it is going to happen the nexus one can run it. Our phone is much more powerful that the the nexus S is very similar. They pulled back froyo. All signs point to us getting it but it will most likely take 2 months for binaries to be released and a build to be compiled. And I don't want to hear the nah sayers going on and on that you can't trust samsung blah blah blah... Even noob said we are getting it and I know he is on this inside track.

This isnt 3.0 it is a build upgrade from 2.1 a totally new build takes about 6months and upgrade is about 2 months.

We will probably get it around the time that 3.0 comes out or 3.1 usually how it works. 2.3 comes out now..sprint releases 2.2 to epics... at least we get updates faster than most US carriers do. Look at evo. Sprint plz OTA 2.2 already.

Droid already has 2.2.1 - boss man got it last thursday OTA i think. He isn't rooted.
Droid X went live on the 10th as well.

All in all google is going to greater lengths to help push out the updates faster. Its one of the biggest gripes with android. Look to the gingerbread update to change things. After gingerbread android os will be much more uniform.

I expect things to change greatly once 3.0 comes out..this is when release cycles for android will slow down thus giving manufacturers more leeway..

Agreed. I think they are planning on phazing out UI overlays as well when 3.0 comes out. No more motoblur, sense, tw, etc. For the tech geek we like it because we port things over from other platforms. But the Ios boobs they just want something shiny and homoginized, and that's probably the demographing android wants to really take on

Utter misinformation.
As of today, Samsung's U.S. Galaxy S support site on Twitter still denies that there has been any such announcement.
@JoeBatson no official statement about updating US Galaxy S line to 2.3 has been made & we aren't prepared to discuss this at this time.

Seeing as we were told that froyo was coming in september, then november and we still haven't gotten an official update I doubt it. Plus samsung has told people that they will not discuss their plans about 2.3 for us galaxy s phones
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Well I wasn't particularly concerned with a Samsung released version of 3.0, as there is a "release" of 2.2 out for the Epic.
I would upgrade to 2.2 cause gingerbread source codes haven't been released yet...so it will take time for the Dev to port 2.3 over, cause their waiting for the source codes for 2.2 and 2.3....hope this helps
Just for the record gingerbread is 2.3 not 3.0....

The second sentence is correct.
This first one is not, unless you are just recalling rumor and speculation. Neither Samsung nor Sprint ever said Froyo would be delivered to Epics before the end of the year. Of course, the end of the year is now 17 days away.

Maybe, just maybe the korean CEO has a heart and says Galaxy S line (specifically Vibrant) gets GB
but dreams will be dreams.

*the gingerbread thread*

Well, now that most of us have FroYo, I thought that we might be lacking something to WILDLY speculate about... sooooo GINGERBREAD ANYONE!?
Some of our friends in Europe already have gingerbread on their Galaxy S's, so the question is, when do we get ours?
Now I know that it took us over six months to get FroYo, but that was due to some sort of disagreement with Verizon and Samsung (most likely over Bing). However, since we now have 2.2, I would *assume* that they have gotten past that and that any future updates we get will most likely come in a more timely fashion.
If things go accordingly, and Samsung and Verizon play nice, then I would assume that we would be getting gingerbread around September or October (based on how long it took FroYo to be distributed to other carriers).
What do you guys think?
P.S. I'll post any major updates that appear in the media.

Unfortunately, the truth is: we don't know when the heck Gingerbread is coming for the Fascinate. And with Samsung's somewhat random updates, its really hard to guess even a general date.
If we can get CM7 and maybe officially supported by CM. who cares about stock GB. If JT and PK's work becomes bug free, and it looks like they have done great job, I think we might see gold.

Completely untrue. The droid name means nothing. Carrier and manufacturer are the same. Hardware is the exact same as a the fascinate other than the fact that it has a 4g radio. How much do you want to bet the Droid Charge will see Gingerbread and more minor updates than the Fascinate just because it's in the Droid lineup? Both phones are nearly identical when it comes to software. Nearly every phone in the Droid lineup has had great support(except for the Eris and maybe the Pro).
I honestly don't think the fascinate will ever see gingerbread in any sort of official way.

Where's teh Gingerbread?

Its now october and we've yet to see any official gingerbread and sources, I've lost all respect to samsung and there dev team. They've had 2 chances for an ontime release and failed both. Not a good enough reason. If you notice the dfferent versions of GB they've went through you'll understand that for every GB version 2.3, 2.3.2, 2.3.3, and 2.3.4; Samsung took a month to two months of testing and improving. GB been in the works since april/may starting with 2.3 and now we're at 2.3.4. And from the looks of it they're in the last month of testing and improving GB
