[Q] 3rd party GPS app limited by the low resolution? - Flipout and Charm General

Hello forum
I just purchased a flipout for my frd as a X'mas gift (Merry X'max to everyone). However, my frd is very much relay on the GPS on hes phone to drive. He've got the tomtom on his HTC touch HD, n I was wondering if I can find any android apps to suit hes use.
After a bit of google, I found out that there r quite a range of android apps for this purpose, but now, I just worried that due the low screen resolution of the flipout, those GSP apps mite not be able to run properly.
Is there anyone here have the experience of runing one of those 3rd party GPS app on their flipout? if so, plz which one is that? or do u guys think that it is possible for filpout to preform such task?
thank you very very much!

iGo and Ndrive have been ported to the flipout screen

i use sygiy aura with my flipout..you only need the apk file...the maps are loaded via wlan and stored on the sd card

I'm using Navigon on the Flipout.

GPS Guru's...Need Mogul Advice & Apps

Guru's of the GPS world...
I need help. I now like using gps on my vzw-6800 but with rom 3.12 after all is loaded I have only 19mb of program memory. I like using Google Navigator 3.5 it locks on with radio 3.39 and good enough for me. Issue it needs 17mb to run and if I am below that it will not run. Worse if I get it running and start using other normal phone functions or apps it will crash due to lack of needed memory.
Q1
What GPS program you all use is which is not a complete memory hog or require at least 17mb in order to run?
Q2
Do gps apps which supply their own maps use less memory..if so which ones?
Please, please, please reply....I do you kind people use these apps

Use TomTom, it doesn't slow things down too much. I can run Mortplayer while GPS is tracking with no lagging. TomTom runs GPS from the sd card which takes up very little space on the phone. I still use AstroGPSlauncher though I know it may not be needed (I am on Verizon and need to still be superstitious). Garmin is a close second, but a little different to setup.
Thx...any part version of TomTom I need to be looking at...
Others...any input or comments???????
Morning,
Soft reset, 21.1mb of mem free. Open Garmin xt, base map, topo and stock east coast map all loaded= 14.7mb free. Thats on DCD 3.04 with 3.39R. I normally run a media player with garmin tracking away and bluetooth on when i drive any distance. I haven't had any problems with memory but i have a habit of doing a soft reset every morning.
If your going to be using your gps for in city then i'd say tomtom. Garmin maps are very expensive but they are real maps. If you have used GPS devices in the past then you will be familiar with how they work. Think on this. My garmin folder on my SD is 31.4mb, 5.04mb on my device. I think tomtom used something like 900mb on the SD? Can't remember but it was alot.
Hope this helps.
Chris
Getting any of those maps...was it all a download or you have to purchase a software box to get all this...any links?
I have the maps because they came with my gps. Imagin how happy i was to find they worked with my phone!
I have a friend who did get most of it from a tourrent. I don't have the link but he said it was just to search for it. But thats at your own risk.

[Q] CoPilot on Android Quesions...

I need some decent sat nav software on my HD2 Android phone for navigation and speed camera alerts (pocketgps). No I'm currently using TomTom in Winmo but that isn't available for Android. i have used CoPilot in the past and one thing that used to really annoy me was when it announce speed cameras as 'Safety Cameras'...Does it still do this? Is there a way to change it?
When i install the maps are they installed in my data.img or just on the storage card?
When I upgrade android does it still just work if i use the same data.img file? How about if I change to a complete new build where i can't transfer the data.img file?
Its a piad application and I don't want to waste my money if I can't use it after upgrading andriod.
Also is there a way of importing all my TomTom POIs to CoPilot?
Thanks in advance

[Q] GPS for Android

Hi,
I am using Winmo Energy ROM & Android Froyosense 2.2
I always use Garmin mobile XT for my gps, but i don't know what gps software should i use when i am on android?
thanks
I am happily using Sygic Mobil Maps
You could also try Ndrive available from the market
There is IGOmyway available as well. I use it right now
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Thanks
I'll try them to find which one is more suitable for me ( especially the need of Indonesia's map )
thanks again guys
ROnald
They all suck compared to Garmin. Hopefully they come up with an Android version. All though the one that come on the Desire HD seemed pretty swell! Tried it out for a bit but had to give up on the rom.

what is the software's name?
I tried one by one from previous replier, but it seems that i have to buy for the map/software
thanks
I don't except using GPS in android at all.....
Garmin is not free either. Hasn't been available by retail for a few years. Unless you find a hacked version. Or purchased it a few years ago.
And with a little googling you should be able to find igo or ndrive too. Igo can be a pain to set up and get working correctly on the HD2. Ndrive was a breeze. I have both.
You can always use the FREE google navigation app as long as you have a data connection. Also somewhere on xda someone has developed BRUT google maps. Where you can cache maps and add them to your storage card so you can use the app without having a data connection.
Ndrive is by far the best behind google maps. Its has a nice GUI, and so far routing has been pretty good for me.

I really like Copilot. Have had no problems with it and the interface is cool.
Can't find igo in market it is named something else
Device HTC Desire
Rom RcmMixSv08
SD class 4 6.40gb fat32 / 1gb ext3
S OFF
Radio 5.11.05.14
Hboot 0.93.1000
custom hboot Alpharev Cm7
Recovery Alpharev Cmw 2.5.1.8
Fake Flash Cwm 3.0.0.5
Copilot works fine for me too
#1 iGO myWay
#2 Aura
at least for me
I used IGO on my previous phone, but now I'm using Aura.
Both good, and always pointed me to my destination.
I've tried plenty of them. I think I should try iGO next as people seem to like it. Here's my opinions on some of the most popular navigators.
CoPilot Live 8 is quite solid one. It has a lot of features and POI:s everywhere. The UI is very smooth and fast, maybe the best you can get on phone navigator. The only downside is battery usage. From all the navigators I've tried, this definitely uses the most battery. I could drain almost 20% battery with less than 1 hour drive. So if you need to navigate without having a charger or spare battery at hand, I wouldn't recommend CoPilot.
NDrive 10 This is a real beast with battery, but it has it's costs - the UI is clutchy and laggy. Searching places is a real pain in the ass, because the keyboard NDrive uses is some custom one with strange position of keys. Some features are well hidden to menus, for example it was really hard to navigate a premade route. I would not recommend this program unless you need the navigating software that doesn't take all your battery.
Navigon After some difficulties with Gingerbread Android I finally got my hands on the newest Navigon and so far the experience has been good. The setup was hardest for all these navigators, as I had to use some quite laggy and badly translated PC program to download maps. Other option was to download them directly from phone, which was extremely slow and for some reason it only downloaded maps to another continent.
Navigon has quite smooth UI and seems to have plenty of features, although I am not sure if it has as much as CoPilot. Battery usage seems to be somewhere in between Copilot and NDrive.
Google Maps seems to be quite simple navigator and that's probably all what I need, not any fancy internet features as some of these navigators offer. The bad thing about Google Maps is that it hasn't got turn-by-turn navigation where I live. Maybe some day I can try navigating with Google Maps so I can tell how it compares to these other ones on the market.
I hope you got any help from these short reviews. If you need any more information, please feel free to ask!
Aura for me works perfectly.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
For offline navigation I use Aura GPS Navigation. But in my country I use Google Maps (brut for navigation ), it's the best.
I wanted to install iGo8, i did as well , but i removed it because of the lack of the possibility to move it to SD. If it's possible than please somebody tell me the trick, 'cause I used to have igo on my touch HD and I loved it.
igo primo +1
+1 igo 8 primo
Thnxx guyz for the response... I installed IGO .. and yehs it is good.. next thing I wanna try is Aura GPS... thnkx anyways
Where do u igo can't find it
