Battery Life - G2 and Desire Z General

I've been reading the thread about battery life and I was wondering if someone could just say whether or not its good or bad. Just give me how many hours it lasts you through the day. I use the nexus one currently and I unplugged my phone at 7:45 AM and it's now 11:33 PM and my Nexus One still has 25% battery life and its been on for 15 hours.
So will I be making a sacrifice going to the G2? Will my battery life be horrible?

Nah, your good. Come to the darkside.
Battery life couldn't be any better. Especially running CM.
[G2/HTC Vision]

i was in major debate on leaving my N1 for G2, my usb port broke in my N1 so i grabbed a G2 while the N1 is sent in to HTC. i told my girlfriend she can have my N1, i am happy with the G2 now in every aspect including battery.
i did tell the gf, she has to take care of the N1 like her child though, still love that phone and may want to use it again in the future.

I've had my phone unplugged since 3pm~ and it's currently 1:41am (nearly 11 hours later) and I'm at 85% battery. Running stock and haven't done anything besides a few calls and texts today. (Auto brightness and data sync are on with 4G going too) I could probably make the phone last over 48 hours if I left it idle. Beats the hell out of my last phones battery (G1)

Thanks guys, this has really made me feel alright.

My battery sucks

I used to think my battery was horrible. However, I did a complete wipe of my phone including the Dalvik cache and now it is better. I receive push email on my phone throughout the entire day. During a normal day's use I can go about 9 hours. Last night I left my phone alone complrtrly from about 8 pm till now after fully charging at 2 pm and I still have a little juice left. For those experiencing bad battery life you may wanna try wiping everything then fully charging and finally wiping the battery stats.

Battery life

I just order this phone online yesterday and was wanting to get a general consensus on the battery life on the phone... Coming from an HD2 and a nexus one before and a G1 before that I am tired of using smartphones with horrible battery life... I'm hoping to get battery life similar to that of the blackberry 9700 (I had that between my G1 and Nexus) which i was ver impressed with it's battery getting up to 2 days out of it sometimes... Is the battery anything close to that? or is it another fail for smartphone batteries?

The battery life on the Vibrant is right up there with the best of a powerful smartphone with a large screen. It will not be like the BB however.
I love the battery life on this phone I have only charged it twice sense last Thursday I seem to be getting 24 hours of normal use or more off this battery. Normal use for me is lots of testing and browsing the net I also been showing off avatar been using the battery for that.
I am very happy with the battery on this phone.

I too recently ordered this phone, and if the battery alone is better than then G1 I'll be happy. So far alot of good reviews. So hopefully a charger in my back pocket wont be necessary. I'll repost once I get it on Monday or Tuesday!
My nexus one got me about 4.5 to 5 hours heavy usage. This gets me 6 hours of heavy usage (straight internet). My n1 lasted a day of moderate usage, I noticed standby wasnt to great on it, but the vibrant I bet I could get 2 days light to moderate usage as I can already tell the Standby time kicks the arse off the n1....
Happy so far..

I once had a G1, worst battery ever! You will be pleased with this one!
I haven't been overly impressed with the battery life. I might have something installed that is sucking it dry but 8-10 hours is all I get from a charge (Of course this is during the initial "wow" period of getting a new phone).
Did my 1st battery test yesterdy. Unplugged it from the charger at 11am. Sittin at the throne browsing fb & twitter, email, xda (legs ended up falling aslep lol) Used camera & video for about 30 mins on the biggest resolution. Daughter was on youtube for about an hour in the car (Weird Al Yankovic's trapped in the drive thru on repeat smh). Surfing the web for a good 45 mins while wifey & daughter shopping. Watchng avatar. Get home at around 10pm and battery just now dopped to 50%. Best battery ive had since my bb8700! hopefully a higher mah stock size battery is in the work so my vibrant can go on beast mode!
Lol I had the 9700 no smart phone would have the battery life that thing has unless a new form of battery technology emerges that thing best point is to live

FYI just got mine and it is charging now. At the store I checked out the battery stats on the demo unit (in theory it has had a good deal of play time from customers) and it was at 32% and unplugged for 2 days and like 5 hours. That is damn GOOD. If we get custom kernels on this thing, that would be intense.
I think it's pretty bad. I only have exchange email on it and nothing else syncing. Even when I'm not using it much the battery is down to 70%. What's worse is that the battery meter will appear to be 100% even when it's downto 82%. I have to charge it after about 8 hours and keep in mind I have a 9700 that is my #1 for email and messaging via bbm. I could only imagine if this were my only phone. I'd probably need to find a charge after 6 hours. It's better than the hd2 however but I go 2 days without charging my blackberry so I hope that's not what you're looking for.
I will however any that for a super android device it probably had the best battery when compared to the evo, incredible, droid x etc

You can get a good 10 to 12 hours out of it with heavy usage, which is great for a smart phone .
In terms of fast, large screen smartphones, the battery life is slightly better than average in my opinion. It's a 1500mah pack as compared to the 1150mah pack in my G1. It's definitely not to the point where I would like it to be, but there isn't a phone on the market that can really provide me with that capability (unless some type of new battery tech comes out).
You can just go into your settings, then about phone and then battery usage and you'll see a breakdown of what your usage was since the last time it was plugged in charging. For me the screen is still dominating the power usage. That should be pretty typical of any large screen smartphone. Since the AMOLED is 20% more efficient than LCD it should translate to slightly better overall battery life.
Remember guys, this is also battery life with the stock kernel. I'm sure once we get a dev team working on uv/oc kernels, we'll see some significant fluctuation in the battery life, much like we saw with the N1 almost doubling battery life with the right kernel.
I have to say, my battery life has been rather mediocre at best so far. Yesterday got down to 30% in about 8 hours, and all I did was send maybe 10 text messages and make two calls. I turned off Facebook and Twitter syncing in hopes that it would help. I barely used the damn thing and it ate through the battery. It's syncing my Gmail account and two Hotmail accounts (checking every hour). I hope that I'm just not noticing using it more. In cases when I do sit down and use it heavily, battery runs down incredibly quickly. I'm rather concerned.
I believe Froyo is better on battery
Thanks for all the info guys... Hopefully the phone will be in tomorrow so I can form my own opinion *crosses fingers*
Not good. Battery lost 30% overnight in 9 hours with SetCPU set and it set to GSM Auto PRL... :-(

Conditioning is a myth... LiOn batteries don't need to be conditioned. The phone needs to be conditioned to properly report the battery, but it shouldn't be this bad.

[Q] Battery Life so far?? Report!!

Hey new myTouch 4G owners. I know your loving your phone so far but I and many others want to know one thing. How is your battery life so far? Compared to your previous phone?? and have it manage a day through your heavy usage yet?
Thanks!
P.S: if you can, report your "display" on time or just take a picture of "battery use" ..
I use the "Battery Left Widget". It's about 80% calibrated right now, reporting that my full battery life (based on my usage) is roughly 15 1/2 hours.
Having used the same widget on the Nexus One, I'd say it's pretty much right in line with what I was getting there.
Hmm I guess no great battery life then?
I must say though that my phone probably isn't the best representative for battery life... Reception here at work is weak, causing the phone to boost it's power output.
When I am at home, I get much better battery life.
I picked my phone up on the morning of launch and I'm still on my first charge (15% left). I've used it for calls, texts, pictures, videos, apps & widgets and I installed the ota update. I've had great battery life so far.

Mine only came about 60% charged.
So far my battery has been the best of any android phone so far (Nexus -> G2 -> MyTouch 4G). I have about 10 sync accounts going (2 gmail, facebook, rss feeds, etc) and with moderate use I have 40% or so at the end of a day. Screen is on auto, quite usable in any light.
Wow..not bad..so what are your display on time saying? It's in the battery use section, click on display.
guess not then
my battery is ****. I had to charge it half way through the day, but I'm an android noobie and lookin to get this thing going easily a whole day hopefully.
my battery life is ok. doesnt last the whole day for me but i text a lot make some phone calls and download apps and play games like assassins creed and nova.
The battery will need a few charging cycles to reach its full potential. I'd recommend fully discharging and fully charging it the first few times (and every so often after a few weeks of use). You probably won't get the most representative results on day 2 after launch. Was the same for my Nexus and G2

Oh ok i will have to try that out. I usually charge my phone when it gets down to 20 percent. But i left it fully charge over night
Mine seems about 4 hours shy of my G2.
My weekdays are 20hrs on G2 and about 16 on mT
Weekends are about 12 hrs on G2 and about 8 on mT
Amazing in terms of any other android phone I've owned.. Without a task killer

For some reason when it's rooted it lasts longer. If I don't root it the battery goes fast.
myTouch4G (Glacier)
i fully discharged when i got the phone and charged it over night. I went to an air show today and unplugged it around 9. its now 10 and i still have 25% left
(i uploaded pics to my blog and facebook, made calls, got text, checked football scores, and used google maps)
i'm impressed. Way better then when i had my EVO
everyone is giving answers as either "my battery life is great" or "my battery life sucks" but that doesnt really say anything... your battery life is gonna be amazing if you dim the screen to zero and dont use data :/ its all gonna be on how you use the phone and everyones gonna use the phone differently...
bottom line... the answer to this question just has to many variables
I am happy with battery life so far... while not analytical, I am getting as good or better tham MTG3. I was able to play Monopoly for an hour and the better was still 3/4.
I bought the MT this past Wed and when I bought it, the level was at about 40-50%. I was messing around with it, adjusting it and it lasted for a good 3-4 hours with the factory charge.
I let it die then fully charge and removed it from the charger. That charge held from 5am all the way until 1am the that late evening with regular use. It died and again I did a charge and disconnect.
I have done this same cycle for the last 3 days and right now. I can consistently keep a high charge for the most part of the day with average use. I disconnected the charger this morning at about 1 am, and here I sit now at 945pm with still over 75% charge.
Seems like this phone really likes the power cycles right now. Full to dead, recharge then remove until dead...etc.
Since Wed afternoon, I have charged my phone only 3 times since purchase, and right now it is Sat night. This is with average use, brightness set about 25%, auto sync only for email, weather, tmobile and no task killer used
You must remember this phone is using a powerful 1Ghz snapdragon, with a small battery. By default android uses the governor called ondemand, in other words it automatically shoots up to max freq during use. But once the 4G is rooted, you can use SetCpu to make changes, tmo will probably make an update though to address the issue. I can't really see extended batteries being made to small without needing a new back. I'm considering the 4G, I currently use both phones in my sig, my slide can get 2 days max, my G1 around 10hrs. It all depends on how you use the phone.
tips:
-turn down brightness
-turn off gps/Bt/wifi
-switch to 2g/3g/H depending on signal
-dial *#*#4636#*#* to modify radio settings(2g/3g/etc)
-turn off background updates(twitt/fb/flickr/etc)

battery is drain

so i just got the epic like 3 days ago and i noticed that it darins the battery super fast unlike the mesmerize well today i had it fully charged and i unplug it from the wall and then sat it on the counter and took a shower and then i checked it and it was already on 90%..... its only be like 5 mins give or take lol i did the calibrate trick to and everything was on 100% when i did it and right when i turned it back on after the wiping the battery it was already at 98%
so do i have a bad battery or umm is it just me lol the only thing i did on the phone was root it and turned it into EXT4 and then installed the franken rom
Get used to it. Buy spare batteries.
It is Samsung's crappy software probably. Make sure you do the airplane mode trick and kill the drm service. Also make sure any apps you installed are not misbehaving. Battery life is still going to be the worst of any phone out there though.
I have had my Epic for about two weeks(I came from a Moment, then a Transform). I havent run a stock rom since I got it. I use my own modified DK28 rom. I have no sprint bloatware. Average use my batter lasts 14-16+ hours.
Im guessing probably around 45 mins of calls, and 100+ texts, and 1 hour or so on the web/market is my average use.
I found when I first got my phone I was using it constantly checking out all the cool things it could do. Four or five hours with the display on drains it pretty fast.
The battery I have in now is showing 18h 4m since unplugged with 24% remaining. Display on time is 2hours 28 minutes, which is taking up 86% of the battery.
I purchased a wall charger with two spare batteries off ebay for $10. The two spares last almost as long as the stock battery but not quite. The wall charger seems to charge the batteries better then the USB port on the phone.
Definately get some spare batteries and make sure to carry one around with you. One fits in your wallet with no problems. As I have told people before you are basically walking around with a handheld laptop.. Be glad we get the hours out of a charge we do...
Also baffles me why people want dual core phones.. They think batteries get drained now, wait till the next generation phones come out. Unless they add much larger batteries then those things will go quick.
My battery life has gone from below average to 'functional' after rooting and installing JuiceDefender. I had Tasker running similar scripts before but eventually replaced it with JuiceDefender.
Root: Nebula 1.07 EXT4. Removal of bloated Sprint software and non-essential apps.
JuiceDefender Settings:
Controls > Data, Wifi (AutoDisable), AutoSync (Ping)
Schedules > Schedule 1hr, Night (12am --> 6 am)
Triggers > Battery 15%, SCREEN
NOTE: System Panel confirmed that CPU now idles at 1%-3% during screen-off with the expected jump to 10% during the 1hr interval syncing.
18 foot long charging cable then just keep it plugged in. Get the portable charger that you can charge while on the go
Or just close some widgets and apps using the internet and all the 4g/GPS etc. to save battery....
Well I just thought the epic use as much battery as the mesmerize and my mes was really good

Its your kernal and stuff. Stock 2.1 di18 has horrible battery life. Put the phoenix kernal in or flash stock dk28. I constantly get over 24 hours on a charge with 2:30-3:30 screen on time with stock dk28 and would be atleast 30hour charge wth the phoenix on 2.1 with same usage...

Probably the Time without signal bug in the radio firmware. Read this post for info on the workaround. My phone went from 10 hours to well over 24 hours by following these steps. The short answer is, every time you unplug the phone or reboot toggle airplane mode on for 15 seconds.

Yea battery sucks, welcome to the world of monster smrtphones. Anyway, once we get source for 2.2 (IF we ever do I should say), devs can optimize the kernel and hopefully give us better battery life. If you care about battery, stay on 2.1 and flash a custom kernel. Good luck tho, best option is rly to buy a spre battery, as has been suggested already.

I just some of the upgrades in the development forum, and even added the Midnight Rom, and my battery is doing better than what it was before. I am very impressed with the things I added to my Epic 4g and this site for all of the awesome info.

I wouldn't suspect the ROM, but rather battery, charger, cable, port... store can check those things out for you.
In re to what you can do in theory, modern ROMs/android OS handle things pretty efficiently so I don't think it is something you have done - that is if you are not overclocking and leaving it on your oven when cooking.
Make sure you are at like 3 percent before recharge. Do that a couple times and out will restore your battery, worked for me

Wow I hope your battery worked itself out in the end. I just have another question. How long should a stock MyTouch 4G battery last?
Even before I rooted my phone and tried a bevy of roms known for their battery life, but I never get passed just about 9 hours. I used my phone moderately text messaging, surfing periodically and playing music and podcasts in between classes. I have turned off auto sync and did the battery stats wipe.
Just wondering if my expectations are too high. Nine hours is nice, it gets me through the day but then I lose it for a couple of hours in the afternoon to charge up for the remainder of the day.
Thanks again guys!

Try TDJ's CM 7.2 kang. I have gotten over 24 hours on that ROM.
Battery life is like fuel mileage. Its how you drive it. One person may get 17 mpg on a car that someone else gets 22 in. Screen on time is better to go by. A good ROM/kernel combo will get you around 4 hours screen on time. Maybe more.

Nexus 4 Battery Life

Hey Guys,
A bunch of people are complaining about the battery life on Nexus 4. I've been waited for a couple days since I got the device, to have enough confident about the battery before I make any post here. Yes, the phone battery drain pretty fast on the first few cycles. After a bunch more charges later, let me tell this, the battery life did get significantly better. It lasted about 10-15 hr depends on the load of the usage.
Here is my typical day, off the charge at 100% in the morning, listen to a few songs, checking emails, and messages while getting ready for school. About an 30mn to 1hr of internet browser and youtube videos while on the bus. By 1-2pm the battery drop the about 70-80%. I put the phone in silent mood til i'm done with all my classes. On the way back home on the bus, I listened to a bunch of music, web browsing, maybe a few phone calls, texts or games.
Compare to my old phone, Samsung Galaxy S2 T989, im impressed with the Nexus 4 battery life. My Galaxy S2 battery always die on the bus coming back home. What I'm trying to get at: if you're a light to medium user like me, then get this phone. I was hesitate at first because I always have bad experience with android battery life. But Google seem to get its OS right with this nexus device, mainly because the battery drain minimum while in sleeping mood.
Can you post your Nexus 4 battery performance screenshot if you have been using the phone for more than a few days ?
Is there supposed to be a question being asked? Or a statement as this is in the Q&A forum.
I agree with you on many points. People need to wait at least 5 to 7 days for the battery charge to fully kick in. The first days mean absolutely nothing as it is still being aligned plus the user is still installing apps and setting up their phone.
There are some notable problems in the default kernel that uses more battery Usage than normal too.

From full battery to this overnight + breakfast usage. Rasbean + Matr1x v3.0. Never seen anything like it. Coming from the GN, this phone is a different dimension altogether. On any aspect..
Had phone for 5 days. Drained phone to 10% then fully charged. Moderate to light use made it through a day.

Depends on how much screen time you got, which you didn't show us.
The trick is to be careful about using mobile data when signal is bad, I switch to WiFi when home to avoid unnecessary battery drain.

What is this obsession for battery life, it lasts me well through the day with moderate/heavy use. I charge it at night (if needed) and unless you are homeleless this shouldn`t be a problem. It`s a great phone and i enjoy using it.

I thought the same until my N4 actually arrived, it seems battery life is abysmal compared to my Optimus 2x which didnt have anything really spectacular in regards to battery size. On my O2x I could get 1.5 - 2.5 days depending on use, hitting atleast 1 .5 which was good and acceptable for me (I can charge at night anyways) however my N4 doesnt even reach 13 hours on similar usage!.
I am quite a light users of smartphones however I do like to have a power phone when it comes to using it on the basis of smoothness and capabilities if I need to say do work on my phone, I rarely play games though. Main usage is 2 email accounts on poll 1 hour steps, a third account that is an exchange server and polls in 30 minute steps and thats about it with some brief browsing and a handful of texts (been a quite time since I got my N4), this is less usage than my O2x and yet it still performs alot worse!
I was hoping of staying with stock as I was expecting it to finally be good, comparing it to LG stock attempts it is but battery life isnt . I will be trying the combo Vangelis13 mentioned, raspbean and matr1x kernel as that seems like a great mix however Parandroid has been on the table and it seems like alot of being are getting good results so I will try it soon .
If I can get more than a day of usage I would be really happy, if I was playing games or doing really heavy tasks I wouldnt expect it to last but right now it is doing pretty much nothing and dieing far to fast!.
One thing I've noticed since coming to N4 from S2 is that phone calls drain battery much more significantly on the N4. I could make an hour long call on my S2 and it would use no more than a couple of percent battery but the N4 used 15% for an hour long phone call the other night.
If I didn't own a nexus 4 and came to this thread to find out about it's battery life I would expect it to be good.
Point is you guys are misinforming everyone. The battery is mediocre and that's it.
It won't last a full day if you use it constantly and I do need two charges / day many times.
Let me put it this way, you will only get roughly 3 hours of screen time on stock everything. If that is good for you then it's will have good battery life, if not then you will say it's got poor battery life.

you are perfectly right.
I come from an iPhone 4s, which I changed because the battery life wasn´t that great and I thought it was time to try something new.
Got the N4 last friday and played around with it during the weekend.
Monday, tuesday and wednesday this week... none of these days I´ve been able to come back home with the phone still on.
I wake up at 7.30am and I usually am back home at 6pm.
In my opinion, and honestly should be in everyone´s opinion, 10 hours of battery life are unacceptable, whatever the usage is (considering that 7.30 of those 10 hours I was at work)
I have till friday this week to return it, which is a pity because the phone is great
i get 5-6 hours sot..
rom is omnirom 5.1.1 hellscore kernel b73.
100mv undervoltage hellsactive governer.
think 7 would be possible if google services would not take a quarter of the battery.
the screen is not taking that much battery as one would think.
think most issues with battery life come from fake original battery replacements.
had 3-4 sot using "original" battery. but after replacing with real genuine from official lg spare parts shop 5-6...
