Nexus S pricing - Nexus One General

for the sim free version in the US its gonna be $529 and for the same sim free version in the UK its gonna be £549
Using google currency converter i found the US version to be £220 cheaper ($330)
Would it be possible for me to buy a US version and get it shipped to UK to use here since they essentially are both the same?
thanks in advance for the replies guys
not sure where the right place to post this is, so MODs if feel it should be elsewhere.

I think you might find that the US version is aimed at T-Mobile which means that the 3g frequency would be wrong for the UK, edge would work ok. If they come out with an ATT version, then that one would probably work ok on 3g in the UK.

actually its the other way around. T-mo version works fine in Europe, but not att. att uses 850mhz band, while T-mo and europe uses 900mhz.
so yes, it will work fine in UK

ill still by it anyways lol

I think that would only matter stateside. Both the att and tmo versions will support Europe's 2100 umts networks.

the us version will support euro 3g.

The UK pricing is insulting really, I don't know who they expect to pay the full unlocked price. I think I may have too find a way to import it from the US. If anyone has a suggestion..

Wow, I didn't predict it'd be as bad as that!
I'll be doing my best to source alternatives sources for an S, if there's anything else to put me off, they'll have lost a customer:-
No SD, unfair pricing basically forcing an Import (I bet warranties on imports will be void since there was a valid UK source...)

not sure mate but i doubt it.
for e.g
cheapest iphone 4 on contract is £25 a month for 75 mins and 250 texts for 24 months with £219 for the handset.
Seems ridiculous and i could use up the allowance in 2 days lol, compare that to AT&T and it looks like you lot are getting a bargain lol

Can the US version accept SIM cards?
I thought that was the problem with importing phones from the US to europe...

Yes. ATT and TMO use sims in their phones. I don't know if the nexus s is a micro sim like the iphone4 is though.

Yes, it's Sprint or Verizon (or both) than can't take a SIM. AT&T/T-Mobile use SIMs.

You can't compare an iPhone tariff to an Android one, Apple take a huge cut and are ridiculously priced for handset and tariff. Try comparing the same phones in the UK and US and you'll see a big difference.

As far as I know, all Google Nexus phones are unlocked by default.

Im suprised that Nexus S (£550 = about 650 EUR) costs more than iPhone 4 in EU (£500). Also it costs much more than SGS (420 EUR here) or even Desire HD (540 EUR).

450????? Holy mother of god that's cheap
I thought 530 for the nexus one was an amazing deal. You bet your sweet ass I'll be at the local T-mobile store on the release day.
It was between the nexus one and the HD2, but I think saving 80 bucks will be a better bet. Even though it probably won't get wp7, I'll be happy with it.
We will find out for sure at MIX

Wow I hope those are the prices, depressing that its 100 cheaper than my Fuse and my S730 lol...
Damn good price.
Hmmm decisions decisions.
Was about to get the euro version unbranded for 599 shipped.
and now tmobiles unsubsidized price is rumored at 450. so technically 480ish after my state taxes.
What do you guys think? Pay 120 more for unbranded + euro/asia 3g? or get the unsubsidized for 480 and unlock it later.
I am on tmobile us right now and don't plan on getting 3g on my plan anyways. and I am traveling abroad to asia for a year but I might not even subscribe to a 3g plan (maybe just edge) while im over there.

The price could be low because they want to get a lot of them out.. due to NO WP7 upgrade or because it WILL be WP7 upgrade.
Or maybe just because it's a few months ago now and they feel bad for us..
could the TMo version work outside the US?
This is fantastic news. Now i can upgrade from my htc x7501
so when is the officail relaease date then i have heard the 12th, the 14th, and the 24th??? anyone with any officail news on a release date???
3G Band Frequency
Hey guys, do we know what 3G band frequencies the T-mobile version will have?
I know that T-mobile uses 1700Mhz for 3G... do we know if this version will have other bands like 850Mhz....
I live in Canada and I do plan to buy the HD2 in near future, in Canada in order to get 3G you need either 850Mhz, 1700Mhz or 1900Mhz frequency band enabled phone.
I would like to buy a phone that can do 3G, rather than the Europe version. If the price of this phone is actually $449, then I will most probably buy this one.
Does anyone know how you can buy this phone from Canada, I mean for this price? I know some websites that sell unlocked phones but the prices are usually very high.
Thank You
Hmmm, i coulda swore i read somewhere that tmobile uses the 1700 band for 3G
yeah tmobile uses 1700/2100 for 3g in the US.
it will not have the 850 or 1900 bands.
From one Roger user to another...The answer is NO, t-mobile 3G model will not work on Rogers/Fido network or the new Bell/Telus HSPA network. The T-Mobile phone will only be useful if you are on WindMobile as they use the same 3G frequency as T-Mobile.
The Europe version T8585 will give yah Edge speeds while the T9193(Telstra) will give yah 3G speeds here in Canada.
Hope that helps to clear the confusion.

Depending on which US carrier you'll be using, it would be better to buy a carrier-specific Tab and then flash it with a modem/rom that enables voice calling.

US version on European 3G Networks

Hey Everyone,
So I live in Germany but I will be visiting the USA for Thanksgiving weekend. I am contemplating buying the Tab for $550 at Best Buy on black Friday. So if I find it worth it, should I get the Sprint or T-Mobile one? Or can I even use either of them unlocked so I can use 3G with my German Fonic SIM card (I think it uses the O2 networks)?
Thanks
T-Mobile US and AT&T are your only options. You will have to SIM unlock them.
Sprint and Verizon use their own wireless transmission protocol that is, with a few exceptions, incompatible with the rest of the world. In particular, no SIM card
The biggest issue you will find is the lack of phone functionality on the US models.
You should however be able to flash a Euro firmware, and it's quite likely that you get both phone and 3G data on a European network. I couldn't definitively state that this is the case though!
Caveat Emptor!
Regards,
Dave
OK, so you think I would be able to get T-Mobile version, and it should work with the 3G connections in Europe? And if so, can I easily unlock it and put in my SIM card as I have done with other American smartphones I use here?
Thanks
I think you're better of getting the AT&T Tab since it will have the UMTS 850, 1900, 2100 bands, EU uses the 2100, you will have to flash the eu rom on it though... Wait, the TMO Tab also has 2100... IDK someone will have to chime in...
Here's a comparison of the US models and the international Tab:

You might double check.... cus based on my local store and the best buy website... they are only selling Verizon and Sprint tabs... I don't think the will be selling Tmos, according to a Best Buys rep.
But of course Tmo should have them in stock...
If the standard Euro Tab is available in your airport departure lounge, you should be able to pick one up on your outward bound journey VAT free. It might still be more expensive than a US one, but not by much (assuming they are priced similarly to the UK) and would probably be a better bet all round.
Regards,
Dave

Unlocked Samsung Omnia 7 In The US?

Anyone using an unlocked Omnia 7 in the US? If so, where did you purchase yours from? Any problems, comments, or concerns?
Bought from Expansys and used in the US for a bout one week on T-mobile.
No problems, worked great.
Bought it from there as well. Used it in Canada, and now in the Middle East. The box came opened though, probably to unlock it.
Beauty of Samsung is that when you boot up it asks what language you want it in. My packaging was French, and so were the manuals, so it was great I got to choose English from the very beginning.
My package was Portuguese, box came sealed but was opened to put an EU to US plug for the transformer which was EU.
Very cool. 3G Data hasn't been a problem for you guys?
I've been trying to find one used, for a resonable price, but they are a bit tough to find.
Anyone else using one in the US? No data problems?
Does the 3G work ok? And how's the data?
I'm thinking of buying this device to use on T-Mobile (USA).

Tested 3G and Edge, both worked great. T-mobile is the only network you can use due to the Omnia 7 EU Frequencies.
Device in general is very good, very robust. Only problem for me is MMS as there is no place for manual MMS configuration andf the Omnia 7 tries getting the configuration based on the SIM card.... Which did not work for me.

I literally just had someone in California pop a T-Mobile SIM into a mint unlocked one and no 3G. I just can't justify spending this kind of cash on an EDGE only device. Way to much disparity in 3G reports across the US. Some places it seems to work, others not. MMS isn't a problem for me, I really need the 3G.
I'm told the build quality is substantially better than the Focus. And the overall feel of the Mobile is quite enjoyable. I'd really love to have a SA display, running WP7, on T-Mobile. This HD7 screen is killing my eye's.
So there's conflicting reports on the 3G then. Some people in the US and Canada have had success with it, others haven't... Hmm... 3G is a must if I'm going to shell $700 on a mobile device.
It's a shame that I'm not entirely satisfied with my HD7.

Costs $565.00 + shipping (and possibly taxes/customs fees when entering the US), but IMO well worth the extra cost compared to the 8GB model currently available on eBay in the US.

Sorry, haven't been back yet, so can't comment on how they work in the US, other than having read a lot of people using them with both 3G and HSDPA. Seems to depend on carrier and city.

Since the rest of the world has always had the ability to purchase unlocked phones for any carrier and US wireless companies tend to want their phones locked down tight to their networks, it might not be a big market concern for them outside of the US market. If enough people wrote/ called/ messaged HTC from other regions they might be willing to make a version for other areas with LTE, but it sounds like that isn't their immediate plan.

I am way more likely to get One given this. $650 for 64GB is a great deal. IPhone 5 64 is $850 US. I bet this will be a Nexus 4 -- sell out in 30 minutes -- situation.
Then again, I am on ATT, soon to go to Straight Talk.
This version will be sold with sim and bootloader factory unlocked? If so it works in all countries...
So this would work fine on Sprint? I don't understand this AWS business.
