Hi, everyone! I don't know if it's the right forum to ask... I found it using Google...
I want to buy an MDA Pro, which is also known as HTC Universal, from what I've read. I live in Poland, but I think about buying one from Germany, because it seems to be cheaper there. But I have a few problems...
First of all, the MDAs which I can buy in Germany have a T-Mobile simlock, so they probably won't work here unless I unlock it. So, is there a way to unlock it?
Second, it will be in German, and I don't really know German. Is it possible to download and install an English ROM?

Point one, so far it is not possible to unlock the universal for free. You have to "buy" the unlock code from T-Mobile as the unlock hasn't been made yet.
Second point, yes you can flash the device to change it from german to english. This is possible and not that difficult.

I've noticed on eBay that some people from Germany are selling unlocked ones... maybe I'll get one of them

But one person in my family lives in the usa, and she will buy a g1 for me...
BUT it have to be without abonnement, and bindings if you understand.. Unlocked and all that, so i just can put my danish sim into it, and then it should work..

Two suggestions: 1) have them buy a retail phone from TMobile for full price. They will unlock it immediately.
2) Buy a developers version of the phone. It is unlocked from the factory.

I've heard bad things of expansys.. And they don't have a good score here either: http://www.trustpilot.dk/review/www.expansys.dk. Some have waited MONTHS for there products, and then they don't work.. And beside.. It's cheaper in usa
I am from denmark, and I just went to ebay.de This is were I brought mine total price was dkr 2830,- Unlocked and inclusive transport with GLS.

Its available in germany from last week only. I bought it here for 729 euro after 40 euro discount.you can try in media market or saturn, but no idea about stocks. You can also get it from amazon.de for around 700 euros online

Not from what I've seen. The Tabs being sold at Media Mart and Saturn can't
change their languages. At least not via the simple settings/menu. Trust me I've
tried on many devices at different stores. Its whats holding me back from buying
one.
Just bought it yesterday in a vodafone store. Unbranded.
There's an apparently called more locales or sommit. But it does seem strange that you can't change language without it.
If anyone who has a vodafone desire HD in the UK, can they confirm is the phone is supplied unlocked or locked ? Could they also tell us where it was purchased from. Many thanks!

I don't want to hijack your post but ditto on the T-Mobile phones, any information on if their phones are locked or unlocked.
If you buy from carrier retail shop they are normally locked, but if you buy from a third party they come unlocked most of the time. Just ask who ever your buying from.

I can't speak for Vodafone or T-Mobile but Three sells the DHD unbranded and unlocked.
Back to the original question, anyone with a vodafone dhd in the uk who can confirm the lock status? thanks!

Got my DHD from T-Mobile as a contract upgrade, it was sim-locked but not branded in any way. I sucessfully unlocked the phone as you can see here.

from the vodafone shop in norwich, tried with tmo, and orange sims - its also unbranded!
Got mine direct from Vodafone online it is unbranded which is good but is also simlocked

My friend got his from Vodafone unlocked. The guy at Vodafone said that due to the short supply they were just getting them unlocked from the manufacturer and sending them straight out to customers. This was about 2-3 weeks ago so the situation could have changed.
I received my replacement from Vodafone last Friday, its completely unbounded and unlocked

I got my DHD directly from Vodafone - it is unbranded and unlocked - per my own experience with Vodafone - over the last 2 years or so I got the following phones from Vodafone:
- Touch pro2 - branded but Unlocked
- Windows 7 Trophy - unbranded and unlocked
- Desire HD (DHD) - unbranded and unlocked
so far all phones have been received direct from Vodafone and all have been unlocked - so I think I can make this healthy assumption that HTC phones are pretty much unlocked from Vodafone.

Luving this site which I've just stumbled on and answered my question straight away, so here's some info that I've been told from two different T-Mobile UK staff.
Phone is SIM locked but the firmware hasn't been touched (this site has confirmed this too)
The phone will have some kind of T-Mobile logo branding but that's it. I can't wait for my new DHD to turn up now, no stock with T-Mobile and may not be for 3 weeks or more ...... nevermind hay I'll just have to wait.

I got EGY. It came with SHAHID bloated app that cannot be uninstalled. Samsung Pay doesn't work.

Yes I did. Bought it at launch. For the same price as in the US, I got a fast wireless charger, OEM case, Bluetooth speaker, and cash voucher thrown in. Quite a good deal I must say.
I split my time between the US, Europe, and Bangkok. I don't get my phones in the US anymore (from AT&T) because they are locked, have less LTE bands and, most importantly, don't offer dual SIM versions!

That's nice. Did you buy from Samsung shop or other retail? I want to get Thai CSC. Does the firmware include any localization for Thai?

Samsung Shop. Bought online, collect at a local Samsung Shope (@ Siam Paragon).
I believe the CSC does include localization, I just don't use it. I prefer everything to be in English.

That means it was imported from United Arab Emirates. I also think it means you don't have any warranty service in Romania from Samsung.

Well that kind of sucks... I have 2 years of warranty from the seller so no huge issue but still. At least I hope that the quality control for UEA is better then Eastern Europe. The phone looks to be good with no bloatware installed and I am planning to root and install custom ROMs so bye bye warranty anyway...

It was easy to answer, as I have XSG myself. I ordered mine from Dubai, as FD is not available here in Finland.
