I miss the notification light so bad - Nexus S General

Seriously, I'm already really missing the blinking trackball of my Nexus One flashing ever second in different colors depending on what notification I have.
No Led is sort of working, but when I hit the power button it just turns the screen off and then the icon is there again, so I have to kind of hold it just long enough for it to turn the screen back on, but not long enough to make it launch the dialogue box in which i can choose to put it in airplane mode or power it off.

I suspect it won't be long before someone figures out how to put a part of that OLED screen to use as a notification light...

Try NoLED (10 chars)

Im also just waiting for some sort of wonderful notification app that most likely WILL be created soon

Better, imo, since NoLED drains more battery than this.

Does anybody read?
I said I AM using NoLED but it's giving me problems.
dinan, that app says it's only for 2.1...would it still work?

You have to hit the Home button to show the lock screen.

There's a froyo link, but no that's meant for the Galaxy S international version. I was just pointing it out because I think someone will port it to the Nexus S soon, so I don't suggest trying it on your phone just yet.

Thanks. That helps, but I guess the way NoLED works is that it turns on the screen each time you ask it to blink...and with the Nexus S there's that stupid screen off animation. So that keeps happening everytime it works lol. Any way to turn that off?

screen does not shut off after timeout

so I put the dimming to be after 30 seconds, which works.
however I put it to shutdown the scree after one minutes, however it stays on forever, unless I physically press the hang up key, the screen will be on all the time.
the other question I have.
2- When I search on google, and press on one of the results in opera it takes me to the definition page, rather than the actual result that I wanted
3- is there a fix for LED notification, I installed the cab to fix that, but it didnt make a difference.
4- the pink spot at the middle, I searched around but didnt see any real solution
can anyone help please
regards
While I can't offer any help, I can feel your pain! I too am experiencing this f**ing event! I placed in my pocket before boarding for a 6 hour flight yesterday and found it still powered on when the flight had ended. I had just enough power to make and receive a call! Great.
I've double/triple checked my settings after this same thing happened to me previously! WTF!
edved.
i had the same problem what you need to do is to change the screen light setting in the settings menu

Ok. I'll try your suggestion, but please tell me what the screen light setting should be?
Thanks.
just go to the backlight settings, tap ok and it seems to be fixed..
(but offcourse check if is set to turn off after a minute or whatever your needs are)
I experienced this yesterday.. just like in normal windows, some functions just stop working with no particulair reason.. I don't really worry about it.. probably fixed in the next rom.. same sometimes happens with the screen lock, sometimes it's gone.. also after reboot, althought I find it more convient that way, it can be fixed by locking the device manually.. this does proof we can disable the device lock somewhere, I really don't need it in the case I use, the power button is enough..
good tip to always push the power button before putting the device away.. saves a lot of battery too then to wait for the minute before it powers of by itself.. the large screen is the battery's biggest consumer.. this way you also don't have to trust the automatic power off.
problem is pushing the power is not enough.
because if there were any even that woke the phone up, it will never shut down the screen unless you saw it, and do it manually

no the automatic power down is seperate from the screen lock, but for some reason they connected it with the automatic power down and left the options to choose out.

help please? brightness is stuck at 0. extended control power widget

hey i downloaded extended control power widget. and when i pressed the brightness button. the screen went black and touch doesnt seem to respond (tried tapping the same place to bring it back...)
the phone is still awake as i can hear lock sounds and such. but i cant get brightness back up at all.
is there a way to fix this? i would assume adb or something
or possibly a script i could load on reboot into android?
Try holding your phone under a very bright light and play a little with the angle. You should see your widgets. This fixed it for me
Try this:

it only does that when i have NoLED installed, with missed alerts enabled
as in it goes back to sleep, then every now and then it flashes for like 1 sec, then goes back to sleep to conserve battery

no, it's not. the phone is completly turned off! then you press on/off button rapidly, and the screen flashes
Uh... I don't feel like powering my Nexus off to test but why do you care? It's probably firing up the display thinking you're about to turn it on but then you don't hold down the button long enough so it just turns the display back off. Why would you ever want to do this lol... at least with this phone you have to hold the power button down a few secs to turn it on unlike the nexus one, which just turns on at the slightest press of the power button (annoying)

How about you don't press the power button rapidly. There is absolutely no reason why you should be doing that. Its like saying "When I try to drive my car on its roof, it won't go!" Well of course not you sod. Just don't do the thing that is pointless and silly.

EXACTLY! same thing i feel. OP is making a big deal out of nothing; not even sure why you would try and push the power button fast when the phones off.
how hard can it be to understand, let's make a guide:
1. Turn your phone off
2. Press the on/off button a couple of times
3. look at the screen, is it flashing white?
I noticed this last night when i turned the phone off, i didnt do it on purpose.
So can someone please try because im worried thats something wrong with my new nexus!
Thanks
Just to satisfy your curiosity, I can confirm that mine doesn't do what you're saying.

First off, I can't reproduce it and I'm not going to waste any more time trying.
Second, here is a guide for YOU!
1) You accidentally did something silly to your phone and got a strange result.
2) Don't do that again.
3) Continue to not do the stupid pointless thing again.
4) Continue to continue not doing the stupid pointless thing again.
5) Continue to continue to continue not doing the stupid pointless thing again.
6) Stop trying to convince people this is a serious issue and get on with your life.
7) Realize that there is nothing wrong you just did something stupid with it and are continuing to try to reproduce the stupid thing you did once to prove that its a problem instead of avoiding the stupid thing you did once and getting on with your life.
To the OP: does it flash when you don't have the battery in? Just want to make sure... heh.

How do I disable do not disturb?

Problem:
Phone in my pocket, volume down gets bumped into. The next 3 hours I won't get any notifications. This is incredibly annoying and frustrating.
How in the world can I disable volume down activating do not disturb while the screen is off?
First, the power button has to be bumped first, then the volume down button (various times). Too much bumping.
get a case

The power button does not need to be bumped.
While the phone is sleeping (screen off + short wait), press volume down either once or twice and it will go into do not disturb mode. I can also put on full volume while it's sleeping as well.
Tried what you said. Doesn't happpen to me. Using stock rom.

Issue has just came back. Restarting the phone makes it go away. Seems like we have found a solution! I'll keep a log of how often this happens here.

Which rom are you using? Is Double tap to Wake enabled? Are you using an app to lock the screen? Maybe that app is not locking the screen initially but displaying a black image for a short time before turning the display off.

Stock rom.
Ambient display is disabled.
No App. It did this stock out of the box
RMA would be a better option.
Problem has come back! a week delay this time
I would love an option to disable it on the phone entirely I never use it anyway and it occasionally gets turned on by mistake and I end up missing calls.
Found this in another forum - change DND priority settings to allow calls and messages from anyone. Should fix it!

display won't stay off

I have a s7 att with all latest firmware and updates. When I'm in a call using bluetooth and I press the power button to turn the display off so I can slide it into my pocket. The display goes black then wakes again after about 3 seconds. Tried a factory reset, reboots and general troubleshooting. Even smart stay and proximity sensor. Even changed my case in case something was triggering it...
Any assistance?

The only work around I have found is to hit the home button, or leave the call app in any way, then lock the screen.
This is SUPER annoying!!!

This bug still sucks and needs to be fixed though
I do that, i can litterly press the power button and screen will go black. Then a few seconds later its back on.
