Minor hassle with Nexus One after rooting, will I get the same issue with Glaxy Tab, - Galaxy Tab General

Hi everyone,
I rooted my Nexus One and have a minor hassle with it. Every 2 weeks or so, I get a message to install update, I say yes, then switch off, from the "service menu" <- sorry if that's the wrong word, and then I am OK for another 2 weeks or so.
If I root my Galaxy Tablet using Z4Root, am I going to get the same problem?
Any advice much appreciated !
Ofiaich

I think I got the answer to this,
My Nexus One has a Modaco ROM installed, and developed issues after.
My Galaxy Tablet will not have different roms installed, so rooting should not be a problem.
It is now rooted, and I am running Titanium Backup with no issues,
Ofiaich

If you have rooted and installed a custom rom, you should never download/install an ota update unless its by the dev.
Paul @ MoDaCo is (hopefully) working on a MCR for the Tab ;D

Galaxy Tab new User

Hi Guys,
Just got my Gtab yesterday noon...
Great Device.
would any of you suggest a way to fully backup the rom before trying to root it?
Here in Israel i got it for 14 days trial so i would like to squeeze it to the max before
deciding what to do with it.
Use this method to root the Tab;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
I did it last night. It's fast, and doesn't screw up your Tab in any way if it fails. But it doesn't fail, LoL.
Backing up the whole rom is kinda complicated...
EDIT: explained myself a little better
Hi. First thx.
I will start my process.
Any one started developing on it?

[Q] Tried to root, Everything went perfectly but I'm not rooted?!

Hi,
First off sorry for posting a new thread here but I don't have 10 posts yet so I can't reply in the appropriate place.
I just tried to root my transformer following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106587
Everything appeared to work perfectly in ADB and I now have the modified CWM installed..... But I'm not rooted!
Tried to confirm I had root using the terminal and titanium, both failed. Tried downloading superuser... still no dice.
In case it's relevant I downgraded from 3.1. I also did a factory reset after following the guide since I was getting mad fc's (presumably from the downgrade)
Should I try repeating certain steps from the guide, or flashing a ROM? I'm kind of afraid to try anything ATM.
Anyway thanks in advance for any help.
Just flash prime 1.4 and you should be fine. Superuser fails to work after you wipe cause it requires extra binary files other than just the app which got erased when you wiped.

Cool I'll try that now thanks a bunch.
I'm getting my transformer tomorrow and I've been thinking about rooting my device...i rooted my g1 and my vibrant mostly to delete the bloatware...and install new Roms (of course)...but what are the benefits of rooting a wifi tablet..beside overclocking....
From my vibrant with bionix nextgen v2
Worked Perfectly!
Thanks again for the help, time to see what this thing can really do

custom themes, root only apps, better performance even without overclock. More tools.

Is it safe to update a rooted tablet?

Hi everyone
I'm a proud owner of a Galaxy Tablet. Recently I got a message in my settings that there is an update available. This is my first tablet so I'm not veru expérienced. My tablet is rooted. It crashed a couple of times but all in all seems to be working. My question is if it's safe to update. I read in the forums about phones being bricked and other problems with updating rooted phones and tablets. Is there anything I should do before installing the update to make sure it works?
Any advice is appriciated. Cheers.
In general, I would recommend against that.
At least you will lose root, or you may semi-brick your tablet.
Rather than update, I would suggest flashing to a stock Gingerbread ROM. It will be almost the same as an update, but you will still be rooted. Or you can go with a custom GB ROM like Overcome or BOCA. If you want to get the newest, I'd go with CM9/ICS. This gives you the brand new Ice Cream Sandwich. I'm enjoying it very much on my tab. I was hesitant because the theme engine is still not there, but someone suggested to me GO Launcher EX, and that thing works like a charm on CM9.
Was just reading about SuperSU that just came out and it can trick your device into thinking its unrooted, ie for updating stock firmware but bigz is right, there's a lot to be had with custom ROM's
Here's the link for SuperSU though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Thank you very much people for your prompt replys. I only rooted my tablet to have an access to ad hoc wifis. I'm certainly enjoying Titanium Back Up and things like that. So I would like to stay rooted. Being inexperienced I sort of was more inclined to unroot it with a superoneclick then update it and then root it all over again.
Is it possible?
And I'm only trying to do it because I believe that the company's update is always the best. (Funny attitude for a rooted user, but I only understood it recently). Because normaly they do everything for you. So if I go with IT free spirited people then I will have a lot more questions.
* Are custom roms as stable and relyable as the official updates? Far be it from me to doubt the expertise of the guys who write them, I'm just really new to it.
* I understood from one of the posts that it might be even safer to flash a new ROM rather than do an official update. How does that work? I would like to understand before committing.
* And if I do a full back up with CWM (ROM included), does bricking bother me? I'm not very sure what bricking a tablet is.
I'll stop here with the questions not to be too heavey. My tablet: Samsung Galaxy P7310 8.9 WiFi only Honeycomb 3.1
Thanks in advance.!
Well, you are in wrong forum then.

what your means by gtab7+ is suck as crap ...?can you just explain, don't mind i am also a samsung galaxy tab 7" user.
There is no issue in un rooting your device and then upgrading it by keis and then rooting again and restoring your apps and data, Some apps may be incompatible with new version but you can check this in the market.
Just did this last week on my son's tab.
If you are running a custom rom then having a nandroid backup by cwm is advisable and if you don't like the upgrade then restore
If you run stock then you should upgrade via keis because you will get enhancements
Hope this helps. There are sticky guides on how to do this so would not worry as long v as you follow the instructions your fine.

Debating on rooting my S4

Hi everyone! I just upgraded to the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Before I had the original Galaxy Note. I've rooted and loaded custom ROM's on all my previous Android devices (Captivate, Inspire 4G, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy Note), but I'm debating on rooting this device. It's running great on the stock ROM.
Has anyone else debated this? If so, did you go ahead and root and loaded a ROM then regret it or were you glad you did it?
You can run it absolutely stock and still be rooted. Rooting gives you the advantage of certain apps that require it, as I'm sure you know, such as Titanium Backup, Root explorer and others. Plus ability to get rid of AT&T apps you never do or never will use. fwiw
Root it! You want regret it. The possibilities are endless. And if you do prefer a stock like rom, well believe me there are GREAT custom stock like roms that these great devs have put together that run flawlessly with added benefits. Hope this helps. Happy Rooting

even if you plan to keep the stock ROM, its worth it to root so you can uninstall the AT&T bloatware and remove the AT&T splash screen on start-up.

I am on stock with root. I rooted it using Adam's casual only to have TiBu work. I froze all ATT bloats and some google and samsung apps. The stock is very fine for me.
Now I am debating to flash Paranoid rom to try their multiwindow and halo features...
Thanks for all the input everyone, I appreciate it. Knowing me I'll end up rooting it and loading a ROM since I can't leave stuff alone. HA!
Does anyone know if there's a ROM out there that someone has gotten Bluetooth Tethering to work? That's one thing I miss from ICS on my Galaxy Note.
Hey gk
In same boat, been flashing roms hundreds of times for over 3 years from early Nexus One days. Most of the reasons were to get newer OS's without waiting. However, one of the reasons I got the S4 was it already has the latest as in 4.2.2.
One thing I have learned as most of us have is there always seems to be something not 100% on each rom for some folks. Goes with the territory as we know. Although, I have been lucky in that area. Maybe due to lots of reading and proper pre-install wipes. Hats off to all the devs though for their long and tiresome hours giving us these great roms.
My concern, since this is early on with the S4 and no unlocked bootloader, are our chances higher to have issues.
My phone with all it's "gimmicks" is running fast and perfect--NO issues. I also would like TiBu and eventually a custom recovery for nandroids even if I don't flash a custom rom. Used both CWM and TWRP in the past. Also, Amon_Ra. All worked great for me.
But, like you and others will probably root and flash a custom recovery anyway.
Damn Samsung for making this so tough of a decision--
I was in same position lol I've been flashing andneven Ade a few Roms but ya know its cool and all but its a hassel sometimes enough for me to be stock! There's no reason IMO to flash anything this phone is packed to the gills with features already and its on a very new os so I feel like I wanna root and flash away but have found no reason to YET key word there and of course its purely my own standpoint

Root it! You can get new features before they come to your carrier. ... I debated it and told myself I would stay rooted but run stock rom.... now they figured out ways to bypass the bootloader and flash roms and im back to crack flashing lol. ..
Yup. I thought I wouldn't root this thing. That lasted a week. Then I told myself it's fine the way it is, I don't need to flash a rom. That lasted 3 weeks. I'm not a flashaholic though. I usually pick one and stick with it for a while.
You think it runs fine until you've rommed it and added a kernel. Then you realize you had no idea how fine it could be.

I wouldn't ever even own a phone that I couldn't root. It just gives you freedom over your phone. Again you don't NEED to run a custom rom to be rooted, but check out some of the TW custom Tom's that just take the phone to another level but still being stock

I was a flashaholic on the captivate, and S II. I loved trying new ROMs like Miui and AOKP. But, since I got the Note II and now the S 4 I don't have that desire. My only reason for rooting usually was TiBu, and only from flashing so often. Without flashing a new ROM each week I had little need for restoring apps. After three weeks I finally rooted and started trying ROMs on this phone. It was about the same for my Note. I really like TouchWiz, and miss some of those features on AOSP based ROMs. I don't see the performance need for custom ROMs on either of these phones like I did on the older phones. I guess it just came out of boredom, in the end.

Well, I finally gave in and rooted--knew I would
Used Adam's Casual--very easy--much more so than my HTC phones
TiBu and Nandriods already in use
Next step roms--
Still haven't rooted yet. I probably will over the weekend. Why can't I leave stuff alone? HA!

Root for SCH-i815 LP11 (Verizon)

Even though this device is older, some of us still must be using this device. I wanted to pass on that Cydia Impactor can allow Root on the SCH-i815 w/LP11 update. Stock recovery and all...
Didn't work for me. I got bugs not found.

new - tab 7.7 i815 looking for roms and what to do..see below
Using the Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 or aka i815 to play around on, .. looking to learn how to root and install custom roms.. a learning tab for me. im new.
where im at... I used kingroot to root the tab, root check says im rooted with 4.0.4 (ice-cream sandwich) downloaded titanium back up.. yet not sure if that for backing up my system before playing with roms or just for adding/deleting and backing up certain apps.
all this was done using play store apps..
any advice would be great. where to go for step by step for this tab to get custom roms or maybe a better root if kingroot is not acceptable.
Thanks all.
