[Q] gingerbread keyboard on mt4g? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

anyone try installing the gingerbread keyboard on the mt4g? i just tried and i can't seem to do it...
i installed the zip but i can't choose the gingerbread keyboard. any thoughts?

I installed it (via clockwork) and it will open but everytime I press a key I get a FC for 'android.process.inputmethod.latin' I only have English selected too.
Very strange, hopefully someone sorts this out.
In the mean time, anyone know the terminal or adb commands to uninstall this kb?

I flashed it via clockwork recovery, and don't even see the Gingerbread keyboard listed as an input method. (Same issue as OP) - FWIW I'm running Iced Glacier v1.1.1, phone is rooted with S-OFF.

I'm also on iced glacier, could be the keyboard file you're using. Try the file from a different source..

just out of curiosity, which source did you use?

I used this one from androinica

And it worked?

I had problems at first too - was installing from recovery but couldn't select it after I rebooted.
Figured out that from recovery mode you need to mount /system before installing the zip from sdcard. Mount then install and it should install and be there when you reboot
UPDATE: I'm getting the same FC problems a previous user was having whenever i hit a key on the new keyboard

Wait, what? I tried installing simply with root explorer. There is one file that goes to system/app and another to system/lib. Following a reboot, there is no input option besides the three default inputs.

I tried installing this keyboard a about an hour ago and the following happened: The first install appeared to go well and I could not find the keyboard listed so I tried installing the updated V2(fabulouso ginerbread v2. zip)of this zip and and this time it soft bricked my phone. Luckily I was able to boot into clockworkmode recovery and restore. I am on V5 and have s=off but no other customizations. I have no idea why this happened. Any one have any thoughts on this?

Can you get Evo 4g keyboard on Desire?

Does anyone know if you can install the Evo stock keyboard onto the desire. Not only does it have arrows but also has voice to text icon on it. Would save me time from flipping between two different keyboards.

Well. doesn't Htc_ime_mod do everything you want it to. (I know there are no arrows. But voice to text and swipe to change keyboard.)
I tried but got stuck while deodexing it... Maybe some other time. Still Android n00b although hold few degrees in cs.
Don't have that keyboard. I'll look for it. Thanks

Here it is, deodexed and signed. I tried to install it via adb but failed bacause it says it is aleady present (obviously...). Perhaps it can be pushed via recovery? I tried to look into the matter but because of app2sd the situation of my phone appears to be rather chaotic and i didn't want to mess up...another way (drastic) could be to repack a rom with it...any suggestions?

[Q] Stuck in a limbo between being rooted / unrooted, not sure where to turn

Essentially the situation is that about a week ago I rooted my new glacier phone using the Terminal Emulator method outlined in this post .
Everything worked fine, my phone was rooted and worked perfectly.
A few days ago I decided that i needed to clean up my phone because my SD card was full. I went about deleting files and folders which I thought were simply images taken from my camera and audio / video files. Obviously I made a mistake and deleted something I shouldn't have because immediately following the "clean up" I typed su into my Android terminal and was greeted with the response:
"link_image[1995]: failed to link su CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE"
Since then I've tried several things to get my root privileges back, including:
Factory Resetting the Phone
Rerunning the same procedure I used to gain root in the first place
I tried and failed to simply flash a new ROM to the phone, whenever I go into recovery and apply a .zip I get the error: "Can't open /sdcard/zipfile.zip (bad) Installation Aborted"
The Super user app does tell me that there is an update that it needs to apply, I have a gut feeling that it's trying to fix the error that I made in deleting whatever file I deleted. But when I try to apply the update the Super user app tells me to apply the update in recovery mode. When i go into recovery mode to apply the zip I get the same errors reported above.
My s=off currently so I can't get stock OTA updates and my "su" privileges are not working so I'm stuck in a bit of a limbo. Not sure where to turn at this point and would greatly appreciate any and all advice from the Android Dev Community.
Cheers!
How about restoring your original backup via clockwork? It only backs up the phones flash, not the sd card though.
Not sure what superuser would need from the sd card.

Sounds like u should have just reinstalled superuser. If u still have s off, download maybe iced glacier Rom and flash it thru Rom manager. Usually comes pre everything
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I'll certainly try your advice but I'm 90% sure that I'm gonna run into the problem that even though my phone is s=off, for all intensive purposes it isn't rooted because I can't run any programs that require su permissions.

cant flash clockwork recovery 3 in terminal emulator or rom manager

cant flash clockwork recovery in terminal emulator or rom manager...im trying to get cyanogen mod 7 but nothing I do is working. Im not a noob and I know how how to use terminal em with the flash_image and all of that. I keep getting file not found every time I type in flash_image recovery /sdcard/"name of recovery".img. Ive tried and read everything. I have the recovery.img file in the root of my sd card. I cant even get the latest 2.5.1.4 from rom manager or any recovery for that matter..what gives?

if you downloaded the clockworkmod3 make sure to rename it something simplier because you will have to type that in terminal emulator. after i downloaded it i renamed it to cwm3 = clockworkmod3 duh pretty obvious lol..but once you do that put that in the root of your sd. and go to terminal emulator. actually better walkthrough on this is going on youtube and search mackster248 he actually shows you how to do it. i used his video to do it. and he puts up links for you to download certain things like the clockworkmod3 so..check him out
Ive already tried the rename thing. Nothings working at all. And ive already watched all of macksters vids...he's the reason why im rooted and flashed in the first place.

i think i kno what the problem is. what rom are you running as we speak. because before i flashed cm7 i was on ice glacier my 1st rom i ever flashed. and i couldnt get the clockworkmod3 so i decided to just run cm6 and that went fine then i flashed cm7 right after i flash cm6. I THINK u might have to have cm6 before u go to cm7 im not sure on that. thats just what i did.
I have glacier. I actually thought about flashing cm6 and going that route but wasnt sure if that would make a difference. Ill try that and get back to you. Thanks for the quick responses guys.

You need to have flash_image in /system/bin/
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11228290/flash_image
adb push or use root explorer.

Go to this link and follow the instructions. It doesnt matter what rom you are on now. Just follow the instructions. http://goo.gl/K0xTy
Dude...that was too easy! Thanks so much. I never thought installing the zip file through recovery would work since everyone was saying you have to do it through term em. My stress level just went way down!

Rooted MyTouch 4G CM7 issue.

I have recently rooted and installed CM7 RC1 on my MyTouch 4G everything seemed to be going well for the first about 30 mins i got gapps installed (manually btw) but suddenly after the phone started to install apps from the android marketplace i can no longer long press on the home screen nor can i move widgets i can still feel the haptic feedback but no response.
Sounds like a bad install, reinstall clear all user data, cache, dalvik-cache and fix permissions before booting back up.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Thanks ill try that right now and come back with any other issues. That presist after re-install.
Also wanted to state that for installing Gapps i had to do it the Manual way if that matters or if anybody is having trouble installing them.

Manual as in flashing the zip file, we all had to do that.

No i mean instead of having RomManager do it i did it manually in recovery.
Yeah, that's what I meant. I never do anything important like that in rom manager, always boot into recovery.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
i had that same problem and it was a simple fix on my part. i actually had accidently hit lock desktop under the more menu on the desktop screen. u can long press and nothing happens or cant move widgets while the desktop is locked. try seeing under the desktop menu if it is locked if so unlock it and that should work. hope this helps some

[Q] Recovery Mode Error Screen

Hello,
I just got a used MyTouch 4G which seems to work flawlessly with stock 2.2.1 and 2.3.4. I'm trying to root and flash it with a custom rom.
I've reverted back to 2.2.1 stock, visionary, done s=off, and have root access. I install CWM 5.0.2(?) but when I try and go into recovery mode either through ROM Manager or the choose recovery from the ROM Manager menu but then when I try to do something I get a black screen with the Hat and circle arrow and it just sits there.
I didn't have this problem with my Nook, am I missing something?
Thanks,
Lich

Hit the power button when you see the hat wearing arrow. The menu is hidden, power makes it visible. Use the trackpad click to make selections, not power. Volume rocker and trackpad can be used to move the highlight, but power shows/hides the menu.

Thanks guys!
I completely noobed it somehow, and thought it only vol. power would work. I accidentally hit the trackpad and was like "AHH! got it!"
All working now just trying to decide on the ROM!
Just a follow up question. Is there a reason why many of the ROMs seem to have been abandon? Are the chefs working on ICS or moved on to another phone?
