getting proper Flash on the device. Eventually, they will reach the level of optimization that Samsung has.
Again, i'm not knocking Archos, I think it's amazing what they've done with the Gen8 devices (design, battery life, price). But the reality still exists that software wise, the Tab is a step ahead right now.

yeah, launcher and browser replacments don't do much. they speed it up if you'r only doing 1 thing at a time and browsing only 1 tab, but still not galaxy tab speed. the gen 8's are not multitask friendly. but still, they beat galaxy in multimedia playback.

[Q] still interesting to buy galaxy tab

Hello people
I am looking to buy a tablet, and I can not afford the newest one simply because they are too expensive.
I may be able to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" and I was wondering if it was still worth it.
Is it the screen very responsive? Is it fast? Is 2.3 that important and should I look for a newer one, or is this product still good in terms of browsing the web, documents, some games, music?
And between this and the Toshiba Folio, bearing in mind the Folio is much cheaper, which would you pick? (or do you have another suggestion? I live in France)
Thank you for your answers
i've never heard of the folio before. i just googled it, hands off!
I also have little money. that's why i first imported the nook color (250$ + 120€ (shipping & german tax & customs)), its a very good tablet, bit I had problems with the display and I wanted a tablet with more connectivity (3g, gps, camera etc.)
I've sold the nook and bought the sgt used for 295€ at ebay.de.
it actually was cheaper than importing the nook and I hope that I will be happy with it.
I dont recommend any cheap android tablets, they all have a big list of cons. the only cheap android tablet you can get is the nook, but its only cheap if you live in the us.
i dont have my sgt yet, but from what i hear and i read its seams to be the most capable and cheapest high quality tablet out there.
The folio is highly recommended not to get! trust me toshiba sucks in the mobile industry. it has many bugs reported just like my TG01. They even cancelled the product line up here in the UK. Personlly i find my tab slow + laggy. You need a dual core tablet to power the mighty screen. I would get the HTC Flyer if i were you.
Mine flys
Stock the tab is fast enough to get work done. I did the KhasMek Voodoo Plus v3 OC kernal mod and the tab flys now. I have a Xoom also and this kernal for the SGT made it faster than my Xoom. The screen is also very responsive. Personally I think this is a fantastic tablet it just works with no fuss. Although, if I keep messing with it, that may no longer be the case. Mine is running 2.2 and I have no desire to put 2.3 on it any time soon. Not that it means allot Quadrant is running between 2100 and 2300 for my SGT. My Xoom runs it 1800 to 1900.
Good luck in your search.

I just got my Sprint Tab a couple of days ago and I love it. I already had an iPad but wanted something different and more portable. Its plenty fast and responsive and just really seems to hit the sweet spot for me.
I replace my Archos 70 8GB with Galaxy Tab Wifi ($390.- at local shop in Bangkok). It is much better than my Archos which I think it was a great product.
The screen is very responsive and the LCD quality is excellent (PLS technology).
I don't find it laggy at all. Only negative area is it can't play HD video. (Galaxy Tab 3G use more powerful CPU/Chip). It's superb in other areas.
The tab is rock solid on Froyo! Yes the stock lags at times but till date it had yet to crash or freeze...with Roto JMIv2 the thing flies!
Am absolutely in love with it and if I had the money I would buy another one...the 7 inch size and Froyo is darn good....I don't understand at all what the people who complain about Froyo being not optimized for tablet are talking about...!!! All apps I have loaded till date works great! I watch movies anime and tv show on this...my netbook is lying in storage since I got this and when on personal travel I shove the tab into the camera bag with the kindle and off I go...
Pop in a sim card and I can surf the net anywhere...much better than surfing on a tiny screen on a mobile phone...
Am never going to consider anything above 7 inch and without being SIM enabled.

I've had mine GT for about a month and really enjoy it. Easier to haul around than a Netbook, or in Ipad or Xoom even.
I had a Nook, but didn't like it as the screen was of cheap quality(the whites had a yellow tint to it(tried another, it was the same). The whites on the GT are WHITE no doubt about it. Build quality is very solid on the GT.
However, if you are on a budget, nook is fairly solid with the proper software roms.
But the GT is very solid and even with the release of the WIFI version only soon, it will bring even more users in the fold.
There is a lot of people holding off for the "Next best thing" but, honestly, I'd rather be playing and using something now, instead of waiting 6 months or so to play with something that May or May not kick ass.
Dive right in, the GT water is fine.
;
I believe Galaxy Tab is now the best 7" tablet in the market (Archos 70 is the second, IMO); both spec/performance-wise and build quality. The price is also coming down to a more acceptable level.
I don't see any new 7" model coming out in the near future. If you are looking for a portable table, Galaxy Tab won't disappoint you.
I had my Tab for 2 months now and couldn't be happier with it. I do have the Overcome ROM and over clocked to 1.2GHz so its not stock (512Mb RAM is a bit limited as only 200Mb is usable).
I did have a Dell Strek 5" and an ipad, sold both since I got the Tab. To me the size makes it very versatile, I can fit it into most of my jackets and cary it all day without any discomfort.
Also the only other 7" tablet is the Dell Streak 7 which has shorter battery life and poor screen viewing angle, both are deal breaker for me. Plus I'd prefer a device with more RAM than dual core CPU.
The HTC Flyer is not out yet, and will cost almost twice what the Tab is selling.
P.S. ASDA Direct is selling the Tab for £299.

well thanks for the answers! you guys still seem excited about it. and OMG I saw the overcome 1.4 video, FREAKIN RESPONSIVE I was like "omg i need one now"
sadly the deal I found is not up anymore so I cant seem to find one cheap enough...unless I wanna pay for the next 6 months (the link someone posted here is out of stock)
SGT has had bad press and is severely underrated. I blame Samsung for positioning it at too high a price initially, and the tech press for comparing it directly with an iPad - which it is not. It's still the best small format tablet available and in the UK at least is a bargain at £299 or so. You'd pay a lot more for a lesser smartphone. Good thing is that Samsung seem to have finally woken up to this fact, and their next tablet releases look a lot more competitive price-wise. I'd still buy one now if I lost it though, purely due to how useful it is.
At OP check out my thread, where you can find it damn cheap

Hey! Like I said it's out of stock, but thanks anyway
I have had my Tab for a while now and I love it. If I were you I would look for one on craigslist and one made for Tmobile. I say Tmobile because wth them you can use the tab with out getting a contract. I have heard that the sprint and verizon tabs force u to activate there's. And the size to me is great, a 10 inch screen just seems to big, if I wanted one that size I would just get a netbook. I also have the keyboard for it and the media dock which works great. I bought the media dock and keyboard from verizon and they gave me a discount for buying two accesories at once, so I saved some money.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
And once again I said I live in France. No craiglist and no Tmobile!
But I am looking into phone networks here.
Found it cheap on priceminister ! Yay!
Also one last question, of the ways to make it faster and more responsive, installing the custom rom Overcome is the only solution right? I got confused when reading the development threads...what else can one do?
OCLF installs the market. 2240 points in quadrant. This course if you know what you're doing and take that risk.
Sorry for my english, google translate
OCLF is a waste of time if you are on an EXT4 ROM.
Personally, i'm not convinced it does much on RFS ROMs either, other than improve the incredibly flawed Quadrant benchmark scores.
Regards,
Dave
I still use mine all the time despite buying the xoom. Works best in the car and as alarm clock.

Have tried out the 10.1v this week

Was lucky enough to get some hands on time with a pre release 10.1v at the gadget show live in the UK, along with the Xoom (both versions) and the Asus EEE Transformer. Probably spent a good 20 minutes running through the OS with the guy demoing the 10.1v and I have to say, it felt a seriously well made piece of kit.
I went to the show with the intention of buying either a Xoom, Transformer or an iPad 2 depending on my first experiences with Honeycomb, but I now think I'll wait for either the 10.1 or 10.1v; the contours and embossed back of the 10.1v made it very comfortable and light.
There was also a pre honeycomb version of what is to become the Iconica tab on the Acer stand but the unit itself left me massively underwhelmed.
As for the transformer; not impressed at all. It felt and looked like it was all bezel.
that's what i don't like about the Transformer.. too much bezel, but i guess that's because it has more ports, and maybe the SRS speakers add to it as well.. did you get to try out the speakers? are they any good?
I didn't think to really, it was at a massively busy exhibition and when I think of the use I'd get from a tablet I generally imagine I'd be using earphones.
One thing I would say is that the Xoom (and this isn't necessarily a bad thing) did feel noticeably heavier, but at the back if that makes sense.
Just seen that Vodafone Australia has opened up pre orders to start shipping 1st May so hopefully UK will follow suit today.
I bought a 10.1V last week... and I'm planning to return it back.
In general i liked it. A lot.
Honeycomb UI is quite good, well organized and easy to use.
It convinced me more than the Ipad.
I believe that with some bug fixes and optimization it could be very good for this use as tablet.
The Honeycomb version of chrome is quite decent.
It runs heavy pages full of pictures and embed videos very good, what is nice for those like me that pretend a tab most for web browsing.
But there a few things that I didn't like:
It lacks the SD card slot...
And unfortunately, I only found that V version is the only one without after open the box.
And it seems that does't have enough horsepower to run videos on HD!
It works... but not as smoothly as expected.
Also, multitask is not so multitask as I expected.
Most background applications are freezed, wich means for example changing from youtube videos to browser or even a new tab... sound stop playing.
Battery life is nice... but could be better.

HD playback issues are a know problem of Tegra 2 and "false" multitasking is due to Honeycomb. Are you gonna return Samsung Tab and wait for kal-el (quad-core Nvidia processor) and a more mature version of Honeycomb or you gonna just buy another tablet on the market? The complaints will remain if you follow the later option.

If 10.1V had the SD slot I would keep it...
The reason I bought a tablet was a compact solution for web browsing and media.
And the 10.1V would fulfill the objectives if it had more storage.
Now I really don't know.
The real 10.1 would be enought for now.. but probably only come to Portugal in the end of next month.
And I guess Kal-El based devices will only be available in the end of the year.
10.1 will come out in the US in June. Expect at least a month later here in Portugal.
The reason I haven't bought 10.1v is fear that Samsung won't release updates to it, which are necessary 'cause Honeycomb is still imature.

That's what this site is for
Although, I doubt there will be many developers for the 10.1V.
If only 10.1 ROM's worked on 10.1v...
Thanks for posting that dfelix, I've been wondering whether to get the 10.1v when it comes out over here in the UK.
I have to be honest, at the moment I'm pretty close to not bothering with any of the current crop of tablets. They're all "alright" but I think dropping that sort of money on something that is the equivalent of a 3 year old laptop in spec (weight aside) isn't that attractive now I've used most of them.
But that's sensible me. REAL me wants a thin 10.1v and an iPad 2 so I get the best of both worlds.

Whats the "best" coming from the iPad 2? i honestly cannot see why they are popular with the alternative 10.1 and XOOM
Apps, that's the best of ipad2. And its hardware dimension, also battery life.
Everything else are not that good in my opinion.
I own one, for my wife mainly while i am waiting the Samsung 8.9".
Stability, apps, weight. The whole ecosystem has massive flaws but I also think the iOS consumer base has a bigger draw for developers and manufacturers. Believe me, I HATE iTunes with a passion but I don't think you can fault their equipment that far. Xoom is heavy and the screen is rubbish. I've tried it on at least five occasions trying to convince myself it was ok, but it's just not.
I said in my other post I want a thin 10.1v, I mean the 10.1 obviously.
There seems to be a massive thing whereby you have to buy one or the other out of Android or iOS which I just don't understand.

Need some Advice - Which tablet to buy..?

Need advice on which tablet to get.
I can't seem to make the decision! (It's like picking paint, once you've seen so many, you cant decide...)
I've figured it's between the:
Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7500)
HTC Jetstream (although not available in Australia - Not sure how i'll tackle this)
Asus Transformer 3G
Can anyone who has used all three (or the transformer/galaxy tab) let me know how it feels, response wise?
I will be using it for business also (meetings, typing notes, etc).
I need 3G and at least 32GB storage (will go 64GB with Samsung 10.1)
Do not expect people who chose SGT 10.1 to recommend other tablets if they decided SGT was best for them.
I had similar choices and chose Samsung, a lot of threads to read for reasons.
Yeah, on this Forum, SGT10.1 will be the choice.
There really is little difference in terms of performance, since all the internals are more or less the same (Tegra2, 1GB RAM, Honeycomb 3.1). As for notetaking you have to go for HTC Flyer (7 inch) or wait for the Galaxy Note (5 inch).
For me, it was the form factor - slimmer, lighter, and ergonomically better (especially compared to the Transformer) that sold me to a SGT10.1. Then the brighter screen was a plus. If you cherish mobility, thumbs down SGT10.1.e
I can talk about the Jetstream and the G-Tab. I'll start with the Jetstream. It's extremely well made and Sense on it is pretty cool. It has a ton of well-done widgets and lots of options for personalization. Now for the bad. It weighs a ton, is oddly shaped which makes it tedious to hold, and HTC did a crap job with the video implementation and codecs. It's been out for months and there's still no accessories for it. It's fast at UI navigation, on par with the G-Tab at browsing, and worse at video because of the crap job HTC did. It's also insanely expensive. I had one for nine days and returned it.
When asking people about the G-Tab, you also need to ask how they use it. I use it to consume content, mostly while traveling. I use Plex and PlayOn for video streaming, Rhapsody for remote and local music, web browsing, e-mail, newspapers and magazines, productivity apps, and some light gaming. For that, it's teriffic. Samsung does the best of all the manufacturers with audio and video drivers including DRM support. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give overall performance an 8. It stutters and bogs occasionally but it's random and occurs less than 5% of the time. It's thin, light, has a gorgeous (if somewhat oversaturated) display, and has a lot of pretty cool optional accessories.
A lot of people will tell you to wait because there's better around the corner. The only possibilities in 2011 are the Toshiba AT200 and Transformer2. The Xoom 2 might also appear before the end of the year. They'll have better processors and maybe ICS but are expected to have the same resolution. Samsung's launching the 7+ and 7.7 in November/December with 3.2 vs. ICS so who knows what the other new tablets will have.
Others can discuss the Transformer but I'd definately pick the G-Tab vs. the Jetstream. If you can wait until December or Q1 2012 you might have better options but for now (IMHO) the G-Tab's the best of what's out there in the 10.1 category.

Great comparison! - Quick question (I could probably find this out if i searched)... Will the Galaxy 10.1 get ICS in the future? I know some say might say yes and some might say no, but has anything been announced saying GT10.1 will get ICS?
Me personally...I make a list of devices to choose from (like you did), then I look around XDA for the device with the best support, the most activity, the nicest ROMs, and stuff like that. I was between the Transformer and the 7510, and I chose the Galaxy. Loving it. Not sure how the 7500 holds up, but from what I know, I'd go with the Galaxy.
(Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of good out there for the transformer too)
It's probably 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

I guess Samsung could go one of two ways:
1) Introduce a G-Tab 10.1+ with a better processor, higher res display, and ICS leaving everything else pretty much the same. In the process they'd leave the original Tabs on 3.X. This would obviously piss all us early adpoters off enormously.
2) Since they're still rolling out the 8.9 and 10.1 in a lot of the world and its always been the tablet priced closest to the iPad, they introduce ICS as soon as possible to improve the user experience (existing and new) to continue to try to steal Apple's marketshare. This would make existing customers happy and allow them to get more mileage out of their investment in the 8.9 and 10.1.
Obviously, I'm rooting for number two and Samsung's always been fairly customer-centric so number one wouldn't fit their historical behavior. But, to answer your question, there's been no commitment by Samsung to upgrade either the 8.9 or 10.1 to ICS. The 7+ and 7.7 are supposed to launch on 3.2 and there's been no mention of ICS for them either. The Toshiba AT200 is launching with 3.2 and I don't think anything's been confirmed for the Transformer2 yet. From what I've read, both Honeycomb and GB apps have to updated to work on ICS. Even if ICS was released tomorrow, there's tons of work app developers and the OEM's have to do. So I'm guessing its first appearance on a tablet will be later rather than sooner. If I were a manufacturer I'd see how the Nexus Prime faired in the wild before I started migrating devices to ICS. Historically, Google devices (Nexus, et. al.) have always come out with a new OS months before its generally released/available. It's due out this month or next which could mean Q1 before other devices start to appear or get upgraded. Bottom line is your guess is as good as mine.
How about the OIL SLICK issue on the sgs tab
I just made this decision and got the tab 10.1
Reviews pretty consistently call it the current best. It is slimmer and lighter by far then the other two you mentioned. etc etc.
I knew about the oil slick, but from what I have read in hear I think Samsung has a fix for it. So I don't think new models will have the issue. I think B6 and B7 have the issue, and the one I just got two days ago was a B9. I think the number indicates the month, i.e. june, july, sept.
So my vote was Tab 10.1. To compensate for the lack of sd, I got the 32gb version. Yep, their plan worked..

Few early devices had them, I had it on mine but Samsung replaced the screen under warranty and no issues after that. So if you are buying now you should be fine since Samsung would have fixed the issue in the new batches.

My New Xoom 3/4g

I bought the Xoom when it first came out. I was one of the lucky ones that got a 25% off promotion. Since then I have bought and sold an iPad 2, bought and returned a Toshiba, Asus, and Acer tablet. All the while keeping the Xoom. I bought a New iPad and have an Archos 80G as an Android backup.
Now that my Xoom has been updated to ICS I can say the Xoom has been and is still my favorite tablet. Other than the display, which is good, the Xoom is on par with the New iPad.
When the Xoom first came out there wasn't much software available. The Android tablet software has grown greatly. Although the IOS has more software, there isn't much that I need or want beyond the 80 or so apps I have on my Xoom.
The improvements provided by ICS make the Xoom a more enjoyable and reliable tablet that has the feel of quality throughout.
Congrats Motorola!

It's so nice to get your take on it. This is a really fine tablet, and I wholeheartedly agree, it is so much better than when it was first released. It has always been extremely well built, but the improvements in the OS, the available apps, and custom ROMS, kernels, recoveries, modifications and goodies developed for it have made this tab absolutely stellar!
I too have an Ipad, and I always ALWAYS pick my Xoom up before the ipad.
Hands down, browsing,emailing,watching
16:9>*****
Apple fanboys still swear that 4:3 is a better format, how they can say that, I have no clue..
I agree 16:9 takes some time to get used to, but once you do, portrait mode browsing is a FREAKING DREAM!!!
When I first got my Xoom with honey comb, the Ipad was slightly better performance wise (Ipad 1 by the way)
But the little lag didn't bother me..
The day I got ICS installed I couldn't believe the difference, the xoom was screaming fast, lag was non existence.. I still swear the Xoom is at the top of the list of tablets, with my T-mobile HSPA+42 (15 down-3 up average, 23 down max) I can tether to my xoom anywhere and have a mini computer with me at all times.
I also LOVE the build of the Xoom, Motorola swung for the fences with this and hit a homerun, no other tablet IMO has the quality feel to it, it's heavy, gorilla glass, great feel.
I don't have any complaints really about this tablet, but I agree, the colors aren't as vivid as the Ipad, but unless I'm comparing side by side you would never know.
In closing I just recently put EOS 2.0 on my xoom and overclocked it to 1.4 (can go all the way to 1.7) and my quadrant scores 3x have been 3900-4100
top of the list
I also own an ipad, latest version. The screen is absolutely the best, battery life is very good, the browser is still faster bring up pages than the Xoom on ICS. Unfortunately, without a file manager I find iOS really lacking. Maybe the average user for reading, browsing and movies doesn't need it, I do.
At first my ipad3 replaced my Xoom completely. Then, after trying to find where I put files related to a job site, I started carrying my Xoom at work and ipad at home. Now, I rarely pickup the ipad. I rather use the ipad as I find the screen is that good and I will pick it up if I know I'm going to be reading/browsing for an extended period but the Xoom is really my go to device.
Maybe google will make a hi-resolution screen tablet. Or, maybe iOS 6 will surprise us next week with a file manager.

Xoom vs Xoom 2 (Xyboard 10.1) vs iPad 3 on Verizon LTE

Over the last few months I've decided to get a Verizon Tablet. I have a RAZR MAXX (Considering MAXX HD, HTC DNA or iP5) and have played musical tablets recently.
I really dislike paying full price for things and usually pickup my gadgets from deal sites, eBay or Craigslist.
My first entry into tablets was the HTC Flyer, it was far from smooth and I sold it quickly.
I then got a great deal on a Xoom. I liked the concept. I installed Jelly Bean, Overclocked it a bit for some extra oomph. I felt it was still a bit too slow and heavy.
I traded up to a XYBoard 10.1 (Xoom 2) with ICS and I like it a lot better. Its much slimmer and noticeably quicker...though the rotate takes FOREVER!
I ended up finding a 2 month old iPad 3 64GB LTE with a smart cover thing for $500. I just had to get it. I was hoping it'd be the pinnacle of smoothness and freedom from glitches....its not.
I do think the web browser runs much much smoother than Android, but its not perfect, there are page and image reloads. Its also not that much faster on page loading than the Xyboard, sometimes getting beat by it.
I do have to say, the screen is absolutely gorgeous. I've complained about low quality and low resolution displays since 1998, its one of my major pet-peeves.
The iPad is super super clear.
I'm at a bit of a loss. I haven't played with the iPad long enough to make up my mind, but I feel like there's so much it can't do that i didn't even give a second thought to on Android.
Anybody here come from an Apple product or switch to one?

I have an iPad 2 and a Xoom 2 Media Edition with ICS...
iPad 2 is a far, far, far smoother ride... There is no comparison whatsoever, rotation, screen lock, battery life (Xoom 2 you need to enter airplane mode if you don't want it to suck battery in standby, iPad 2 will use much less battery in standby with connections active), apps for tablets are way better (take for instance any magazine that is published using Adobe tools, Adobe Content Viewer in Android sucks and lacks lots of features and most magazines interactive features doesn't work), games are way better and the list goes on and on and on...
But, Xoom 2 was a real bargain. I needed a second tablet, lighter and smaller, I was going to wait for the iPad Mini, but a TelCo in Brazil had a really amazing offer, contract free Xoom 2 ME costing the equivalent to 140 bucks (considering the prices of other tablets in comparison to the US.), brand new, WiFi and 3G, 32GB onboard memory...
Considering what I paid, it is really awesome. Taking money out of the equation, I consider an iPad way better for my tablet use (mostly media and games, e-book and Comics reading, magazines, music, web browsing). I already have a Galaxy Nexus and use it for work and all the advantages that Android have over iOS, IMHO, I can use in my phone, and, use a way smoother and better experience for what I do with a tablet with an iOS device.
Even if you consider Nexus 10, it still has all the "tablet issues" that plague Android for ages, and that are taking way too much time to get solved... That Adobe Content Viewer issue I've mentioned is known since the original Xoom launched, Premium Game Producers (and Apps as well) do not see Android as a priority and usually ports take ages and sometimes sucks, if the App/Game is ported...
Now, a lot of people might argue about freedom, I can install whatever I want from whatever source I want (good luck finding Infinity Blade or an ICS/JB compatible Peggle or any decent music playing game experience that sound doesn't take a while to play after you touched the virtual instrument, etc), better Google services integration (that is a fact, but I use my mobile phone to take advantage of that), Widgets, replacing keyboard, lock screen, possibility to transfer media and do not use iTunes, etc... If those are important factor in a tablet for you, then, Android it is, if it is not, but you favor premium content, overall smoothness, iPad is miles ahead in that department...
My biggest complaint so far is trouble finding a good YouTube player and the slow app store. I'm starting to like this ipad more and more.
I think it might be wise to stick to Android for phones though.
Well I really like the smoothness of the ipad, but I missed a few emails because I have a smart cover and it unlocks right away. I didn't see the app icon counter and there is no static icon or anything to signal you to pull down the notification bar.
I grabbed my Android phone and of the blinking status light wasn't enough, there was a mail icon in the notification bar telling me something happened.
I like the smoothness, but I really don't like missing things because I wasn't using it at the exact moment the email came in.
