[Q] Idea: Flash - Android Software Development

What i dont understand is why there is no standalone flash player, like a mp4 player.
Application that will grab videos from webpages and view them in the player
It will be faster using hardware acceleration
And it would work on any version of android.

The Flash Player is proprietary of Adobe Corp., and licensed by them. If you want to use the technology's source, you have to pay them a lot. And also, the ARMv6 CPUs (what can be found in most of the Android devices) do not support full flash, as they miss some given instructions, what are in ARMv7 (thus, those phones can play flash).
You can't simply drop together a Flash player, because
a, You need the source (what isn't available)
b, You need the instructions set (what is only available under ARMv7 (ARM Cortex A8), and for those phones, there's already a player)
So simply, it isn't possible.

lets say i have a milestone 2.1
with a A8 processor
now i cant play flash player
to my knowledge the flash videos are in .flv format correct?
VLC player for desktop plays flv so whats the problem with android?

Flash Video (FLV) and Flash are two different technologies. For FLV playback, you need a codec of it, what is, of course, basically not part of AOSP android. If you dug yourself through a Samsung Galaxy S firmware, you will find the matching .so files, and also, edit /etc/pvplayer.cfg and include the flv indexes from the GalaxyS file.

i'm not a software creator so i cant make software
but there could be made a player that Catches FLV videos from the browser and then plays them?

Which media software is better to watch movie in X1??

anyone can post out the media software to watch x1?? i want it performance smooth n doesnt hv delay..thx
Million plus first reply for this topic:
Built-in media player is the best, since it is the only one (well, together with WM player) with full HW support.
Next best would be core player, with partial HW support. But generally you can't play any one CD AVI fluently.
Yes, you must recode the movie into mp4. Simple tool for that is described in this sticky thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467590
Just use coreplayer and you dont have to convert
what abt flv movies? i cant seem to get tcpmp nor core player to play flv movies.. anything else is fine..
core player plays some flv movies
which version? i got the 1.30 version and it kept giving me errors..
depends on FLV codec version

[Q] Coreplayer for near HD mp4 files

First I know this is not an issue if I install Android. However my android build booted up only once and not again and also messed my WMo so I'm not going that route (at least for now) till Android on NAND is a possibility (or even WP7?).
I have some MP4 files that are just large (1024x560). Coreplayer handle normal MP4 files just fine (like the Transformer movies) but can't play the large MP4 files. It complains H.264 codec not found but I believe Coreplayer supports H.264 natively. Here comes the question:
1. Is there anyway to go around the software limitation? I tried the same files on my wife's vibrant and they play just fine so hardware-wise, HD2 is capable to handle the playback.
2. If Coreplayer's software limitation cannot be circumvented, is there another media player for windows mobile 6.5 that can handle this situation?
Thank you for your input!
Well after some searching and research, here is what I have found:
1. The software limit for coreplayer is built in stone, and cannot be circumvented. Also the developers have seemingly stopped the development of that software package.
2. The best replacement I found is this (TCPMP):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5685536
It seems to be a little slower than coreplayer when playing transformers on my HD2, which suggests coreplayer actually does get some kind of hardware acceleration. It doesn't matter that much as (1) I won't use the phone to watch those movies (I have BD discs for both) (2) it still doesn't fix my original problem.
Any recommendation for other video player for WM6.5? I tried VLC (program doesn't start) and mplayer (can't browse file) so those are pretty useless.
CoreAVC supports QuadHD... so the limitation was us limiting the resolution for performance purposes. We removed the limitation in CorePlayer 2.0 as many devices can now handle the resolution without issues.
From what I can gather, coreplayer 2.0 is not released yet, and there is no plan to develop that for Windows Mobile 6.5 as the platform is officially dead.
Is that correct?
I think I have found the answer: android + rockplayer

[Q] Video Playback Problem

So I just got the new Epic from Sprint, and I just put on some videos. All of them work, EXCEPT FOR ONE.
I had recently created a video using Adobe Premiere in CS5. It output to MP4 with AVC/AAC (LC) codecs. It plays fine on my computer, my Samsung TV, and even my Samsung Blu-ray player (they all have USB ports for digital media), but no luck with the phone. The phone says displays "unsupported file type," and promptly returns to the gallery.
I have looked at the posted file and codec support, and so I converted copies of the original file to:
MP4: H.264, AAC
MKV: H.264, AAC
DIVX: AVI, MP3
But they all yield the same disappointing result: "unsupported file type." What else could I possibly try to make this play?
P.S. The supported file and codec list that I found is located here (apparently, I don't yet have enough posts for the site to let me link to the rest of the internet):
*ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=0&AT_ID=316039&PROD_SUB_ID=0&PROD_ID=559&EMAIL_ID=*
Go to the market and download RockPlayer
Technically, the player was successful in opening the video, since it has a choice of "software decoding" and "hardware decoding" mode. "Software decoding" mode made the video lag the audio big time (>1 sec into playback before lag started). Selecting "Hardware decoding" mode for the file returns the error "This file cannot be played with System Player." After some digging on the company's website, it says that the "software decoding" mode can play just about anything, and while the System Player integrated into Android itself can only play a limited list of files, the System Player can use hardware acceleration.
So the question of the day becomes, is there a media player app that doesn't rely on the System Player for hardware acceleration?
Rockplayer is it...
What is the resolution of your video? 1080p? 720p? (1080p wont work from what I hear..even though Hummingbird does support it :/)
Also, is your audio 5.1? try removing the audio from your file and see if the video works.
Yeah, the video was coded into 1080p. The software decoding mode will play it, but it lags a lot. If Hummingbird CAN handle the hardware decode, then my issue is with the Android System Player's ability to use the hardware, right? If so, is it that Android doesn't like 1080p period, or is it a matter of using a separate program that CAN use the hardware effectively?
The audio plays without a hitch. It's coded for just simple stereo.

Yes the 1080p is your issue..software decode is always a lot slower..while the Hummingbird does support 1080p, either Samsung did not include the drivers to make it happen or it is an Android limitation I am not sure...but its 100% in the Hummingbird specification..so its not impossible... just someone has to figure out how lol
For now your best bet is to re-encode it to 720p and you will be fine.

[Q] Music/video-Codecs

Hello,
I am looking for some mediacodecs like .avi and so on.
A friend of me has all codecs on his Archos 32 Internet Tablet with android.
Is it possible to get the codecs as a pack or something like that for the HD2(Android)?
Don't know of any external codecs for android (doesn't mean they don't exist - just not to my knowledge) or how the stock player could use them (doesn't mean it can't - but I don't believe it can).
AFIK, Archos includes its own media player with internal codec support. I'm not aware of that player being ripped from any of their tablets and if it was it would likely be missing dependancies as well as being illegal - but I could be wrong.
Your best solution is probably to use one of the android media players currently on the market. People say good things about Rockplayer, I know Mplayer has been ported, and my personal favorite Vplayer has played everything that I've thrown at it...xvid avi's, mpeg, and mkv files. I hope this helps...

RockChip RK3066, videoView, MKV and subtitles

Hi folks, this is a very specific question but I'm just not able to find any kind of answer...
We are developing an app that can stream movie files over a network and play them progressively (as many other players do like MXPlayer, etc). This will be used for a hotel PPV system and will be run on those Android HDMI sticks with RockChip RK3066 systems.
The client's requirement is to have the video files encoded in MKV format, with several audio and subtitle tracks to cater for international guests. And the video player must be integrated, cannot rely on an external player.
So, we looked to vitamio, which is a multimedia library that can handle MKVs with subtitles... But performance is horrible, juddery playback, cannot use HW acceleration, etc
But, we then found that the videoView that comes with the device, is able to handle MKVs, plays smoothly up to 720p resolutions, AND shows the subtitles. Since stock android videoView does not do this, I can only assume Rockchip has supplied a modified version.
Unfortunately, we are not able to find any documentation on how to list available audio and subtitle tracks, and how to select different ones.
So, tl;dr; version: does anyone know how to get this videoView to change subtitle and language tracks?
Many thanks,
Thomas
