Nexus one does NOT support Google Maps 5 100% - Nexus One General

http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/06/google-maps-for-mobile-5-unveiled-adds-dynamic-map-drawing-and/

Gotta love the glitches that we paid for!!

Blame HTC. But they make phones made if steel and uranium and not plastic so it all evens out.

That's stupid! I thought Google would have been more "picky" in regards to the hardware the "Development" phones would have...guess not!
Well, I don't really care about the full multitouch, as long as i can somehow get maps 5 on my phone later on. Maybe add a onscreen gesture control (like a d-pad)

Oh they can finally make use of the N1 trackpad for the rotation control.

The G2 is on the list, so by extension I don't see why the Desire Z wouldn't support it 100% as well. They're basically the same platform after all.

If its just multi touch that the N1 is not 100% compatible with, thats fine, I can live with that. 99% compatible

I don't understand this new version of Google maps.

It saves data on your most recent routes and often travelled routes I believe. This seems like it's a worthy update but I would appreciate it if I could just stick all of north america on my SD card like nokia's ovi maps. This is definitely better than no caching, provided the maps don't take up a whole lot of internal memory.

Thanks for the reply OJ

For me, the problem is the n1 gpu.... the only thing this phone misses...
I mean there's a lot f 3d in there.... Idk if n1 can handle it

It'll work for the N1. Trust me.
By hook or by crook.
XDA ftw!

Theres an app for the iphone where you can choose an area and download it to the phone.
Thats what we need.
So the only data you need to download "on the road" for navigation is the route and traffic information.
Of course it also needs some sort of update feature for the offline data, in case something changed.

N1 has GPU which is plenty fast. In fact, microsoft currently bets it's whole WP7 platform on it.
And Gingerbread Platform Highlights say, that:
Updated video drivers — The platform uses updated third-party video drivers that improve the efficiency of OpenGL ES operations, for faster overall 3D graphics performance.

That seems stupid not to at least go with the one in the Hummingbird CPU instead of Snapdragon. . . it's 4 times faster.

Ocarina "Flute" on HD2 ?

I will buy this phone when an Ocarina App is avialable with multi tuch.

Either someone start making some apps Now or create a program that can run all the iphone apps on HD2. That way everyone will be happy
Please... Can someone create an app like Ocarina.

Thank you so much in advance.
It's not so easy. Leo does not have real multi touch. WM does not support any API for that. Leo only has single touch with pinch zoom, and that's it.
Nothing like spending $800-900 for a phone just to play with a crappy flute app.

Leo DOES have multi-touch.
It's nothing to do with the phone. As you state yourself "WM does not support any API for that." That is correct. Once that issue is resolved, there will be true multi-touch apps.
Like you, I'm waiting for this kind of applications for HD2, too. Can't wait to load someting similar (or exactly the same!) to iPhone's Bebot Robot Synth. Check out Jordan Rudess' videos at Youtube (keyboard player of Dream Theater).

It is different then G-sensor or compass .. because those are used in HTC applications and you can use HTC's DLL to work with that. No HTC application supports real multitouch at the moment. Until some does, I'm rather skeptical about such API.

If the hardware can do it, then the software can do it. It simply means that no-one has developed something yet.
Since the HD2 is the hardware, to state that the HD2 is not true multi-touch is incorrect. That's all I'm saying.
I don't see what this debate about not having a multitouch api and needing to use HTC DLLs is about. The ability to build multitouch applications for Leo came quite a while ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591698
Two-fingered drawing... means that the device can plot two points at once and not just the distance between them. And there's the demo source in the link.

That's not full multi-touch. It's dual-touch. FULL multi-touch can detect more than 2 presses at the same time. That's what we've been discussing.

Google map on legend, missing pinch to zoom?

Hi, anyone getting pinch to zoom to work in google map 4.1.1 on their legend?
pinch zooming is not supported as far as I know
Sent from my HTC Legend using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
right..it's not supported...by now...
it works well on milestone for sure. I used to use a milestone.
my legend cant pinch to zoom in original google map too
But I have install maps4.1.0.4126-brut6.apk, it can be pinch to zoom
being objective
we all love our new gadgets, but we should be objective and considering the idea that this phone is crap... (by now...)
- no pinch to zoom in gmaps
- ring volume problems
- missing apps in the market
- low battery life (in italy with tim, at least)
- facebook apk not working properly (with many contacts)
- mail client with a few problems (attached files "disappear" if sent with apple mail app)
I hope htc fixes all these buggy annoing problems...
HTC Desire has newer firmware, so thatswhy it supports pinch to zoom, etc.
Hoping HTC releases the the 2.1 update 1 firmware soon.
I encountered the pinch to zoom problem (very minor think, i can live with is), and the app market problem, but we know the cause for both.
Another thing I'd like to have on my legend is the rotation of the map with the compass in google maps, do you think is possible?

No info

You can try searching the forum for the google map brut r6 it enables pinch zoom. I installed out and out works without any issues.

any update?
Hi all,
Am on the verge of pulling the trigger on a Legend purchase...
Several reviews have hinted there is no pinch to zoom on Google Maps as have the posts in this thread ; fair enough - though is this feature arriving soon?
Or is it something that is simply not going to happen?
Any other users had much luck with ' brut r6 ' ? Does it differ in any way from the original Google Maps?
Any insight appreciated
actually i dont know how many people have noticed that the legend is missing alot of things from other 2.1 phones ie live wallpapers, pinch zooming in map, google earth
makes me wounder if they have done something to the legend to make it less appealing cause there really is no reason why the legend cant to live wallpapers cause the hero does it.
who knows hopefully we will get some stuff back when 2.2 is released
Pinch zooming in Google Maps is pretty desirable [no pun intended], anyone have that working or know whether the Legend will get it ?
Surely there is nothing hardware wise stopping it...
WHY people don't read other replies ?! And why don't you (all) read the forum?!?!?
There's ABSOLUTELY no probs at all having Multitouch (or pinch-to-zoom) in google maps! Go to the link below, download the apk, and get pinch-to-zoom , Google nav and so on!

And... yes...IT ALWAYS WORKS
Thanks, didn't really dive into the 'HTC Dream: G1 > G1 Android Development' subforum as I wouldn't have thought it's applicable to the Legend, if it were, it would've though it'd appear in the Legend subforum...?
Maybe that's just me though, I'm new to Android and therefore may have missed an obvious link between the two.
Thanks for the reply anyway, and for the link. And no, its not difficult to download an app and install it. Though I was asking ahead of a prospective purchase...

True about Flash and Froyo

So I was browsing the Internet to see how cool is to have Flash on Android device, I was sure Adobe improved flash due to many many criticizes about it but I was wrong.
I know(actually I think) that Google did his part, and improved speed and usability in Android, but Adobe still needs a LOT of optimization!
In this video you will see following because of installed Adobe Flash:
-Slow page loading(even though Google improved speed in Froyo!)
-choppy performance
-instability
-huge CPU and RAM usage
Android 2.2 (Froyo) Web Browser Test with Flash enabled
In my opinion don't install Adobe Flash Player
Don't get me wrong guys I love Android 2.2 and Google openness, but ADOBE needs to work...A LOT!
What do you expect? It's a beta release.

Than they shouldn't release it, it is useless!
Apple was right...I can't believe that is true!
This really bugs me, its FAR from useless. I have used it to play music from the myspace music players, games on kongregate, a liveleak video, and on the burger king website. It works great, if you keep it on demand and not on all the time, it won't even slow down your browsing. If you really think that this is useless, and shouldn't be released, then you are an idiot. It may not work 100% yet, but this is a huge step forward for the Android platform, and I for one am thankful that I have it on my Nexus. If you don't want it, you can uninstall it, it's that easy. Stop being whiny idiots and complaining about how it slows this down or uses too much CPU.
You can go into your settings and set the Flash plugin to "On demand" which essentially switches it off until you browse to a site with Flash content when you will see a play button. Press that button and the Flash will load.
Perhaps that should be the default option, but nonetheless, simple to change and is definitely the way forwards in my view.
i don't browse flash based website all the time, so it doesn't bother me at all. at least i know the mobile browser is fully functional for all websites.
Its Beta for a reason "Testing purposes"

Calm down. It's not even hardware accelerated yet. I for one am glad I've got any flash support this far.
If you only wanted something that's 100% failsafe go grab a parchment and quill
I hope the op isn't trolling. Adobe released the beta version for adventurous people to try it. If you don't think it is ready, then fine, just unistall it. No need to jump into conclusion when the final version isn't even out yet. The argument 'then they shouldn't release it (the beta version)' is rather weak because we are talking about a beta version here, which is expected to have flaws here or there...
flash works fine for me...and it definitely doesn't leave my browser sluggish...seems to be faster than the 2.1 browser even with Flash enabled...so I dunno.
Also, the Froyo browser is a fully capable HTML5 browser as well...so no, Apple wasn't right, Google was right...options > no options. I could understand if Google was anti-HTML5 but they are not, in fact as witnessed in the Day 1 Keynote of Google I/O they are one of HTML5's biggest supporters.
They just refuse to abandon the PRESENT to feed the future.
at least we have the option to use Flash.
You can change the plugin settings in the browser to load on demand so it will only load the flash content if u click on it.
Seriously, some people need to learn what "BETA" means. u_u
it's funny.
I was reading this and went to cnn and I was watching that oil spill vid.
And then someone called me. The vid stops and I talk on the phone to a
co worker and then hang up after about ten minutes. After pressing the end call button the video starts back up in the browser.
I thought that was pretty cool.
It's better than I thought it would be, and I'm pretty happy to have it.

Other than huge flash sites its awesome for me. I think its easily almost done.
Yeah initially flash slowed down my browser but once I switched it to ON DEMAND only everything is perfect. The thing I like about android is that I have the CHOICE to use flash if I want. I don't have to let apple choose for me. And when html5 matures and is mainstream I will have to choice to use both.

2.1 limitations and possible work arounds

It would appear that our long wait is drawing to end and the 2.1 should be released shortly. Unfortunately, there are some features that us soon to be 2.1 owners might still be missing to complete our X10 experience.
In order to get a jump on future improvements this thread is a place where you can comment on features that you would like to see added/cooked to our X10's after the revision.
What feature would you like to see added? Portable HotSpots, Voice Command over Bluetooth, Data backup, 10.1, etc...
Or, maybe you know about an existing work around and would like to spread the word?
Portable hotspots can be done now (with root access)...Barnacle WiFi Tether from the Market.
Besides for Flash and the speed improvements, I don't really need Froyo. Automatic app updates would be nice, and voice commands too, but I doubt I'd ever really use that.
I've already used froyo on my nexus one when I had it and I couldn't care less for froyo. 2.1 is most definitely good enough for me. 720p video recording, 16million colors is all I want. Mt doesn't matter either. 2.1 drops and ill be set.

And, 10.1 yeah that is a pretty big one. I really don't need a cell phone/portable device, but since I have it, 10.1 is a big yes. Kind of THE reason I purchased the X10.

I'm curious to why Flash is needed on a mobile phone. The option to have it is nice, but it not being there is definitely not a drawback. Most big video sites use HTML5 for video now, and for the few that don't, Skyfire works fine in loading the videos up. The only other things Flash is used for is ads, games and poorly designed websites. For games, 95% would control absolutely awfully, due to the lack of physical controls on the device. And no one wants to view ads if they don't have to.
Hence, my reasoning for not considering a "lack" of Flash as a "limitation" of 2.1.

The thing is, we all bought this phone knowing it supports 65k colors.
SE didn't say anywhere that it will get 16mil with 2.1 upgrade ... or anything else.
People assumed is a 1.6 downside (like the 256Mb ram vs 384) and because the mini was advertised as 16mil it means X10 has it too.
Time will tell if is a driver issue or hardware issue
Not having 16m colors is kind of a bummer. Not really needed though.
All i'm really looking forward to at this point is the app compatibility. Anything else is just icing on the cake.

Not a personal attack or flaming.

It's needed because it's highly desired and also available on other phones - I don't mean to sound cynical or rhetoric but I certainly want it for a variety of reasons. It's not as bad as you make it out to be. Even so, many people like myself highly desire this.
unfortunatley it looks like there will be no 16m colors.

They say "at this time" which tells me not with 2.1 but maybe with that updtate to timescape/mediascape they are talking about....if not I think I will be a unhappy camper.

It never crossed my mind. A valid point.
Apps to sdcard would be a blessing. I hope this could be added. It would make a root worth while.

+1, only thing i'd really really like to see enginered to our 2.1 is app2sd. Not that i have so many apps it's a total need for it, just becouse i like it that way. Feels better to have a clean rom. Easier to re-flash and play around with cooked roms without having to re-install all apps aswell.

Not sure how many people have seen this and whether they believe it to be real.

I reckon the chance of getting anything additional to whats been listed (If this is real) are fairly low taking into account the SE software development speed we've come to know and love.

It doesn't really effect me either. But I know that there will be people who might be left wanting.
We all want different things from our X10's. The idea of the thread is that we high light what is important to each of us. And, we can post work around as we find them.

I am with you on that. If I could only ask for one thing it would start with 10.1.
Not saying that there isn't a list of other things that I would like. Such as apps2sd. We can only hope and wait for someone to either come up with a work around or buy a device with more features.
