[Q] Internal works slide

I just received my certified refurbished Nook Color last night. I noticed today that when I move it form side to side I feel the internal componets of the Nook sliding. Is this normal? Should I be calling B & N to get a replacement?
I can't download books from my library says, "Unable to download. Problem downloading item. Plese try again later." This is from the regular Nook 1.2 boot.
On the plus side I have been able to create and run CM 7 from an uSD card.
That's not normal. Send it back.
Having disassembled a NC recently, the only thing I can conceive that would be sliding back and forth is maybe the battery. It doesn't have much room to move around, though. Wonder if they left something inside?.. lol
I'd definitely send it back.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll call them tomorrow and get an authorization to return.
Update
I called B & N yesterday, I got a return authorization and a full refund. Well I get the refund when they recieve the Nook. They will credit my PayPal account. At first they weren't giving me a pre-paid return label. I said hey it was damaged, not my fault. After that I received the e-mail with the pre-paid UPS label.
As it was a gift my my wife, I now have a new Nook Color. I would not hesitate to purchase a certified pre-owned, but she wanted me to replace it with a new one. I love it, running CM7 from San Disk uSD card.

i bought a used KF and need some help

I bought a fire from an acquaintance I run into from time to time at work and I'm having an issue. Apparently neither one of us were aware that it had to be deregistered before I could register it to me. The tech I spoke with at amazon informed me of this. This is a problem for me because I don't have a way to contact him, I usually just see him around. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to sign in to the amazon market within the app as opposed to it redirecting me to the kindle registering page? I rooted and installed google market and am really enjoying the fire but would like to access some of the apps that I have already purchased from amazon. Any help is greatly appreciated.
You can deregister the Fire by going to Settings -> My Account -> Deregister. (No account information is needed) Then you can enter your own Amazon account. That way you can access the Amazon App Store and other Amazon content.

I'm assuming that because it was wiped before I got it that it's not giving me that option. It only gives me the option to register and if I try it give me a "contact customer support " message. The tech I spoke with said it needed to be dergistered but he wasn't allowed to contact previous owner about it.
The process of resetting the device to factory default does a deregister as part of the process. When done, the device is ready to go like right out the box.
Sounds like some other issue.

I don't know, I reset it twice trying to get it to work before calling customer support and the guy telling me that it had to be deregistered.
It is probably stolen.
There's a system app called "amazon device client platform", I'm wondering if freezing it would "seperate" the amazon apps from the device, essentially making the apps behave as if they were on a phone.

I really hope it's not.
The person who registered the kindle has to log into their Amazon account and deregister the device. If the fire was wiped, then that will be the only way.

By the time I run into him again CM7 or some other custom rom will probably be out and therefor I won't need it de registered any more.
I think that com.amazon.dcp.apk is the way to seperate amazon apps from the device making them behave as they would on a phone(ie.able to sign in within the app). I'm considering freezing that app and seeing what happens, I am however concerned that I might do some harm.
Perhaps?
If someone uploaded a clean version of com.amazon.dcp.apk and you deleted the one on the device would that work? Or is the registration kept on the Amazon servers? I don't really know, just curious if this would work.

I think that com.amazon.dcp.apk would either have to be frozen/removed or it would have to be altered in a way to not recognize the appstore. You see, when i go to the appstore and try to sign in i get kicked out to device registering, and I am trying to get it to let me sign in within the app like you would do on your phone. The appstore apk on the fire and the apk on my phone seem to be identical so it should be possible. I am in no way sure of anything, just making a slightly educated guess.

If you follow the guide on here on unbircking (i know your device isnt bricked) your device it will get it to the "out of the box" state in which you will be prompted to register your device under your own information. It will wipe user data which is what his information is under. You will need to reroot and everything afterward but it may fix your issue

Unfortunately I've had it at "out of the box state" for a while and I still can't get to accept my registration. I've been doing some google-ing and it seems I'm not the only person to have this problem, it's happening to people who ordered their fires directly from amazon, only problem is I can't return mine.
Just a guess... there is a registration number associated with the device which is not touchable normally.
When I first got mine, actually ordered for my wife, it auto-registered it to me even though I entered nothing. I had to deresgister the device and then use her account to register it to.
It was very weird to have it do that on it's own. This was an out of box unit that had never been used, yet it was already allocated to my account (like it was a gift).
I'm guessing that every unit has a unique code in it for that purpose.
Unless you can change that code where ever it is, I think you will be stuck.
Seems not worth the money to mess around with a used unit when you can get a brand new one for $199 or less (I got one for $123.99)

Seriously.... Incredible Deal? You bought an unknown unit from a friend of a friend that you can't get a hold of, that Amazon says is already registered and might possibly be stolen. It is like buying a cell phone with a blacklisted ESN number.

Yes. An Incredible Deal. If the unit was blacklisted i'm pretty sure the 2 techs i spoke to at amazon wouldn't have spent hours trying to help me register it. Besides as it sits right now it's an exteremly capable $100 tablet, even if i never get the amazon stuff figured out.
No... that is an incredible deal
I think this is a better "Incredible Deal"... Brand new sealed in the box with full warranty and return privileges. Only $24 (~$30 with tax) more than you paid for your used machine.

Today is Official Launch

OUYA sent out an update last night on Kickstarter saying today is the official launch.
Site changed from "pre order" to "buy now".
http://www.ouya.tv/
Just got my Ouya. Two hiccups:
1) After updating, I needed to turn the wifi off then on (in the Android setup menu) to reconnect to the network. Otherwise, it wasn't seeing the network.
2) Wow, you need a credit card just to finish setup?! I don't kiss on first date. I don't like to give credit cards out before getting to know the Ouya. Not cool. My probability of returning the unit went up to 20%.
Atleast you have a unit... I pre-ordered february first and not on my doorstep.
I even have an email saying that i should recieve my unit in april.
Contacted support and they said it will ship in a little while.
Thanks aholes!

You don't need a credit card to complete the setup, it's optional, at least it has been prior to last nights update. In fact, they just added support for prepaid cards two updates ago, so there's no way they are requiring a card. I know when I setup my console, it asked if I wanted to enter it, I just hit cancel or whatever it was and that was it.
Not saying you're wrong, it could very well be a bug or something, which wouldn't be good, but you're the first one I've seen say that today.

I didn't enter it willy nilly. Tried really hard to avoid it, but couldn't. Even searched online to see if there was a trick to it.

Ive had mine for about a week, but for some reason yesterday after i updated it kicked me out of my account and made me re login and forced me to add a credit card... not sure if it can be removed after the fact though havent bothered to try it yet...

sorry if I came off thinking you were dumb in some way, I didn't mean it like that at all! After I replied, I actually heard many others saying the same thing. I wonder why they required this! It makes no sense, unless it's another layer of protection against bootlegging from the market. But if that was the case, they should have come out to say it.

[Q] HELP!!! - SIM Unlock Galaxy S4 - EE Problems

Hello,
This is my first time posting in here and I'm only here because I'm absolutely desperate.
I left EE on 19th April to get a SIM Only deal with another company. I was told I needed to buy a sim unlock code but decided to have a look online first before committing to paying for it.
The same day I filled in the online form to request an unlock code, the confirmation email said it would take 7-10 days (note not working days) for the code to arrive. I received a text on the alternate number I provided saying that they needed to contact Samsung for the code which would take a bit longer - which is fine and from the info I found online I expected. 24th April my PAC Code goes through with the new company but still no code. This is fine because the weekend is coming up and I wouldn't need my phone anywhere that didn't have WiFi.
I get another text on 28th April saying the exact same thing as the text from the 24th. When I call EE on the 30th I am told that the code has already been emailed/text to me but they cannot resend the code (for some reason they don't keep a copy of any texts or emails they send) but I will have it within 72 hours (again note not working hours)
So I phone up 4 days later and ask where my code is, to which I'm told it was 72 working hours and 7-10 working days. Admittedly I got a bit angry on the phone (and did apologise to the poor girl I spoke to) and was passed to a manager who told me that she would contact whomever and raise an urgent "ticket" meaning I would get the code by 5pm the same day.
So I called at 5:30 and was told that I needed to wait another 72 hours not until 5pm and that I should not have been told 72 hours to start with, and that they will have to start the whole process again meaning I have to wait another 10 working days!!!
I need help now because I am absolutely sick to death of this ridiculous company! Their customer service just keep lying to get me off the phone and I have no way to keep in touch with my heavily pregnant wife when I'm not on the WiFi! I am away from her for a week from tomorrow and I have no confidence that EE will ever pull their finger out and fix this for me.
Does anyone on here know if there is anyway I can get flash a stock ROM for a non EE phone and go through the procedure to unlock my phone?
Any help would be much appreciated
You don't need to change ROMs so long as you are on a stock ROM. You will have to temporarily downgrade the modem however. We have an entire thread devoted to unlocking the S4, including instructions. They work so long as the modem is downgraded beforehand. After unlocking, restore your old modem.

Google Store Problems, need help

I pre-ordered the Nexus6P, on the day it was available for pre-order, and last week, the credit card I had, it had fraudulent activity, and when Google tried to charge my card prior to shipping it, it didn't go through, so I called to get the payment switched to another card, but they said they couldn't do that. And told me that I would have to cancel and reorder, but I told them I didn't want to lose my spot in the queue, and also lose my 50 dollar google play credit for preordering, because the item is out of stock now and I wont' be able to order it and get the 50 dollar credit.
The stupid thing is, my phone case, I was able to change that payment method online and that has shipped, so I'm stuck with a phone case and no phone.
On friday, When i called, they said they would call me back after they discussed what their options were with their specialists, and I never received a call back. I have emailed support twice, and haven't received a reply to either email.
Google's customer service is terrible, and was hoping somebody could offer me advice on what I could do to get this situation taken care of.
Did you get the original card reissued with a new card number or was the original card momentarily suspended for possible fraudulent activity? If the card number was cancelled its entirely reasonable of Google to cancel the order as the original payment type is no longer valid. If the card was just momentarily suspended and the card number is still the same and now active why don't you just ask the to reattempt the authorization.
You may not like what happening, but if I cancel my card/account for fraud I absolutely expect all the merchants using that account to halt service/shipments of anything tied to that card. To do otherwise would be irresponsible of the merchant.
When in doubt, keep calling till you get someone who does what you want. If you're adamant about them charging a new payment type on the same order just keep calling and asking. Maybe you'll eventually get someone who won't follow the instructions...
A new card number was issued, however, google emailed me and said the order is on hold and to update the payment method to a new card, with a link, and when I go to the link it wouldn't allow me to update the payment method, it allowed me to do it with my phone case, but not the phone. I will keep calling until somebody will resolve my situation.,

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Were you able to solve the credit card problem with Google?
Were you able to solve the credit card issue with Google?
I am stuck in the same situation as you, as a couple of weeks ago the credit card that I used to place my Nexus 6P preorder was compromised and my credit card company had to cancel it and issue me a new one. I haven't gotten the e-mail from Google stating that they could not process my card, but trying to be proactive and solve the problem before it happens, I contacted Google several time (twice by chat, once on the phone) to try to provide them the new credit card to be used but I simply have been told that there is no way of changing it until I get the e-mail from Google stating that they can't charge my now-defunct card as the system is completely automated and doesn't allow for any human intervention at Google's side. I asked them what could I do if I get stuck in the same situation you are describing, where after getting the e-mail from Google stating that my card could not be charge no way would be provided to change the card to be used to pay for the phone and I have gotten different answers ranging from "well talk to us and we'll figure it out" to "you will need to cancel your order and place a new one". this last one specially sucks since it would place me at the end of the line and my current cell phone (An HTC One M7) is on its dying legs (it loses cellular connection and Wi-Fi connection about 3/4 of the day).
That is why I am bugging you asking you if you got this issue fixed with Google, and if so, what did you do to fix it, as I am nearing the time where I'll need to fix it (My order was supposed to be shipped by Oct. 30 but still hasn't been shipped or charged).
Thanks !
Aaaaand, I am now in the same state as you were, with Google not being able to change my payment method to my new credit card. I received the e-mail from Google asking me to change my credit card, followed the link on it asking to change the payment method for the order to the new card and the order remained on hold. Went to payments.google.com and tried doing the same and the order remained on hold. Talked to Google support and Wallet Support and they both just give me vague answers telling me to wait 24 to 48 hours. If I ask if I simply can talk to a human being and get the payment method changed I am being a spiel stating that this cannot be done because "Google values their users' privacy and security". Man, this is not fun. Google, if you guys are reading this, you need to make the resolution of problems like this a lot easier. These are far too many hoops to make your customers to go through, specially after already keeping them waiting endlessly because their orders were already delayed.
