i cant seem to get mines to work. t-mobiles stays active

alright i got mines to work but it only says H not H+
Hspa is not the same as hspa+ which is supposedly 4g right?

H in mytouch4g means HSDPA+.
3G in mytouch4g means HSDPA
E is edge.

I have HSDPA not with the +(plus) symbol. I need help getting that + added on. any way how?

3G means UMTS, not HSPDA. The myTouch 4G doesn't distinguish between HSPA+ and HSPA (it's the same radio). I've also never seen a '+' icon, and I don't think one exists. The stock icons are as follows:
H = HSPDA(3.5G)/HSPA+(4G)
3G = UMTS(3G)
E = EDGE (2.5G)
G = GPRS (2G... Really ****ty 2G)
Note: HSPA+ is backwards compatible with HSPA, so if you're in an HSPA+ market, you will never have HSPA. The change is software, not hardware. (Some markets don't have it yet, I suspect, due to backhaul concerns, but T-Mobile is pretty good about that)

I am located in Los Angeles, CA.
Specifically located in Van Nuys.
Everything works. However MMS is finicky works sometimes and other times does not.
Also I only been getting 3G service so far not 4G at all at least not yet.
I am in a area where I would think be 4G everywhere.
Hopefully someone can help out with this problem!

I did both of those settings and that didnt work for me at all.. sometimes i can recieve mms and sometimes i cant. I tried to get through to CS but they have you on hold for a long time..and its annoying!!!!

I think it has alot to do with it being a T-mobile phone cuz they always try and make things hard for anyone using another sim carrier. I never got MMS to work until I flashed Cyanmod and even still it was on and off so I just told my sis to get a different phone to use with Simple M.

Man I love my mytouch 4g running on simple mobile!
.
I have some answers and some questions:
Simple Mobile throttles down your speed if they think you are using the hot spot. So if your like over 2gbs in a week or two they reduce your speed. Reason why is because in their terms of agreement you are not allow to use your hot spot or tethering of any kind.
I have a question, do you guys get the symbol 3G on your mytouch 4G? I never get that symbol. Its either running on H or E/G. My phone never goes from H to 3G. Only to E/G... The set up I have is basic to the stock phone except I changed some things like the name and added a new apn. So what do I have to do to get 3G? I rather go down to 3G than straight to edge >.<
My messages work perfectly, I get and sent messages on the spot, its very fast. In the other hand pictures I receive only work 50% of the time. Sending pictures works flawlessly. Is there a fix for that?

T-mobile apn settings

Ive currently purchased a unlocked vodaphone htc magic, but for some reason i cant access the internet with my t mobile sim. Has anybody got the apn settings for t mobile or know what i have to do to get 3g internet working thanx
First you won't get 3G with Vodafone HTC Magic since it only supports Euro/Asia 3G. You need either the Google Ion or T-Mobile myTouch 3G if you want to take advantage of T-Mobile US 3G.
Name: Whatever you want to call it
APN: epc.tmobile.com
The rests are blank (not set) until you get to MMSC.

Thanx kevstv that did the trick im on t mobile uk i was using us settings lol
I ran into the same problem, I purchased a Vodafone Magic and have been waiting for the 3G to kick in. Only after stumbling across this site did I find out this issue. Is there any software hack to get around this? The seller claims that the phone has a Google ion rom currently in it. I have know way of verifying that. Please give me some hope. I can't even get on to Edge. I currently have NO data at all unless on Wifi.
i have the same problem. i got the unlocked HTC Magic on aazon.com and ive tried these and other settings but i only get data over wifi. anyone now of any possible solutions
Under the APN settings if you plug in:
wap.voicestream.com
You can at least get Edge support under T-Mobile. I have combed the entire internet and found out that the actual hardware for the Vodafone Magic 3G antenna is different. There is no way around it. The example someone gave was trying to listen to a AM radio station on a FM only radio.
Thanks

If you flash a generic ROM or a custom ROM instead of using the default Vodafone ROM the APN settings AND MMS settings will automatically be set for the phone. All the ROMs I've installed on my unlocked Vodafone Magic 32b here in the UK have found the APN settings automatically.
Heres what I'm using at the moment
I didn't want any Vodafone crap on my phone since I'm not on Vodafone anyway.

^ Hey thanks a lot. Now it is working and you saved me hours of frustration!
i get 3G on the same rom using the radio 2.08.50.05
Radio is 2.10.50.26.
I'll try the apn thing in a bit.
Just noticed, the last octet of the proxy IP isn't valid. No octet in IP addressing starts with 0. Should I just put it in anyway?
Nevermind, saw the IP again like it should be.
So I hit Menu > Save but I don't see it in the "APNs" screen. Is this normal?
No its not normal. After you hit save on the apn screen it should return you to the "apn". This is because if there is more then 1 apn you'll be able to select it there. It actually the apn selection screen and you hit menu to add new apn.. and your right on the mms proxy ip it should end .050 ill edit the other post. Also keep in mind that sending and receiving mms in tmous can have tiny pics using a sense build. There is a fix for it in development. Haven't tried it cause I don't do a lot of mms, I just reboot to winmo to send them.

Hm well when I go to apn, what should I see? I hit the Windows key and I get a menu, aside from that I have a black screen labeled APN.
Nevermind, APN is there now. I'll let you know how it works when I get signal again. (No signal in my office).
Gets 3G, but no data connection. Followed the directions 100%. Argh!!!
Cycle airplane mode on then off and try again.. that is assuming u have a 3g icon in taskbar

I'll try that.
Says "H" which I think is HSPA, right? T-Mobile's "3.5G" or whatever...
Yeah... but the hd2 will only do 7.2 mb/sec.. and the h is actually hspa connection may not be hspa+. 3g is umts or whatever its called

No Internet

I am on a T-Mobile contract, most connections seem to work okay but my Browser goes nowhere, just keep getting page unavailable, even for Google.co.uk
Any links in twitter or emails just fall down as well...
Can anyone part some advice on the settings to cure this, thanks in advance.
I had the same problem, although I am on O2 in the UK (not T-Mobile like you).
I found that the APN details used when the phone automatically sets up the O2 connection were incorrect.
i recommend you Google the correct settings and then set up a new APN (do not overwrite your existing one), then set the new one to be default and try again.
You might have to kill your browser (or restart your phone) for the changes to take effect.
This link talks you through the procedure but you will need to substitute the correct APN values for TMobile... http://mobileguide.o2.co.uk/devices/device.jsp?deviceId=651&tab=8&step=2&settingId=3203 the web page is for the original Desire but the process is the same for the Desire HD

The password is "tm" without the quotes. I don't know who gave you those settings but they're crazy. There's a page on the support site that gives you the settings to use manually. Go to this link, click on the Manual Settings button and you'll see.

Out of interest, do you have the 3G/H symbol and all looks fine, but nothing actually loads? I've had that a bit this week, very annoying.

Perhaps accessing the Google Market is through a particular port that is not supported/allowed by your 3G provider.
For example I was recently in the UK and purchased a prepaid Vodafone SIM. I later found out that sending email through POP was not allowed by Voda.

[Q] Why doesn't 3G work on FroyoStone 3.2?

I downloaded FroyoStone 3.2, and it doesnt have 3G? Or is there a way to enable it. I want to be able to use internet everywhere like i did on WinMo. On WinMo all i had to do is turn the data connection on and it worked as 3G. Whenever i try to go on the andriod marketplace or just on the internet it comes up with an error saying. "Attention! A network error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen." Any fix? Please and thank you.
Have you checked your APN setting?
It is entirely possible that you may have to set up your APN. Search the forum there are threads with all the details everywhere.

no 3G for me.. i have a sidekick plan, it worked fine with 3G
using froyo 2.2
once i updated to v3.2 froyostone
all i get is edge..
i tried alternatives.. adding apn settings
changing radios.
although i cant find a full hiptop internet settings write up online
all i could pull up is the apn address
im actually using the radio i had before.

[Q] Speedtest.net and Nexus 4 problem

I have the Speedtest.net app on my Nexus 4 and ever since I got the phone I can't properly run a test my ATT speeds. On Wifi it works great but when I turn off Wifi, Speedtest freaks out and it either gives me a very high ping around 260ms and the download is ALWAYS 0.01Mbps and upload stays around 0.5Mbps or sometimes it won't even connect and gives me error but I do get an IP and I can surf the web so it's not a connection issue.
I've attached a screenshot of what it looks like.
My main question is why can't it pick up a regular download speed? I never had this problem with my Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks
Probably the proxy settings in your APN. Remove those and you should be good. Post up the settings from the APN you're using if you're not sure what to edit.

Are you talking about the ATT APN settings?
If that's the case yeah, here is what it says:
Name: ATT WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless[dot]cingular[dot]com
Port: 80
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
Server: cingulargprs.com
MMSC: h t t p : / / mmsc[/url][dot]cingular[dot]com/
MMS proxy: wireless[dot]cingular[dot]com
MMS port: Not set
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: default, supl, mms
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable si grayed out but it's checked and enabled
Bearer: Unspecified
Out of this what do I need to change if anything? And why should I since every other app has no problem accessing the internet but only this one?

Delete everything out of the Proxy setting. [Edit - you can delete the data out of the Port entry directly below Proxy as well]
I would guess that AT&T probably blocks or throttles this on their side to control bandwidth.
Yup, that did it, but wow I'm getting some really crappy results.. under 1Mbps
If your account is provisioned for HSPA+ you'll probably get better speeds using the phone or pta APN. There are a couple recent threads discussing this. I'll link later if you can't find anything.

Had the same issue. I created a new APN with the server name phone now all is well.
Search here and you'll find more details.

I had that too with no change to my APN settings so I switched to Tmobole on straight talk and saw a difference. I might switch back to At&t on straight talk in the coming weeks ....

USA AT&T use these settings
Name: AT&T HSPA+
APN: phone
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set
Password: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC 410
Authentication type: Not set
APN type: default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Bearer: Unspecified
you should get around 5-7 mbps, and MMS works correctly (both sending and receiving)
If these settings DO NOT work, then you need to call AT&T and have them upgrade your data plan to allow 4G! This will be free of charge.

No no no, don't do this or use those settings.
OP, you didn't mention that you are on a MEdia Net plan (dumb phone plan) and that is confusing the people trying to help you. Any time you mention cellular issues, you should specify the plan you are using.
Now, OP I can tell from your APN that you ARE on a MEdia Net plan. Next time, I would recommend you search the subforum for MEdia Net it will bring you to this thread, where the issue has been identified and resolved.
I posted on page 3 regarding the issue, which uses the same resolution that bedoig prescribed: delete the entry for proxy.
Now, being that you are on the MEdia Net plan, you won't be able to get speeds above 875KB/s down (7Mbps), even on HSPA+:15. AT&T apparently caps all dumb phone plans to that bandwidth. You won't get LTE and the phone/PTA APNs will not work for you. Those are smartphone APNs, so you should only use the default APN (which was automagically selected for you) but you can delete proxy to use bandwidth tests.
You could switch to a more expensive DataPro plan to get marginally faster speeds, but you'll be capped at 2GB/month and there's a chance you'll be caught tethering. I don't recommend you switch to DataPro for the very slight and unnoticeable upgrade in speed. AT&T doesn't monitor data use on MEdia Net plans so you can use well over 2GB on your current plan without issue. As I've mentioned in that thread and in several of my posts, I've once used over 12GB in a month; tethering for myself, my roommate, as our many guests because Comcast was being sheisty.
Now you've got all the info you need, and see that it was already available in another thread. I would recommend this thread for deletion because it adds clutter, not value. If people search for this answer, they will be linked to both threads.
Thats not necessarily true, my apn was originally the wap cingular one as well because I was using a nexus one prior, upon changing to the 'phone' apn, everything worked.
Depends how much the op is currently paying for data plan I guess if those settings don't work.

Well if it is going by plan, I have the grandfathered 'unlimited' plan and the APN settings seemed to work for me. Yup, 12Mbps down here!
I got another problem. Once I do a test and the speedtest uses GPS. GPS doesn't switch off and kills my battery unless I do a reboot.
I'm running AOKP, so it could be a problem related to that.
That's insane

What are your APN settings? The stock ones? I'm getting about 4 Mbps down, nowhere near yours. Where do you live?

Im using the APN from the first page. I live in Cleveland, and ya, it's completely dependent on your location/network there (at least it seems to be).
Same problem here

Speedtest has never worked for me on this phone. I get aping but that's it.. maybe 30 seconds later I get a connection issue and the option to "try again".
