Lost USB Settings option and USB functionality - Galaxy S I9000 General

I was attempting to flash my phone with a custom ROM and only got as far as booting in recovery mode. when I selected 'Apply SDCARD:update.zip' for ClockworkMod I got a message saying that file verification had failed, so I rebooted the device.
Now though, I cannot access the device over USB and the USB settings option (Settings -> About Phone -> USB Settings) is no longer present in the device!
I've rebooted the phone but it makes no difference. I get the audible alert when I connect the cable, but nothing on the device or my computer.
Has anyone seen this before and knows how to resolve it?
Thanks

[Q] "System UI has stopped" when try to connect in Mass Storage Mode (Stock LPY)
I have my GNote with stock ICS LPY ROM and CF-Root for LPY and 15 Toogles running.
I have no issues copying files back and forth connecting my device in MTU mode. But when I try to connect my device in Mass storage mode I have some strange behavior:
Enable USB Mass storage in Settings> Wireless and Network > USB Utilities
Plug the device on
I see a blank screen with "Set time" lengend in header
The phone becomes irresponsive for a while, then shows the message "Unfortunately, system ui has stopped"
My PC never detects the connected device.
I cannot see notification bar anymore. I need to restart
Tried to enable/disable USB debuggin mode. However, when enabled, the phone says "Turn USB debugging off to set USB connection. Tap OK to continue". Then, automatically disables USB debugging mode.
I also tried connecting in different ports, installed-uninstalled drivers, and also different PC's. Nothing worked.
Do you have any piece of advice to offer, for solving this issue?
Thanks a lot
Had a similar issue ....
Had to reinstall the ICS ROM via PC Odin ...
All the best .....
I'm kind of paranoid right now because the super brick bug. I guess if reinstalling is the only workaround, i will wait another couple of weeks
Anyone else is having the same issue?

Just for the record, it seems it was related to LPY. Now I am on LRG and I could connect without problems.

[Q] USB Debugging not being detected

Hey, I'm trying to root my AT&T GS4 and obviously need usb debugging to do it, but whenever I connect the chord to my computer it says it's still "Connected as a media device" in the notification bar.
Yes I have:
1) Enabled developer mode
2) Downloaded and installed the usb driver from Samsung (however I'm not sure it went correctly, will explain farther down) also have successfully connected phone with Kies and backed it up.
3) Tap the checkbox to enable usb debugging
The same process I took when rooting my Nexus 7. Only this time usb debugging isn't actually turned on or isn't being detected.
The reason I said I think something went wrong with the install of the drivers is because after I ran the .exe I got off of Samsung's support site it did that icon for driver installation, I opened it and after a while it showed this (replace DOT with . because of XDA's anti-spam thing): i.imgurDOTcom/M6pewok.png
As it shows there were multiple drivers that were installed, but one unidentified device that failed.
I'm really wanting to root my phone but need usb debugging, can anyone help?

If it says "Connected as a media device" that is NORMAL and the way it should be.
If you have check marked "USB Debugging" in your phone settings and the checkbox remains "checked"
then there is nothing wrong with your phone. If the USB debugging does not stay "check marked" after
you "check mark" it then there is something wrong with your phone.
Most likely there is NOTHING wrong with the phone itself and the rooting issue you are having has
nothing to do with usb debugging.
If that's the case then your problem most likely is the usb drivers in your computer or the usb cable
itself and possibly you need to plug the cable into a different usb port on your computer.
First thing I would do if this is the case is to un-install all samsung drivers and applications
from your computer including kies if it's installed. Then reboot the computer and only install
the Samsung USB Drivers and nothing else.
After the samsung usb drivers are installed reboot your computer.
Then you should be able to root the phone with no problem.
The very best and easiest way to root your phone is to download either the cwm or twrp
recovery Odin flash TAR file and download ODIN if you don't already have it.
After doing that download one of the cwm/twrp flashable custom rom zips file and copy it to
your internal sdcard.
Then use Odin to flash the TAR recovery file in the PDA slot of Odin.
After that's done reboot into recovery and select "install" or "install zip" and navigate to your
internal sdcard and find the cwm/twrp flashable custom rom which you copied to the sdcard
and flash it.
After it's flashed you will be rooted, all the cwm/twrp flashable custom roms are pre-rooted
so you will not need to worry about having to root.
Good luck!

USB doesn't work after OTA

Hey all,
I have tried to google and figure this out but my phone doesn't show up in device manager in windows or in android file transfer on mac EXCEPT when in download mode or when the phone is off/charging via my computers USB port.
So when in download mode, the phone shows up in device manager....
When my device is off and charging via USB port, it shows up in device manager...
I have tried USB debugging mode no change...
Charges just fine. No usb port issues because it connects during download mode etc...
During these times, i obviously can't access the SDcard.... but as soon as the device boots, it disconnects and disappears from device manager even though its still charging etc...
This only happened after the last OTA update.
I assume i will have to restore to defaults as its probably an issue with the kernel and usb protocol but I dont have the phone rooted and i don't want to root it at this time... I am hoping there might be a quick fix and/or setting i am missing.
Thanks!

You do have to have USB debugging mode checked. If you don't have the developer option enabled in settings, go to about phone, find your build number and tap on it rapidly until it says your developer option is enabled. Back out and you should see a developer tab. Click it and make sure USB debugging is checked. If that doesn't work you might reinstall the latest USB drivers.
i did both of those. the odd part is when in download mode windows chimes that my device it attached.. no problems right? but anytime the android OS is running no chimes at all no recognition at all on any computer... its almost like back in my linux days when the kernal had a usb module failed to load... i swear its as if the kernal turned off usb data communication... power is fine... just wont communicate unless in download mode or in a power off state.... totally weird...
When you plug it into the computer, pull down your notification drawer, make sure USB setting is set to MTP. It usually is set to installer, or charge only by default.
Also I'd say completely wipe out your phone drivers on the computer, and reinstall all new ones.
Possibly reinstall ADB as well.

CM 12.1 on Note 3: Usb is now disconnected

Hi to everyone, I'm having bad time finding a solution to my problem, but for now nothing helped me.
I've CM 12.1 installed on my Note 3. Since I installed it to my phone, I've never be able to connect my phone to the computer.
When I click on settings-->storage-->usb computer connection, it says:
"USB is now disconnected".
This doesn't allow me to set the usb connection, and so my pc doesn't recognize my phone.
On my pc, it says: "Unknown device, code 43" (looks like it doesn't have drivers).
I've tried everything:
1) different cable, pc, usb connected directly to main board;
2) reboot phone;
3) all the steps about enabling and disabling developer option:
**********************************************************************************************
To see the USB computer connection options:
1. Developer>Disable USB debugging.
2. Reboot.
3. Connect to PC.
4. Settings>Storage, press the overflow button (three dots).
If that does not do it, then:
1. Disable developer options.
2. Reboot.
3. Connect to PC.
4. Settings>Storage, press the overflow button (three dots).
5. Re enable developer options. (About Phone>Build Number-6x)
**********************************************************************************************
But, apparently, nothing changed.
I want to solve this situation becasue I need to install stock firmware now.
Another problem is that I've tryed to install twrp recovery (using flashify), but this made my phone go in recovery bootloop, and so now, It seems I can't access no custom recovery.
If there is no solution to the problem above, at least help me to install the right twrp recovery (if compatible with cyanogen mod 12.1), so I can try a stock firmware flashing using it.
Thanks for answering, hope someone can help me.
Note: I've installed 12.1-20151120-NIGHTLY-hlte version, and, if I search update it says that there are some updates, but I cannot upgrade my system.
Have you installed the drivers on the PC ??
Usb cable is damaged or lack of driver on PC.

problem with USB MTP mode

Hi,
Redmi 3s, MIUI 8 Global 6.11.3
bootloader unlocked, rooted, TWRP recovery
developer options - USB configuration - MTP selected
now, every time I connect my phone to (any) PC by USB, a notification pops up "USB charging only" for a few seconds. If I catch it, tap it, and select MTP, everything works as planned.
when I toggle the USB configuration in developer options between charging only and MTP, the next time I USB connect the phone, it will connect in MTP mode. But only once. Unplug the USB, replug, and I am back at the "USB charging only" popup. MTP is still selected in developer options.
Obviously, I must be missing some related setting to make, or this issue would affect a lot more users.... Does anybody have an idea how to make MTP the permanent default when connecting USB?
thanks
tdklaus
I'm facing the same issue!
May be, any Xposed Mod fix it, anybody know?

The issue persists after switching to xiaomi.eu 8.0.10 stable. Now the "USB charging only" at least stays in the list of notifications and can be tapped there even if I miss it in the first few seconds. Still annoying, though....
