[Q] Duplication of Items in order? Different Item numbers but similar description? - Venue Pro General

Not sure if this question has been asked before - I couldn't find it about the DVP.
I placed an order on 12/1 - it's still "In Production" and has an estimated delivery date of 12/14.
On the actual order, there are various "Item Numbers" for each "component" of the order... so my question is, why are there three separate Item Numbers that reference warranty information (and they're all different)?
1 927-3713 Advanced Exchange Limited Warranty Initial Year
1 927-3693 Dell Hardware Limited WarrantyInitial Year
1 991-1209 No Warranty beyond 1 year
Do they actually mean something different? What is Advanced Exchange Limited Warranty? For you people who've placed order with Dell directly before, is this normal?
Also, the first line reads:
1 225-0433 Dell Venue Pro Smartphone, 16GB, UMTS 2100,1700,900, BLK
Straightforward enough, it's the actual phone hardware. So why is there this line item:
1 331-1145 Dell Venue Pro Smartphone TMO KIT,BLK,400 with SIM
I bought the phone off-contract and didn't activate a new line or upgrade. I thought it would not come with a SIM. Also, the verbiage TMO KIT on that line seems to me to mean that the phone is TMobile branded... What do you guys think?

Thanks for the reply. Still curious as to what that "TMO KIT" verbage means. I guess it could be referring to being locked to TMo...

Questions on selling a phone

I think I'm going to pony up a few hundy to get an iphone since I like its browser capabilities and am tired of my phone's extra bulk.
Questions are (a) what's the best place to sell it other than ebay ? (b) I guess I must keep the sim but what does the buyer do to get another one ? (c) does ne1 know if I can just activate an iphone with an existing account ?
Gotta say I'll miss the APmemo's free-form stylus input which I use quite a bit.
Thanks a bunch

a) No idea.
b) They can do anything they want. Either pay-as-you-go or contract. HOWEVER, if it is not SIM Unlocked (ie you bought it from a phone provider such as T-Mobile and they subsidised the price of the phone and locked it to only accept SIM cards for their network) they will require a SIM from the same provider you bought it from UNLESS you (or they) unlock it.
Note this doesn't apply to phones which are supplied unlocked such as phones from Dopod and HTC.
For details on how to unlock a Hermes, see the page on the wiki here
c) No idea, but I would guess it would be SIM locked, probably to AT&T, so as long as you have an account with AT&T you can use it.
This method of unlocking an iPhone made me chuckle, although I don't know enough about the iPhone to be capable of saying whether its worth it.
Thanks but mine is already unlocked.
I guess I'll need to talk to ATT about transfering the plan.

Why are we talking about an iPhone in this forum?
I thought you need the iPhone plan to use the iPhone with AT&T, not your existing plan.
I have no idea of where you live but I use Craigslist to sell all of my phones.
If you are selling your phone, just take out the SIM, they should have their own. If they don't they can just go to the store and get one.

Look under "Android Dev Phone 1". This IS an HTC Dream, and it ships with the engineering bootloader and a root-enabled system image. It also comes from a reputable source, AND Google is itself on-the-line for it.
Or you could always order the android dev phone from google/brightstar.

Technically Brightstar. I would actually be a little more worried about a return or repair with Brightstar as compared to T-Mobile, as T-Mo probably has the better repair infrastructure in place, given its volume.
By the way, for purchasers outside the United States, you should also consider the possibility that your country's customs office may levy an additional import tariff, because Brightstar will mark the package as a billed/sold good. IIRC i've read some anecdotal reports of this being as high as a few hundred bucks. Check with your customs office.
If you are planning on using it in the US AND you want to have 3G access, might as well just sign up with T-Mo for a new plan. Subsidized phone prices are under $100 now, I believe. Or if you look around you can find ways to get a 1-year contract. Alternately, you can probably also find G1s being unloaded on eBay in the coming weeks as some owners upgrade to the myTouch.
Just some thoughts.
No, NOT technically brightstar. Technically GOOGLE, since YOUR contract is with google. They've just contracted it off to brightstar, but they are still on the line.

Your contract may be with Google (or it may not be, I have no idea since I have not bought an ADP1) but when it comes down to the actual nitty gritty of return and rma work, it seems to be all Brightstar:
What is your return policy and process?
Android Dev Phone 1 devices are NOT returnable unless the product is damaged or defective, "dead on arrival" or otherwise has a hardware issue not related to software you may have manipulated. hi friends, any other link... coz i cannot find purchase option in none of your links. what i need is a unlocked g1 and i live in us. One more question, is the GPS in G1 is a real gps or will it work only with google maps?
The link I gave you is the correct one. It has instructions on it, you should go back and read it.
You will not get a G1 (which is a nonsense name given for a LOCKED tmobile branded HTC DREAM), you will get an ADP1 HTC Dream with engineering bootloader (and therefore can't be OS-locked) and free of simlocks.
You are required to register for a google developer's account ($25), from which you will be given an order link for the ADP1.

Has anyone used htccode.com to unlock a U.S. Tmobile HD2?

I logged on to their site and chatted with the live person and asked if the U.S. Tmo HD2 was SIM unlockable. They said yes.
I proceeded to go through the motions. Bought unlock on Paypal. Ran local client. Got rejected saying US/France/Canada can't do the auto method, had to email them for code. Emailed. Heard back in about 20 mins. They said computer was not kicking back a unlock code.
This was about 6 hours ago. Still waiting.
Anyone have any luck with the U.S. HD2 and htccode.com? I'm not criticizing them just stating my experience so far.
If I get a code by tomorrow I'll be happy. Otherwise I would like a refund as Tmobile service in my area is not nearly as good as ATT. So I currently have ATT and was just trying the HD2. So I figured I'd unlock it and pop in my ATT SIM to see if I get better luck on reception. Otherwise I'm gonna have to try the Telstra model. Bigger investment.
And yes I know I won't get 3G on ATT. But as it is I'm not getting any reception whatsoever on Tmo.
Not much help to you, but I went with unlock-now.com. Been about 1.5 days and not a peep from them. I am in the same boat, trying to use it with ATT.
Wish luck for you by the morning. In my experience so far, htccode.com is really good and quick. I used them twice before and got my unlock code for only 10'
I am waiting for any good news from either of you...I want to use att sim

If your carrier in India supports the same bands the T-Mobile HD2 does then yes. People like me that are on ATT will be stuck on the 2g/Edge data connections because ATT and T-Mobile don't share the same 3g bands.
All a sim lock does is make only the carriers sim card work on the device.
And for the record still nothing from unlock-now. I wish they would at least reply to my support ticket, I understand it's a new device, but communication is key to a good business.
Let's hope htccode.com can figure this out...
can't you just call Tmobile and ask them for the unlock code? I've read somewhere they will give u the code after 2 or 3 days

I was about to ask the same question. T-Mobile is usually pretty good about giving out the unlock code. Especially if you bought the device unsubsidized.

I called them twice and was told they would give the code after a certain amount of time but only if you have had an active account as they need it to send you the code...I KNOW for a FACT that is not true but its what they told me both times. More likely they have the code right in front of them if not on the next screen, but its not the reps fault they just following orders.
So far:
freeyourhtc.com = Could not return a code...Refunded my money within 2 hours from purchase. $18.99
htc-unlocker.org = Emailed me code after 2 hours; it didn't work. BUT!!! They emailed me twice since saying they are working on it. After 24 hours they emailed me saying the code is not in any of the databases but they can request it from TMO but they want an additional $10.00 and it could take 3 days. $19.99
leo.unlock-now.com (unlock-now.com) = Not so much even as an email to say thank you for the payment. Still waiting, site says it could take up to 2 days...it has been almost a day and a half so far. They sent me a refund (Not quite 2 days yet) saying my code could not be found without me ever emailing them so I guess not so bad after all, also said try back in 15 days.$23.95
I also emailed 2 ebay unlock sellers they have not wrote back yet.
Man I miss Olipro and Cmonex ---They dont have an unlocker on their site yet!!!
BLAHHH
I am going through the same exact thing!
I used HTCCode.com and after I paid and d/l the client they say it wouldn't because my PayPal is from the U.S.
Sim-unlocker.com- is garbage. They haven't gotten back to me at all. They did how -ever happily take my money with out any issues
T-Mobile-They have been the most helpful, they said since I purchased my phone at a major retailer they would do it but I had to fax some info. I than said that was unacceptable and the kind lady asked if i had any friends on T-mobile. luckily I did and they said it would at max take 48hrs. I have been waiting since last night..

If I remember right there was a legal deal regarding the unlock code situation. You are the owner of the phone and have the right to the code. The carrier is required to give you the code. I have had good luck getting tmo USA to give me my codes on past phones. It sometimes takes a day or two because they had to get it from htc.

When I bought the phone and I made sure to request my phone would would be unlocked so I can compare with my AT&T service. I did not transfer my number and kept my AT&T account open.
When I called in to have it unlocked, one guy said they can't unlock it until after 14 days, which is the last day to return the phone in many states. I called again and a lady said I have to be through 2 billing periods or 40 days to get it unlocked. This is not written in my contract. I demanded something in writing and there is not a written policy or specific terms on this. But yet, I'm "contractually" binded to this "policy" even though it was never discussed to me nor was it in my contract. I didn't leave the store until I got a written documentation of the conversation around the 40 days.
Then I look at the Terms and Conditions online and line item #6 states customers have the right to have it unlocked.

You may buy a Device from us or someone else, but it must, as solely determined by T-Mobile,be compatible with, and not potentially harm, our network. Some T-Mobile features will be available only on Devices purchased from us. A T-Mobile Device is designed to be used only with T-Mobile service; however, you may be eligible to have your Device reprogrammed to work with another carrier but you must contact us to do so. Not all Devices are capable of being reprogrammed. At times we may change software, applications or programming remotely and without notice. From my interpretation, consumers have the right to waive arbitration and sue for breach of contract.

It's all in how you interpret "you may be eligible"...
WTF does that mean? Do they have the right to place eligibility requirements on it even? What are the U.S. laws regarding this?
How do you think the ones that popped up on ebay right away after release got their codes so fast?
I have tried 3 unlocking sites and they all said code cannot be found at this time.

Tried this, was told the account had to be active for 40 days which is bull because when I called before getting the phone they said you just had to have an account active.

They were unable to unlock my T-Mobile US HD2. Also looking for someone to unlock my new phone.
I've been "pressuring" htccode.com to come up with a unlock. If they can do it I told them I'd put a post on my site (HTCHD2.NET) which might drum up some sales. It's gets a decent amount of hits so hopefully this will motivate them.

[Q] Galaxy Tab 7.7 3G/4G Wifi Inernatinal Version

Okay guys,,,,,
Here's the deal I purchased this version of the 7.7
https://www.atgsm.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Phone-SamsungP6800Silver
I only paid $545 for it on ebay. Will tmoible's 3G work on this thing. I know that AT&T 3G works. Funny thing is I put my SIM Card into it and it worked great. Even made calls that were clear to hear via my bluetooth headset. I logged onto AT&T with my home computer and it showed as an unsuportted device so I chose the $15 non-smartphone unlimtted data feature and it worked for a day or 2. Now this morning I got a message .... a text message and an email stating I need to purchase a data plan for tablet or broadband device. I quickly put the sim card back into my old LG C550 flip phone which has media net and sports etc.. a non smart phone.
Question: Can they do this?
Question: How do they know its a tablet if these are internatinal versions.
Question: How can they opt to change your data feature
Question: Why do I need to purchase a data plan even when I didn't get a subsidized device. If I'd known that before I would just opt for an AT&T device.
hmmmmm.. .Makes me think about cancelling my service with AT&T when my contract ends in a few months....
Please help me out here.
1) Of course they can do this. It is their network - they make the rules.
2) Domestic or international - all devices identify themselves the same way. They know it is a P6800. They have obviously updated their tables of what is a tablet...
3) See 1)
4) See 1)
I recommend get a provider that serves your area, but has less rules. T-mobile is great, but pretty poor coverage. At least they let you use any compatible device and don't force you to buy a data plan with prepaid service. ATT and Verizon are similar to each other, but at least ATT does not cripple features.
Just seems odd.....
It seems odd.... My daughter has been using the Tmobile Samsung Vibrant (It has AT&T 3G bands in my area) for 2 years on AT&T with the unlimitted non smartphone rate of $15 per month and has never received any message about getting a data plan for smartphones. That is why I asked the question. Isn't the vibrant the same as the captivate with the differecne in the bands that work...... This just seems a bit strange.......... ARGGGG... Maybe I should have just looked for the wi-fi only model. .. too late for me becuase the seller charges a 15% restocking fee... besides I did get a good deal on it.
You point out one of the advantages in GSM phones. There are a variety of carriers that support GSM, and allow devices not their own on their network. AT&T is good about that. It gives you some choice. As far as I know, Verizon only accepts devices sold by them.
Just wondering
I was just wondering. It still seems odd. Think i will just cancel the service when the term expires in a few months. The first snafu was when they merged my accounts .. the rep told me we woudld keep the $30 unlimitted plan on my wife's iphone but when i merged the accounts the option was gone and they refused to get it back..... anyway..i am just venting... That is the power of the consumer.. if you dont' like it take my money somewhere else. only pitfall is in my area AT&T has good serivce.
Yes..you did get a super good deal..
I clicked on your link and saw 680 something price.

You list one from Australia and one from the UK. Did either you or your friend get hit with Customs charges? That can make a real difference in price.
The Hong Kong merchants seem to be very creative at avoiding Customs charges (they lie).
No customs
I got mine for Austriala.. .didn't have any customs fees. The one from hong kong had no customs fees. it was listed as a photo frame on the form. so there was no custom import fee..

i go through on all your link, the one you get yours ($545) and the one your friend get, and both of them are wifi only, yet you stated that you put in your sim card, and you get 3g on AT&T?
are you under prescription or something?
and there's the 3rd link about 7.0 plus aka P6200 which confused me even more, about what's the point of that link you gave? duh
Wow My apologies

I assure you I have the 3G international version. I will post a copy of my receipt. My apologies for the incorrect link. I will get it and post it shortly. I can't find the link however as one of the posters replied negri has it on sale. Maybe I just got lucky I don't know but it works and I stand by my posts. Do you need me to post videos or photos of me inserting the SIM card and getting the AT&T 3G and of me making a phone call. I can do that. The intention of my initial post was not to post a deal....it was simply a few questions I had about the device and AT&T practices. There are many other sources where you can obtain price cuts and deals just search with GOOGLE. On anohter note.....AMAZON has a few sellers who sell the item. There are 4 or 5 online and or local stores located in New York City also. I hope this helps. If I come across a good deal froma reputatble seller I will post it.
nah, no need. since you already admit that it was wrong link you posted
I just had a glimpse of hope of getting tab 7.7 for quite cheap like you did, but I did need 3g, not wifi only ^^
I dont live in NYC so local store is out of question for me
They did release it in my country but its the 32gb version and pretty expensive I'd say (around $820)
Whilst i already have 32gb micro sd so I think 16gb version is enough

I am curious...
Your first post, you said you paid 545 for thr 3G version....
but incorrectly inserted the wrong links..
Then a few post later.. you said yes indeed you got the 3g version for 545 again... and posted another link or 2...
Both these links showed Wi-Fi versions only..
Im curious as to a correct link to your 545 dollar 3g version...
thanks for making this happen.....
Id like to recommend your seller to another person...
IF you can supply a link to the 3g version at $545...
thanks.... Jim
I got lucky

I posted the link however as stated it was an incorrect link. I think I may have just got lucky and the seller sent me a 3G version or maybe the seller had the wrong decription either way... I am glad I got a deal. I don't know what else to tell you. You could possilby wait a few months and anticipate the price dropping due to all the new devices slated to hit the scene. As many of us know playing the waiting game for prices or next generation hardware is futile. I'd say..... buy the best you can get for the price you can pay and use the device the way you want. I find it is often pointless to wish for the stars knowing you don't want to part with your hard earned cash. So its either pay up or just play the waiting game. I don't mean to sound sarcastic but I have been getting private messages from people blasting me about the link I posted and how I need to hurry up and post the correct link. I posted the link that I used to get the device..... "Maybe the seller botched up and sent me the wrong item""" Good for me I guess ............ In any event I'd say stick with what you can afford and if not just don't buy anything .........
You can try this one.. very good
Yes its $645 but you do get it overnight from overseas to USA>

Costless way to unlock.

I ordered an AT&T DVP.
Even though I will be using straight talk, so being locked to AT&T doesnt matter, Is there a good free way to unlock my DVP?
I think I heard someone mention it.
EDIT: This is now a guide
Just email "[email protected]" With your IMEI and Dell Service code.
They usually reply back around 10AM EST (or at least thats what I experienced, two different messages)
They replied back with a table looking entry, and the unlock code was contained within.
I popped a SPRINT sim card into my AT&T DVP, and put in the code, my phones now unlocked.
Credit to Edderspcs for the email address
I would be interested in this too, although.. are you sure you need to unlock to use an AT&T phone with Straight Talk? I recently found out you don't need to unlock to use a T-Mobile locked phone on Simple Mobile.
I did notice there are unlock codes available from ebay sellers as low as $10 each. If that's the most you have to pay, that's not so bad.
I had two of these. All I did was email the service tag and IMEI to Dell at the address below and they sent me the unlock codes. By the way, I emailed from two different addresses just in case they had some "one per person rule". Took about 24 hours...

Worked for me for three DVPs. For safe measures, I mentioned I really need it unlocked since I have business overseas. And I love Dell. Ok maybe "love" is too strong a word...

Well thats usually the best way to get it unlocked, say you need to travel, but im sure since the venue pro's aren't even in production/being officially sold anymore that dell shouldn't have a problem with it.
My phone is scheduled to arrive today or tomorrow, cant wait.
Thanks for this. Dell got back to me with the code less than 12 hours after sending the email.
So my replacement took a little longer than expected.
But I finally got it, just sent my info off to the email, guess we'll see about the unlocking soon.
Worked !
