I take back everything negative I said about the Nexus S. This is one sexy device. - Nexus S General

I'm just loving it so far! So thin and light, and the curved screen is just bad-ass.

I'm with ya man, this thing rocks!!

I lol'd at the title. But I agreeeee this phone is so dam SEXY! I think the high gloss plastic back and the curved glass with the anti-fingerprint coating looks extremely slick.

After so much of hue and cry seems like you have come to the senses Nevertheless its never too late ;-)

The device is very nice! Best I have ever owned, my Vibrant is very jealous xD

I love this phone it's just to dam sexy. Its not perfect but its dam close. Sleek, Sexy, Stylish with pure Google. My best download speed on 3g is just over 5mb. Love this phone.

I wasnt going to get one because of no 4G, but I picked up a G2
and realized the G2 didnt seem to be any faster than the Nexus One.
So I sold the G2 friday and bought a Nexus S saturday (still have the N1).
Yep. Its really nice.
I love the screen closing just like a TV does.
All they had was lavender neoprene cover/protectors at the BB Mobile.
So girly, but I do need a case.
Anyone find a decent rubber case yet ?
I need a thin one so the phone will still fit in the belt carry case.

I wish I could be saying the same thing right now...*sniffle*
/me pets his Nexus One while a single tear rolls down his cheek
Curse you bestbuyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Just wondering, does the Nexus S come with the little Android pouch like the Nexus One?

nope.
Phone, sim card, booklet, battery, usb, and chager.

Thank jeebus I still have my 'little pouch'!! I love this thing, and pretty sure I'm gonna be using it with most of my phones in the future.....I hope the Nexus S fits, anybody with both care to share whether or not it will work with the Nexus S???

i love to show off my stunning display and sleek body of the phone. plastic has never looked so sexy

I use my old G1 pouch case! (Fits great) I think the N1 case is a tad short.

Lol I had to stop in to see if new NS owners really did like their phone... I would have like this phone except not having 4g ( the biggest wft mistake by samsung), horrible plastic build quality, no micro sd ( really samsung? my nokia e71 from 5 years ago had micro sd slot) and no hdmi out makes this phone a serious epic fail. I feel sorry for you guys since you bought a phone that is already way behind the curve and obsolete. I mean honestly like cnet, phandroid and gizmodo have stated, besides gingerbread this phone is nothing special and in many way not that much of an upgrade from the N1. Before you guys attack me just think...almost every phone that has come out in the past 6 months will have your precious gingerbread including my G2, but you will never experience 4g which is clearly the future of cell phones... just some food for thought.

I could care less about your HDMI out and microSD with all the cloud talk making its way. When u get your beloved g2 on gingerbread ill be enjoying honeycomb. Did you miss the review saying that the Nexus S "is the best android device on the market currently." You complaining about cheap plastic build confirms my assumption that you didnt even get the phone in your hands and your ragging on it. Plastic? Yes. Cheap feel? None whatsoever.

Alright, I'll ask a serious question, what is the real use case for having 4G on your phone that makes it a "must have"? I totally understand wanting to be in an area that has been upgraded, more capacity = better experience, but what exactly will 4G provide for you on a daily basis on your phone?

Nexus one envy

So I just played with an N1 for the very first time and must say I wish this phone had come to Sprint as planned a few months back.
While I love my Evo there's just something about the N1 I like more. The trackball for notifications is wicked and the size is just right. I love the size of the screen on Evo but after all this time I still can't get comfortable using it as a phone.
Anyone else wish the Nexus were available as a cdma?

Nexus/Evo same phone pretty much. The nexus has a amoled display and stock Android 2.2. Other than that the Evo is the same thing as the nexus pretty much just with a few upgrades and extras when it comes to hardware, so in actuality, you sort of already have a nexus one sort of on steroids

Wait until the N2 comes out then you'll really have phone envy. That thing is prime to be a benchmark just as the N1 was
I had the nexus 1 and gave it to my girlfriend when the evo came out. I am a sense lover so i liked the evo a lot when it came out. Stable Sense wasnt ported to the n1 at that time. Now though whenever i hold my girls n1 i am envious. It feels perfect in the hand. Yes i like the trackball too. great for typos in the middle of a sentence. all the different trackball notifications are great too. A differnt color for every scenario. i loved the N1 docks (home and car) too. The only thing i disliked about the n1 was the screen. While it looked great indoors, outside you couldnt see anything, I mean nothing at all. It was like the screen was turned off. the N1 has some crazy talented devs too. Cant wait till next week. Hopefully the Nexus 2 rumor isnt a rumor and it'll be available with gingerbread next week.
Yeah I felt the N1 its nice in hand but once you go 4.3 you cant go back.
I would give up my Evo for a Nexus One any day... I love that phone!!! =)
Still wish I could have one, but they are really hard to find and quite expensive! Even after all this time!

The nexus 2 isn't coming out next week >< I read where it was just delayed due to hardware issues.
Besides, it's made by samsung...so IMO either get a nexus 1 or stick with the evo.
The Nexus2 or Nexus S so its called... will likely not hold a candle to either. All the hype from Samsung about the galaxy S phones and none of them are all the good.... in fact I think they are just now getting froyo.. imagine how long it will take for them to get gingerbread... if they ever do!
Sorry for the rant, but IMO there will never be another phone as good as the nexus1

I'm with ya. I'm fairly anti-samsung when it comes to Android phones. They just feel cheap and have always had very limited support by the development community and Samsung themselves. Not very experienced with moto androids but HTC builds a pretty reliable Android phone.

+1 I love HTC phones, I will say that sometimes their build quality feels rushed.. but they pump out a lot of phones. My hero and evo have had great DEV support and HTC does a pretty decent job with updates.
Samsung, IMO, is the worst when it comes to quality, dev support and updates... it's just not a good idea to have samsung make a 2nd generation nexus IMO... so so sad
i cant say i like the galaxy series, the epic feels cheap and somewhat clunky to me, htc phones have their problems as well but i'd take htc over sammy any day, it seems crazy that just a few years ago htc was selling great phones left and right and still reporting quarterly losses, now they seem to be doing better then ever and it looks like they are really starting to step it up when it comes to developing sense, hopefully they will only pick up more steam
I had the nexus one the day it came out..payed the 529 plus tax n was loving it..it was a very snappy phone running cyanogen 5..update were awesome..trackball notificatons were cool..but basically the evo is the big brother of the nexus one..evo is the ROOT of HTC

I tried out the nexus one for 30 days on at&t early this year when I was still an iphone user and must say the N1 is the DAMN SEXIEST PHONE EVER MADE! I ended up sending mine back because I couldn't justify spending $500+ on a phone. Even though I still miss the hell out of that phone I'm not sure I could get up my evo's bigger screen and 4G data.

The botched touch screen was a serious deal breaker for me with the Nexus. I had one for a while, and I liked it, but I can't go less than 4.3 now. I just can't.
The only thing I love about the N1 is the fact that it gets lightning fast updates.
Engadget just posted an article starting the nexus one will be getting gingerbread in the next few days! That is one thing to admire about it
What about the kickstand! If the nexus had a kickstand and front facing camera .... oh boy I would be tempted to get it. (Again) had the nexus before got bored of vanilla. Just flash cyanogen 6.1 on the evo. There you go you have a nexus minus the trackball. I mean if I had a nexus that's the rom I would run. Might as well. Same same.

to my point of view is that the g2 is and will be the high end phone of tmobile for a long time, period. nexus s is not that OMG, plus the only really good thing is that comes with gingerbread... other than that... well... is a Samsung lol
Well the g3 will be better then the nexus s for sure! My point being that there will always be a better phone comming out soon. Get what you want! Me i love keyboards and the g2 is the best one out. Good luck.

People shouldn't worry about if or when gingerbread is coming out on the G2. We have a very strong dev. section and backing of the greatest coders period. If you don't believe me then look at the Mytouch4G developmental thread and you quickly take note that topics of the 1st page date back a week. The G2 is successor of the god father of android.
OP, do you want a keyboard, a T-Mobile protection plan, LED notifications, or 4G. Yes, the Nexus S has a 16gb storage capacity but that only tells me that google has finally fixed the problem of android only viewing 2gb of available internal memory. At least I hope so because if they didn't then there will be alot of Nexus S owners upset that their device only claims 1.2 gb of internal memory.
The only device I see ever knocking the G2's crown off is the G3.
it really seems like samsung is rebadging their galaxy s phone to every carrier... this one has gingerbread but it's only a short time until every other high end phone gets gingerbread too. Samsung is actually skipping 2.2 with this release though. good for them ~_~
EDIT: where the hell is all this g3 talk coming from? is this something I haven't seen yet or is it all hypothetical
P.s. op, the overclock on this phone is fcuking fantastic.

Hypothetical, just stating that the phone is really good and would probably only be succeeded by a G3.
I will keep this device until the g3 comes out for sure. This is a great device and samsung has a horrible build quality IMHO. The only thing Samsung has over the G2 is their 4" Super AMOLED screen. G2 has a respectable 3.7" Super TFT and is comparable, just smaller but not by much...

I'll admit, I got a little excited when I saw the new Nexus was coming out...then I saw it was S and not 2...and that it was made by Samsung...and then that it wasn't the true successor the Nexus 1.
It's like meeting a really hot woman...and finding out she's a dude...with a bigger penis that you...and he's a minor...and your best friend already dated him...and he has a better car than you...and your last gf left you for him/her.
Just utter disappointment and disgust all around. If Sammy was going to plaster a name like Nexus on a phone, they should have done a hell of a lot better than the Nexus S.
Until the G3 comes out (which will probably have a dual-core, more memory, a keyboard, ice cream, be 4.5" SMIAAMOLED (Super Massive Incredibly Awesome Amoled) and wouldn't use the Nexus S to eat it's morning cereal, then I'm sticking with my G2.
Plus, I finally own a phone all the best devs work on, and that makes me a happy guy.

I miss my Nexus s :(

I got the lg g2x (ugly phone)on release date.
Since i was eligiable for an upgrade i decided to go with the g2x after reading all the reviews and specs i gave my wife the NS
5 days after
I miss the screen
How the NS Feels on my hand
G2x is fast but i havent really notice nothing really impresive
2.2 and god knows when 2.3 update will arrive
G2x camera sucks
Speakers are to low
Two Pros: 4G and HDMI tv output
Thankfully i got a defective unit (screen bleeding) so i will be returning my g2x today.
Should i get a replament unit or get myself another Nexus S?

The same thing happened to me...
I returned G2x....back to Nexus S
If you already are disappointed and miss your NS, then why do you actually need our "permission" for this ? Just go for it ! If we would've said get another G2x instead of a new NS, would you have done this ? I, for one, wouldn't have. So yea man... just go for it, especially if you already know how the NS is and feels. Then you CAN'T go wrong.
Wait for sg2 or HTC sensation is what I think I would do just cuz dual core more future proof IMO I do like my nexus but Google isn't what its all cracked up to be IMO
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
The main reason I haven't got the G2X is because of its looks (Fugly little monster xD) but anyways, I did notice the camera was a lot better than the NS. Surprised to see you say it sucks lol. T-Mobile did say that 2.3 is not far away and also Cyanogen has been working on getting CM7 onto it which will definitely be 2.3.3
Anyways, I'm extremely happy with the Nexus S and besides a slightly faster phone with improved camera I don't see much of a reason to get the G2X.
I was going to make the jump to T-Mobile, and I held off a couple weeks to try the G2X. I was wary about service at my new place, because my AT&T didn't get any reception. I wanted to get something with UMA, and G2X seemed like the best phone with 4G and WiFi calling. Now that I've realized that I get perfect reception at my home, I don't need to stick with the G2X. After reception and battery issues with the LG, I'm welcoming the delivery of my Nexus S with open arms. I love the screens on my Focus and my old Captivate, so I'm really looking forward to Super AMOLED again.

I dunno about that. Play with an Atrix for a week and then get back to us
God knows I wont try that again.
I would go back to the sexy nexy Nexus-S is a bad ass device, who cares about dual core right now, I would wait until "Ice cream" update is out, for true dual core support, and then get the newest Android phone out at that time, which will probably be a dual core Nexus-3.0 that will be first phone with "Ice Cream" 3.1.
So get the Nexus-S now and have fun. And upgrade to the Nexus-3.0 next year.
Agreeing with the one saying that you don't need our permission. When I saw the G2X I fell in love, but I knew deep down that I would't love it as much as I love my Nexus S. You see, in the future there will be something similar to the Nexus S, the Galaxy S2. It will have better specs, and offer the same development ( or similar) that the Nexus S provides( unlocked boot loader). Trust me, keep your Nexus S and wait for that xD

What he said. But even with jailbreaking a device, customization is still very limited compared to a Android device with access to root / custom recovery.
@OP
I thought the G2X was extremely sexy, sure it looks a lot like the iPhone 4 but the edges were nice and for a 4inch device it felt amazing in the hand, I also loved how the speakers were not on the back, but the bottom(which makes it a great media experience).
Still, I would go with my NS.
Why didn't you guys did what I did got g2x when it came out and also kept my ns so I can switch between devices whenever I feel like. They're both nice phones I think when 2.3 comes out for g2x will be a lot better phone than it is.

Well the G2X just doesn't have the same look and feel as the Nexus S
you see the Nexus S looks like it was the only device on the planet to run stock Gingerbread, the device is all black, and so when you look at the status bar it blends in with the body of the device. The curved display just makes it look so distinct as well, and plus you can't forget about stock Android. Plus the specs are really not that noticeable. Yes that beast processor is better but the multi tasking experience would have been about the same.
I am currently on a sgs. Is it a good idea to change for a nexus s? Or should i wait for the sgs 2???

Couldn't agree more ! Well said.

Just joined Sprint and got the Epic...

So I just switched from T-Mobile to Sprint and regretfully settled with the Samsung Epic. I'm not sure what it is but the build quality definitely feels cheap to me. I came from a HTC G2 and this is my first Samsung phone and also my first phone with a AMOLED screen. I'm within the 30 day exchange window for Sprint and I'm having trouble deciding between the HTC EVO and the Nexus S. On one hand I really like the Sense UI and I've always liked HTC's build quality/craftsmanship on phones and that 4.3" screen is oh so nice and on the other hand I like the screen quality on the AMOLED screens and wouldn't mind being on Gingerbread asap. Decisions decisions!
Remind me again... what's the point of this thread?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Sorry, I guess I'm just looking for some input from members of the community on both phones to help me make a decision.
Epic vs Evo? This been covered over 1000 times.
Personally I have the epic and am going to switch to the nexus s but only because I work for sprint and get new phones all the time, also I lovemy epic and the keyboard but if you are going to root or rom your phone the touchwiz imbeddedin the epic is a pain in the ass and bogs the phone down, I want the nexus just to root and maybe rom but just to have only stock on the phone and customize it the way I want. If you aren't ging to do those things, stay with the epic or switch to the evo if you want the bigger scree and better camera.

I had an Evo for 30 days before the Epic. Coming from someone who used both phones, stay with the epic. The sexy display and keyboard on epic more than make up for that .3" blurry, washed-out inches of extra screen u get on the evo. Only reason I see for buying an evo at this stage of the game is that fugly kickstand. LOL.

I agree 1000000% the only thing I liked was that kickstand

If you come to love the keyboard, stay with the Epic. Otherwise go for the Nexus S. The Evo just isn't worth buying anymore.
What's the rush in getting updates? The Epic does fine without gingerbread at the moment. If you're willing to consider rooting and installing roms, try installing the Syndicate or Midnight roms from this forum. It makes your phone millions of times better.
I'm going to say Evo Shift 4g is regards to to closes build quality and resemblance to your G2 from T-Mobile.
I wouldn't waste time on a Evo unless you want a bigger screen. The Nexus S is a good choice if you can deal without a keyboard.
I'm confused because you slammed the Epic on its build quality but are considering a Nexus S 4G which is another version of the Galaxy S line. Also I must've fell into a coma or something because I thought the point was to make a phone lite and thin these days not thin and heavy. My daughter has the G2 and I love the keyboard on it and the near stock Android and it goes no further but that's just my opinion. Within my family we have one G2, one My Touch 4G, two EVO Shift's, one Evo 4G & one Epic. My girls are one T-Mobile & everyone else on Sprint. My youngest are on T-Mobile for a reason their young minds are drawn to those T-Mobile commercials that are aimed at a younger customer base. I've had dealing with all of these phones that are so called better than Samsungs and the truth is they're not. I'm not sayings that Samsung is so much better its just that they're nowhere near as bad as people try to make them out to be. Truth is they provide chips and other components for most of these other manufacturers. My advice is do whatever it is you feel you need to do just don't choose a phone by hopping on a bandwagon.

Try out each phone, see which one suites your needs/wants...
I really dont understand why people dont like the build quality on the epic. What exactly is so bad?? Gorilla glass, a solid sliding mechanism, a rubberized back... an awesome keyboard with enough real estate. Sliding door for the micro usb port, dedicated camera button... if your gonna get a different phone go for the nexus s. The evo and evo shift dont compare in speed and and the amoled is to die for. Dont be a little brat lol spoiled bastards.

Getting the evo is a waste right now.. I've always had htc phones up until my epic and I'm more than impressed. At first it feel light and cheap.. but don't let the weight fool you. This phone is very we'll built. I've dropped mine a few time and it barely has any scratches. Plus once you look at the samoled screen vs anything else you will see what the hype is about
Tapatalkin' it from my Epic 3g
Two things I love about the epic I'm not looking forward to in the nexus are no video player even included on the s and the ability to record video in 720p. Use your camcorder and change the settings to 720p before you decide to leave the Epic

You forgot to mention that you can remove the sd card while the phone is on. This beats the EVO and the Nexus for 2 completely different reasons.

I have tried pretty much everything out there and I think the Epic is the way to go if you want a keyboard. If you don't then its new cousin without a screen should be nice.
I am going to wait until the release a galaxy 2 with keyboard. I might even jump ship for that if I had to. I bet that Sprint will have something like that right around when all of our contracts hit a year. For those of you that have to wait 2 years, sorry. I have been with Sprint for 13 years.
Samsung Epic midnight v 4.2 until ACS releases 1.1.1

Phone decision help.. (stay epic or use nexus 4g)

I just bought a nexus off ebay in random thought of upgrading my gf from her utterly annoying and pathetic samsung intercept. Now my problem is that I can't decide if its worth it for me to switch from my beloved epic to a nexus... Is the gpu better in the epic or nexus or same? I can live without the keyboard if theres something there besides ICS. Little help/opinion is appreciated especially from those who've had first hand usage.
Nexus

I was wondering the same thing, since Sprint has the Nexus for free until today. I don't play that many games, so top of the line isn't something I have to have.

Its Pretty much an epic with more roms (ics, official cm7, official miui, sense, blur, ics touchwiz, sonys ics ui, and many more). Same gpu. If you don't use your keyboard much, its probably best to pick nexus.

Thanks, I think I'm set now switching from my epic My gal would rather have a keyboard any way.
Waiiitt, the Nexus S 4G is free?! Do you need to be eligible for an upgrade?
Edit: Never mind, I see you do. Damn!
wouldn't it be better to stick with EPIC for now ( since Sprint should be releasing LTE phones in 2012 ) ?
you probably should stick it out, but if you want to switch its not a whole lot different.
My friend has the nexus s and from my playing with it there are a few negatives that i saw:
1. camera always makes the pictures upside down, every picture i get from them is upside down.
2. no gorilla glass
3. no keyboard obviously (not a major issue but for some on here it is)
but the pluses are obviously android updates in a timely fashion and more support for roms. and its a little sleeker and lighter.
just my thoughts

Also:
No Micro SD slot.
No native 4G toggle.
Camera app is inferior and is limited to 480p on video recording.
No physical camera shutter button.
With the release of Gingerbread, the devs here have really managed to have turned the epic into a best of class phone. It's pretty awesome now.
ICS should be awesome on the Nexus and official support should be great. Just keep in mind the limitations of both phones. It's a close race for me at this point in time.
Stay with the Epic check out the Cyanogenmod forum.
Stay with the Epic and use your upgrade for an LTE 4G phone. Flash the latest cyanogenmod ROM. This is much better than the Nexus Rom the only downside is no 4G.
Stay epic!!!!!!
Whatever gets you laid.
Do remember upgrades are now 2 years not 1 so in 6 mths you will be punching yourself when they release a quadcore lte nexus lmao

I would keep both the Nexus and the Epic. I had the same problem with my gf's phone she had a horrible LG Optimus S so I got her a used HTC Evo 4G and put CM7 on it and she loves it. I know this doesn't help you but I'm just saying this because my gf didn't want to really use her phine to its full potential she just wanted a good phone. Maybe your gf would just want a decent phone?

Phone came today and my gf looked at it was like candy LOL.... with that being said I ended up activating the phone for her. I don't have my upgrade available till sept/oct next year so I'm stuck waiting for a lte phone.
I've seen more than one of these threads, I guess I'll throw in my opinion:
Stick with the Epic. It is still a beast when it comes to power and development for it is still continuing with quite a few people still using it. And it has a physical keyboard
Wait for some LTE phones to come out also. I for one would love to see a good (Android) HTC phone on Sprint again.

Since i'm one of the few who actually read the op and knows that he ALREADY BOUGHT BOTH, i'm not going to answer "save your money" like some of the others here...
Nexus S by far feels more "solid", I owned the epic until the release date of the nexus s and having used both extensively I really think i'm justified in saying that the nexus s is just overall a better user experience.
The keyboard for me was useless because of the dropped keys and I like the thinner profile of the nexus, not to mention both of my epics felt broken because of the sloppy hinge. The overall build if the nexus is just great
The nexus s is better ... But sprint should be getting the galaxy nexus soon... Why would you buy the nexus s thats so old?

Lol you get a pat on the back. The Nexus does feel solid and easier to hold vs my Epic, also 2.3.7 is super smooth stock.
Responding to post above:
I bought the phone as a gift for my gal to get her off a crappy intercept. I wanted a pure google phone and didn't care for anything else besides the Epic touch (which was priced far out of my range).
