[Q] Unlocked Omnia 7 ATT data plan question - Omnia 7 General

I just received an unlocked Omnia 7 that I purchased this morning and love it. I've added data usage to my ATT plan. I chose the $15 data plan having heard that some people are able to get away using the $15 plan on their unlocked phone. However, it's been around 8 hours since I activated data to my ATT account online and my phone still isn't receiving any data outside of wi-fi.
My question is if I need to get the $30 plan for it to work, or if I can at least see whether I can get away with the $15, and if so, do I just have to wait a bit longer for the data usage to be enabled?

[Q] Buying & Unlocking

I really want the Vibrant but I don't want to get the $30 required data plan as I'm almost always connected to Wifi wherever I am. Does unlocking the phone mean that I don't need the data plan and I can stay on T-Mobile? I was wondering that if I buy the Vibrant(not from T-mobile) as an upgrade(I'm on a family plan) but without the data plan will I be able to unlock it. Or should I buy the Vibrant from eBay and then call T-Mobile for the unlock code. Also, when calling for the unlock code, would I just call T-Mobile and tell them I want the code?
Dude if you have T-Mobile you can use the phone without the data plan. Unless your on another carrier you will need it. An unlock code does nothing but allow other carriers to use the phone that's locked to t-mobile or ATT

I had the HD2 before and when I bought it from Costco Wireless without data they added the $30 data plan automatically. How can I get the Vibrant w/ out the data?
Buy the phone full price w/out contract. That is your best bet IMO. They may still push you to get the data plan but if you contact Cust Loyality you might be able to get around it.
Another option would be to buy the phone w/ a new Even more plus plan that doesn't require a contract then cancel the plan an then take your SIM outta your current phone on your other line and put it into the Vibrant.
Still not sure if TMo will force you to have some kinda data plan based on what the IMEI is of the phone. I know other carriers have done this, but not sure on what TMo's policy is.
Thanks for the advice. I'm probably gonna end up going with the first option.
I bought mine w/o contract.
Just tell them you're buying just the phone, and you don't want a plan/SIM.
FYI: the Vibrant does not work on Web2Go or T-Zones plans.(trust me, I had one b4)
You can buy the phone on ebay or craigslist or get it at full price.... just tell them to block all data... just realize that you will no longer have picture messages or mms.. but you will keep text messaging.. .make sure they block it because if not and you accidently get on the mobile web you will pay big bucks

Leaving AT&T (theoretical question)

I want to leave AT&T for T-Mobile, i currently have an ATT nexus one, just bought a tmo n1, and i'm thinking of ways of getting out of my contract without paying the etf. as of now i have one theory and i want to run it by you guys, see if anyone has any thought....
1) call at&t and cancel my data plan. i currently have unlimited data, and i was just going to tell them i no longer have my nexus one and i want to end my data plan.
2) set up my tmo n1 (before i pop in my sim card) and turn of all data connectivity. after i set everything up id pop in my sim. now when i changed my moms phone she got an automatic text message saying that her phone requires a change in the data plan, so this is where the next few steps are important
3)section 7 of the CTIA Consumer Code for Wireless Service mandates that any changes to my contract are "materially adverse" allow me to get out of contract within 14 days, so if i get said text from at&t (see step 2) i should be able to walk out. right?
now for att's whole mandating a data plan they are mandated for.... "Compatible data-enabled wireless device required." as said in the wireless customer agreement under "What Data And Messaging Services Does AT&T Offer?"
based on this factor i have three arguments, 1) this device isn't compatible with at&t's 3g network, 2) i haven't used any data (see step 2 above), and 3) how can my device be considered a compatible data enabled devices when your own technical support team offers no support? (true story, i've had to call them in the past for help with apn settings)
so what do you guys think? any good?
1) don't think they will let you drop the data plan as you got the phone subsidized from them with a 2 year data contract.
2) you need to enter a valid tmo APN
3) don't understand
All the best switching...I was lucky to be out of contract when i did...and had a tmo n1
It doesn't matter if the phone only uses edge, ATT still requires the mandatory data plan. So that argument will be worthless.
I'm not sure you really have any way out without paying the fee.
If the network is unusable/bad, you could perhaps argue that.
Or just run a torrent on the unlimited data so they kick you off.
i might torrent, and no, i never subsidized a phone. i was just locked into contract
We could of traded nexus ones! I have a tmo one and I want an att

[Q] Will the N4 be detected on AT&T network?

Hey guys I know its probably too early to know for sure and will need to wait until release, but I was wondering if anyone knows if the N4 will be detected on AT&T's network as a smartphone? I am currently using a sg2 i9100 on AT&T's network having them think it is a dumb phone so I can get their $10 per month unlimited data plan.
My hunch is that it will eventually be detected if it isn't at start, since that is what happened with my N1 a few months after launch but this phone looks so good for the price might have to bite the bullet on a limited data plan.
Not sure about the detection, but you might want to consider Straight Talk. Same service from AT&T for way less money if you don't need LTE. I use wifi 99% of time, so as soon as my AT&T contract expires I will be switching.

Yes it is detectable and they will automatically add the 3GB $30/mo data plan I got the Nexus4 4 days after 1st pre-order and it was fine on the 10/data plan make a long story short thru numerous swaps n trades I have it again via a buddy (same one) and the network now detects the Nex4 as a smartphone within a few hours. I have noticed that really the only phones that have not been detectable are international factory unlocked Samsungs.

No data plan needed on AT&T.

With AT&T, the nexus 4 unlocked will not require a data plan because AT&T does not have that phone imei number in their system or database. I used an unlocked nexus s before with no data, so this will be the same. Even if you want data it'll be only $15 unlimited HSPA+ or $20 unlimited data and text since it'll be considered a standard phone.
I'm on AT&T's HTC One X without data plan. You would just call them with a dumb phone saying you sold your smartphone, and they will take off the data plan for ya. Once they take it off, you would insert the sim back in to your phone.

But if they ever did add them they could detect the IMEI then they would change your plan. I do see on their website it is technically possible to do this and comes out to 70 a month at the cheapest, but is it really DC-HSPA+ or some downgraded version of it?

They do reactivate your data plan but from what I seen its pretty rare. I have some friends running ATT without data plan and they haven't activated a data plan for them yet.

no no i was wondering is it possible to use the 15 dollar unlimited feature phone data option? If i was to activate it ona feature phone first then put it in my sim. When do you think they would add the smartphone one. But I will test the tmobile prepaid sim i got in a tester phone I have first before in it because Im on sprint need to test my network options lol.
Why not use $45 Straight Talk unlimited talk/text/data (which uses AT&T) and not fuss with AT&T at all?

Nexus 7 HSPA+ compatible w/ Pay by the Day $3 plan?

Hello,
I'm planning on purchasing the Nexus 7 w/ HSPA+ once it's available. As as far pre-paid plans go, it would seem T-Mobile has the best 4G plans available. I know T-Mobile has specific pre-paid tablet plans available, but the amount of data per dollar seems less then what I could get with their "Pay By The Day" $3/day plan.. Now obviously that plan is setup with phones in mind as it includes Talk + Text, but I don't plan on using the cell radio everyday on the tablet because on most days I'm covered by Wifi.
I don't like their tablet broadband plans because the data is offered in 7 day blocks and I'd rather pay a premium price for unlimited data for the day vs paying 5x the cost for a measly 300MB of data.
I'm just curious, Is there any reason why this plan wouldn't work w/ a tablet?
Thanks in advance,
- Mitalis
Since this is not a T-mobile device you may get away with a SIM set up with a phone plan. But it's popularity may induce t-mobile to block it as they have done recently blocking Nexus Phones to be used with broadband plans. It's a wait and see really.
On the other hand, I'm my self planning to use my planned Nexus 7 3G with a combination of ATT Broadband plan, Tmobile broadband and freedom pop.
I will have to see....with broadband plans only you get more data for your money...the bad side is the period limit.
Tip: Tmobile has a special 60 days vs 30 days if you buy your broadband card from Walmart only on the $35 3.5gb and 50 5gb plans. After that you can renew them online without having to go thru Walmart.
The other option I will look into...(which negate the benefit of 3G Nexus) is the Internet on the go plans which use Sprint...but recent changes make them very competitive in a sense you pay like 1.13 cents per MB.....and the gb you buy will never expire....The cons are you have to buy a $80 hotspot device, carry it around and you only get EVDO Rev A...thru sprint...Not as fast as tmobile.

Thats about $80 a month (assuming you go a few days without using the 3G Coverage)
You are going to realize after getting your Nexus 7 it will be used more often than you think... I bought mine, thinking it would be something to keep around the house, watch movies, listen to music on occasion, and take it on road trips. But it turned out I hardly put it down, I use it more than my cell phone. So I will certainly be getting the 3G model as soon as google makes it available for order.
The T-mobile "Classic – Overage-Free Plus" has a 2gb 4G limit, but it doesn't cut you off or charge you more when you use of the 2gb, it just drops you to 3G (maybe 2G) speeds until the next month. So you have Unlimited Data, just not always a High(er) speeds. Its gonna cost you 40$/mo but atleast it doesnt charge you more or cut you off completely like most other Wireless Carriers do. (http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/mobile-broadband-plans.aspx)
I ordered a StraightTalk (US Based) SIM Card, and will see how well it works, and how service is in my small town.
But if that does not work, I have T-mobiles Completely Unlimited Service Plan (Unlimited Talk/Text/Data) for $89. I can just add a new line (to get a another SIM Card) for $10 more a month, and share the Data with the Nexus 7 3G

You dont want to do that sprint EVDO is slower than a snail... Its unlimited but your battery on the device will run out before you can get anything real accomplished.

Any updates from anyone on this.... Curious if you can use the Nexus 7 3g on a $3 daily plan... I just want to use it when I travel in the states...
It won't work. Tmo will block the tablet. Use a prepaid broadband plan instead, or tether to a phone.
