Pricing between stores

So the epic 4g has finally been announced - august 31 for $250. Is there any chance that other retailers like best buy or radio shack will sell the phone for more like 200? It seems as though most phones are priced at 200 already. Will the epic see a drop in price anywhere?

I don't think any stores can sell it for a different price. The best you can expect is instant rebates instead of mail in at places like Best Buy and maybe a gift card like a lot of places did for the Evo and Droid X

Physical stores don't tend to sell for less. However websites do. On Amazon the captivate and vibrant were both $150 on release day, and on the 2nd day they had both hit $99.99. I could see the epid 4g going as $200 then $150 or maybe $150 then $100, it's hard to say for sure though.

It would be nice. The mail in rebates don't help offset the cost very well. You have to have the phone for 30 dats before you can submit it and then up to 12 weeks to receive it. In the mean time you have to pay $350 up front.

Radioshack just called me 2day concerning the epic. Preorders start Friday 8/13/2010 with $50 down, u get a gift card and pay the rest on the 31st. Overall price is $249. This is at the waterfront store here in Pittsburgh, pa. Thought y'all would want to know.

About amazon:
how hard is it to get one ot the phones off of amazon? Do they sell out quick?
Also, do you have to go through the rebate process to get money back? This sure sounds like a great deal vs buying through sprint. My only issue is availability.

Can't comment on availability much. I have only been watching the Galaxy S phones on there, but the Captivate and Vibrant both had 0 issues with stock, I never once saw them sell out on amazon. The evo I have even seen on amazon once or twice, and I've never seen it anywhere else in stock online. The droid X is shipping in 1-2 weeks though. Popular phones get backstocked. The EPIC 4g is it hard to say whether it will be backordered or not for sure. There isn't really even a guarantee that Amazon will get it on the first day or at all.
The EVO 4G btw isn't discounted at all despite being out for so long, but other phones from sprint are, I think stock availability is likely to play a major role in pricing.

newegg sells the current US galaxy phones for $50 and $100
I reserved an epic at BestBuy but I'm checking Amazon and Newegg on release day.

I called a location near me and asked if they were taking reservations and they said they just started. They took my name and number and said theyd call me when they came in.

Just was wondering what everyone paid for their plays. I paid 549.00 right from a rogers store here bit seen them as high as 900.00 on ebay.

Nothing, was an upgrade on my contract

Contract upgrade, so 160 euro's only. Prices for new play's are around 500 euro over here

if you pay attention to ebay now there are alot online now. the google io was 2 days ago i think and most developers are just selling to get rid of. i got a brand new one for $475 shipped.

I bought my white R800a unlocked/unbranded on Monday off a dude from Craigslist in SF that got it at a Qualcomm Android developer summit, for $600 cash.
I also noticed a bunch are on eBay for sale from the Google I/O event. Kind of sad in a way as the devs should be using them to develop better games for us!
I guess their loss is your gain

i have the 800a as well, waiting for it to come. so the 800a is the unlocked unbranded model. i can use with tmobile without buying a unlock code?

Got it for free on a 2 year contract will have cost at the end of contract around £840 minus insurance (well i do get thousands of minutes and texts and unlimited net, so i suppose all i good)

someone upgraded to the play but they just wanted the money so they sold it,
It was brand new still had the protector films on the front and back. Boxed with all accessories still in there sealed plastic bags for £300 free postage

Yeah but you had to pay for the phone. And i got mine as soon as it was released was not interested in paying £450-500 when it first came out. Then all my mins/data ontop e.t.c Worked out about the same, alittle less maybe to buy the phone and use a pay as you go sim over 2 years. I like the phone so it doesn't matter all is good

In my case my Play will cost me a grand total of £4.99 (for delivery) as its a free upgrade as a good will gesture as I have my company account (over 200 handsets) with them too and they always give me free stuff to keep me with them lol, I can also upgrade again in 30 days and keep the Play for nothing, same as I did with the iphone 4 and galaxy s.

Ask someone competent in the Walmart Connection Center and ask if they have them in stock. They got the update on their computers last week on the deal and how it works. Stores received them between August 8th through the 13th - some earlier.

Adding this to clear up questions
There seems to be a lot of incorrect assumptions on here as well as a lot of misinformation being given. Let me clarify everything. Also, it would be worth reading the info listed in the source.
This deal works ONLY at Walmart stores back in the Connection Center. Stores should have received them and should have the info tags posted next to their Walmart Family Mobile display. There are no additional discounts or rebates available on this. The Galaxy S II is $570 outright, so you are effectively getting this phone for $270 off already.
There are two separate ways to attain the Galaxy S II for $299:
¤ Activate a Walmart Family Mobile account. This will require a $25 activation kit, which includes your WFM SIM card. For more info on that, view the source. Existing customers of WFM should be able to get this deal after confirming their account.
¤ Buy the Prepaid variant - aka, the T-Mobile Monthly 4G Pink Box. This includes the Prepaid SIM card in the box, which they will activate for you. You must get a monthly plan valued at $30 and up.
Not all stores have these phones yet, but that has to do with their ordering system and their competence."

Not bad at all, at that price its kinda just better to get the Gnex though. To each his own though.

Agree with you there.. Galaxy Nexus is a way better phone (IMO) for only $50 more.. and its unlocked so you are not limited to WFM or T-mobile. You could use StraightTalk if you wanted.. which is what I use..
This offer on the S2 is still a good opportunity, special since its the only Decent phone available for Prepaid customers (WFM is prepaid too)
(hunting a deal on the Galaxy Nexus, need one for the girlfriend )

Also of note is in Canada the same version of the SII (just minus t-mobile branding) is available for $300 with a $100 gift card from Koodo or $150 on their tab

I went ahead and grabbed one of these for a couple of reasons. I really wanted a risk free way of trying out Tmo $30.00 plan and the Galaxy Nexus is $80.00 more for me in Cali after shipping and tax.
Since these are going for more on the local CL I can try out the service and then break even when I sell it.
It's going to be interesting carrying my Gnex and the S2 around at the same time. Both are pretty good sized phones!

Sam's Club has the S3 for $0.96
Best Buy $49.99 for Sprint version, $99.99 for AT&T
Radio Shack, I believe, was $99.99
Walmart $129 but you get a $100 Walmart gift card (the Walmart deal runs Nov. 23 through Dec. 1 so probably the place I will go for my son as he has an upgrade in December as I don't want to wait in the Best Buy line and I don't have a Sam's club membership and we spend enough money at Walmart anyway that the $100 GC will be used so that the net cost is only $29 and I don't have to fight the crowds on BF).

If you have it now, means they'll give it back to you after an upgrade. I did exactly that when upgraded in spring (when 15$ plan was already "gone"). it automatically bumped my data plan to a more expensive one, I called them and they gave me back my 15$ one...

Isn't the AT&T one only free because Amazon only supports upgrades through the next program? Unless something changed from when the thread started it says 2 year upgrade not available, and has a monthly Next fee just like AT&T does.

Just wanted to stop by and thank the OP for this post cause you saved me $200......well $199.99!
Due to me being on SERO-P I haven't been able to jump on these types of deals since I switched to SERO-P on the Evo 4G. I found out from someone on Slickdeals that Discover's price protection worked on cell phones so I figured I'd try it this time. When I preordered the G4 I made sure I used Discover. I waited until my 14 day return period passed before submitting my claim with Discover. It took a little over a week after resubmitting my claim and it is now approved.
So now I get the best of both worlds...SERO-P and super cheap phones!

I only see this phone on Amazon for $99. I'm assuming this deal is over?

And the $99 is only since Sunday, before that it was $199. (free is long since over)

How was the amazon 99 cent/ free deal good on AT&T?
Cause you'd end up paying $600 for it in the end anyway. Cause if your under contract your bill is $25 higher.
