T-Mobile UK Galaxy S Froyo Update Delayed - Vibrant General

Came across the article below. Keep in mind that this article applies to T-Mobile UK's Galaxy S. I thought I would post it here because it is showing the difficulty T-Mobile is having customizing Froyo for their phone. They promised the update by December 1st, and now they're talking about it coming out as late as December 11th. And, they apparently didn't mention anything prior to December 1st, and only released the statement after press inquiries.
In light of this, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Vibrant's Froyo update gets delayed as well.
http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...logises-for-galaxy-s-android-2-2-delay-913079
T-Mobile has responded to TechRadar's request for more information on the Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 deployment delay, apologising for the whole episode.
The network originally promised the update would land by 1 December at the latest, but failed to meet that deadline, later confirming it would happen next week.
TechRadar asked T-Mobile for a reason behind this delay, and received the following:
"T-Mobile apologises for any inconvenience caused by the delay in 2.2 Froyo update for the Samsung Galaxy S.
"It is our priority to ensure that the update will provide our customers with the best possible experience and we are working hard to make this happen as soon as possible."
Lifting the lid
T-Mobile couldn't comment on a reason for the delay, but reading between the pretty wide lines it's clear the Galaxy S upgrade failed some part of the testing process at the last moment.
The problem here wasn't that the upgrade has taken so long to deploy (although it has irked customers) but a missed self-imposed deadline meant that users were constantly checking for something that never arrived.
We hope the Android 2.2 update lands by next Friday from T-Mobile, which we're assured it will, and we don't have to talk about this until Android 2.3 Gingerbread lands...

Possible U.S. launch date June 29th, according to IntoMobile

Just found this little tidbit while reading some info about this phone. It looks like IntoMobile received an invite to a Samsung launch party for an unannounced device. Guess we'll find out in a few weeks.
Can't post link since I'm new...doh
But is this for Tmobile or is it for all the U.S. carriers? I don't want to wait for like 3 months of Tmobile exclusivity until it comes to at&t.
Yea, I wish they would hurry up and announce a carrier. Hopefully it will come out to all 4 carriers so that nobody will be left out.
I've pasted the info from IntoMobile below:
"There are a lot of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S launch date floating around the interwebs, but we’ve just received something that might point to a more reliable launch window for Samsung’s upcoming flagship Android phone. We’ve just been asked to save June 29th on our calendars for some mysterious Samsung launch party in New York City. Details are slim (well, none) at this point, but the invite to the smartphone maker’s launch event gets our speculative juices flowing.
The invite informs us that “Samsung Mobile brings you the next generation in Android phones.” Now, if you’ve been keeping up with Galaxy S rumors at all, you’ll know that this particular smartphone boasts a Super AMOLED display, the Hummingbird graphical powerhouse GPU, and is powered by the Android 2.1 OS. All that adds up to what is very likely considered by the South Korean mobile phone giant to be their next generation of Android phones.
Other rumors have the Galaxy S hitting T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) on July 21st. There’s also the possibility that the handset will hit AT&T (NYSE: T) later this year. We could see the handset being launched for one of these (or both) carriers on June 29th, but that’s just speculation. We really have no idea what this launch party is for, but we’d wager that it has something to do with the Galaxy."
I"m not sure I understand why it is so important to keep it all secret. While they go on and on not telling us anything, some folks will get tired of waiting and buy something else. I guess that's why I'm not in marketing...because some things just don't make sense to me.
Agreed. I just want the device as soon as possible. I don't know if it's only getting limited release because of quantity limitations or what, but they know they're going to sell a ton here in the US, why not just get it here?
June 29th?! Nice, that is same date they unveiled the SGS for US carriers! Here is hoping for another mid-july release!

I think you will find that could be what this thread was about, have a look at the dates posted. You're posting in a 11 month old thread.

Froyo in Oz- coming soon!

Chatted online with an optus business rep today to ask how much the new samsung tablet will be (about the same as a Galaxy, expect a $49 plan for it), also asked if & when froyo for the galaxy is coming on optus. He said OTA update will be in first week in september!
Sorry if this is old news. I can post a copy of the conversation if anyone wants it, I printscreened it but forgot to paste & lost it..
Anyway, good news!

I think this might be slightly outdated. Initial rumors pointed that Galaxy S would be getting Froyo in Korea before the end of August with it rolling out internationally in September. The rumor was so strong that the news media weere saying that the local carrier was aiming to give unlimited data and encourage tethering after an August Froyo release.
There are only 3 business days remaining in Korea, so that rumor seems to be coming and going without being fulfilled. Also, the rumor mill here hasn't been hot, which I expected it would be by now if we were indeed getting this in August.

My post referred only to Optus users in Australia.
Hope this is true, I can't wait for an official release of Froyo.
Thanks for the heads up

Bell Froyo Release Date in Vancouver

I spoke to a representative at Bell, she said that Froyo will be rolling out December 6th through Kies. Don't know if this is posted anywhere else, just thought I'd let you eager Bell users know.
Thanks for the heads up ..if this is true let the countdown begin....
If our Kies doesnt work, we are pretty much screwed for the official bell update >_<
Never trust a Bell agent. I have an audio recording of an other agent which is 100% sure that the update will be out in November. In August, they told me it would be september.
Don't hold your breath on that one. Canada got the vibrant seemingly last. And the rollout for Froyo isn't complete in the other countries that got the I9000 before we did. Id' best guess the soonest isn't until sometime in the first quarter of the new year.
I'm thinking the failure rate after the update is gonna be huge. And Corporate wants their bonuses for a good Christmas season in terms of sales. That's why I'm saying Feb '11, after the Christmas rush & the January warehouse clearance sales.

If what you are saying is true...there is going to be some huge backlash. Especially after the post on facebook on the Samsung page which mentioned Dec 15th.

First, this is pure speculation, even more considering the post made by samsung.
First, the Froyo release is not following the same path as the release of the phone itself (having to wait after the others...) second, pre-release are already available trough test mode in kies, wich means the testing is ongoing pretty good as of now.
As for the bonuses part, in a big corporation like bell, their already given! Bell won't wait on that to give/not give bonus.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... Someone decided to crank up the old rumor mill again.
I bought my phone the day it came out on Aug 6th and have been weeks and sometimes only days away from 2.2 the whole time....

SD card failure is higher for the I9000M than the rest of the international members of this site. I know the polling is unscientific, but it does seem to indicate there may be a problem with releasing Froyo. I still stand on not holding my breath for the 15th.
Bell and Kies
You need to be careful with Bell. On Aug. 19, I got my galaxy and installed kies, as they told me to. I hit the 3 hour window when Samsung put out the corrupted update (according to the Samsung Rep). It trashed my bios. I called Bell and they said, it was my problem because it wasn't their software and they don't recommend anyone use it. When I pointed out I had an internal Bell memo instructing the retailors to tell customers to install it, and how to do it,(I still have it) I was told that was impossible, it wasn't their problem and to call Samsung. Then they hung up.
Needless to say I have not received any help from Samsung either, and the regional Rep won't answer my emails anymore.

And that's why I purchased the extra warranty coverage. $7 a month but I can run my phone over with my truck and still bring it in.

I was also told by a bell employee that 2.2 is coming in a few days.
I'm not in Vancouver (ottawa), but this morning no update through Kies.

Ya right...I'll believe it when i have it on my phone.
Just called my bell agent and he told me it would really be deploying by mid december. He talked to the samsung rep and they also received a official memo from bell stating mid decem ber. So don't hold your breath for today
Samsung Mobile already said Mid-December on their Facebook page.
Yeah, no dice here... Hopefully on the 15th, its a bit ridiculous really...
I don't see why anyone would get excited about this... BOTH of my Vibrants have died running 2.2. When this update gets released there are going to be a lot of dead vibrants

you had to hack your vibrant to get it on
that may have caused a problem. I would hope that bell will develop it to work on thier phone without the need to fool the phone and will have had ample testing to make sure it works. at least if it does not work, by putting the new OS using normal means, it will be up to \Bell to fix it.
sorry to hear you had so much trouble
Which companies are not jokes these days!
Why hasn't someone started a cell company who treats their customers properly.....
If you can offer them great service, prices and plans, the company would have it made!
no one would switch, they would tell their friends which would bring more business.
Corporations are a joke these days!!!
All they care about is your money. All people care about is MONEY!
We (the people) need to make choices "together" to be able to control the direction of these corporations.
if we started a movement here in Vancouver, with 1 million strong, we could make change happen.
Who is with me!

Froyo

I was just reading that sprint set to tenatively start pushing out the froyo update for the intercept on 17th if all goes according to plan. I would love to see this rooted.
http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/241158#241158
it's out. My intercept is in the mail from the bay. when it gets here i'll be updating it and testing to see if the wifi widget work around works on this release.
Disheartened
Sprint Samsung Intercept users were unhappy about the upgrade as it bricked a lot of phones. Within a week all bugs were sorted out and Sprint Samsung Intercept users became very happy.
We Samsung Intercept users @Virgin Mobile USA have just experienced our first heart break (at least it was not bricked phone due to buggy Android 2.2). Here is the reason for heart break -
Virgin Mobile USA is pushing back the Android 2.2 (FroYo) upgrade to first week of April 2011.
Here is from their Twitter Account:
@NG_Player I'm sorry, the update is being rescheduled due to some internal timing issues. It should be ready the first week of April.

Latest tweet from Virgin Mobile USA regarding Samsung Intercept Froyo upgrade:
We know you have been asking for specifics on when VM will be getting the update to Android Froyo 2.2….it will be available about 3/25.

Virgin Mobile USA confirmed the upgrade on twitter with post:
@islandboy4lyfe Yes – the update will be coming this Spring – stay tuned for more specific details.

Samsung: All Galaxy S models to get Gingerbread (eventually)

Engadet reports Samsung announcement of Gingerbrad on entire Galaxy S line.
From the Samsung press release:
The Android 2.3 upgrade will start with GALAXY S in the UK and Nordic countries from mid-May, and gradually rolled out to other European markets, North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, Africa and rest of the world according to the regional plan.

Of course, we don't know what that "regional plan" holds for the Epic.
Thanks... I missed this on engadget
I wouldn't put that under "Eventually"..ive seen that yesterday and by the sound of it, it seems ready and they are just rolling it out one regent at a time to prevent any major issue from becoming apparent..
Also, didnt someone say it will be ready by may 15th and come out in june? That article seems to be confirming that statement vaguely..but never the less confirming..

Well, since other rollouts of Eclair and Froyo to U.S. variants have lagged the initial rollouts on the reference model Galaxy S in Europe by months, I am guessing that we also will have a while to wait for Gingerbread. There were many optimistic threads last year assuming that announced upgrades for "Galaxy S" phones would be adapted and released by Sprint and other carriers here quickly.
The optimists were always wrong. Maybe they will be right this time.
