Why is the UK version so Expensive??? - Nexus S General

Carphone Warehouse are a bloody rip-off
If it's available in the US for $529, then why do we have to pay £549 (~$860) for it?
That's not the case for other phones since their prices are usually fair.
Will there be any other place to buy it in the future? I really hope they would put back the webstore so i could just order it from the US and deliver it here like I did with the N1.

Damn, that sucks! Maybe it was just a mistake? You could always try ebay though.

£550 for this phone is a joke. I though Apple is premium not Samsung/Google. Now we have a price considerably over iPhone 4 or anything on the market. No thanks, Google.

I agree, I was shocked when I saw the UK pricing.
I guess I'm lucky I'm off to San Francisco today and will pick one up from Best Buy on launch.

cheap HD

Hello guys Im new to this Touch HD forum and I want one BAD...I found one Cheap from a company in China & I would like to know has anybody else bought one from China? Its unlocked and they said it will work with T-Mobile.
The best price I have heard on Touch HD is around $720 + Shipping to the US from resellers in UK. Nothing from China... if I were you, I will not throw away my money from a seller in a country where it is not released yet, and has a cheaper price.
Again, just my thought... Its your money and your deal.
I live in China. Tell me the name of the company and give a link and I'll check it out. My first impression though is no way. THe touch hd is not officially released here yet so the only way to legally get them is to have them shipped from Hong Kong and they are expensive ($800 US), so I doubt that some company in China would be getting them from abroad and then shipping them to you cheaper than someone like handtec who is getting them directly from HTC in Europe....
1. Like everything in life, if it's too good to be true, it usually is. If this chinese company is indeed reputable, then go ahead. But be warned with the risks involved in importing goods, you have to be prepared to assume all risks and liabilities (warranty, shipping problems, fraud, etc). From my view as of Dec 8, 2008, HTC Touch HD is still pre-order only in many shops and sells for about $800 to $900 due to high demand.
2. Unlocked GSM phones will work with any GSM carriers, that's the nature of being 'unlocked'. However, the downside is that they're usually not subsidized by the GSM carrier and thus more expensive. A trade off between flexibility and cost. For me, the flexibility of being able to use any GSM card when I travel abroad outweighs the cost.

define cheap? before shipping, mine was approximately $670.00 US from Clove Technology. even at today's exchange rate (around 1.50 dollars for each GBP), $700 from a reputable reseller is the best price you'll get. i've seen US retailers selling for as much as $840 and that doesn't include shipping!
Ok update ...Ive now Got a contact in the USA that I can get the phones from Cheap, and when I say cheap I mean under 400.00 shipped to your door.Im registered to get them wholesale...this is where Ebayers probably get them from to re-sell for a big profit .Im gonna be joining you guys soon I hope

selling your nexus one.

I'm thinking of selling my nexus one soon. Just want to know if any of you or anyone that you know of has sold their n1 and for how much. Ebays prices for new ones are in the $600's and used ones I haevent seen below $500. Just not too sure if people are crazy about those prices since u can buy direct from google for the same.
People are idiots frankly, I don't understand it either.
Google doesn't ship worldwide. So if you don't live in the US or UK you are SOL. Hence inflated prices on the bay.

There's even someone bidding (currently £280 odd) on a 'Nexus One' being sold by a new eBay account (no feedback) from China...
Lunacy...
I've seen used ones selling for more than buying new but like someone said it's because some countries can't order direct from Google.
Which is why I got my American friend to buy it for me since I live in Canada...

Yep, and given that for $741 USD you can get it in Switzerland/Germany, there's no way I'm forking out over $800 for it.
Seems that in the netherlands they list it for €590 (us$815)
I always hate it when a device is more expensive in specific regions
mobicity and smoothmobiles.com.au both have them now.
mobicity- $899
smoothmobiles- $895
im not sure whether to get one or not, its a extremly hefty price. i was planning on getting a normal galaxy S again, ( other died, no warranty cause i bought it 2nd hand and the owner is not here no more ) so i was going to get a brand new one
not sure what to do now.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to buy one me thinks - I'm addicted to my SGS and an upgrade will be awesome
Techrific has it for $889

Big bump.
So the Australian release will be around June, you guys going to get it now or what?
If its on the Optus $59 I will, if its on the $79 its too much imo, I'd rather get the Arc
I'm selling my iPhone 4 and will just buy it outright from uk, Australia is just such a ripp off.
I'm half way through my contract with optus so, I sell my iPhone for $700 and the gs2 was $724 so for $24 dollars I have upgraded. to top it of when my contract runs out I'll get the sgs3 lol yayyyyyy
Yeah replacing my Atrix with my SG2 which will hopefully be here by Friday. Ordered from Handtec as i didn't wanna get ripped off by Aus online resellers lol
Hey guys, who's getting their SGSII from where?
How much did/will it cost you (in AU$)
Is it NextG?
Which processor?
NFC?
Anyone here ordered a UK versrion of the sgs2? I take it ill have to get an adapter for the charger considering the sockets are different?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I bought from Mobicity, $900 (yay for disposable income). It says NextG compatible, no NFC and with the Samsung CPU (not NVIDIA Tegra 2)
hmmm.... I might get one from expansys.... will probably wait until next week and scope out a few other places as well.
I was upset that it won't have NFC because I believe NFC will become common use in everyday life sometime soon.... but after a bit of research I think NFC will be more commonly built into sim cards instead of phones themselves, so it's not so much an issue for me now. Also it's probably not going to hit mainstream until after the London Olympics by which time I'll have a new phone anyway.
handtec, price was AUD $700, i don't care about NFC, it is gonna be switched off constantly anyways, don't think it will get popular soon
Where to buy
Hey guys,
I've been doing some research on where to buy, I'm listing them in cost order, cheapest first. If I've missed out on a site, let me know.
If there is any reason why you wouldn't buy from the cheapest, please let me know.
I've never bought a phone online before and I'm kinda anxious about it.
I've gone as far in the checkout as I can, and prices include shipping to Melbourne, the cheapest option (no more than 7 working days).
Not VAT. Is that correct?
Currency conversions using Google on 4/05.
Unlocked Mobiles £435 $663
Handtec £456 $695
Clove £464 $707
Expansys $720
Mobiciti$914
Smooth Mobiles $924
So the cheapest is from Unlocked Mobiles, and the cheapest Australian store is Expansys.
Which store are you going to buy from, and why?
!!!!!!! I had it all nicely formatted, and the name of each site was a direct link to that website's listing for the SGSII.
But I can't post links.
Spent ages typing it up too...
my DHL online tracking still says Departed Facility in LONDON-HEATHROW - UK, same as 30 hrs ago... hm..... hope i can get it tomorrow

A whopping $850+ for International version in Canada!!

Is it me or are people paying over $850 for the international version of the S3?!?!
That's crazy, the 32GB is $930+ ...
I was hoping the ISPs would carry so I would only have to pay around $200 with contract, and now I'm never going to get one :'(
Whatta hell Bell Canada!

I ordered mine from Handtec for $715 all in, not including import taxes. Still really expensive, but I paid the same for the SII on release.
Mine will run me approximately $760 after taxes and fees imported from clove.co.uk

Hola
You must realize that for some (myself included) it is just easier to buy off someone/business that will have it locally than to worry about shipment issues, delays, taxes etc.
As far as I can see, the average price for the international version 16GB is between CAN$720 and $750, add shipping and ON/BC HST on top and you're looking at way over $800. Plus most of these folks on kijiji and craigslist that are selling this, they do it for small profit.
I am patiently waiting for the blue colored one and I go through a great phone importer from BC, i.e. MobileDNA. Those guys are great with the numerous transactions that I have done with them over the years.

Yeah but I wonder what the import/duty fee's will cost? I bought the Nexus One and it cost me about 120$ on a 550$, so I'm assuming if you buy it for $720, you'll end up paying another 200$ for fees!!!

That's where I got my Galaxy Note (they served me well). What kind of price did you get from them? I emailed them just a moment ago.
ya, ive ordered my last couple phones from handtec (HD2, S2, S3) and they've all come up to around the same price of $700 after shipping.
But since i live in Ontario, the tax gets me hard and is usually around $100 once the package comes from FedEX - making it a total of $800
ya its steep, but im such a sucker for new phones so ya.
You're looking at ~$800 if you live in Ontario - other places in Canada will have cheaper tax so you'll pay a bit less
Hola
I have bought from Handtec myself. My greatest concerns were always about getting warranty on these high-end devices. As you would know IF something was wrong with the phone, shipping it back to the UK was required, this in itself was stress. I saw a few posts here when the S2 was originally launched that some folks had to ship it back, and then wait like a few weeks before getting back a replacement. I wanted to avoid this potential issue and hence looked for a Canadian distributor to handle this stuff.
Interestingly the only reputable company I found was way out west in BC... hence I now buy all my latest phones through them.
Killing me to know that I have to wait on the blue colored version until next week or so.

Priv Price Revealed (It's not good news)

Carphone Warehouse are now taking pre-orders for the Blackberry Priv,
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/phones/blackberry-priv
The bad news? £580 sim-free. (That's the equivalent of about $900 US)
If you ask me, Blackberry are pricing themselves out of the market. At minimum it's £100 overpriced in order to be competitive, especially when compared to something like the Nexus 6P. The maximum price for this should have been £450, and even then it would be a major uphill struggle to shift 5 million units.
I was so excited for this phone, but at that price I think my money would be better spent on a 6P.
I was waiting for this phone as the only option for Android, HW keyboard and decent specs.... but at this price I don't think it makes much sense. Heck even the corporate procurement officers will scratch their heads with such a price, even if the security is top notch. Common BB, get serious!
Settle down, guys. That's the European price and most likely includes VAT. Electronics are also more expensive in Europe. It'll most likely be $599 or $649 here.
MSRP $949 in Canada.

Expensive but I'm still getting one!
I need my physical keyboard back
I would think that depreciation value of this phone would be quite high due to BlackBerry current circumstances and market share. However I could be wrong, it could hold it's value because of being a niche product. If it's a hit then I could see them holding the same price for at least a year or more but if it's not then it might see the Amazon Fire phone slash and burn price method.
mobilesyrup article puts pricing at $799 CAN which puts a US price at more like $599
Apparently it was momentarily priced for $749 USD.
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/10/21/blackberry-priv-pre-orders-open-in-us-for-749-ship-november-16/
I'm wondering how much of that is actually BlackBerry and how much is CarphoneWarehouse. It wouldn't be the first time a device has been unpopular simply because of how and where it was marketed.
Preorder pricing has always been a little "stab in the dark" as far as I'm concerned, the only thing we can really do is wait. I'm really hoping the competition between retailers drives the price to a slightly saner number but I'm not holding my breath.
The Priv looks like an amazing device but £580 is a little rich for my blood.
I think it will probably similar priced as the galaxy S6+, perhaps slightly more.
This is first android edition from BlackBerry
after a while
the price will reduce like other phones

$699 US. http://us.blackberry.com/smartphones/blackberry-priv/buy.html
I'll be getting one. My caveat is I'm on T-Mo USA and need to wait for the wifi-calling compatible version.
I thought I read somewhere that it was going to be about $650-700 in the US.
EDIT: http://www.engadget.com/2015/10/23/blackberry-priv-pre-order-price/
899 CAD in Canada, which is a bit high for my taste. Not BlackBerry's fault though, would've been 799 where I would've bought it.
Although Rogers is doing 399/2yr or 799 outright.

Buying outright from Rogers and unlocking is cheaper in any case.
blackberry always overprices its devices, mostly people buy it to use it as a STATUS SYMBOL
Not necessarily. Passport was $699 at launch, still the same price for full off contract at Rogers, and you have to pay to unlock it. Bell and Telus both selling it for $750.
Canada works a bit backwards in this regard.
I was gonna get it until the price was revealed. I decided to go with the G4 and im glad i made the decision
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
I can't even remember the last time BB was a status symbol, at least in the US or Europe, however this is the first 'unique' Android phone in years, so you never know. I'm going to resist buying it as long as possible b/c the price will definitely drop on contract, but I don't know how long I'll be able to wait.
