Shutdown animation .cfg file - Vibrant General

So I want to customize my own shutdown animation. I am following this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732311
I have 370 .png files (480x800) along with a .cfg in /system/media/video/shutdown. The only problem i seem to be having is that When i go to shutdown my phone, my first frame will come up, and the first 1-5 frames or so will play, and then it will just stop playing and my phone will just down. I know it has something to do with the .cfg file and how its written but i cant figure it out.
I know that by default the Vibrant is limited to 14 frames at shutdown, however i used the config file in the tutorial claims to remove that limit. That didnt work so i tried to edit it based on .cfg files that i saw. still didnt work.
Can anyone explain to me how to write this .cfg so that it plays my shutdown animation all the way through? thanks.
Dont tell me I posted in the wrong section please, I wasnt sure where to post so I followed the lead of the tutorial, which was under development.

I recently made a shutdown cfg file that had more than 14 images. I used the text 0123456789 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 . . . . It did work (but I eventually scrapped it in favor of a single image shutdown).
One thing you could do is grab the shutdown cfg of a custom ROM (I looked at axura 2.1) and see how it appears.

thats exactly how i rewrote mine earlier today, all damn 370 pngs, and i got the same symptoms.
i cant figure why its happening, im running Fusion1.1, but i know that your ROM/OS version doesnt affect shutdown animations.

Hey TopShelf...how is it that you have enough room on your system partition for a shutdown animation with 300+ images? I am trying to create one with 150 and the folder is 40mb, but I only have around 30mb free on the vibrant.
Do you simply have more free space, or are my images too big? (I made the png's 480x800)
Also, is there a way to control the speed the images are shown? I thought to cut down the amount of fps to get my shutdown folder down to a smaller size, but that just makes the animation fly by.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Could it be an issue with the zip? My experience is that it is very quirky. In root explorer, it kept showing old shutdown_x.pngs as thumbnails and sometimes the animation would freeze. I had to try it a couple of times before it took.
But mine was more of a slideshow than animation and I didn't have 340 shots.
To delay the speed, could you just have the cfg repeat a png? 12333334444...?

You can avoid the old images showing up simply by deleteing the old shutdown further altogether BEFORE replacing it with the new one, instead of just dropping the new one while the old one is still in place and letting it automatically replace.
it just wont seem to play past the first 1-5 frames. Im honestly just about to give up

I was testing this all day yesterday I downloaded a working shutdown and added my own files edited the cfg file and samething happened to me. I tried using the images that came in the file and just editing them in photoshop without editing the cfg. Works like a charm. The only issue I have is making my own. I can edit others images but can't make my own or edit the cfg file.

thanks for looking into this, i appreciate your efforts.....ive hit a wall, i cant think of anything else to do/try....if anyone find anything, please let me know, and i will do likewise

I started to work on one months ago, it was around 60 frames and it worked just fine. When I get home i will upload it so you can play with it if you want? Still plan on finishing it but have been focusing on finals and other things.
370? Maybe there is a limitation to the amount of frames, or images you can use.
Here's the old thread. The download link is dead.

if you could just upload the .cfg file that would be great
yes 370 is a lot haha, but damn it i like making my phone cower in fear

Here's what I did. I don't know if this IS what caused it....or a huge coincidence. But I too was having the same problem with 86 .PNG files it would play about 14. When I looked at the properties of my shutdown folder I created in windows, it was checked as "read only" so, for the hell of it, I un checked it. Put it back in my SD, then into the shutdown folder via root file manager and it worked! Like I said.....I can't say for sure this had anything to do with it working, but its worth a try. I haven't tried another one mainly because I don't want it to not work again! Haha! Good luck.

Sorry completely forgot about this, lol. Here is the rar, just take the cfg out of it.
Did you try using your mouse with your left hand only? If you click the left mouse button three times and spin at least once in your chair the CFG will work. At least that's what I had to do.
LOL, I kid!!!

Hope it helps.

FYI I was able to get the shutdown working by editing the shutdown.cfg with Gvim.
maybe the editor you were using was causing issues.

Sorry for the let down....like I said....didn't know if that's what worked for me or not. But its just weird how it started working after I did that.

Downloading on Android browser

When i try to download files from rapidshare or zshare etc.. the counting clock never goes down to zero. It just sits at the same number the whole time. I have everything enabled and it stills gives me trouble. Its annoying when i am not around a PC and i come to xda to download stuff and im crippled until im at my PC again. Any suggestions Devs?
Not run into this issue before, have you even been able to Download to /sdcard on the G1 (never tried it)
additionally what ROM are you running??
Ya I have similer probs sometimes. Rapidshare doesn't like to show up for me at all. Zshare and others sometimes have that no counting count down. Thew way I fix that is hit back then click on link again. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries but always gets it, annoying yes, but works...
Now to get uploads working (besides email, that's easy)

Ive always been able to download to the sdcard any file i want using download crutch. Its just when i get to those countdown download sites, the countdown number remains the same.
Ive had this problem since jf rc33, i am currently running haykuro 6.0 rom
Someone told me to turn on javascript but it has always been on. Not sure wat 2 do next. Is your browser over refreshing also? like you hit home key, then go to like messaging to fire off an sms, go back to browser and the whole effing browser page is reloading again?

Not really nitcied it over reloading,,,, ill have a bash at it tonight when i get in from work and see what i see, on a side note when ou go into the browser again does pressing 'back' take you back to the last page you viewed? i can imaging the browzer shortcut on the home screen simply launches it a fresh so that might be the problem

Yeah it does take me back to the page before it, but i have to wait for it to refresh. Maybe holding down the home key and using the built in task switcher? Is that how you flip through your apps? As opposed to clicking the desktop icons?

I usually use the task switcher but usually messages come to me so i drag the notification bar down and it always keeps the browzer page/app im working on
Ok
ill start using the task switcher and see if its still happens
thanks alot ! ill repost with results
For the count down, when I hit back it goes to previous page, then click link again, not foward. Sometimes it will do nothing and do it again and it works. Sometimes I get 2 or 3 secs counting then stops, has to do it again, lol.
For uploads, yes its disabled, but there is a work around. Go to linda file mgr. Long press the file u want, select send to, then gmail (email doesn't work for some reason, has to be gmail). It will automatically bring u to a new email with the file attached ready to send. I've tested this with all types of files, test up to 7mb so far.
Wow!
Thanks for the tip ! I was in need of that attachment workaround. I remember i tried to send a few attachment emails through gmail on the phone and they all got stuck in the outbox. With a zip file though

Ya I've sent .apk .zip .mp3 mp4, they all work. When I was on jf rc33 my gmail app didn't work at all, all got stuck in outbox. Since 1.5 I've had no probs. Now I have backrounf serevices and all syncs turned off to save battery. So after I send it, I got to gmail app, go into outbox and hit refresh and it forces a sync, and volia sent.
I'm bout to send update.zip (45 mb) to my friend and see if that large of a file goes though.
And when I say all got stuck on rc 33 I mean even norm email no att, my gmail app on rc33 always said no connection. But that's like complaing about the graphics of my nintendo, with a ps3 sitting next to me, old news who cares, lol.
And sorry would just edit my previous post, but for some reason can't edit post from phone, lol
The download timers always countdown on my phone, but I have noticed more frequently I have a problem where it'll start downloading something with the actual download file name but instead of the actual size of the file, it will be something really small like 7kbs or 26kbs etc. Anyone else have this problem. Again its completely random sometime happened on files that I eventually was able to download correctly, but not so lucky on some files.

Yeah let me know how that works out because 45mb is pretty big and its a zip, if that goes through then im figuring nothing is impossible. The way i used to send files was use droid ftp to send files to my ftp server and send the link 2 the receiver
I have always installed Linda File manager and that helps to handle unknown file types. Just d/l'd the Haykuro addons for JF1.5 a few hours ago on the phone. Some of the file sites did not start the d/l, but i think finally z-share let me d/l it no problem...
EDIT: that file is almost 50MB, so you should have no issue. i believe i have done even larger, but dont recall what it was atm...

Have you used set cpu ?

[Custom Boot Animation] Water drop splash

Tired of Htc quietly brilliant boot animation? Here's a little something I made this afternoon. I used Uberadri's from MoDaCo custom animation (http://android.modaco.com/content/acer-liquid-liquid-modaco-com/308556/boot-anim-liquid-drops-boot-animation/) and replaced acer liquid logo with Htc Desire and I played around with the endless loop sequence, cuz' his was only two images long.
Here's a preview on youtube: HD-version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w86_ie52nZ0
LowRes version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKLXZMYnugs
Anyway, here's the link, use it if you will and how you will
- HD version: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ikumnld2nwg/RainDropSplash_Desire.zip 12.7Mb
- LowRes version: http://www.mediafire.com/file/zmiik3myizn/WaterDrop_Desire.zip 3.91Mb compressed - smaller file size, "Desire" image static
Installation:
adb push RainDropSplash_Desire.zip /data/local
tell me what you think
Looks amazing.
Can it also be installed by using recovery and apply the zip file?

Sure, that's how I installed it:
- boot into recovery mode
- recovery-windows.bat
- adb-windows.exe shell mount /system
- adb-windows.exe push bootanimation.zip* /data/local/
- adb-windows.exe reboot
*(ofcourse in this case it might be a good idea to rename the downloaded file from RainDropSplash_Desire.zip to bootanimation.zip
Whenver I try and make my own it doesn't work. Maybe it's something to do with the way I zip...even though I choose store Your boot animation looks great, however it is a pretty big file! It might be worth compressing the images further. Also, without sounding like a complete douche... Tyred should be tired
Is it a HQ version? It looks good, I'll probably install it later

From what I've gathered, it needs to be an uncompressed zip using 24-bit PNGs, and make sure you know what the desc.txt is doing and that it matches your images. Can you check all that?
I installed it and worked fine, but then I had to uninstall it for 2 reasons:
1) It's quite big, and I'd rather save the space for apps right now. MCRr3 only has 80MB free space and I'm not taking the risk of a2sd yet.
2) The animation is good, but the text looks really tacky. You could do with a better font, and colour to make it look slicker. The flashing "desire" text at the bottom should be static IMHO

I agree on both counts mate. It was a one afternoon job and I'm not quite crazy about the font resolution either. But as I said it's a quick make. In a couple of days I might come up with a non-HD version, crispier text and yes - static "desire" text.
@pympster:
My HD was actually 36bit, so I'm not sure if it's a necessity... try getting a bootanimation zip and just replace images in it with your own, leaving original
file namings intact. Worked for me

I tried simply inverting some of the images but this removes any bootanimation (just black screen). Any ideas?
Edit: I think its just the way Linux made the archive as I've now got a nexus one working. Still a bit of a mystery.
Send over the boot animation you had in mind, if it's a quick fix I can have it sent back to you in a couple of hours. No promisses tho

in say winrar you should select compression method: STORE. You probably left it on the default which is set to NORMAL

I've got it sorted now, I was using the linux command line and had to use the '-0' argument (which is as you said, store with zero compression). Thanks for your offer anyway though!

[Q] In call color question

I'm running TAZv9 mod and have a nice looking color mod that makes my phone look and run really nice. Just curious if there was anyway to change the color on the screen that comes up when you are in a call. It has a red background when the call ends and green while you are in the call. Is there anyway to change this to a blue or whatever when you are in the call...basically is this something that can be skinned with one of the programs that is out there(MetaMorph).
I'm 41 years old and my 20 yr. old son has gotten me into this whole rooting thing. I appreciate you all letting an old guy hang in your forum. I write test software for a living so I am interested in maybe getting to the point where I can start messing with my own software apps, etc.

I can probably put together a quick metamorph for you. The file is in Phone.apk
So instead of the green gradient you want a blue gradient? And keep the red gradient when it ends?
Just place the attached file on your sdcard in "AndroidThemes" and use Metamorph.

Just download the file and your computer. Hookup your phone and mount the sdcard. Then create a folder on it called "AndroidThemes". Next download "Metamorph" from the market. Run it and select the "blue-in-call" theme, and apply it.
Yes...I figured that out and it looks great. My questions were about what you used to modify the graphic (Photoshop)? Im hoping to start modifying some stuff and make my own graphics to use with Metamorph.

Couple of problems for CS user with Cyanogen 6

Hopefully this is the right place to post this question. I have installed the latest stable Cyanogen rom, but I'm running into a couple of problems:
1. I cannot send text messages that are more than a few words in length. I suspect this to be because the ROM was written with Sprint's settings, and those settings simply won't work with Cellular South users. Am I right in that there is something that I must change to get my texts to work correctly with Cellular South?
2. Reboots - this one is rather annoying. There is really no rhyme or reason as to why it does this. I can reboot my phone, and it will just sit there, with only SipDroid running in the background (as far as apps that I have added that are running), and my phone will reboot itself every few hours. Now, one thing that did happen was the 2GB MicroSD card that came with the phone died, and I replaced it with a Class 6 8GB MicroSD card. I can't remember if I had the reboot problems prior to that. Any suggestions to help me try to isolate the cause of this?
Thanks everyone.
Bump. Sorry about bumping this thread. Just do not want to have to go back to my stock ROM.
You need the APN settings for cs I think.

Does it by chance reboot when your GPS comes on? Open Maps (or anything you know will cause the GPS to become active) and see what happens. If so try the GPS fix. Used to be able to type ##GPSCLRX#, in Sense but you can't in CM, but there is a fix.
@ranger - it reboots even when the GPS is off (I generally keep it off). Thanks for the suggestion though. Maybe I just need to wipe it and reflash? Couldn't hurt I suppose.
@mrinehart - thanks. I'll do some searching for the "APN Settings" for Cellular South.
What's your total setup with cm6? Like kernel, overclock app and what not? But I believe all cdma users have the 160 character limit with the stock messenging app but if you use handcent or chomp you can bypass this by checking the split thread option in settings. Hopefully after hearing your setup I can help you figure out what's causing the reboots

@ThaSik1 - I was using just the stock messaging app. I didn't realize there was a limitation in the stock messaging app. My setup was just CM6 stable with the gapps installed. The only other apps that I had running constantly were Sipdroid (used for my GV + Gizmo5), and for overclock, I had been using the Overclock Widget. I have restored my stock CS ROM for now - but will applying the CM 6.1 RC1 ROM today.
Let me ask this - my stock CS ROM is 2.1. Would it be worthwhile to copy my APN configuration file from my stock ROM over the CM 6.1 configuration file? Or, would that cause problems?
To my knowledge it shouldn do any harm because the apn file that comes with Cyanogen roms dont have our carrier listed in it anyways. And if it does cause problems, i'll just attach my apn file (which is a modified version of cyanogen's to include Cellular south). But I dont think apn's do much good unless you have picture messaging..dont quote me on that tho lol As for your reboots, i can't see why it would be rebooting like that..If you wiped data and dalvik/cache, then flashed the rom, followed by gapps you should be good. Only thing i can actually see giving you problems would be if you had it overclocked too high since all heroes can't handle the 768 frequency
Flash Deca’s capped kernel to stop the random reboots

I do have picture messaging on my plan - I take it I will need to go ahead and use my a CS APN file. If you don't mind, then yes - please do post the Cellular South APN file that you have. I really do appreciate your help your help. This forum rocks!
I have installed CM6 RC1, and everything seems to work great. I took your advice on not using the stock messaging app and am using Handcent instead. I set it to split the messages. That appears to have fixed the texting problem. Handcent reminds me of my old iPhone texting setup, which I really liked. I have also set the Overclock to max at 691 to make sure that I don't run it too high (or too hot for that matter).
hahahaha no problem honestly i'm just paying it forward my good friend cuz i was once in your shoes lol.. To use the apn file i'm attaching, use an app from the market called "apn backup & restore".. install the app, use a file manager to place the attached file in the folder labeled "ApnBackupRestore", then open the apn app, click delete apns, then click restore apns. You might also need to reboot for it to take affect too lol and sorry to step on your toes in case you already know all of this info But i really hope Cm6.1 works out well for you cuz my Csouth hero is loving it!! haha
P.S. the xml file inside the attached zip is what you wanna place inside the folder lol

Wow, thank you again for your help on this. And no, you certainly weren't stepping on my toes. Thanks for the steps to take - I wasn't sure how to do any of that to be honest and would have been searching this forum for a long while most likely.
So far, CM6.1 has been rocking! I'll let you know how the APN goes. Thanks again!
@ThaSik1 - so far, all of the texts seem to be working great. Thanks again for your help! It really is appreciated.
No problem lol glad I could help honestly I always send myself a picture message just to make sure the settings stuck lol but if you run into any issues just shoot me a pm or maybe Impaler cuz he's more knowledgeable about this stuff then me

Thanks. And go easy on us in the Egg Bowl this year. It's going to be an ugly blowout......... lol
Now, I just need to get rid of where it says Sprint. I think that's been covered in the forum somewhere, as I think I remember seeing that topic.
Ha hey you know us dogs go all or nothing man hahaha but I can help ya with that sprint text issue lol I have the Eri.XML file ya need in order to change that but I can't post it from my phone..give me a sec and I'll boot up the laptop to attach it
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Edit: With this file (eri.xml), you need a file manager with root access (i know with estrong you can go to settings, scroll to the very bottom where root options is, then check the root explorer tab and mount file system. Once you back outta the settings copy the eri.xml file, look in the upper left corner and touch the slash button to end up on the root of your phone) Okay from there you wanna find the system/app folder and then paste the eri.xml file there. All ya need to do then is reboot and you should be good lol

Thanks for the help. I copied that eri.xml into the system/app folder and rebooted, but my lock screen is still showing Sprint. I noticed that there wasn't an eri.xml in the system/app folder to start with. Perhaps that has been changed to a different location in the CM6.1 build?
That or i told you the wrong destination lol..my bad..Mine says its listed in the "/data" folder..try that and let me know if it works for ya

[Q] Lost Sound

Hi Guys
This is weird. My shiny new Note 3 is about three weeks old. It's working 99.9% perfectly except for a slight sound problem. The problem is that when it is connected to a charging dock it USED to play a tone. Now it just vibrates slightly (but still charges). I also noticed that my camera doesn't make a shutter sound when I take a photo. I wondered whether the two issues are related in some way?.
All other sounds seem to be working OK on the Note3 (so it's not a volume setting) and I have checked whether option for the dock 'making a sound' is switched on. Additionally, there doesn't appear to be an option in the camera settings to switch on/off the sound, so it can't be that.
OK none of this is a major problem, but it is a bit of a niggle!
I hate niggly things! .
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
You made any changes recently?
Hiya
Yes, gazillions of changes due to installing apps! Too numerous to narrow it down to a specific action
Cheers

If you can't/won't narrow it down, how is anyone else supposed to?
Do you have these checked files in the screenshot?
Thank you. That looks like a useful screenshot - where do I go to check if the sound file is checked as in your screenshot? I guess thats your file manager isn't it? I'm using ES explorer and the phone isn't rooted. Do you happen to know which folder these sound files live? I did a file search and it couldn't find any of the files shown in your screenshot
Cheers

I use Root Explorer, those files are in system>media>audio >ui.
However, as far as I know you can't access the system folder unless you're rooted, so I think it's unlikely that you've deleted them.

Thanks again - at least I know i probably haven't deleted them. I don't suppose there's a way of 'force reinstalling' the stock camera app is there?

OK case closed - I hard reset the phone, reinstalled all the original apps and the missing sounds are back. Sorted! Bit of a drastic measure though
Still don't know WHY the sound disappeared from just the docking process and the camera shutter, but it least it's all fine now
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
