I think there's no free sim unlock method, unless you call your provider and ask them the sim unlock number.

thats probably the only thing you cant get for free online. so many sites claim to do it for free but none of them do. however, your carrier might give it to you for free. for example, in canada, Wind Mobile gives it to you if you buy the phone out right, and use it for 3 months with them.

I used cellunlock.net to unlock my canadian Virgin Legend, took 50mins to get my code, only CAD$20 (less than USD$20!)
I used crackb50 coupon code to bring it down to CAD$10
Edit: It looks like they only unlock canadian Virgin/Bell Legend and now charge $30 - 50% = CAD$15

Free but it's not always the easiest thing to get. Sometime you just have to bite your teeth and go to ebay and get a code. THere is a couple posts on here with credible places to get unlock codes if T-Mobile wont give it up. Also make sure to mention you are going out of country and need the unlock code to use other cell phone companies in said country. Also I believe it's the law that they have to give it to you so also try to mention that.

Yes, T-mobile will do it for free if you call them and ask them that you need your phone unlocked.
Call T-mo, tell them "I am going to Japan (or whatever) next week and I need my phone unlocked so i can insert a foreign sim for two weeks."
Psychoace was correct.
They might try to tell you they have an international plan but be firm and they will email you an unlock code within 48 hours. I've done this on my wing and then my g1 in previous years. no hassles.

I need to unlock my HD2. I need to get the 25 digit activation code. Does anyone on here know how to do this or could point me in the cheapest direction for the newest database? i know mine needs a code from the most up to date database.

There is a lot of threads on this exact subject, please use search next time.
Now as for your question yes you can simple unlock your HD2 as well as most other smartphones that require a simple card to work. I see your carrier is listed as T-Mobile so all you have to do is contact T-Mobile And tell them you need a unlock code cor your HD2. Tell them you are going to have to go out of country for business or a vacation and you want to be able to use a local carrier's services while there. Or if you want just tekl them you are going to terminate your contract with them and switch to another carrier, but still want to use your HD2 and not have to buy another phone. I recommend the first suggestion myself but hey sometimes honesty is the best policy. Your other option is to go to Ebay and buy a code. they are not expensive at all. It is up to you how you want to go about getting your code. Be advised though using your HD2 with another carrier. You will only get Edge signal for your data signal. This is because of the hardware in the HD2 not the software. If you are switching to AT&T the Australian HD2 can use AT&T's 3G Signal but no other HD2.

I just got the phone off Craigslist, I didn't waste time spend little $, went to three sites, try and get codes, no luck, waste times, n hope I ll get my $ back. After 2 weeks, I finally got unlcok code from the seller, who's carrier is tmobile, since I asked him I can't get the unlock code from different sites, so he finally forwarded tmobile email w unlock code to me. So especially u r with t mobile , and why not hv they give u code?

You can get a friend who uses tmobile to do it for you? You get one unlock code every 90 days. I've unlocked two phones already including my HD2 and they don't care whose phone it belongs to.
All they ask for is the IMEI, the phone model, and an email address to contact you to send you the code. At first I got a confirmation email a day after calling, then the three days later they sent me the code.

Not from my experience, I previously had a Samsung phone with TMobile and when I called them and told them I wanted to unlock an HD2 they didn't ask any questions and just asked for phone info. They even offered me free unlimited internet for a month as a promotional offer, lol.
Just make sure your bill is paid, they won't give you the unlock code if your bill is outstanding.
TMobile has some awesome service, I'm going to miss them.
yea, i have an outstanding bill. i tried calling them and just saying i bought the phone off of someone. they said they needed the original owner to call them. guess ill just get 1 off ebay.

well you could say them that you need to use a nother sim when you travel ... etc etc, about payment it depents one carrier - i hope you can get it for free.

if your carrier doesn't offer to unlock the phone, you can get the unlock code on ebay for about 10 or 15 dollars, in about 10 minutes.
I've messaged to ebay sellers. But one of them said that we can't unlock this phone. Because codes are wrong. So any other suggestion?
Keep trying, some sellers only have version 1 of the unlock database, some have later versions , but they may charge slightly more.
1- call your carrier (did you even try this option?)
2- find an ebay seller who will give it a shot. you stand to lose 15 bucks, but i have heard of success stories.
carrier or someone selling; there really aren't other options.

The device isn't mine originally. I bought it off someone in hopes I could unlock it. I tried calling T-Mobile but they requested the original owner to talk to instead. I've been trying to get the O.G owner to do it herself but she's been dragging her feet on it so I thought I'd try to do it myself instead on waiting on her
Other than paid services you can buy online, I'm not aware of any free methods, (Never gone looking for them though)
I'd call T-Mobile again, and say that you bought the phone from a 2nd hand shop, you don't know who the previous owner is etc

Welp I got screwed. Called T-Mobile and found out that it was blocked due to non-payment on the device. Great.
Bad luck man, if it was through eBay / Paypal, try get in touch with the seller and get a refund / open a case against them if they say no
I`ll keep my eyes open for anything that might help and post it here
