Hi,
Anyone got the FM radio working in Froyo?
I read this and got in working in 2.1, but it seems it does not work after upgrading:

I am interested if someone could making on it !
I'm interested in this too.
With the rom Dj Steve 1.7.0 it has radio FM
I have "TuneIn Radio" which was included in Rogers official 2.2 Upgrade. It is working and I have used it. However, this is an Internet radio app which uses the data plan. Is this what you mean ? Unless you mean a FM tuner app ?
Some versions of streakdroid included an FM radio (the streak can do fm, it just has no default app like hence the thread)
Have you tried the one in streakdroid or are you on stock firmware? (to everyone in thread)
This is the one included with streakdroid 1.8.1, I havnt tried it myself so I'm not 100% sure
STREAK LIGHT worked for me from the beginning of 2.2 Official ROM upgrade...

Works a treat for me. The streak must be rooted and this app must have su access.

What rom are you on? I can't make it work on 345.
FM radio works on any rom.
You have fm_hcitool library, root and APK,
library copy to system/bin.

How did you get the App on your DynaTac? I keep getting an "Out of Memory" error.
Working now, get fm_hcitool from http://android.modaco.com/content-page/318792/how-to-tune-a-fm-radio-station/page/140/ and place in /system/bin with root explorer.
I try to install Streak radio , it's work but not stable. Some time the sound volume to loud and cannot decrease although I put the volume button till silent.
Maybe some can bring advice or something to fix it ?
I think it works on 351 rooted

2.FM-Hcitool file (will be on the card) Please copy and find the root explorer program - This is VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE - re-root explorer program, the System / paste it into the bin file. Of course, the ability to write active explorer must root before pasting. So if you look carefully on the root explorer program in parentheses (R / W), the text itself. If you click on this post writing (R / O) will be. Fm-hcitool pasting this option you R / O into a Turn. I hope you can tell by what I mean. Hi I'm using a unlocked Dell Streak Version 00 from Dell direkt and if I wanne start streetview it says that there is no app to open it.
Anyone same?
Solutions?
I'm in Germany and on O2
the app to open it is google maps. keep in mind not all places actually have street view.
okay I know that its usualy opened with google maps but if I search for london and then tap on the "little-man icon" a popup appears with the message: no application available to open google.streetview
I tried to install street.apk but it says that it cant be installed on this device
No one the same?

ok, got it working!
Just download some custom ROM, I took the newest CyanogenMod for example, open the zip-archive and extract the file "street.apk".
All you have to do now, is to install this file, I did it with the adb shell. Easiest way if you have the Android SDK on your PC.
Okay I think l'll be waiting to flash another ROM cause on my Streak the Earphone-plastic-pice is starting to get off.Got it in hands after pulling it out of my pants and now it is a garanty case...
but maybe later I'll be flashing it... or wait for 2.1/2.2 ... (I'm really out of fun while flashing, caus my sond HD2 was flashed by me nearly every second day...)
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
You don't need to flash a whole rom, you just need to get hands on the street.apk since it's not available on the google market.
I just downloaded the cyanogen rom and extractet the street.apk from the zip file and installed it - and there it is
Here's a very easy way to gain root access to your Nand HD builds. Some have mentioned something called z4root from the market but every time i put that in search it couldn't find it. What i DID find was an app called Super Manager that works like a charm and has many functions such as task manager, apk manager, file explorer, and app back up. What you want to do first is go to settings(where you can access just about anything..shake capture, full screen mode, font size..etc.)then go to 'enable root function'. After that, you'll be able to go into root explorer..and enjoy.
If you can't find them on the market, you can always find them HERE

Basically it gives you additional unix/linux commands so you can deploy different tasks at the root level. Similarly, it's like having a registry editor in windows for you to slice and dice around.
i cant remove apps from system
but titanium backup have root right
is this will help ?

I'm gonna give it a shot and report my findings then. Thanks.
Edit: I've gotta say this is definitely worth a go. Don't know if everything works as described, (such as app backup) but I'm definitely looking at my system files. I tried copying the miui music app into /system/app directory but it said not enough free space. Strange, but I will play with it some more tomorrow. Thanks for the find!

Settings and about phone. I am just wondering because Rumm is 2.3.320 and I think Fission is 2.3.340. If you want try this before you try Rumm. Backup current ROM and then run the Metro Flash from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289. Also make sure your APN settings are correct.
Thanks a lot I found that I can have everything working with the stock Rom. Using root explorer to push the u2nl and upstart.sh. it will only send mms using 3 mags pixel.

Help with mms!!!
Ok, I've followed everything step by step in order to make my stock GB DX work on Metro instead of VZW. All went perfectly until the last part. Flashing MetrOFF 1.2 (GB). I have put the file on my sd card and tried running it in recovery mode per instructions, and it seems to start, but then fails out saying that it's not signed and aborts. Does anyone know how to make it work? I like the stock ROM and took out most of the bloatware that I didn't want. The rest is perfect imo, except the MMS part. I don't have service yet because I want the phone working %100 before paying another company money for service. Pease help!!?

Try using the old version of CWM recovery.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
ok.. CWM Recovery. Sorry, I'm tired and I don't quite follow. I know I didn't say which instructions I followed, but I never had to dl another recovery prog to get this far. I did get the instructions from this forum and followed them to a tee. After all of that, I ran across another thread that showed me how to mod settings through ##7764726 with the code 000000 (Well, it led me there and I figured out alot just by looking around.), and then another prog allowed me to set the APN. Anyway, I wonder if between that and other forum instructions, did I bypass having to use the MetrOFF mod? I'd still like to because all of the other instructions there were right on the money and don't want to find that I missed something going through a back door. TY for the info...
Also (a bit off topic), I need a prog that will allow me to actively switch between apps (ie. Web, game, IM service, sms/mms, e-mail, etc) w/o having to back out completely or restart the app or navigate from the home screen to that app every time. Kinda like Task Manager in Windows Mobile 6.5??? I'm sure I'll have to designate a shortcut to that app on the home screen (wish I could make a button do it, like the back button ), but it would make "fast switching" a hell of alot faster and easier. TY big time for any help here!!!
Going further down the rabbit hole... Why isn't it told that in order to install CWM you need to get something from Java in order to undersrtand the SDK file of Android and then from there (God willing) understand wtf you're doing to install CWM on the DroidX? It seems pretty clear that this is the process to get an app from the AndroidMarket to work on this phone. Yes, for me it's worth the effort, but for a noob with no patients that just wants the better to be best, I think it should be an added must in all instructionals! Even my tech savvy self (still learning all things android) is perplexed and almost confused at all of this. I hope I help someone out there with all the same frustrations...
OK. I have since went round and round like most of us do to get things working correctly. I have had success in getting Bootstrap on my phone via .apk on my sd card (not the way I expected to after much hw and following guides), but even now that I have successfully installed CWM, I still can't run the MetrOFF zip file. I get an error stating that:
"Amend scripting was depreciated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was Necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery. Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages."
I then found the Metroff 1.3 [Edify] version that was also meant to remove a roaming indicator, and it was also aborted because of a yet unknown (to me) error. Again, I ask, Please HELP?
No older CWM...
@ Bigshotrob22
Ok, I finally figured out why you said to use an older version of CWM. Problem that I have now, is that I can't find on older version that works. I found 3.0.something and tried it, but it only booted to a black screen everytime I tried to use it at all, so I went back to 5.0.whatever for now. Can Anyone please post a link to an older version that will work on DroidX?

Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Hi, my name is Steven
I run C-Rom's JB on my SGS I9000 and loving it.
There's just 1 little problem with all the JB roms i've flashed
There is no way to get a fm radio working (not a radio via stream but via my fm thing in the phone + earphones)
I've been looking every where for a stock jb radio apk or something like that.
I tried the SpiritFM radio, but it didn't work (no sound or anything)
THEN, i found something on a forum.
It said that you have to go to kernel app, in this case semaphore.apk
scroll down and check the box of "Radio FM - load radio FM (si 4709)
After having done that, the spiritfm radio still didn't work.
Ok so far, no progress.
I went trying stuff to get it working and i got it.
Here's what you do
- Open SpiritFM radio
- Push the option button on your phone (you'll get a pop-up menu)
- Go to "Setting"
- Go to Band, and select your country (or continent or w/e)
- Go back to "Setting"
- Go to "Debug
- Go to "FM Chip"
- Select your chip (instead of automatic)
------- If you don't know your chip, just try EVERYTHING (restart app after changing Chip)
------- Mine was "Sam SiLabs (Gal S+)"
And SJABANG!! you have radio.
(At least... I did)
Now.. i do not know if the semaphore setting change has anything to do with the radio working, but it won't kill you to try
I hope this will help people with the same problem.
I have included "semaphore.apk" and "SpiritFM radio unlocked"
I wanted to add a link but i'll just add the file instead (xda wont let me do a link yet)
Please post if you have anything to say.

It really works! It's great!
The only thing I've changed in settings is the "Band" according to area where I use it. Also it needs to have superuser permission granted.

Yeah, I'm running into the same problem.
What Rom are you running, and does it only happen under certain conditions?
I'm running
LiquidSmooth Rom (4.2.2 - It seems super stable, only 2 total problems with it)
CodeFireX .62 or .64, I don't remember
NOS Tweak Package v0.4.5_r1 (was having same problems before this; it actually improved my battery life somehow )
HTC MyTouch 4g/Glacier (Obviously, since I'm posting here, but I figured I'd say so just in case)
Anyways, the problem I'm running into is that I can't get the backlight to stay off after locking the phone.
I lock it, then after ~7seconds the backlight comes back on.
Also, this has happened on each 4.2.x rom I've tried
I read somewhere that messing with the settings/app killers can help, but no change from that. I've also tried setting my backlight to all the way off, as well as full, and the brightness doesn't change while the screen is off.
I can try to make a LogCat of it later, though.

Ehh, I am too really - everyone's gotta start somewhere though!
Anyways, what it means is that you can't just take the nos_whatever.zip file and flash it from the recovery, you have to actually open the app called Terminal Emulator (can be found on the market, needs root) and install it from there.
The instructions on how are all in the readme inside the .zip file, just follow those and you'll be fine.

I was having the same 2 issues beforehand (Backlight coming on while the phone is locked, and cell signal dropping after I miss a call until I turn airplane mode on->off)
Also, I noticed that at least in my case my phone seems much less likely to turn the backlight back on if I'm not doing anything in the background such as listening to music. I'm pretty sure that's only been working today though, not sure why...

Also, I noticed that at least in my case my phone seems much less likely to turn the backlight back on if I'm not doing anything in the background such as listening to music. I'm pretty sure that's only been working today though, not sure why...

Ok, I may do just that. Will backing up and restoring what I have with TitaniumBackup break anything, so I don't have to reinstall everything?
Also, what're the advantages of 4ext recovery over clockwork?
Thanks!

No shouldn't break anything
And install 4ext before you reinstall just download 4ext recovery controlled.apk and flash it with that app very easy and the u.I is better

Hmm, it looks interesting - and having a touch recovery would help remove a major pain in the rear - but I'm completely broke and I can't seem to find the list of differences between the paid controller version and the free updater; would you still recommend the free version?
Yeah I'm using the free version.....PS put the name.apk into Google and u get any app

I'll be getting a little bit of money soon, so I'll just buy it when that comes in.
Anyways, I just did a full system wipe (each of CWM's wipes, as well as the DarkUnicorn wipe script ((since it was on my SdCard already)) but I'm still having the backlight issue.
Haven't even installed a single app yet; still trying to connect to the store to get TitaniumBackup.
Any other ideas?
PS) Still planning on making a LogCat, not sure if it'll help though
--- EDIT ---
What Kernal are you using, the default?
Yeah default

NOS won't boot up or your phone won't?

Also, back on the topic of this thread, are there any fixes for 4.2 roms turning the backlight back on after being locked?
It's a huge battery drain, and my biggest problem at the moment; any ideas would be most appreciated
lol actually I found out the problem. After I extracted it, ES File Explorer made a folder on my sdcard called "sdcard" with the install file in it. And I was stupid and ignored the fact that it should be on the root of the sdcard. Whoops lol.

Well at least it was an easy fix once you figured it out!
Anyways, I'm still having problems with the backlight staying on, but I should be able to provide that LogCat today at some point.
